An interpretation on the solid circulation characteristics in a fluidized-bed process has been carried out as a first step to simulate the dry entrained-bed absorption and bubbling-bed regeneration system for $CO_2$ removal from flue gas. A particle population balance has been developed to determine the solid flow rates and particle size distributions in the process. Effects of principal process parameters have been discussed in a laboratory scale process (absorption column: 25 mm i.d., 6 m in height; regeneration column: 0.1 m i.d., 1.2 m in height). The particle size distributions in absorption and regeneration columns were nearly the same. As gas velocity or static bed height in the absorption column increased, soild circulation rate and feed rate of fresh sorbent increased, however, mean particle diameter decreased in the absorption column. As cut diameter of the cyclone of the absorption column increased, solid circulation rate decreased, whereas feed rate of fresh sorbent and mean particle diameter in the absorption column increased. As attrition coefficient of sorbent particle increased, solid circulation rate and feed rate of fresh sorbent increased but mean particle diameter in the absorption column decreased.
In order to separate the fuel-grade DME from the product of a direct DME synthesise reaction, containing 19~20% of DME, an absorption column and a purification column were employed. In the DME absorption column, the flow rate of the methanol required to recover more than 99% of DME at 50 bar was estimated by the correlation obtained from the lab-scale experiments. In the DME purification column, the maximum DME recovery of 98.2% could be obtained even from the side stream at the 3rd stage above the feed stage, since the feed stream originated from the product of the absorption column had already contained a large amount of DME (20~30 mol%) and only a small amount of light products such as $CO_2$ and $N_2$ (5~10 mol%).
Gas-liquid bubble column reactors are extensively used in industrial processes. A detailed knowledge of bubble size distribution is needed for determining the mass transfer in gas-liquid film. Experimental data on bubble size distribution and liquid-side mass transfer coefficient($k_L$) were used to calculate the estimated time to saturation in bubble column reactor. Also, the gas flux was evaluated to the liquid-side mass transfer coefficient($k_L$) and solubility data for hydrogen sulfide($H_2S$) and chlorine($Cl_2$) absorption into water. Simulation results show that $H_2S$ absorption time to 50 % of saturation concentrations are 611 sec and 1,329 sec when bubble diameters are 0.5 mm and 4.5 mm, while absorbing 1 % $H_2S$ gas. In case of $Cl_2$, absorption time range 657 to 1,400 sec when bubble size range 0.5 mm to 4.5 mm, while absorbing 1 % $Cl_2$ gas. Calculated simulation results can be used in the design of emergency relief bubble reactors.

A column test was performed for a hollow composite column to evaluate its seismic performance. The seismic performances of a hollow composite column and a reinforced concrete (RC) column were evaluated and compared by quasi-static tests. Lateral displacements and lateral loads of the column specimens were measured during tests. Ductilities, absorbed energy, equivalent damping ratios, and damage indices were calculated from the recorded data. From the test results, the hollow composite column showed a seismic performance superior to the column in terms of double moment capacity, ultimate energy, and energy absorption.

A generator-GAX combined rectification system of an ammonia absorption heat pump was investigated to get the optimum design values. The mass and heat transfer phenomena of the rectification system were analysed. The number of column plates, equilibrium temperature of solution on each plate and flow rates of solution and vapor generated were predicted. The characteristics of mass and heat transfer of the generator-GAX combined rectification system, i.e. concentration difference of leaving solution and vapor on each column plate, were found to be mainly governed by the pressure of generator, reflex ratio and temperature difference of analyser coolant. The number of rectification column plates for each different pressure in generator was obtained. The optimum locations for installing the feeder from solution-cooled absorber and GAX desorber in generator were predicted. The improvement of COP was followed by the increase of the rectifier efficiency and the number of column plate, and the decrease of reflex ratio.
A numerical analysis is made to investigate the wave absorption efficiency of a OWC-type wave power generator. Energy absorption by an OWC(Oscillating Water Column) air-chamber is computed in regular waves, taking account of the oscillating surface-pressure, due to pressure drop, across the duct of the air chamber. The problem is formulated in the scope of potential theory and solved by the Localized Finite Element Method(LFEM), based on the classical variational principle. The efficiency of energy absorption is investigated by. changing wave conditions, sea-bottom slope and pressure drop coefficient.
Model reactions were often applied in the measuring of the mass transfer coefficient and interfacial area between gas and liquid, which are the most important factors in the design of equipment for gas absorption accompanied with chemical reaction this study, wetted wall column was applied to the sulfite-system among the known model reactions. It was found that one could not ignore the effect of contact time on the determination of mass transfer coefficient and interfacial area. When the reaction rate is very high or very low, the differences of absorption rate would be very large in according to the length of column, that is to the contact time. But the effect of contact time was free about the rate constant $k_2=5.5{\times}10^6m^3/kmol{\cdot}s$, that means the rate of gas absorption become independent upon the hydrodynamics of the equipment. It has shown that instead of steel column could be applied the fine grain-graphite column.
The Gardenia jasminoides yellow pigment and converted pigments were completely separated by Amberlite XAD-4 column chromatography. These Pigments were gel filtrated on Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography. The characteristics of absorption spectra of eluate and fractionated pigments were investigated. The pigment converted by Lactobacillus plantarum showed a single blue color with an absorption peak at 588 nm and its molecular size was bigger than that of crocetin. The pigment, converted by Staphylococcus epidermidis, Showed blue-green color, which was composed of yellow color with an absorption peak at 418 nm and blue color at 588 nm. Molecular size of the yellow pigment was smaller than crocetin and that of blue color.
Beam-column joints are recognized as one of the most critical and vulnerable zones of a Reinforced Concrete (RC) moment resisting structure subjected to seismic loads. The performance of the deficient beam-column joints can be improved by retrofitting these joints by jacketing them with varied materials like concrete, steel, FRP and ferrocement. In the present study strength behavior of RCC exterior beam-column joints, initially loaded to a prefixed percentage of the ultimate load, and retrofitted using ferrocement jacketing using two different wrapping schemes has been studied and presented. In retrofitting scheme, RS-I, wire mesh is provided in L shape at top and at bottom of the beam-column joint, whereas, in scheme RS-II along with wire mesh in L shape at top and bottom wire mesh is also provided diagonally to the joint. The results of these retrofitted beam-column joints have been compared with those of the controlled joint specimens. The results show an improvement in the ultimate load carrying capacity and yield load of the retrofitted specimens. However, no improvement in the ductility and energy absorption has been observed.
It has been reported by the existing papers that the ultimate load capacity and energy absorption capacity of the CFST column are considerably higher than those resulting from a simple addition of the capacities of the concrete and the steel tube. It is normally believed that the confined effect for the infilled concrete due to the hoop tension of steel at the parameter of cross sections can remarkably improve the ductility and energy absorption capacities of the CFST columns. This paper provides the results of a study on the load-carrying capacities and energy absorption capacities of the CFST columns, a numerical analysis method, i. e. N-M interaction curves and Moment curvature relationships. The numerical approaches are verified by comparing with the existing test results and the circular and square steel tube sections are selected to clarify the amount of confinement effects to improve the ultimate deformable capacity(a ultimate strain value) of the infilled concrete. Then, an adequate value of the ultimate strain of the infilled concrete and an equation of the ultimate capacity of the CFST column are suggested.
