  • The Asynchronous Transfer Mode(ATM) networks are being adopted as backbones over various parts of Internet. TCP is one of the most widespread transport protocols and can be used with ATM. But, TCP shows poor end-to-end performance on ATM networks. Effective throughput of TCP over ATM can be quite low when cells are dropped at the congested ATM switch. As congested link transmits cells from corrupted packets, it wastes bandwidth and throughput becomes low. This paper examines the behavior of TCP over ATM-UBR using EPD switch in a broadband environment. As threshold value closes to the buffer size, the buffer can be used more efficiently, but more drops and retransmission occur. If the threshold value is much less than buffer size, efficiency becomes low, but few drops can be happen. Therefore, the decision of threshold value becomes important factor.

  • To support multimedia services between network domains with different environments, it is required to map the functionalities in many aspects. In this paper, we implemented interworking gateway which provides protocol conversion and QoS(Quality of Service) adaptation to interwork DAVIC services based on ATM(Asynchronous TRansfer Model )network and Internet AV services. The interworking gateway converts RTSP(Real-Time Streaming Protocol ) message into DSM-CC(Digital Storage Media Command & Control) messages to control the stream that is served in ATM network, and transmits data stream by using RTP(Real-Time Transport Protocol) The interworking gateway provides QoS adaptation functionalities by QoS monitoring and MPEG filtering to meet the variation of network bandwidth.

  • this paper presents the concept of "mobile ATM', a proposal for third-generation (3G) mobile communication network infrastructure capable of supporting flexible evolution of radio technologies from today's cellular and data services towards future wireless multimedia services. Mobile ATM provides generic mobility management and QoS-based transport capabilities suitable for integration of multiple radio access technologies including cellular voice. wireless data, and future broadband wireless services. The architecture of a mobile ATM network is outlined in terms of the newly-defined "W-UNI" interface at the radio link and "M-UNI"and "M-UNI" interface which supports unified access for WATM and non-ATM mobile terminals through corresponding interworking functions (IWF) is explained. leading to an understanding of how different radio access technologies are supported by the same ATM-based core network infrastructure. Generic mechanisms for handoff and location management within the core mobile network are discussed. and related protocol extensions over the "W-UNI" and "M-UNI/NNI"interfaces are proposed. the issue of "crossover switch (COS)" selection in mobile ATM is considered, and a unified handoff signaling syntax which supports flexibility in COS selection is described. Typical signaling sequences for call connection and handoff using the proposed protocols are outlined. Experimental results form a proof-of-concept mobile ATM network prototype are presented in conclusion.

  • In the existing air traffic management (ATM) system, various types of safety alert features are provided based on trajectory data to ensure the safety of aircraft operations, along with aircraft position and detailed flight information. The urban air traffic management (UATM) system for urban air mobility (UAM) should also provide safety alert features to ensure the safety of UAM operations. Considering the operational environment of UAM, it is necessary that the safety alert features provided at least match or exceed those available in the existing ATM system. This study aims to present the safety alert features of the new UATM system that differ from those provided by the existing ATM system before introduction and commercialization of UAM. The study was conducted focusing on the safety alert features that should be provided in the event of a deviation from the UAM's path, and the establishment of the safety alert features was carried out in two parts: approach path monitor (APM), which is applied during the approach phase, and route adherence monitoring (RAM), which is applied during the cruise phase.

  • ATM and Ethernet are desirable transport mechanisms for the realization MAN(Metropolitan Area Networks). A relatively small sized switching system for MAN based on ATM is proposed and its performance is evaluated in this paper. For the performance evaluation, traffics should be firstly modeled because they are highly bursty. By varing the ratio of VBR traffics, detrimental effect of VBR traffics may be observed. Traffic load at each input port is also varied, From the results of simulation, operation conditions of the system to meet required QoS are obtained.

  • ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) has a fixed-length packet transport scheme. It is one of the promising proposals in B-ISDN.Since the packet length is fixed, it can be potentially to perform the various service to users. In this paper, a queueing model for an ATM multip`exer loaded by CBR and ON/OFF input sources is considered, and the two-queue system which each type of input sources has a queue with a finite capacity is analyzed. The cell loss probabilities for a performance measures of ATM multiplexer are derived, and are also evaluated through numerical examples. As a result, the cell loss probability of ON/OFF sources for the queue size is rapidly decreased when the multiplexed number and burstiness are increased. Since cells of the CBR source have lower priority than cells of the ON/OFF source, cell loss probabilities of CBR sources are accordingly high independently of CBR cell arrival rate when the number of CBR sources is large.

  • Asychronous Transfer Mode (ATM) provides the means to transport different types of bursty traffic such as voice, video, and bulk data. To handle more efficiently the traffic sources and to increase the bandwidth utilization as much as possible, flexible statistical multiplexing schemes must be adopted for the ATM networks. This paper presents an efficient computational procedure to calculate the queue state distribution in a finite buffer queueing system with a number of independent input sources, and the cell loss probability is exactly calculated with the use of this recursion computation method. The cell loss probability is related to a ATM multiplexer with a homogeneous ON-OFF source is also investigated through numerical examples.
