  • Usually social control and acceptance of science and technology is thought to be a separate or even confronting thing. But this paper aims to go beyond this simple and dichotomous thinking. Rather, this paper argues that social control and acceptance of science and technology can be combined altogether organically. In other words, this paper argues that social control of a particular science and technology has functional effects to the acceptance of that science and technology. Social control of a particular science and technology is a signal that something is going wrong; it reallocates attention and enhances social awareness; it evaluates ongoing activity; and it alters this activity in various ways to secure a sustainable future. In order to prove this functional hypothesis, this paper tries a case study of biotechnology from a perspective of sociology of science and technology. Especially social controversies around genetically modified organisms(GMOs) and embryo cloning in Korea are analysed deeply. As a conclusion, this paper proposes some policy implications of this study.

  • This study examines online art platforms as a new type of informational technology and seeks to verify the impact of the user's perceived value and acceptance of new technologies on the behavioral intention about art platforms. For this, it was conducted to survey 489 users of the online art platform. Several emotional value, functional value, social value, and value for money were selected as perceived value variables, and performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and facilitating conditions were set as variables of new technology adaptation. As evident in the correlation with perceived values, emotional value and social value have a significant impact on all parameters of new technology adaptation, while functional values and value for money only affect facilitating conditions and behavioral intention, respectively. Furthermore, the impact of acceptance of new technologies confirms that performance expectancy and facilitating conditions affect behavioral intention. This study demonstrates the perceived value of online art platform users and the acceptance of new technologies. Therefore, it is expected that platform providers will be able to use it as primary data to understand and reflect user requirements.

  • It is very difficult to clearly define the damages caused by blasting-induced noise and vibration, because the damages depend on, besides the level of noise and vibration, the response of the object, environmental conditions, subjective feeling, and mental condition. Especially, it is more difficult when the fish is concerned, because that experimental approach is not easy and that we lack of the reasonable criterion for the acceptance level of noise and vibration. In Korea, the acceptance level for damage due to underwater noise is 140 dB re $1{\mu}Pa$, and the difference from the underwater background sound level is defined as more than 20 dB re $1{\mu}Pa$. It is however, appropriate for continuous noise not for transient sound. The authors compared the relationship between vibration velocity and underwater noise measured from the test blasting around Marphysa sanguinea farm. This paper presents the measurement results and suggestions the acceptance level for damage due to underwater noise from explosive blasting.

  • At this moment, a paradigm shift is taking place across all sectors of society for the transition movements to the digital economy. Various movements are taking place in the global agricultural industry to achieve innovative growth using big data which is a key resource of the 4th industrial revolution. Although the government is making various attempts to promote the use of big data, the movement of the agricultural industry as a key player in the use of big data, is still insufficient. Therefore, in this study, effects of performance expectations, effort expectations, social impact, facilitation conditions, based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology(UTAUT), and innovation tendencies on the acceptance intention of big data were analyzed using the economic and practical benefits that can be obtained from the use of big data for agricultural-related companies as moderating variables. 333 questionnaires collected from agricultural-related companies were used for empirical analysis. The analysis results using SPSS v22.0 and Process macro v3.4 were found to have a significant positive (+) effect on the intention to accept big data by effort expectations, social impact, facilitation conditions, and innovation tendencies. However, it was found that the effect of performance expectations on acceptance intention was insignificant, with social impact having the greatest influence on acceptance intention and innovation tendency the least. Moderating effects of economic benefit and practical benefit between effort expectation and acceptance intention, moderating effect of practical benefit between social impact and acceptance intention, and moderating effect of economic benefit and practical benefit between facilitation condition and acceptance intention were found to be significant. On the other hand, it was found that economic benefits and practical benefits did not moderate the magnitude of the influence of performance expectations and innovation tendency on acceptance intention. These results suggest the following implications. First, in order to promote the use of big data by companies, the government needs to establish a policy to support the use of big data tailored to companies. Significant results can only be achieved when corporate members form a correct understanding and consensus on the use of big data. Second, it is necessary to establish and implement a platform specialized for agricultural data which can support standardized linkage between diverse agricultural big data, and support for a unified path for data access. Building such a platform will be able to advance the industry by forming an independent cooperative relationship between companies. Finally, the limitations of this study and follow-up tasks are presented.

  • This study examined how school-age children's peer acceptance and friendship experience were related to their psychosocial adjusment. Peer acceptance was examined in terms of sociometric status and social preference, and the friendship experience was examined in terms of the reciprocity of best friendship. The subjects were 275 children in the 4th or 5th grades. It was found that sociometric status and the reciprocity of best friendship were significant predictors of the level of loneliness that children experienced. Interaction between children's social preference score and the reciprocity of best friendship was also a significant predictor of the children's experience of loneliness. That is, the degree to which children are accepted by their peer group predicts the level of loneliness that children experience, but the strength of the prediction depends on whether the children have reciprocal best friends. Is for children's self-esteem in relation with sociometric status and the reciprocity of best friendship, only sociometric status was significant predictor of children's self-esteem. However, interaction between social preference and the reciprocity of best friendship was a significant predictor of children's self-esteem. This finding suggests that the degree to which children are accepted by their peer group predicts the level of children's self-esteem, and the strength of the prediction depends on whether the children have reciprocal best friends.

  • This study aims to determine the perceptions of Islamic Financial Cooperative (BMT) managers in the Indonesian BMT Association on the acceptance of core banking technology. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) is used because it has simple theoretical characteristics (parsimony) and is supported by data (verifiability). This study develops the TAM model by integrating new variables -perceptions of maqashid sharia, perceptions of economies of scale, perceptions of market structure, and perceptions of technology procurement costs. These new variables are used to measure intention in using technology and actual usage in BMT operations. This study used PLS-SEM with smartPLS 3. The study was conducted in Central Java in six ex-Residency at 35 BMT with 300 respondents consisting of six levels of position level. The research found that maqashid sharia and market structure directly influenced the intention of BMT managers in using core banking technology. This new finding strengthens a theoretical model regarding the role of maqashid sharia in the acceptance of information technology in BMT. In addition, the perception of economies of scale has no significant effect on intention in using technology or its actual usage. The perception variable of technology procurement costs was found to have no significant effect on intention in using technology.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the factors determining users' acceptance of individualized virtual community. While there has been considerable research on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) that has predicted whether individuals will accept and voluntarily use information systems, limitations of the TAM include the omission of an important characteristics of individual construct in the context of individualized community. Based on literature relating to the theory of reasoned action (TRA), the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and the TAM, this study extends the applicability of the TAM in a individualized community context, by adding characteristics of individual-based construct ("subjective norm", "self-efficacy", "self-presentation" and "sharing information to exchange various information") to the model. Analysis was conducted on using the structural equation modeling approach. The result supports the extended TAM in predicting users' intentions to using personalized community. Several implications for IT/IS acceptance research and individualized community service management practices are discussed.

  • The development of mobile Internet services allows more consumers to adopt smartphones as their primary communication device. This study focused on the application of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to determine the willingness of batik and textile craftsmen to use smartphones. The population of this study was batik and textile craftsmen in the Bayat, Klaten, Central Java, Indonesia. A total sample of 243 people had answered 30 questions on the questionnaire with a 5-point Likert scale. The results of data analysis using GSCA software showed that, from eight hypotheses proposed, two hypotheses had not been supported. Technical support was not significant for the ease-of-use. It is because the damage experienced can be easily resolved by a repair shop. The findings reinforce the importance of training during the implementation of new technology. This training can make the users understand how to use new technology. The findings of this study strengthen the theory of TAM. Management support further influences the usefulness. This finding supports the theory of Igbaria technology acceptance. However, social influence did not significant influence the usefulness. This was because this study was conducted when the smartphone was no longer said to be a new technology.

  • As data grows rapidly, the provision of appropriate information needed by individuals has become an area of new services, and customized services which is enabling the analysis of optimal services through collecting, storing, and analyzing personal data are emerging in many fields. However, due to the characteristics of customized services based on various information collected by customers during the use of the service, the problem of privacy infringement is raised at the same time, and many studies are being actively conducted to solve this problem. This study seeks to explore how the customer's in-depth and customized services has an impact on their customers, which has not been derived from quantitative research using the grounded theory methodology. Through this, 84 concepts, 33 subcategories, 13 Categories and paradigm models were derived. In addition, 'Understanding and acceptance of online behavioral advertising (OBA)' was derived as a core category, and finally, acceptance types of OBA were classified into 'positive acceptance type', 'indifferent type', 'calculating type', and 'active resistance type' based on the key categories. This study divides the acceptance types of online behavioral advertising through the emotions and behaviors of the consumers throughout the procedure of online behavioral advertising experiences. In addition to the statistical and quantitative information currently used for providing behavioral advertising, it provides new criteria to reflect the refinement of behavioral advertising and personal tendencies or characteristics.
