Many clinical studies have suggested that the blood flow in ideal geometry is involved in the development of atherosclerosis. This study simulated blood flow in the abdominal artery with real geometry to investigate MWSS(mean wall shear stress), AWSS(amplitude of wall shear stress) and OSI(oscillator shear index). The calculation grid for the real geometry was constructed by extracting the surface of arterial wall from CT(Computed Tomography) or MRI(Magnetic Resonance Imaging) sheets called as DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicines). The calculated MWSS, AWSS and OSI are much different from those of ideal geometry calculation. The MWSS increased while the AWSS decreased. Many shear forces are related to shapes of gradient. This paper will give clinical datum where the MWSS, AWSS and OSI are strong or weak. The hemodynamic analysis based on real geometry can provide surgeons with more reliable information about the effect of blood flow.

In this paper the heat health alert system, which is operated this year by way of showing an example, is a simulator linked to the Geographic Information System (GIS), and it uses meteorological data that are observed at Automatic Weather Systems (AWSs) in Seoul, Korea. Simulation results show that it is possible to use meteorological data observed by AWSs when the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) has issued alerting the public to the threat of heat waves, and to connect meteorological data to spatial data when the KMA offers local forecasts and weather-related information. However, most AWSs that were installed to manage urban disasters do not measure humidity, so general humidity is used in all districts. Therefore, to issue heat wave warnings about different localities on a small scale, we will study how to complement this problem and to examine the accuracy of data observed at AWS in the future.
The seasonal variations of sea surface winds and significant wave heights were investigated using the data observed from the marine meteorological buoys (nine stations) and Automatic Weather Stations (AWSs) in lighthouse (nine stations) around the Korean Peninsula during 2010~2012. In summer, the prevailing sea surface winds over the East/West Sea and the South Sea were northerly/southerly and easterly/westerly winds due to both of southeast monsoon and the shape of Korean Peninsula. On the other hand, the strong northerly winds has been observed at most stations near Korean marginal seas under northwest monsoon in winter. However, the sea surface winds at some stations (e.g. Galmaeyeo, Haesuseo in the West Sea) have different characteristics due to topographic effects such as island or coastal line. The significant wave heights are the highest in winter and the lowest in summer at most stations. In case of some lighthouse AWSs surrounded by islands (e.g. Haesuseo, Seosudo) or close to coast (e.g. Gangan, Jigwido), very low significant wave heights (below 0.5 m) with low correlations between sea surface wind speeds and significant wave heights were observed.
Localized atmospheric conditions between multi-reference stations can bring the tropospheric delay irregularity that becomes an error terms affecting positioning accuracy in network RTK environment. Imbalanced network error can affect the network solutions and it can corrupt the entire network solution and degrade the correction accuracy. If an anomaly could be detected before the correction message was generated, it is possible to eliminate the anomalous satellite that can cause degradation of the network solution during the tropospheric delay anomaly. An atmospheric grid that consists of four meteorological stations was used to detect an inhomogeneous weather conditions and tropospheric anomaly applied AWSs (automatic weather stations) meteorological data. The threshold of anomaly detection algorithm was determined based on the statistical weather data of AWSs for 5 years in an atmospheric grid. From the analytic results of anomaly detection algorithm it showed that the proposed algorithm can detect an anomalous satellite with an anomaly flag generation caused tropospheric delay anomaly during localized atmospheric conditions between stations. It was shown that the different precipitation condition between stations is the main factor affecting tropospheric anomalies.

Urban heat islands related with Cheongyecheon restoration in Seoul metropolitan area for the summertime of 2003. To investigate the spatial and temporal structure of the urban heat island in Seoul, temperature data measured at 32 automatic weather stations (AWSs) in the Seoul metropolitan area and 12 additional stations operated by the portable device for the measurement of temperature and relative humidity in the Cheonggyecheon area. (omitted)
In this study, we analyzed the characteristics of flow around the Daeyeon automatic weather station (AWS 942) and established formulas estimating inflow wind speeds at a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model domain for the area around Pukyong national university using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model. Simulated wind directions at the AWS 942 were quite similar to those of inflows, but, simulated wind speeds at the AWS 942 decreased compared to inflow wind speeds except for the northerly case. The decrease in simulated wind speed at the AWS 942 resulted from the buildings around the AWS 942. In most cases, the AWS 942 was included within the wake region behind the buildings. Wind speeds at the inflow boundaries of the CFD model domain were estimated by comparing simulated wind speeds at the AWS 942 and inflow boundaries and systematically increasing inflow wind speeds from $1m\;s^{-1}$ to $17m\;s^{-1}$ with an increment of $2m\;s^{-1}$ at the reference height for 16 inflow directions. For each inflow direction, calculated wind speeds at the AWS 942 were fitted as the third order functions of the inflow wind speed by using the Marquardt-Levenberg least square method. Estimated inflow wind speeds by the established formulas were compared to wind speeds observed at 12 coastal AWSs near the AWS 942. The results showed that the estimated wind speeds fell within the inter quartile range of wind speeds observed at 12 coastal AWSs during the nighttime and were in close proximity to the upper whiskers during the daytime (12~15 h).
The annual variations of the urban heat island in Busan is investigated using surface temperature data measured at 3 automatic weather stations(AWSs) for the 5 years period, 2006 to 2010. Similar to previous studies, the intensity of the urban heat island is calculated using the temperature difference between downtown(Busanjin, Dongnae) and suburb(Gijang). The maximum hourly mean urban heat island are $1.4^{\circ}C$ at Busanjin site, 2300LST and $1.6^{\circ}C$ at Dongnae site, 2100LST. It occurs more often at Dongnae than Busanjin. Also the maximum hourly mean urban heat island appears in November at both sites. The urban heat island in Busan is stronger in the nighttime than in the daytime and decreases with increasing wind speed, but it is least developed in summer. Also it partly causes the increasement of nighttime PM10 concentration.

The main purpose of this study was to estimate a new regression model to explain the relationship between urban forest and air temperature in summer, 2001. This study consists of two parts: correlation coefficient analysis and regression analysis. According to correlation coefficient analysis, thermal infra-red radiations of the major land use categories found significant difference in each category. However there were no significant relationship between the data (thermal infra-red radiation and NDVI) derived from Landsat-7 ETM+ image and air temperature at Automatic Weather Stations(AWSs). After estimating various regression models for summer air temperature, the final models were chosen. The final regression models consisted of two variables such as forest m and traffic facilities area. The regression models explained over 78% of the variability in air temperatures. The regression models with variables of forest area and traffic facilities area showed that the coefficient of the first variable was even more significant than the second one. However, the negative impact of the traffic facilities area was slightly greater than the positive impact of the forest area. Consequently, the effects of forest area and traffic facilities area were apparent to explain summer air temperature in Seoul. Therefore two policies have the most important implications to mitigate the summer air temperature in Seoul: to expand and to conserve the urban forest; and to change the Oafnc facilities'characteristics. The results from this study are expected to be useful not merely in informing the public that urban forest mitigates summer air temperahne, but in urging the necessity of budgets for trees and managing urban forests. It is recommended that field swey of summer air temperature be Performed for the vadidation of the models. A relationship between cloud-to-ground lightning and rainfall was investigated by using the two-years (2006-2007) summer lightning data and the automatic weather stations (AWSs) data of the Korea Meteorological Administration. The negative lightning occurred at the core of highly concentrated convection, which is often accompanied with heavy rains. Whereas most positive lightning occurred at the anvil cloud with low density and light rains. The rainfall intensity is strongest when the negative and positive lightning occurred concurrently, and one with lightning is much stronger than that without lightning. A portion of the positive lightning of the total lightning was less than 10% during summer seasons, and the lightning without rains was about 34%. The rain rate was strongly correlated with the negative flash rate, and the correlation coefficients varied between 0.87 and 0.94 according to the co-location radius (5-15 km) of AWSs. Most of the lightning occurred 10 minutes before and/or concurrently occurred with rains. A portion of the convective rainfalls of the total rainfalls was at least 20% when we define the rainfalls with lightning as convective. The convective rainfall was greater during August than in June and July. In general, the portion of convective rainfalls showed a maximum diurnal variation during late afternoon as in the rains and lightning.

In this paper we interpreted the changes in wind field over complex mountainous terrains. The results of our study can be applied for predicting the direction of fire spread and for establishing strategies for fire prevention. The study area is bounded by $12{\times}12$ km domains of the Samcheok's long-term ecological research (LTER) site located in the east coast, in which a large-fire had occurred from 7 to 13 April 2000. Because of the area's complex topography, we compared the result of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) mesoscale model with those observed by four automated weather stations. The WRF simulation overestimated the wind speed by 5 to 8 m/s (~200%) in comparison with those from four automated weather stations. The wind directions observed by the AWSs were from various directions whereas those from WRF model were mostly west wind at all stations. Overall, the simulations by the WRF mesoscale models were not appropriate for the estimation of microscale wind fields over complex mountainous areas. To overcome such inadequacy of reproducing the wind fields, we employed the ENVI-met model over Samcheok's LTER site. In order to test the model's sensitivity with the terrain effects, experimental simulations were conducted with various initial conditions. The simulation results of the ENVI-met model showed a reasonable agreement in wind speeds (about 70% accuracy) with those of the four AWSs. Also, that the variations in wind directions agreed reasonably well with changes in terrain effect. We concluded that the ENVI-met model is more appropriate in representing the microscale wind field over complex mountain terrains, which is required to predict fire spread and to establish strategies for forest fire prevention.
