Research was initiated to investigate vegetation coverage and growth of main herbaceous flowers under low maintenance condition like a wild state. Eleven entries were comprised of 1 annual, 2 biennials and 8 perennials from widely used herbaceous flowers in Korea. Vegetation coverage and germination rate were high on annual and biennials when compared to perennials. Callistephus chinensis showed high vegetation coverage but lasted only for a year in 2001 and disappeared in 2002 as an annual. Oenothera odorata and Oenothera lamarckiana were also high vegetation coverage species with persistent only for two years as biennials. Therefore, these species should not be used in a large amount for ecological restoration when mixed with perennials because of affecting the vegetation coverage of perennials. There were considerable variations in vegetation coverage with perennial herbaceous flowers : Lotus corniculatus and Taraxacum platycarpum-high vegetation coverage species, Platycodon grandiflorum, Aster tataricus and Aster koraiensis-medium vegetation coverage species, and Aster yomena, Patrinia scabiosaefolia and Chrysanthemum indicum-low vegetation coverage species. Growth types of herbaceous flowers tested in this research were divided into 4 types : Callistephus chinensis, Oenothera lamarckiana and Aster koraiensis-wide leaf and tall type, Aster tataricus, Patrinia scabiosaefolia, Oenothera odorata, Taraxacum platycarpum, and Aster yomena-medium leaf and medium tall type, Platycodon grandiflorum-fine leaf and dwarf type, and Lotus corniculatus-fine leaf and tall type.

The main purpose of this study is to select the appropriate wild plants on the rooftop. For the purpose of the experiments, 14 wild plants(12 korean native wild plants and 2 naturalized wild plants) were chosen. As the results of the experiments, the wild plants growing on the culture soil(perlite) Among the 14 kinds of wild plants, such as Chrysanthemum boreale, Taraxacum mongolicum, Aster Koraiensis, Aster yomena, Oenothera odorata, Oenothera lamarckiana, Patrinia scabiosaefolia showed good effects on growth of above ground parts. Therefore, these plants will effective for the rooftop revegation. Callistephus chinensis and Lotus corniculatus var. Japonicus showed good height growth, wherase covering rate was worst. Chrysanthemum boreale, Platycodon grandiflorum, Patrinia scabiosaefolia were plant height, wherase covering rate was not good. As the results of the experiments, the wild plants growing on the culture soil(vermiculite) Taraxacum mongolicum, Aster Koraiensis, Oenothera lamarckiana, Aster yomena showed good effects on growth of above ground parts. Consequently, korean native wild plants such as Taraxacum mongolicum, Aster Koraiensis, Aster yomena and naturalized wild plants such as Oenothera odorata, Oenothera lamarckiana were effective wild plants for rooftop revegetation.
BACKGROUND: Yeast biotechnology finds applications in various industries. Hence, we sought to explore the yeasts associated with the flower of Aster spathulifolius Maxim. This study aimed to isolate yeasts from the flower of the plant and screen for biosurfactant-producing yeasts. METHODS AND RESULTS: We collected flowers of Aster spathulifolius Maxim. and performed pure isolation using four types of media. In total, 117 strains belonging to 4 genera, namely, Cryptococcus (75 strains), Aureobasidium pullulans (30 strains), Candida (11 strains), and Rhodotorula (1 strain), were isolated and identified by ITS sequencing. Upon in-depth analysis, Cryptococcus, the most dominant genus (75 strains) was categorized into the 'Unknown group'. Upon in-depth analysis of A. pullulans, we discovered the 'Unknown group I' (27 strains) and the 'Unknown group II' (2 strains), which have not been reported previously. Two A. pullulans isolates with potent surfactant activity were selected via the screening procedure. CONCLUSION: In this study, a total of 117 strains were isolated from the flower of Aster spathulifolius Maxim. In addition, two biosurfactant-producing yeasts were identified from among the isolated yeasts.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the functionality of ethanol extract of Aster scaber by analyzing anti-oxidant components and anti-oxidant activities, which was grown in wild and culture field. The yields of Aster scaber ethanol extracts were high after blanching treatment. The polyphenol content of dried Aster scaber grown in wild was 35.59 mg/g, which was higher than that of Aster scaber grown in culture field. The electron donating ability in all Aster scaber extracts were increased with increase in extract concentration, and the electron donating ability was the highest in extracts of the dried Aster scaber after blanching. The SOD-like activity of Aster scaber was the highest in its extract grown in wild field. In addition, the SOD-like activities of extracts of the dired Aster scaber after blanching were highest among the extracts of cultivated Aster scaber. The nitrite scavenging ability of extracts was increased at pH 1.2, and those was the highest in wild fresh Aster scaber. The inhibition effects on xanthine oxidase and tyrosinase were increased with increase in extract concentration, and the inhibition effects of extracts of Aster scaber in wild field were higher than those grown in culture field. Therefore, the consumption of Aster scaber would provide beneficiary effects due to its antioxidant activities and prevention of aging. The development of various processed food using Aster scaber will promote the consumption and its values.
This study evaluates landslide susceptibility using statistical analysis by SVM (support vector machine) and the illite index of clay minerals extracted from ASTER(advanced spaceborne thermal emission and reflection radiometer) imagery which can be use to create mineralogical mapping. Landslide locations in the study area were identified from aerial photographs and field surveys. A GIS spatial database was compiled containing topographic maps (slope, aspect, curvature, distance to stream, and distance to road), maps of soil properties (thickness, material, topography, and drainage), maps of timber properties (diameter, age, and density), and an ASTER satellite imagery (illite index). The landslide susceptibility map was constructed through factor correlation using SVM to analyze the spatial database. Comparison of area under the curve values showed that using the illite index model provided landslide susceptibility maps that were 76.46% accurate, which compared favorably with 74.09% accuracy achieved without them.
This study investigates the chemical compositions of Aster koraiensis Nakai essential oils and the quantitative changes of major terpene compounds according to various harvesting times. The essential oils obtained by hydrodistillation from the aerial parts of Aster koraiensis Nakai are being analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The essential oil compositions of Aster koraiensis Nakai are characterized byhigher contents of sesquiterpene compounds. Ninety-seven volatile flavor compounds are being identified in the essential oils from Aster koraiensis Nakai harvested in 2010, and caryophyllene oxide (8.38%), aristolene (7.08%), epiglobulol (5.57%), and ethyl furanone (4.73%) are the most abundant compounds. Ninety-five compounds are identified in the essential oils from the plants harvested in 2011, and aristolene (11.56%), calarene (9.33%), phytol (8.28%), ethyl furanone (7.63%), and epiglobulol (7.18%) are the most abundant compounds. Ninety-five compounds are being identified in the essential oils from the plants harvested in 2012, and calarene (15.3%), aristolene (14.24%), ethyl furanone (7.21%), phytol (6.98%) are the major compounds. The contents of aristolene, ${\alpha}$-caryophyllene, ${\alpha}$-muurolene, ${\alpha}$-calacorene, aromadendrene oxide, and calarene increase significantly from 2010 to 2012. The contents of ${\alpha}$-cubebene, isocaryophyllene, and diepi-${\alpha}$-cedrene epoxide decrease significantly from 2010 to 2012. The quantitative changes of aristolene and calarene according to harvesting time can be served as a quality index of the Aster koraiensis Nakai essential oils.
Watershed boundaries and flow paths within the watershed are the most important factors required in watershed analysis. Most often the derivation of watershed boundaries and stream network and flow paths is based on topographical maps but spatial variation of flow direction is not clearly understandable using this method. Water resources projects currently use 1: 50, 000-scale ground survey or aerial photography-based topographical maps to derive watershed boundary and stream network. In basins, where these maps are not available or not accessible it creates a real barrier to watershed geo-spatial analysis. Such situations require the use of global datasets, like GTOPO30. Global data sets like ETOPO5, GTOPO30 are the only data sets, which can be used to derive basin boundaries and stream network and other terrain variations like slope aspects and flow direction and flow accumulation of the watershed in the absence of topographic maps. Approximately 1-km grid-based GTOPO 30 data sets can derive better outputs for larger basins, but they fail in flat areas like the Karkheh basin in Iran and the Amudarya in Uzbekistan. A new window in geo-spatial hydrology has opened after the launching of the space-borne satellite stereo pair of the Terra ASTER sensor. ASTER data sets are available at very low cost for most areas of the world and global coverage is expected within the next four years. The DEM generated from ASTER data has a reasonably good accuracy, which can be used effectively for hydrology application, even in small basins. This paper demonstrates the use of stereo pairs in the generation of ASTER DEMs, the application of ASTER DEM for watershed boundary delineation, sub-watershed delineation and explores the possibility of understanding the drainage flow paths in irrigation command areas. All the ASTER derived products were compared with GTOPO and 1:50,000-based topographic map products and this comparison showed that ASTER stereo pairs can derive very good data sets for all the basins with good spatial variation, which are equal in quality to 1:50,000 scale maps-based products.

This study aimed to validate the ASTER surface temperature using field measurements over various land use types in the urban area of Changwon City, South Korea. The ASTER surface temperature was measured by collecting eight images during daytime and nighttime in June and September from 2012 to 2014, and field measurements were conducted over the same period when the satellite images were taken. The analyses showed that the surface temperature measured in the field during the daytime was higher than that of satellite imageries by $5{\sim}10^{\circ}C$, and the gap was higher in built-up areas. The calibration models of surface temperature showed a 60% explanatory power in areas other than parks, indicating that the models are reliable. During nighttime, except for the summer month of August, ASTER surface temperature was determined to be approximately $2^{\circ}C$ higher in contrast to daytime.
This study was conducted to increase the value of Aster glehni as a useful food resource. The Hunter L, a and b Values of Aster glehni leaves Were 34.23${\pm}$2.80, -10.59${\pm}$1.80 and 13.29${\pm}$2.51, respectively. The Shearing force and contents of tannin and dietary fiber were 4701.2g, 100.9ppm and 37.1%, respectively. The minerals identified in Aster glehni were Ca (6.93mg/kg), K (45.36mg/kg), Mg (1.70mg/kg), Fe (0.36mg/kg) and Na (1.26mg/kg). Aster glehni Kimchi was packed in polyethylene film (200g) and fermented at 20 and 4$^{\circ}C$. With regards to the color changes, the Aster glehni Kimchi fermented at 20$^{\circ}C$ showed greater increases in the Hunter L, a and b values than a 4$^{\circ}C$. The pH of the Kimchi decreased and acidity increased with storage time at both temperatures. The ascorbic acid contents decreased sharply with storage time and by about 85% at 20$^{\circ}C$ after 5 days, and 73% at 4$^{\circ}C$ after 30 days. The reducing sugar content also decreased with storage time at both 20 and 4$^{\circ}C$. The results of the sensory evaluation showed the optimum ripening times of the Aster glehni Kimchi to be 1∼3 days at 20$^{\circ}C$ and less than 20 days at 4$^{\circ}C$.
