  • Off-axis reflective optical systems have attractive advantages relative to their on-axis or refractive counterparts, for example, zero chromatic aberration, no obstruction, and a wide field of view. For the efficient operation of off-axis reflective system, the surface accuracy of freeform mirrors should be higher than the order of wavelengths at which the reflective optical systems operate. Especially for applications in shorter wavelength regions, such as visible and ultraviolet, higher surface accuracy of freeform mirrors is required to minimize the light scattering. In this work, we propose the error compensation algorithm (ECA) for the correction of wavefront errors on freeform mirrors. The ECA converts a form error pattern into polynomial expression by fitting a least square method. The error pattern is measured by using an ultra-high accurate 3-D profilometer (UA3P, Panasonic Corp.). The measured data are fitted by two fitting models: Sag (Delta Z) data model and form (Z) data model. To evaluate fitting accuracy of these models, we compared the fitted error patterns with the measured error pattern.

  • To account for the internal thermal effects of solid-state lasers, a method using a back propagation (BP) neural network integrated with a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is developed, which is a new wavefront distortion correction technique. In particular, by using a slab laser model, a series of fiber pumped sources are employed to form a controlled array to pump the gain medium, allowing the internal temperature field of the gain medium to be designed by altering the power of each pump source. Furthermore, the BP artificial neural network is employed to construct a nonlinear mapping relationship between the power matrix of the pump array and the thermally induced wavefront aberration. Lastly, the suppression of thermally induced wavefront distortion can be achieved by changing the power matrix of the pump array and obtaining the optimal pump light intensity distribution combined using the PSO algorithm. The minimal beam quality β can be obtained by optimally distributing the pumping light. Compared with the method of designing uniform pumping light into the gain medium, the theoretically computed single pass beam quality β value is optimized from 5.34 to 1.28. In this numerical analysis, experiments are conducted to validate the relationship between the thermally generated wavefront and certain pumping light distributions.

  • The display technology on the retina is the key role in inspecting the condition of the patients. 2-dimensional retina image is widely used in the eye examination as of today. Recently, 3-dimensional retina image ones have been introduced to this area, but the quality of the image is not fully satisfied to the operator. For the purpose of developing 3-D retina imaging instrument, the optimization of a 3-D retina imaging system using Code-V tool was investigated in this thesis. He-Ne laser having the wavelength 632.8 nm was used to make a power source to detect the retina. Several lenses and mirrors installed on sledge which were developed to perform focus control on 3-D device were designed to make a beam focusing and direct line. Polygon scanner having 24 mirror facets and galvanometer making tilting movement were utilized to make a 2-D laser plane. Also, design of eye ball had been fulfilled to see the focus of the 2-D plane. Reflected ray from retina detected on the sensor array with the same path. All cognitive components were optimized for aberration correction in order to focus on retina. Results of optimization were compared to those of initial designed optics system. On the basis of above results, the result of third aberration has been corrected to stable values to the optical system. MTF evaluating the resolution of an image has been closely correlated to the diffraction limit and PSF indicating the strength distribution of an image has shown the SR value as 0.9998 having high performance. The possibility of new and powerful 3-D retina image instrument was verified by simulating each component of the instrument by Code-V.

  • This research chose the existing designed copier zoom lens system and analyzed to calculate the optical capacity. As this lens system was the zoom lens system of finite object point, differed form the general camera zoom lens of infinite object point, it got a limited movement range because it moved between the fixed object and the image. In the result of comparison the optical capacities between a symmetric form and a asymmetric form. We could find out the truth which a asymmetric form constituted comparative stable aberrations and existed a tracks of effort for aberration correction. Therefore, a symmetric form is allotted satisfactorily from improved aberrations by itself in the fixed focal lens system. However, it has a limit of improving for capacity when it is used a zoom lens system got a symmetric form.

  • A high performance afocal zoom telescope has been designed to operate in the 7.6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 10.3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ waveband for thermal imaging system. This IR zoom telescope is characterized by using of two movable optical element groups, variator and compensator, with mechanically compensated method and the positioning of these groups is controlled by means of a computerized program. The optical performance over the entire 4:1 zoom range and $\pm$2.31~$\pm$9.36 degrees field of view is near diffraction limit while maintaining a constant F-number. The all refracting surfaces of this system except only one aspheric surface are spherical curvature and the material for the optical elements is selected Ge and ZnSe which is used for correction of chromatic aberration.

  • This paper presents the optimum initial design containing the first and third order properties of the four-group video camera zoom system using lens modules, and its real lens design. The optimum initial design with focal length range of 6.1693 to 58.4065 mm is derived by assigning appropriate first order quantities and third order aberrations to each module along with the specific constraints required for optimization. By scaling the focal length of each lens group, an initial real lens selected for each group has been designed to match its focal length into that of the each lens module, and then combined to establish an actual zoom system by adjusting the air space between the groups at all zoom positions. The combination of the separately designed groups results in a system which satisfies the first order properties of the zoom system consisting of original lens modules. As a result, by residual aberration correction, we could obtain a zoom system useful in video zoom camera employing the rear focus method.

  • This paper presents the optimum initial design containing the first and third order properties of the three-group zoom system using lens modules, and the real lens design of the system. The optimum initial design with focal length range of 4.3 mm to 8.6 mm is derived by assigning appropriate first and third order quantities to each module along with the specific constraints required for the system. An initial real lens selected for each group has been designed to match its focal length and the first orders into those of the each lens modules, and then combined to establish an actual zoom system by adjusting the air space between the groups at all zoom positions. • Purpose: This study was to design wide angle mobile camera corrected optical distortion for peripheral area, which were reduced optical distortion and TV distortion by using 4 aspherical lenses. Methods: The optical design was satisfied with ${\pm}1%$ optical distortion in viewing angle of $95^{\circ}$ and total length of optical system was less than 4.5 mm which was considering a thickness of mobile camera. 1/3.2 inch (5M) CCD sensor was used in the optical system and set design condition to satisfy MTF which was over than 20% in 140 lp/mm. Results: Optimized wide angle mobile camera showed ${\pm}1%$ optical distortion in full field of $95^{\circ}$ viewing angle and TV distortion was 0.46% so that distortion of peripheral area was reduce. MTF showed over than 20% in every field. Ray aberration and astigmatism were small amount so that it showed stable performance. Conclusions: Obtain wider and clearer view which is reduced image distortion of surrounding area via optical method in wide angle mobile camera which has wider view angle than current mobile camera. And it was able to fix a demerit when it occurred via software correction. It is able to apply to study of camera which is related to spectacles.
