Lately, the cavitation and erosion phenomena in the rudder have been increased for high-speed container ships. However, cavitation is not prone to occur in model experiments because of low Reynolds number. In order to predict the cavitation phenomena, the - analysis of the viscous flow in the rudder gap is positively necessary In this study, numerical calculation was applied to the two-dimensional flow around the rudder gap using FLUENT code. The velocity and pressure field were numerically acquired and cavitation phenomena could be predicted. And the case that the round bar was installed in the rudder gap was analyzed. For reducing the acceleration force when fluid flow through the gap, modified rudder shape is proposed, It is shown that modified rudder shape restrain the pressure drop at the entrance of the gap highly both in the computational results and in the model experiment, and reduce the cavitation bubbles.
This paper highlights the role of innovative vibration control system based on two promising properties in a parallel configuration. Hybrid device consists of two main components; recentering wires of shape memory alloy (SMA) and steel pipe section as an energy dissipater element. This approach concentrates damage in the steel pipe and prevents the main structural members from yielding. By regulation of the main adjustable design parameter, an optimum performance of the device is obtained. The effectiveness of the device in passive control of structures is evaluated through nonlinear time history analyses of a five-story steel frame with and without the hybrid device. Comparing the results proves that the hybrid device has a considerable potential to mitigate the residual drift ratio, peak absolute acceleration and peak interstory drift of the structure.

High-speed railway bridges subject to effect of dynamic loads by interaction between vehicle load which run specially fast and behavior of bridges. Such dynamic load effects result in fluctuations and fatigues to each elements as well as whole conduct of bridges. and is influenced in life of bridges. For these reason. Analysis and estimation of data about dynamic behavior of bridges occupies important factor in that estimate the remaining life of bridges and select the maintenance. repair and retrofit. In this paper. Analysis for the dynamic behavior of bridges using displacement and acceleration data that is actuality measure data to the bridges of Seoul-Susan high speed railroad test section has been made.
It is very important to pay careful attention to construction of bridge/earthwork transition zone for high-speed railway. The transition zone of the railway is the section which roadbed stiffness is suddenly varied. Differences in stiffness have dynamic effects and these increase the forces in the track and the extent of deformation. An abrupt change of stiffness across two adjacent track portions cause irregular settlement of roadbed, track irregularity, lack of girder bending moment and reduction of lateral resistance. Especially on high-speed railway, track irregularity of transition zone cause sincere effect to track stability and train safety. And so continuous maintenance is needed. To verify this effect and to improve transiton zone capacity, In situ test, track irregularity and train acceleration test were performed on high-speed railway bridge/earthwork Transiton Zone.
The railway bridges on the new high-speed line are the first structures designed and constructed by our local engineers for high-speed running. In securing running stability and riding comfort in high-speed running, it is very important to verify the performance of structures and local specifications and design criteria by measuring and analyzing the dynamic behavior of main structural members. In this study, 4 different types(simple-span, 2, 3, 4-continuous spans) of PCS Box bridges on the test line(Yongwa$\~$Simok section) were selected, each representing a different type of superstructures, in order to verify the performance of the bridges by measuring dynamic responses during the test-run of KTX. Reviews of the running stability and the riding comfort were carried out with the results of the measurement and the analyses of vibration acceleration, endrotation, distortion and deflection at midspan.
This study presents an experimental technique to monitor the dynamic behavior of the railway bridge system simultaneously using multiplexed fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors. The measuring quantities include stains, curvatures, vertical deflections, and vertical accelerations. The strains are directly measured from multiplexed FBG sensors at various locations of the test bridge followed by curvature calculations based on the plane section assumption. Vertical deflections are then estimated using the Bernoulli beam theory and regression analysis. Finally, vertical accelerations are obtained from the numerical differentiation in time domain. In order to verify the proposed method, several conventional electric strain gauges, displacement transducers, and accelerometers are installed at the mid-span of the bridge for comparisons. A test train is passed over the bridge to monitor the dynamic response of the bridge. The monitoring results show that the multiplexed FBG sensing system is able to capture the essential behavior of the test bridge while resolving wiring problem in practice.
This paper proposed a new 2D multibody dynamic modeling technique to analyze overriding behavior taking place during train collision. This dynamic model is composed of nonlinear spring, damper and mass by considering the deformable characteristics of carbodies as well as energy absorbing structures and components. By solving this dynamic model of rollingstock, collision energy absorption capacity, acceleration of passenger sections, impact forces applied to interconnecting devices, and overriding displacements can be well estimated. For a case study, we choose KHST (Korean High Speed Train), obtained crush characteristic data of each carbody section from 3D finite element analysis, and established a 2D multibody dynamic model. This 2D dynamic model was suggested to describe the collision behavior of 3D Virtual Testing Model.

This paper proposes a control algorithm, which is verified experimentally, for aspherical surface grinding and polishing. The algorithm provides simultaneous control of the position and interpolation of an aspheric curve. The nonlinear formula for the tool position was derived from the aspheric equation and the shape of the tool. The function was partitioned at specific intervals and the control parameters were calculated at each control section. The position, acceleration, and velocity at each interval were updated during the process. A position error feedback was introduced using a rotary encoder. The feedback algorithm corrected the position error by increasing or decreasing the feed speed. In the experimental verification, a two-axis machine was controlled to track an aspherical surface using the proposed algorithm. The effects of the control and process parameters were monitored. The results demonstrated that the maximum tracking error with tuned parameters was at the submicron level for concave and convex surfaces.
This study was performed to investigate the characteristics and performance of model Decanter for separating swine wastewater to solid and liquid which is slurry state with 12.6% TS. Swine wastewater of the slurry tank was pumped into model Decanter which capacity was $2m^3$/hr in 10% TS Slurry inside of bowl was separated to solid-liquid by centrifugal acceleration. Sampling was done in the section of slurry feed pipe, supernatant outflow pipe, cake discharge pipe. After solid-liquid separation TS, $COD_cr$ and slurry volume reduction effect represented 38%, 40%, 19.6% respectively. Relation factor of model Decanter operation slurry concentration, optimum retention time of slurry, overflow velocity of supernatant, supernatant concentration, sludge removal rate etc. Optimal operation conditions can be set and evaluated efficiency based on the experimental results in the case of Decanter adopted for solid-liquid separation in highly concentrated swine wastewater.
A study has been performed to investigate on the dynamic behavior of bridges crossed by the KTX(Korea Train eXpress). The investigated bridge is a 2-span continuous concrete box bridge with spans of 40m length named Yeon-Jae bridge. We have performed many field tests on the dynamic behaviors of a real bridge for KTX using various sensors. For this study, various sensors have been installed on the Yeon-Jae bridge located in the experimental section of the KHSR(Korea High-Speed Railway) track and tests have been performed. Through this study, it is known that effects of local modes and sleepers in the box-girder bridge for the KTX on the dynamic responses is remarkable. Therefore, in the investigation on the accelerations of the box-girder bridge, three dimensional model should be adopted in numerical analysis including the effects of sleepers. The effect of temperature on the accelerations of the bridge should be investigated in the further studies to determine the reason of excessive acceleration.
