The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of medium chain fatty acid salts, reported as enhancers in insulin nasal absorption, on the rectal absorption of insulin in rats. The serum glucose and remained insulin level in perfusate were measured after rectal recirculation of insulin with or without sod. laurate, sod. caprate and sod. caprylate in situ. The addition of sod. laurate or sod. caprate reduced serum glucose concentration considerably. Sod. caprate (1.0%) showed the greatest promoting effect on the decrement of serum glucose. Eudispert hv hydrogels containing insulin with medium chain fatty acid salts were, thereby, prepared and evaluated. The release rate of insulin from Eudispert hv hydrogels was reduced with an increase in the content of Eudispert hv, and was raised with increasing NaOH concentration. Ten percent Eudispert hv hydrogels were offered for the rectal administration of insulin. The addition of 1.0% sod. caprate reduced serum glucose concentration remarkably after rectal administration of 10% Eudispert hv hydrogels containing insulin. The level of glucose decrement was greater by 30% compared to subcutaneous administration of insulin solution. From the above findings, Eudispert hv hydrogels would be used as useful rectal delivery systems of insulin.
Many researches have been carried out to improve light absorption in the crystalline silicon solar cell fabrication. The rear reflection is applied to increase the path length of light, resulting in the light absorption enhancement and thus the efficiency improvement mainly due to increase in short circuit current. In this paper, we manufactured the silicon solar cell using the mono crystalline silicon wafers with $156{\times}156mm^2$, 0.5~3.0 ${\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ of resistivity and p-type. After saw damage removal, the dielectric film ($SiN_x$)on the back surface was deposited, followed by surface texturing in the KOH solution. It resulted in single-side texturing wafer. Then the dielectric film was removed in the HF solution. The silicon wafers were doped with phosphorus by $POCl_3$ with the sheet resistance 50 ${\Omega}/{\Box}$ and then the silicon nitride was deposited on the front surface by the PECVD with 80nm thickness. The electrodes were formed by screen-printing with Ag and Al paste for front and back surface, respectively. The reflectance and transmittance for the single-sided and double-sided textured wafers were compared. The double-sided textured wafer showed higher reflectance and lower transmittance at the long wavelength region, compared to single-sided. The completed crystalline silicon solar cells with different back surface texture showed the conversion efficiency of 17.4% for the single sided and 17.3% for the double sided. The efficiency improvement with single-sided textured solar cell resulted from reflectance increase on back surface and light absorption enhancement.
The feasibility of skin penetration was studied for aspalatone (AM, acetylsalicylic acid maltol ester), a novel antithrombotic agent. In this studys hairless mouse dorsal skins were used as a model to select composition of vehicle and AM. Based on measurements of solubility and partition coefficient, the concentration of PC that showed the highest flux for AM across the hairless mouse skin was found to be 40%. The cumulative amount permeated at 48 h, however, appear inadequate, even when the PC concentration was employed. To identify a suitable absorption enhancer and its optimal concentration for AM, a number of absorption enhancers and a variety of concentration were screened for the increase in transdermal flux of AM. Amongst these, linoleic acid (LOA) at the concentration of 5% was found to have the largest enhancement factor (i.e., 132). However, a further increase in AM flux was not found in the fatty acid concentration greater than 5%, indicating the enhancement effect is in a bell-shaped currie. In a study of the effect of AM concentration on the permeation, there was no difference in the permeation rate between 0.5 and 1% for AM, below its saturated concentration. At the donor concentration of 2%, over the saturated condition, the flux of AM was markedly increased. A considerable degradation of AM was found during permeation studies, and the extent was correlated with protein concentrations in the epidermal and serosal extracts, and skin homogenates. In rat dorsal skins, the protein concentration decreased in the rank order of skin homogenate > serosal extract > epidermal extract. Estimated first order degradation rate constants were $6.15{\pm}0.14,{\;}0.57{\pm}0.02{\;}and{\;}0.011{\pm}{\;}0.004{\;}h^{-1}$ for skin homogenate, serosal extract and epidermal extract, respectively. Therefore, it appeared that AM was hydrolyzed to some extent into salicylmaltol by esterases in the dermal and subcutaneous tissues of skin. taken together, our data indicated that transdermal delivery of AM is feasible when the combination of PC and LOA is used as a vehicle. However, since AM is not metabolically stable, acceptable degradation inhibitors may be nervessary to fully realize the transdermal delivery of the drug.
The effects of domperidone, scopolamine butylbromide and cimetidine on the absorption and bioavailability of ciprofloxacin were studied in female rats. Ciprofloxacin was given in a single oral dose of 30 mg/kg to control group. Ciprofloxacin was concurrently administered with domperidone $(T_1\;group)$, scopolamine butylbromide $(T_2\;group)$, and cimetidine $(T_3\;group)$ to rats, respectively. Significantly changed pharmacokinetic parameters observed in $T_2$group when compared with control group were first-order absorption rate constant, $Ka(4.43{\pm}0.85$\;versus\;2.86{\pm}0.41\;hr^{-1},\;p<0.05)$, time needed to reach peak concentration, $T_{max}\;(32.27{\pm}2.46\;versus\;51.75{\pm}5.51\;min,\;p<0.05)$, area under the plasma concentration-time curve, AUC $(332{\pm}19\;versus\;477{\pm}27\;{\mu}g{\cdot}min/ml,\;p<0.05)$ and absolute bioavailability, Fabs $(60.6{\pm}3.6\;versus\;87.0{\pm}5.0%,\;p<0.05)$. On the other hand, domperidone and cimetidine did not significantly affect the absorption of ciprofloxacin. It is suggested that when scopolamine butylbromide is selected for clinical use, there is need for awareness of the reduction in absorption rate and the enhancement in absorption extent of ciprofloxacin.
In this study, concerns the crashworthiness of the widely used vehicle structure, square thin-walled tubes, which are excellent on the point of the energy absorbing capacity. An experimental investigation was carried out to study the energy absorption characteristics of thin-walled square tubes subjected to dynamic crushing by axial loading to develop the optimum structural members. The impact velocity was tested in the rage $4.698{\sim}8.2m/s$. To efficiently review the collapse characteristics of these sections, the simulation have been carried out using explicit FEM package, LS-DYNA. The solutions compared with results the impact collapse experiment. Here, the controller are introduced to improve and control the absorbed energy of thin-walled square tubes in this paper. To predict and control the energy absorption, we designed it in consideration to the it's influence, height, thickness, wide ratio in this study. When the controller used, the experimental results of crushing of square tubes controlled by the controller's elements showed a good candidate for a controllable energy absorption capability in impact axial crushing.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the intestinal and nasal absorption enhancement of cefotaxime (CTX) by ion-pairing with counterions and to design an effective oral and intranasal drug delivery system for antibiotics. Counterions for absorption promotion were cationic surfactants [cetylpyridinium chloride (CP), cetrimide (CT) and benzalkonium chloride (BA)]. In the presence of counterions, the apparent partition coefficient of cefotaxime was increased depending on the molar concentration of the counterions. Anion interference was observed for ion-pairing of cefotaxime with counterions because of the counterbalance between an anion and counterions. The present study employed the in situ simultaneous nasal and intestinal perfusion technique in rats. The apparent permeabilities $(P_{app})$ of cefotaxime were $1.43{\pm}0.04{\times}10^{-5}\;cm/sec(mean{\pm}S.E)$ in the nasal cavity and 0 in the jejunum, respectively, which indicated that the intrinsic absorptivity of cefotaxime was greater in the nasal cavity than in the jejunum. When ionupairing formers were used, the decreasing order of apparent cefotaxime permeability $(P_{app},\;10^{-5}\;cm/sec)$, corrected for surface area of absorption, was as followings: $BA\;(7.50{\pm}0.36)\;>\;CT\;(4.92{\pm}0.24)\;>\;CP\;(3.01{\pm}0.17)$ in the jejunum and $BA\;(22.31{\pm}1.36)\;>\;CP\;(18.24{\pm}0.81)\;>\;CT \;(16.22{\pm}1.87)$ in the nasal cavity. The increase in permeability of cefotaxime was about 13-fold in the rat nasal cavity and was marked in the rat jejunum for ion-pairing with counterions as compared to those without ion-pairing. The damages of jejunal and nasal mucosal membrane by counterions were observed within approximately 2hrs after removal of ion-pair of cefotaxime with counterions from the nasal cavity and jejunum. These results suggest that CP can be used as an ion-pairing former in the jejunum and CP and CT can be used as ion-pairing formers in the nasal cavity for cefotaxime, as well as for poorly absorbed drugs with a negative charge due to ionization.
In this study, light absorption of carbonaceous species in $PM_{2.5}$ was investigated using a dual-spot 7-wavelength Aethalometer(model AE33) with 1-min time interval between January 01 and September 30, 2017 at an urban site of Gwangju. During the study period, two Asian dust (AD) events occurred in April (AD I) and May (AD II), respectively, during which light absorption in total suspended particles was observed. Black carbon (BC) was the dominant light absorbing aerosol component at all wavelengths over the study period. Light absorption coefficients by aerosol particles were found to have 2.7~3.3 times higher at 370 nm than at 880 nm. This would be attributed to light absorbing organic aerosols, which is called brown carbon (BrC), as well as BC as absorbing agents of aerosol particles. Monthly average absorption ${{\AA}}ngstr{\ddot{o}}m$ exponent ($AAE_{370-950nm}$) calculated over wavelength range of 370~950 nm ranged from 1.10 to 1.35, which was lower than the $AAE_{370-520nm}$ values ranging from 1.19~1.68 that was enhanced due to the presence of BrC. The estimated $AAE_{370-660nm}$ of BrC ranged from 2.2 to 7.5 with an average of 4.22, which was fairly consistent to the values reported by previous studies. The BrC absorption at 370 nm contributed 10.4~28.4% to the total aerosol absorption, with higher contribution in winter and spring and lower in summer. Average $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ concentrations were $108{\pm}36$ and $24{\pm}14{\mu}g/m^3$ during AD I, respectively, and $164{\pm}66$ and $43{\pm}26{\mu}g/m^3$ during AD II, respectively, implying the greater contribution of local pollution and/or regional pollution to $PM_{2.5}$ during the AD II. BC concentration and aerosol light absorption at 370 nm were relatively high in AD II, compared to those in AD I. Strong spectral dependence of aerosol light absorption was clearly found during the two AD events. $AAE_{370-660nm}$ of both light absorbing organic aerosols and dust particles during the AD I and II was $4.8{\pm}0.5$ and $6.2{\pm}0.7$, respectively. Higher AAE value during the AD II could be attributed to mixed enhanced urban pollution and dust aerosols. Absorption contribution by the light absorbing organic and dust aerosols estimated at 370 nm to the total light absorption was approximately 19% before and after the AD events, but it increased to 32.9~35.0% during the AD events. In conclusion, results from this study support enhancement of the aerosol light absorption due to Asian dust particles observed at the site.
Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) is a new technology capable to flow without segregation or any addition of energy which leads to efficient construction and cost savings. In this study, the effect of replacing the Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) with Fly Ash (FA) on the strength, durability of the concrete was investigated experimentally, and carbon footprint and cost were also assessed. Four different replacement FA ratios (0%, 20%, 40% and 60%) were used to create four SCC mixes. Standard test methods were used to determine the workability, strength, and durability of the SCC mixes including resist chloride ion penetration, water permeability, water absorption, and initial surface absorption. The axial cube compressive strength tests were performed on the SCC mixes at 1, 7, 14, 28 and 35 days. Replacing the OPC with FA had a significant positive impact on chloride iron penetration resistance and water absorption but had a considerable negative impact on the compressive strength. The SCC mix with 60% FA had 36.7% and 15.8% enhancement in the resistance to chloride ion penetration and water absorption, respectively. Evaluation of the carbon footprint and the cost of each SCC mixes showed the $CO_2$ emissions mixes 1, 2, 3 and 4 were significantly reduced by increasing the FA content from 0% to 60%. Compared with the control mix, the cost of all mixes increased when the FA content increased, but no significant differences were seen between the estimated costs of all four mixes.
The purpose of this study was to compare the intrinsic absorptivity of piperacillin in the jejunum and the nasal cavity, to investigate the effect of bile salts, fatty acids and their mixed micelles on the intestinal and nasal absorption of piperacilIin, to examine the reversibiIity of bile salt-fatty acid mixed micelles absorption promoting action and to design an effective intranasal drug delivery system for antibiotics. And absorption promoters used were bile salts [sodium cholate (NaC), sodium glycocholate (NaGC)], unsaturated fatty acids [oleic acid (OA), linoleic acid (LA)] and their mixed micelles (NaC-LA). The present study employed the in situ nasal and intestinal perfusion technique in rats. The apparent permeabilities $(P_{app})$ of piperacillin were $0.40{\pm}0.04{\times}10^{-5}cm/sec(mean{\pm}S.E)$ in the jejunum and $1.32{\pm}0.08{\times}10^{-5}\;cm/sec$ in the nasal cavity, which indicated that intrinsic absorptivity of piperacillin was greater in the nasal cavity than in the jejunum. When absorption promoters were used in the rat nasal cavity, the decreasing order of apparent piperacillin permeability $(P_{app},\;10^{-5}\;cm/sec)$, corrected for surface area of absorption, was NaC-LA $(4.62{\pm}0.16)$> NaC $(4.36{\pm}0.32)$>LA$(2.24{\pm}0.26)$ NaGC $(2.17{\pm}0.21)$>OA $(1.53{\pm}0.16)$. The increase in permeability of piperacillin was 3.5-fold in the rat nasal cavity and 1.5-fold in the rat jejunum for formulations containing NaC-LA mixed micelles as compared to those without absorption enhancer. The effect of NaC-LA mixed micellar solutions was synergistic and was greater than that with single adjuvant. The reversibility of nasal mucosal permeability was observed within approximately 2 hr after removal of NaCLA mixed micelles from the nasal cavity. These results suggest that NaC-LA mixed micelles can be used as nasal mucosal absorption promoters of poorly absorbed drugs.
We have demonstrated Forst-type resonance energy transfer (FRET) in the quasi-solid type dye-sensitized solar cells between organic fluorescence materials as an energy donor doped in polymeric gel electrolyte and ruthenium complex as an energy acceptor on surface of $TiO_2$. The strong spectral overlap of emission/absorption of energy donor and acceptor is required to get high FRET efficiency. The judicious choice of energy donor allows the enhancement of light harvesting characters of energy acceptor in quasi-solid dye sensitized solar cells which increase the power conversion efficiency. The enhanced light harvesting effect by the judicious choice/design of the fluorescence materials and sensitizing dyes permits the enhancement of photovoltaic performance of DSSC.
