Theoretical Approach of Development of Tracking Module for ARPA system on Board Warships

  • The maritime industry is expanding at an alarming rate and as such there is a perpetual need to improve situation awareness in the maritime environment using new and emerging technology. Tracking is one of the numerous ways of enhancing situation awareness by providing information that may be useful to the operator. The tracking system described herein comprises determining existing states of own ship, state prediction and state compensation caused by random noise. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the process of tracking and develop a tracking algorithm by using ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ tracking filter under a random noise or irregular motion for use in a warship. The algorithm involves initializing the input parameters of position, velocity and course. The actual positions are then computed for each time interval. In addition, a weighted difference of the observed and predicted position at the nth observation is added to the predicted position to obtain the smoothed position. This estimation is subsequently employed to determine the predicted position at (n+1). The smoothed values, predicted values and the observed values are used to compute the twice distance root mean square (2drms) error as a measure of accuracy of the tracking module.

  • An Integrated Bridge System (IBS) is not an officially defined term, but a concept of which integrates on a consol at bridge the primary functions of stand-alone navigational aids and communication instruments or of stand-alone units which are integrated i.e. ARPA ECDIS It aims to enable officers on navigational watch to perform their duty without impairing proper lookout. IBS has been taking shape through a rapid development of navigation and communication systems in relation with bridge configuration bridge work station and one man bridge operation system. IBS related matters have been considered for years and is on the agenda of the International Maritime Organization(IMO) for its technical details and safety aspect of possible one-man watchkeeping at night. However IMO has made it clear that human element should be the key factor in considering IBS and single watchkeeping issue. In the development of IBS ergonomic element and human psychological aspect have been more emphasized than technical requirements. This paper refers to documents presented to the IMO and its progress made in various IMO technical meetings on the development of IBS which is perceived as an effective aid to proper bridge lookout and those standards adopted by classification societies on the composition of workstation at bridge in order to identify the international trend on regulating required equipment function of workstation of IBS the regulatory review process and technical recommendations related thereto.

Study on Application of Real Time AIS Information

  • Now AIS (Automatic Identification System) has been under full operation for ocean-going vessels, and it is expected not only to identify target ships but also to take collision avoidance using AIS information with Radar and ARFA information in restricted waters. AIS information is very useful not only for target identifications but also for taking collision avoidance, but OOW (Officer OF Watch-keeping) should take care of systematic observation of AIS because of miss-operation or malfunction of AIS. In this paper, we propose the application of Onboard Ship Handling Simulator with visual system displayed 3D scene added AIS performance such as blind areas of Island, microwave propagation, ok. and maneuvering simulation using TK models, applied real time AIS information and research the effectiveness of this system for ship handling in restricted waters, and discus the principal issues through the on board experiments. Conclusion will be expected that; 1) systematic observation of ASS information using visual scene simulator with AIS information will be effectively done, 2) observation compared with Radar and ARPA information will be also useful to make a systematic observation, 3) using the recording and replay function of simulation will be useful not only for systematic observation but also to measure and to encourage officers' skill.

  • The maritime industry is expanding at an alarming rate hence there is a perpetual need to improve situation awareness in the maritime environment using new and emerging technology. Tracking is one of the numerous ways of enhancing situation awareness by providing information that may be useful to the operator. The tracking module designed herein comprises determining existing states of high dynamic target warship, state prediction and state compensation due to random noise. This is achieved by first analyzing the process of tracking followed by design of a tracking algorithm that uses ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ tracking filter under a random noise. The algorithm involves initializing the state parameters which include position, velocity, acceleration and the course. This is then followed by state prediction at each time interval. A weighted difference of the observed and predicted state values at the $n^{th}$ observation is added to the predicted state to obtain the smoothed (filtered) state. This estimation is subsequently employed to determine the predicted state in the next radar scan. The filtering coefficients ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ and ${\gamma}$ are determined from a pre-determined value of the damping parameter, ${\xi}$. The smoothed, predicted and the observed positions are used to compute the twice distance root mean square (2drms) error as a measure of the ability of the tracking module to manage the noise to acceptable levels.

부산 북항에서 VTS 시스템에 의한 출입항 선박의 접이안 작업과정의 실시간 모니터링 (Real-time monitoring of berthing/deberthing operations process for entering/leaving vessels using VTS system in Busan northern harbor, Korea)

  • The process of berthing/deberthing operations for entering/leaving vessels in Busan northern harbor was analyzed and evaluated by using an integrated VTS(vessel traffic service) system installed in the ship training center of Pukyong National University, Busan, Korea. The integrated VTS system used in this study was consisted of ARPA radar, ECDIS(electronic chart display and information system), backup(recording) system, CCTV(closed-circuit television) camera system, gyro-compass, differential GPS receiver, anemometer, AIS(automatic identification system), VHF(very high frequency) communication system, etc. The network of these systems was designed to communicate with each other automatically and to exchange the critical information about the course, speed, position and intended routes of other traffic vessels in the navigational channel and Busan northern harbor. To evaluate quantitatively the overall dynamic situation such as maneuvering motions for target vessel and its tugboats while in transit to and from the berth structure inside a harbor, all traffic information in Busan northern harbor was automatically acquired, displayed, evaluated and recorded. The results obtained in this study suggest that the real-time tracking information of traffic vessels acquired by using an integrated VTS system can be used as a useful reference data in evaluating and analyzing exactly the dynamic situation such as the collision between ship and berth structure, in the process of berthing/deberthing operations for entering/leaving vessels in the confined waters and harbor.

해기사 인적오류 예방이 가능한 새포운 선박충돌회피 시스템 개발 개념 (A Novel Collision Avoidance System to Prevent Navigator's Human Error - Development Concepts -)

  • 해기사의 인적오류는 전체 해양사고 원인의 70% 이상을 차지한다. 해양사고 중에서 충돌사고는 막대한 인적/물적 손실을 야기하기 때문에 적극적인 예방이 필요한데, 특히 인적오류에 의한 충돌사고 예방이 시급한 실정이다. 현재, 선박에서 사용되고 있는 충돌회피장치에는, Autopilot, Track Control System, ARPA/Radar, ECDIS 등이 적용되고 있으나 항해사의 인적오류 예방 기능은 없다. 본 연구에서는 기존 Autopilot의 다양한 기능에 해기사의 인적오류를 예방할 수 있는 기능을 추가한 새로운 선박충돌회피 시스템(Human Collision Avoidance System, Hu-CAS)의 개발 개념을 소개한다. Hu-CAS는 1) 선박과 물표 사이의 충돌위험을 평가하는 부분과, 2) 충돌위험의 수준을 결정하는 의사결정 모듈, 3) 결정된 결과를 반영하여 선박의 제어 변수를 도출하기 위한 제어변수 추정 모듈, 4) 제어변수를 이용하여 선박의 타 각과 속력을 제어하는 제어 시스템 등으로 구성된다. Hu-CAS는 현재의 Autopilot을 대체할 수 있고, 미래 개발될 자율운항 선박과 유인선박 사이의 충돌회피 시스템으로 적용이 기대된다.

어장에 있어서의 어선관제시스템 구축을 위한 모의실험 (The Simulation for the Organization of Fishing Vessel Control System in Fishing Ground)

  • 한국 연근해에서 조업하고 있는 어선을 효율적으로 관리할 수 있는 어선관제시스템의 구축을 위한 기초 연구로서 제주도 성산포항을 거점으로 하여 조업중인 대형선망어선단의 어로과정의 ARPA 영상을 디지털신호로 변환시켜 분석하고 VTMS를 이용하여 모의실험을 행한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. (1) 대형선망어선단의 어로과정을 분석한 결과 투망소요시간은 16분, 양망소요시간은 35분이었고, 앞잡이 배가 끌어 주는 로프의 길이는 200m, 투망시 선회경은 340.8m, 선회속도는 약 6kts로써 조업 과정을 명확하게 파악할 수 있었다. (2) 실선실험에서 구한 투$.$양망과정에 유향$.$유속을 NE, 2kts와 SW, 2kts로 가상하여 시뮬레이션한 결과, 각각 SW, NE 방향으로 편위됨을 알 수가 있었다. 이와 같이 어장환경정보 또는 어업 정보나 조선정보를 관제시스템에 가미함으로써 실제조업과 같은 상황을 예측할 수 있었으며, 클로즈업시킨 화면을 통해 투 양망중 예상되는 상황과 문제점을 검토할 수 있었다. (3) 시뮬레이션에서 사용한 VTMS의 레이더 관제범위는 16mile이었고, 관제범위를 넘었더라도 타관제선으로의 이관이 가능하였다. 또한, 관제선과 집단선단들과의 거리와 방위를 측정하고 분석하면 관제선의 위치선정이 용이함을 알 수 있었다. (4) 조업선들이 어황정보와 안전항행정보를 제공받아 안전하고 효율적인 조업을 행할 수 있는 어선관제 시스템(FVTMS)의 예측모델을 제시하였다. 이와 같이 VTMS용 관제시스템을 이용하여 선단조업어선의 어로과정에 대한 시뮬레이션 한 결과, 근접조업에 따른 잦은 경보와 추적 상실 등 몇가지 기능상의 문제점이 발견되었으므로 어선관제시스템(FVTMS)에 적합한 프로그램이 시급히 개발되어야 할 것으로 사료된다. 대한 추종 성능이 현용 어로시스템에 비하여 매우 우수하기 때문에 해상에서 어로작업시 과부하에 대한 어구의 손상 방지 및 조업 효율의 향상에 크게 기여할 것으로 판단된다.Exp.2), 실험 수온 27$^{\circ}C$에서, Exp. 1에서와 동일한 3개의 수리학적 부하량에서 산소 전달률을 측정한 결과, Exp. 1에서와 같이 수리학적 부하량과 매질의 깊이의 증가에 따라 산소 전달률이 증가하였으며, 매질의 깊이가 가장 깊은 36 cm에 대해, 수리학적 부하량이 2 $m^3$/$m^2$/min 일때, 2 kg 02 kg $O_2$/kW-hr의 가장 높은 표준에어레이션효율을 나타내었다. 위의 두 실험 결과에 따라 packed column 에어레이터에서 발포스티로폼 입자를 산소전달 매질로 이용하여 산소 전달률을 증가시킬 수 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.i, Cu, Y, Nb, La, Nd, Pb, Th in excess of 10 ppm. Subsets of Inflammatory Cytokine Gene Polymorphisms are Associated with Risk of Carcinogenic Liver Fluke Opisthorchis viverrini-Associated Advanced Periductal Fibrosis and Cholangiocarcinoma

  • Opisthorchis viverrini infection induces chronic inflammation, and a minor proportion of infected individuals develop advanced periductal fibrosis (APF) and cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). Inflammatory cytokines and/or their gene polymorphisms may link to these biliary pathologies. We therefore investigated associations among cytokine gene polymorphisms and cytokine production in 510 Thai cases infected with O. viverrini who presented with APF+ or APF-, as established by abdominal ultrasonography as well as in patients diagnosed with CCA. Levels of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines were determined in culture supernatants after stimulation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) with O. viverrini excretory-secretory (ES) products. Pro-inflammatory cytokines, IL-$1{\beta}$, IL-6, IFN-${\gamma}$, LT-${\alpha}$, and TNF-${\alpha}$ were significantly increased in CCA patients compared with non-CCA (APF- and APF+) cases. Polymorphisms in genes encoding IL-$1{\beta}$-511C/T, IL-6-174G/C, IFN-${\gamma}$+874T/A, LT-${\alpha}$+252A/G, and TNF-${\alpha}$-308G/A were then investigated by using PCR-RFLP or allele specific-PCR (AS-PCR) analyses. In the CCA cases, LT-${\alpha}$+252A/G and TNF-${\alpha}$-308G/A heterozygous and homozygous variants showed significantly higher levels of these cytokines than the wild type. By contrast, levels of cytokines in wild type of IFN-${\gamma}$+874T/A were significantly higher than the variants in CCA cases. IFN-${\gamma}$+874T/A polymorphisms were associated with advanced periductal fibrosis, whereas IL-6-174G/C polymorphisms were associated with CCA. To our knowledge, these findings provide the first demonstration that O. viverrini infected individuals carrying several specific cytokine gene polymorphisms are susceptible to develop fibrosis and CCA.
