한국잔디식재 옥상녹화의 온도저감 및 증발산량 평가 (Assessment of Temperature Reduction and Evapotranspiration of Green Roof Planted with Zoysia japonica)

  • This was an experimental study to evaluate temperature reduction and evapotranspiration of extensive green roof. Three test cells with a dimension of $1.2(W){\times}1.2(D){\times}1.0(H)$ meters were built using 4-inch concrete blocks. Ten-centimeter concrete slab was installed on top of each cell. The first cell was control cell with no green roof installed. The second and third cells were covered with medium-leaf type Zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica) above a layer of soil. Soil thickness on the second cell was 10cm and that on the third cell was 20cm. Air temperature, relative humidity and solar irradiance were measured using AWS (automatic weather system). Temperature on top surface and ceiling of the control cell and temperature on top surface, below soil and ceiling of green roof cells was measured. Evapotranspiration of the green roof cells were measured using weight changes. Compared with temperature difference on the control cell, temperature difference was greater on green roof cells. Between two green roof cells, the temperature difference was greater on the third cell with a thicker soil layer. Temperature differences below soil and on ceilings of green roof cells were found greater than those of the control cell. Between the green roof cells, there was no difference in the temperature reduction effects below soil and on ceilings based on substrate depth. In summary, green roof was found effective in temperature reduction due to evapotranspiration and shading effect.

한반도 남동해안 해상풍 모의에 적합한 경계층 물리방안 연구 (Study on planetary boundary layer schemes suitable for simulation of sea surface wind in the southeastern coastal area, Korea)

  • The southeastern coastal area of the Korean peninsula has a complex terrain including an irregular coastline and moderately high mountains. This implies that mesoscale circulations such as mountain-valley breeze and land-sea breeze can play an important role in wind field and ocean forcing. In this study, to improve the accuracy of complex coastal rind field(surface wind and sea surface wind), we carried out the sensitivity experiments based on PBL schemes in PSU/NCAR Mesoscale Model (MM5), which is being used in the operational system at Korea Meteorological Administration. Four widely used PBL parameterization schemes in sensitivity experiments were chosen: Medium-Range Forecast (MRF), High-resolution Blackadar, Eta, and Gayno-Seaman scheme. Thereafter, case(2004. 8. 26 - 8. 27) of weak-gradient flows was simulated, and the time series and the vertical profiles of the simulated wind speed and wind direction were compared with those of hourly surface observations (AWS, BUOY) and QuikSCAT data. In the simulated results, the strength of rind speed of all schemes was overestimated in complex coastal regions, while that of about four different schemes was underestimated in islands and over the sea. Sea surface wind using the Eta scheme showed the highest wind speed over the sea and its distribution was similar to the observational data. Horizontal distribution of the simulated wind direction was very similar to that of real observational data in case of all schemes. Simulated and observed vertical distribution of wind field was also similar under boundary layer(about 1 km), however the simulated wind speed was underestimated in upper layer.

$CO_2$아크 스폿 용접법에 의한 조립보의 굽힘강도에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Bending Strength of a Built-up Beam Fabricated by the $CO_2$ Arc Spot Welding Method)

  • In this study, bending test was performed on the real-scale, built-up beam test model fabricated by the $CO_2$ arc spot welding to evaluate the applicability of the welding method to the production of the stiffened plate in car-carrying ship. The built-up beam models which were fixed at both ends in longitudinal direction or simply supported to the rigid foundation, depending on the restraint condition of the corresponding car decks considered, were subjected to simulated design vehicle loads or concentrated point loads. During the test, the central deflection and the longitudinal bending stresses were measured from several points on the longitudinal flange face to predict the section properties of the built-up beams. The longitudinal bending stress on each spot weld were also measured to calculate the average horizontal shear force subjected to spot welds. Test results revealed that the shear strength of spot welds with their current weld nugget size and welding pitch was adequate enough to withstand the horizontal shear forces under the design vehicle loads. Although the built-up beam fabricated by the arc spot welding was a discontinuous beam, its mechanical behavior was well explained by the continuous beam theory using the effective breadth of plate. Based on test results, the criterion for the size of spot weld of which the average shear stress might meet the allowable stress requirement of AWS Code could be established.

한반도 대도시의 폭염 및 열대야 발생 특성에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Occurrence Characteristics of Tropical Night Day and Extreme Heat Day in the Metropolitan City, Korea)

  • To identify the characteristics of extreme heat events and tropical nights in major cities, the correlations between automated synoptic observing station (ASOS), automatic weather station (AWS), and temperature in seven metropolitan areas were analyzed. Temperatures at ASOS were found to be useful sources of the reference temperature of each area. To set the standard for identifying dates of extreme heat events in relation to regional topography and the natural environment, the monthly and yearly frequency of extreme heat in each region was examined, based on the standards for extreme heat day (EHD), tropical night day (TND), and extreme heat and tropical night day (ETD). All three cases identified 1994 as the year with the most frequent heat waves. The frequency was low according to all three cases in 1993, 2003 and 2009. Meanwhile, the yearly rate of increase was the highest in 1994, followed by 2010 and 2004, indicating that the frequency of extreme heat changed significantly between 1993 and 1994, 2003 and 2004, and 2009 and 2010. Therefore all three indexes can be used as a standard for high temperature events. According to monthly frequency data for EHD, TND, and ETD, July and August accounted for 80% or more of the extreme heat of the entire year.

WISE 복합기상센서 관측 자료 품질관리시스템 (The WISE Quality Control System for Integrated Meteorological Sensor Data)

  • A real-time quality control system for meteorological data (air temperature, air pressure, relative humidity, wind speed, wind direction, and precipitation) measured by an integrated meteorological sensor has been developed based on comparison of quality control procedures for meteorological data that were developed by the World Meteorological Organization and the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), using time series and statistical analysis of a 12-year meteorological data set observed from 2000 to 2011 at the Incheon site in Korea. The quality control system includes missing value, physical limit, step, internal consistency, persistence, and climate range tests. Flags indicating good, doubtful, erroneous, not checked, or missing values were added to the raw data after the quality control procedure. The climate range test was applied to the monthly data for air temperature and pressure, and its threshold values were modified from ${\pm}2{\sigma}$ and ${\pm}3{\sigma}$ to ${\pm}3{\sigma}$ and ${\pm}6{\sigma}$, respectively, in order to consider extreme phenomena such as heat waves and typhoons. In addition, the threshold values of the step test for air temperature, air pressure, relative humidity, and wind speed were modified to $0.7^{\circ}C$, 0.4 hPa, 5.9%, and $4.6m\;s^{-1}$, respectively, through standard deviation analysis of step difference according to their averaging period. The modified quality control system was applied to the meteorological data observed by the Weather Information Service Engine in March 2014 and exhibited improved performance compared to the KMA procedures.

시정과 습도 관측자료를 이용한 자동 현천 관측 정확도 향상 연구 (Improvement of Automatic Present Weather Observation with In Situ Visibility and Humidity Measurements)

  • Present weather plays an important role not only for atmospheric sciences but also for public welfare and road safety. While the widely used state-of-the-art visibility and present weather sensor yields present weather, a single type of measurement is far from perfect to replace long history of human-eye based observation. Truly automatic present weather observation enables us to increase spatial resolution by an order of magnitude with existing facilities in Korea. 8 years of human-eyed present weather records in 19 sites over Korea are compared with visibility sensors and auxiliary measurements, such as humidity of AWS. As clear condition agrees with high probability, next best categories follow fog, rain, snow, mist, haze and drizzle in comparison with human-eyed observation. Fog, mist and haze are often confused due to nature of machine sensing visibility. Such ambiguous weather conditions are improved with empirically induced criteria in combination with visibility and humidity. Differences between instrument manufacturers are also found indicating nonstandard present weather decision. Analysis shows manufacturer dependent present weather differences are induced by manufacturer's own algorithms, not by visibility measurement. Accuracies of present weather for haze, mist, and fog are all improved by 61.5%, 44.9%, and 26.9% respectively. The result shows that automatic present weather sensing is feasible for operational purpose with minimal human interactions if appropriate algorithm is applied. Further study is ongoing for impact of different sensing types between manufacturers for both visibility and present weather data.

지역규모 분석 모델을 이용한 서울 도시열섬 특성 연구 (A Study of the Urban Heat Island in Seoul using Local Analysis System)

  • A very high resolution weather analysis system (VHRAS) of 50 m horizontal resolution is established based on LAPS. VHRAS utilizes the 3 hourly forecast data of the Unified Model (UM) of the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) with the horizontal resolution of 12 km as initial guess fields. The analysis system ingests the automatic weather station (AWS) data as input observations. The analysis system operates every hour for Seoul, Korea region in real time basis. It takes less than 10 minutes for one analysis cycle. The size of grid of the analysis domain is $800{\times}660$, respectively. The analysis results from December 2010 to February 2011 showed that the mean biases of temperature, maximum and minimum temperature were -0.07, 1.6, $0.2^{\circ}C$, respectively. The temperature in the central part of the city revealed relatively higher value than that of the surrounding mountainous areas, which showed a heat island feature. The heat island appears in zonal direction since the central city region is developed along a large river. Along the heat island, the eastern region was warmer than the western region. The warmer temperature in the western part of the heat island was caused by anthropogenic heat change in conjunction with the change of land use. This system will provide more reliable weather data and information in Seoul.

지속시간 및 표고에 따른 강우량 보정에 관한 연구 (Rainfall Adjustment on Duration and Topographic Elevation)

  • 본 연구에서는 제주도내 강우 관측자료를 활용하여 강우지속시간 및 표고에 따른 강우량 보정기법을 개발하였다. 이를 위해 기상청 관측소(기상관서:4개소, AWS:13개소)의 시우량 자료와 표고별 분포를 이용하여 표고와 강우지속 시간에 대한 다항회귀분석을 수행하였다. 회귀된 모형의 평가에서 강우지속시간은 표고보다 강우량과 좋은 상관성을 나타내었으며, 강우량 보정시 표고만을 고려한 모형은 과대한 보정을 하였다. 따라서 수자원 설계시 기존의 표고만을 고려한 모형보다 본 연구에서 제시된 강우지속시간 및 표고를 동시에 고려한 모형을 적용할 경우 실제 강우 사상을 더욱 잘 반영할 것으로 판단된다. 그러나 본 연구에서 제시된 모형은 향후 부족한 표고별 강우 관측소와 짧은 강우 관측기간 등에 대한 보완이 필요하다.

지난 100년 동안 서울시에 발생한 강한 열파 패턴과 노인사망자에 미치는 영향 (Patterns of Strong Heat Waves within the Seoul Metropolitan Area and Its Impacts on Elderly Mortality Based on the Last 100 Year Observations)

  • 이 연구에서는 지난 100년(1908~2007) 동안 서울에서 발생한 열파의 변화추세와 극심한 열파 발생 시 도심내 열환경과 사망자의 시공간적 패턴을 분석하고자 한다. 최근의 온난화 경향에도 불구하고 여름철 강수량증가에 의해 서울시의 열파 발생빈도 및 강도에는 뚜렷한 변화경향이 관찰되지 않는다. 전례 없이 강한 열파가 발생한 1994년 7월의 자동기상관측 및 Landsat TM 위성 영상 추출 열분포 자료들은 도심내 형성되는 고온의 열환경에 의해 노인 질병 사망자 수가 더욱 증가하였음을 잘 보여준다. 이 연구는 차후 도심 정비시 열환경 분포를 고려해야 하는 생리기후학적 근거를 제시하고 있다.

시정계와 위성 관측 자료를 활용한 남한 안개의 객관적인 유형 분류와 특성 분석 (Objective Classification of Fog Type and Analysis of Fog Characteristics Using Visibility Meter and Satellite Observation Data over South Korea)

  • The classification of fog type and the characteristics of fog based on fog events over South Korea were investigated using a 3-year (2015~2017) visibility meter data. One-minute visibility meter data were used to identify fog with present weather codes and surface observation data. The concept of fog events was adopted for the better definition of fog properties and more objective classification through the detailed investigation of life cycle of fog. Decision tree method was used to classify the fog types and the final fog types were radiation fog, advection fog, precipitation fog, cloud base lowering fog and morning evaporation fog. We enhanced objectivity in classifying the types of fog by adding the satellite and the buoy observations to the conventional usage of AWS and ceilometer data. Radiation fog, the most common type in South Korea, frequently occurs in inland during autumn. A considerable number of advection fogs occur in island area in summer, especially in July. Precipitation fog accounts for more than a quarter of the total fog events and frequently occurs in islands and coastal areas. Cloud base lowering fog, classified using ceilometer, occurs occasionally for all areas but the occurrence rate is relatively high in east and west coastal area. Morning evaporation fog type is rarely observed in inland. The occurrence rate of thick fog with visibility less than 100 meters is amount to 21% of total fog events. Although advection fog develops into thick fog frequently, radiation fog shows the minimum visibility, in some cases.
