A Study on Improving TCP Performance over ABR/UBR Services in ATM Network (ATM 망에서 ABR/UBR 서비스상의 TCP 성능 향상에 관한 연구)

  • ATM network technology is generally used for the solution of integrating multimedia service in high-speed Internet. In Internet protocol based on ATM services, If single cell is lost in ATM layer, the entire TCP packet will be lost. Therefore, TCP performance will be degraded. In order to reduce cell loss, when congestion occur, UBR+EPD mechanism is proposed to improve the throughput in TCP over UBR, and ER scheme is suggested in TCP over ABR. In this paper, we analyzed the performance improvement effect of UBR+EPD with FRR (Fast Retransmission and Recovery), the adjusting EPD threshold parameter (R), and variation of MTU (Maximum Transport Unit) size. As a result, through the analysis of performance, we know that the improved throughput and fairness are shown by the proposed scheme.

  • The Asynchronous Transfer Mode(ATM) networks are being adopted as backbones over various parts of Internet. Also, TCP is one of the most widespread transport protocols, nowadays. It can be used with ATM. But, TCP shows poor end-to-end performance on ATM networks. Effective throughput of TCP over ATM can be quite low when cells are dropped at the congested ATM switch. The low throughput is due to wasted bandwidth as congested link transmits cells from corrupted packets. This paper examines the behavior of TCP over ATM-UBR using EPD switch in a broadband environment. With a threshold close to the buffer size, the buffer can be used more efficiently, but more drops and retransmission occurs. If the threshold is much less than buffer size, efficient is not good, but few drops can happen. Therefore, decision of the threshold is important.

  • International organizations related to air transport such as ICAO, IATA, ACI are forecasting that the number of passenger will grow about 4.4% annually up to 2015. Therefore, the innovation of given system technology and operation procedure is required in global scale to cope with the increase of air traffic demand. CNS/ATM infrastructure based on satellite is considered to play key role in order to solve the problems due to the dramatic increase of air traffic demand over the world. Free flight concept in the air transport operation has been proved with CNS/ATM infrastructure especially in USA and Europe. Therefore, it is necessary to develop key technologies to overcome technology gap and to secure international competitiveness in Korea. ADS-B is an important issue, and new element technologies should be considered as essential items which were shown in Capstone project. Nowadays, the free flight concept is combined to Air Transport Road Map such as NextGen project in USA, SESAR in Europe. In this process, free flight is included in the concepts such as ATM(Air Traffic Management), aviation security and safety, environmental protection and economy development, wide area weather variable reduction service, information integration and application between the related authorities (civil/military) etc. The purpose of research is to establish mid-term and long-term infrastructure plan and strategy for free flight realization in Korea. The analysis of action target and equipment construction status, phase construction plan of infrastructure has been performed by considering mid-term and long-term free flight plans of USA and Europe.

  • In this paper, We suggest a technique for delivering frame(CM transfering unit) based CM data streams from MOD servers to clients on ATM-LAN environment. The term 'frame' indicates the CM transferring unit. In detail, each clients try to adapt native ATM-specific service which can be connected directly from application layer to AAL without convening transport and IP layer. Also, we suggest and show result of implementation about transparent browsing mechanism using navigation server, session setting procedures using PVC between server and clients, application, AAL and QoS negotiation and reservation procedure, splitting and reassembling algorithm for frames over MTU size.

  • To implement satellite B-ISDN/ATM network, it needs to gurantee reliable transport via satelite in the poor BER environment. So, it requires to use channel coding (FEC:Forward Error Correction) schemes for improvement of BER performance, but these coding effects evoke burst errors and degradation of the QoS. Therefore we have to investigate new algorithm that compensates these weaknesses. We consider convolutional coding and concatenated coding among FEC schemes as FEC for satellite transmission and choose different compensational algorithm by the error characteristics of the using type of FEC. In using concatenated coding, this paper proposes the satellite system structure for interconnection to the terrestrial network and proposes the channel coding algorithm for improvement of transmission performances. We execute performance evaluation of the proposed algorithm by computer simulation. In detail, we propose 4 types of application ATM cell to the block coding(Reed-Solomon) and propose the new 55 byte ATM cell that enforces the error correction capability of cell header by the BCH coding. Then we propose the outer interleaverand the cell unit interleaver that evoke maximum coding effect of BCH code.

  • As the proliferation of multimedia traffic over High-speed Internet increases, ATM network will be vital to adopt as backbone network over various parts of Internet. In this paper, we investigate the performance of TCP/IP traffic flow over ABR and UBR of ATM service to study for the high throughput and good fairness by simulation technique. Although TCP is run in the transport layer, it is controlled by several methods, e.g, EPD, PPD, RED, EFCI, ER etc, in ATM layer when TCP uses the ABR/UBR service. Therefore, if one cell is discarded in ATM layer, a packet of TCp will be laost. And, also, along with the increasing of the number of VC among switches, the throughput and fairness will be degraded. In order to improve these degradations, we propose the effective parameter control operations of EFCI and ER on ABR service, and also suggest the buffer management methods on UBR service. Finally, through the simulation results, the improved throughput and fairness are shown.

Conceptual Modeling on the Adsorption and Transport of Uranium Using 3-D Groundwater Flow and Reactive Transport Models (3차원 지하수 유동과 반응성용질이동 모델을 활용한 우라늄 흡착 및 이동에 관한 개념 모델링)

  • In this study, the speciation, adsorption, and transport of uranium in groundwater environments were simulated using geochemical models. The retarded transport of uranium by adsortption was effectively simulated using 3-D groundwater flow and reactive transport models. The results showed that most uranium was adsorbed(up to 99.5%) in a neutral pH(5.5$pCO_2(10^{-3.6}atm)$ condition. Under the higher $pCO_2(10^{-2.5}atm)$ condition, however, the pH range where most uranium was absorbed was narrow from 6 to 7. Under very low $pCO_2(10^{-4.5}atm)$ condition, uranium was mostly absorbed in the relatively wide pH range between 5.5 and 8.5. In the model including anion complexes, the uranium adsorption decreased by fluoride complex below the pH of 6. The results of this study showed that uranium transport is strongly affected by hydrochemical conditions such as pH, $pCO_2$, and the kinds and concentrations of anions($Cl^-$, ${SO_4}^{2-}$, $F^-$). Therefore, geochemical models should be used as an important tool to predict the environmental impacts of uranium and other hazardous compounds in many site investigations.

A Study on Improving the Fairness by Dropping Scheme of TCP over ATM (ATM상의 TCP 패킷 폐기정책에 따른 공정성 개선에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the growth of applications and services over high-speed Internet increase, ATM networks as wide area back-bone has been a major solution. The conventional TCP suite is still the standard protocol used to support upper application on current Internet and uses a window based protocol for flow control in the transport layer. When TCP data uses the UBR service in ATM layer, the control method is also buffer management. If a cell is discarded in ATM layer. one whole packet of TCP will be lost. Which is responsible for most TCP performance degradation and do not offer sufficiently QoS. To solve this problem, Several dropping strategies, such as Tail Drop, EPD, PPO, SPD, FBA, have been proposed to improve the TCP performance over ATM. In this paper, to improve the TCP fairness of end to end, we propose a packet dropping scheme algorithm using two fixed threshold. Under similar condition, we compared our proposed scheme with other dropping strategies. Although the number of VC is increased, simulation results showed that the proposed scheme can allocate more fairly each VC than other schemes.

  • A large single crystal of AlN was grown by PVT (Physical Vapor Transport) method. The AlN crystal shaped hexagonal of the diameter of about 46 mm and the thickness of 7.6 mm was grown using 33 mm seed crystal which was grown and made by ourselves. We tried to find out repeatable growth possibility for AlN crystal growth and then to evaluate the repeatability of the growth condition of the temperature of $1950{\sim}2100^{\circ}C$ and the ambient pressure of 0.1~1 atm.

  • AAL2(ATM Adaptation Layer 2)는 짧고 가변 길이를 가지며 지연에 민감한 패킷들을 ATM 상에서 효과적으로 지원하는 프로토콜이다. AAL2 프로토콜은 이동통신망에서의 기지국(BS)과 이동 교환국(MSC) 사이의 중계선 상에서 음성 트래픽을 전송하는데 효과적으로 활용될 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 먼저 AAL2 프로토콜이 다른 AAL 방식에 비해 구별되는 특징을 살펴보고, AAL2의 성능을 시뮬레이션을 통해 분석한다. 그 결과를 토대로 AAL2 프로토콜을 이용한 음성 트래픽 전송망 설계 시에 고려할 요소들을 살펴보고 효과적인 설계 방안을 제시한다.
