  • The main purpose of accident analysis is to identify the causal factors and the mechanisms of those factors leading to the accident. However, current accident analysis techniques focus only on finding the factors related to the accident without providing more insightful results, such as structures or mechanisms. For this reason, preventive actions for safety management are concentrated on the elimination of causal factors rather than blocking the connection or chain of accident processes. This greatly reduces the effectiveness of safety management in practice. In the present study, a technique to model the correlational structure of accident risk factors is proposed by using the co-occurrence keyword network analysis technique. To investigate the effectiveness of the proposed technique, a case study involving a portable ladder fall accident is conducted. The results indicate that the proposed technique can construct the correlational structure model of the risk factors of a portable ladder fall accident. This proves the effectiveness of the proposed technique in modeling the correlational structure of accident risk factors.

무인항공기시스템 사고요인 분석을 통한 안전 운용방안 고찰 (A Study on the Safety Management of UAS by Analyzing Its Accident Factors)

  • This study investigated the accident cases of the U.S. Air Force and the R.O.K. Army. It analyzed the accident factors of the unmanned aircraft system using case analysis on unmanned aircraft system operators of the R.O.K. Air Force. Following the analysis this paper suggested safety operation plans for the R.O.K. Air Force. The risk factors of unmanned aircraft system were summarized by collecting and analyzing accident cases of unmanned aircraft system by the U.S. Air Force, collecting and analyzing accident risk factors of RQ-4 operators of the R.O.K. Air Force. Through the analyzed risk factors, a safety operation plan for the semi-automatic unmanned aircraft system and the fully automatic unmanned aircraft system was presented.

  • The safety accident is one of the formidable issues in construction field, and in order to prevent safety accident, contractors perform safety education, safety control document, meeting with labors, and safety instruction in construction phase. However, safety accident is occurred continuously, it is needed to analyze which factors are affected to safety accident. day of the week, daily construction cost, and daily work task were selected as those factors. The result in this research represented that those factors were not considered as an critical one in safety accident. Because of approach limitation to safety accident, only two case studies were collected. If more safety accident cases are gathered in future study, it will clarify the cause of safety accident and will prevent safety accident.

구조방정식을 이용한 고령운전자 교통사고 인적 피해 심각도 분석 (고양시를 중심으로) (An Analysis of Traffic Accident Injury Severity for Elderly Driver on Goyang-Si using Structural Equation Model)

  • PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to verify traffic accident injury severity factors for elderly drivers and the relative relationship of these factors. METHODS : To verify the complicated relationship among traffic accident injury severity factors, this study employed a structural equation model (SEM). To develop the SEM structure, only the severity of human injuries was considered; moreover, the observed variables were selected through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The number of fatalities, serious injuries, moderate injuries, and minor injuries were selected for observed variables of severity. For latent variables, the accident situation, environment, and vehicle and driver factors were respectively defined. Seven observed variables were selected among the latent variables. RESULTS : This study showed that the vehicle and driver factor was the most influential factor for accident severity among the latent factors. For the observed variable, the type of vehicle, type of accident, and status of day or night for each latent variable were the most relative observed variables for the accident severity factor. To verify the validity of the SEM, several model fitting methods, including ${\chi}^2/df$, GFI, AGFI, CFI, and others, were applied, and the model produced meaningful results. CONCLUSIONS : Based on an analysis of results of traffic accident injury severity for elderly drivers, the vehicle and driver factor was the most influential one for injury severity. Therefore, education tailored to elderly drivers is needed to improve driving behavior of elderly driver.

지방부 도로구간의 사고수정계수 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study for Accident Modification Factors for Rural Road Segments)

  • PURPOSES : Although numerous researches have been studied to reveal accident causations for road intersections, there are still many research gaps for road segments. It is mainly because of difficulty of data and lack of analytical method. This study aims to study accident causations for rural road segments and develop accident modification factors for safety evaluation. The accident modification factors can be used to improve road safety. METHODS : Methods for developing AMF are diverse. This study developed AMFs using accident prediction models and selected explanatory variables from the accident models. In order to select final AMFs, three different methods were applied in the study. RESULTS : As a result of the study, many AMFs such as horizontal curves or vertical curves were developed and explained the meanings of the results. CONCLUSIONS : This study introduced meaningful methods for developing significant AMFs and also showed several AMFs. It is expected that traffic or road engineers will be able to use the AMFs to improve road segment safety.

구조방정식 모형을 이용한 주중과 주말의 고속도로 사고심각도 비교분석 (Analysis on Comparison of Highway Accident Severity between Weekday and Weekend using Structural Equation Model)

  • 교통사고를 감소시키고 안전성을 향상시키기 위해, 사고에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 분석하여 교통사고를 예측하는 모형은 지속적으로 개발되어 왔다. 교통사고 감소와 사고 사망자 감소에 대한 문제는 선진국과 후진국 모두 중요한 문제로서, 우리나라에서는 매해 교통사고 감소를 위한 정책 및 방안을 제시하고 있다. 주 5일제 시행과 여가활동에 대한 관심의 증가로 주중과 주말의 통행패턴은 다른 형태를 지니고 있으며, 교통사고의 특성도 마찬가지로 다르게 나타난다. 본 연구에서는 주중과 주말의 사고 심각도에 미치는 요인이 다름에 대하여 분석하였으며, 이는 고속도로에서 발생한 5년 동안의 사고자료를 구조방정식 모형을 이용하여 분석하였다. 모형의 추정결과 주중 사고 심각도 모형은 도로 요인이 사고 심각도에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 주말 사고 심각도 모형은 운전자 요인이 사고 심각도에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나 주중과 주말 사고의 원인 차이를 나타냈다.

  • The construction industry has a higher disaster rate than other industries, so safety education and management are highly important. In order to reduce the construction accident rate, it is necessary to study the key safety management factors reflecting the characteristics of the construction industry, where there are differences in processes and manpower input for each process, and a small number of managers. Therefore, in this study, key safety management factors for each Process of construction were derived through cross-analysis between safety accident types and accident occurrence objects through disaster case data. The extracted key safety management factors are expected to provide useful information for safety education and supervision of construction sites.

Modern Cause and Effect Model by Factors of Root Cause for Accident Prevention in Small to Medium Sized Enterprises

  • Background: Factors related to root causes can cause commonly occurring accidents such as falls, slips, and jammed injuries. An important means of reducing the frequency of occupational accidents in small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMSEs) of South Korea is to perform intensity analysis of the root cause factors for accident prevention in the cause and effect model like decision models, epidemiological models, system models, human factors models, LCU (life change unit) models, and the domino theory. Especially intensity analysis in a robot system and smart technology as Industry 4.0 is very important in order to minimize the occupational accidents and fatal accident because of the complexity of accident factors. Methods: We have developed the modern cause and effect model that includes factors of root cause through statistical testing to minimize commonly occurring accidents and fatal accidents in SMSEs of South Korea and systematically proposed educational policies for accident prevention. Results: As a result, the consciousness factors among factors of root cause such as unconsciousness, disregard, ignorance, recklessness, and misjudgment had strong relationships with occupational accidents in South Korean SMSEs. Conclusion: We conclude that the educational policies necessary for minimizing these consciousness factors include continuous training procedures followed by periodic hands-on experience, along with perceptual and cognitive education related to occupational health and safety.

삼풍 사고 생존자들에서 정신과적 증상의 심각도에 영향을 미치는 요인 (The Factors Influencing on the Severity of Psychiatric Symptoms of the Sampoong Accident Survivors)

  • We studied the factors that would affect the severity of psychiatric symptoms of the Sampoong accident survivors. In this study, the analyzed factors are sex, age, marital status, educational level, loss of consciousness, witness of death, death of related person, duration until the rescue, duration of hospitalization, and psychiatric treatment after the accident. Although our study has some limitations, we found some factors that affect the severity of psychiatric symptoms after the severe traumatic accident.

건설 보통인부의 안전재해 영향요인 및 재해강도 분석 (An Analysis on the Accident Influence Factor and Severity of Construction General Workers)

  • General workers who assist various technicians in different fields with their work across the whole construction sites without having a particular skill are at risk of the highest accident rate and their accident form becomes varied. Accordingly, this study was conducted to identify the relationship between form of safety accident and influence factor in general workers and analyze accident severity by influence factor. The followings are the results from this study. First, as a result of analyzing major form of accident and influence factors in general workers with network analysis methodology, nine forms of accident and seventeen influence factors were drawn. Second, it was found that in accident severity among general workers, collapsing, among various forms of accident, appeared the highest, followed by fall, electric shock, fire, hit by an object, bumped against, trip, scission getting cut chopped in order. Third, main points of special, concentrated, and permanent management were presented in order to reduce the safety accident in general workers effectively.
