Preparation of Bi2O3-PbO-SrO-CaO Coating Sol for Wiring and Superconductivity and Its properties

  • Cu-free multi-component sol, of which final oxide composition becomes $Bi_{1.9}Pb{0.35}SrCaO,\;Bi_{1.8}Pb_{0.2}SrCaO\;and\;Bi_{1.5}SrCaO$, respectively, was prepared through sol-gel route and coated on a bare Cu substrate. Starting materials were metal-alkoxides as follows.; [$Bi(OC_{2}H_{5})_{3}\;Pb(O^{1}C_{3}H_{7})_{2},\;Sr(O^{i}C_{3}H_{7})_{2},\;Ca(OC_{2}H_{5})_{2}$] as a reagent grade. Transparent light yellowish sol was obtained in the case of $Bi_{1.9}Pb_{0.35}SrCaO\;and\;Bi_{1.8}Pb_{0.2}SrCaO$ composition and $Bi_{1.5}SrCaO$ composition's sol was light greenish. Each sol was repeatedly dip-coated on Cu substrate four times and pre-heated at $400^{\circ}C$ and finally heat-treated in the range of $740{\sim}900^{\circ}C$. In the results, crystalline phases confirmed by XRD were (2201) orthorhombic and monoclinic phases. However, only $Bi_{1.9}Pb_{0.35}SrCaO_{x}$ composition showed pseudo-superconductive behavior after heat-treatment at $900^{\circ}C$ for 12 seconds and then onset temperature was 77 K, even though it did not exhibit zero resistance below Tc.

Physical and Sensory Characteristics of Laver Bugak (Korean Traditional Fried Dishes) During Fermentation of Starch Batter (찹쌀의 수침시간에 따른 김부각의 물리적·관능적 특성 연구)

  • This study was conducted to determine the reasonable soaking period of glutinous rice for laver Bugak (Korean traditional fried dishes) processing and to identify the sensory characteristics of three kinds of laver Bugak made with different starch pastes: GRice_1d using glutinous rice soaked for 1 day; GRice_7d using glutinous rice fermented for 7 days; and Wheat using flour. Descriptive analysis was performed by 10 trained panelists, and the 92 consumers evaluated the overall acceptance (OL), acceptance of appearance (APPL), odor (ODL), flavor (FLL), and texture (TXTL) of the samples using a 9-point hedonic scale. From the measurement result by scanning electron microscope (SEM), there were differences in the surface characteristics among soaking period for 1 day and 7 days. Ten panelists were trained, and they evaluated the appearance, odor/aroma, flavor/taste, texture/mouth feel, and after taste attributes of these samples. 36 attributes were generated by panelists and 12 attribute were significantly different across products (p<0.05). It was found that the Grice_7d sample was characterized by mouthfeel of crispiness and uniformity of bubbles, and the Wheat sample was characterized by surface of roughness, mouthfeel of crispiness and adhesiveness, relatively. And the Grice_1d sample was characterized by surface of roughness, mouthfeel of roughness, hardness, cohesiveness, toughness, and adhesiveness.

  • In the SP series of glasses, the formation of droplet is well done with increasing PbO. But in the case SP-1, droplet could not be observed in low concentration PbO. These results are considered that PbO does the role of a network modifier, so the crosslinking break down by $SiO_2$. But, in the glasses contained PbO above 50 mol%, glasses are formeddue to $Pb^{4+}$ ion does the role of a network former. As a result of electrical conductivity analysis for SP series of glasses, the electrical conduction is due to bipolaron at high temperature, and it is due to single polaron hopping at low temperature. In the SP series of glasses, electrical conduction mechanism coincide with the correlated-barrier hopping(CBH) model.

  • The U.S. security regulation is under the influence of each state's law; however, they are mostly similar. Among many states which has the longest history of security regulation in the U.S., state of New York has been shown security regulation for a long time. The state of New York has been emphasized the importance of security significantly because it is economically, culturally, and internationally important place at the same time. New York's state law of security business includes: 1. private investigators and bail enforcement agents and watch, guard or patrol agencies license law. 2. Security guard act of 1992~,3. Title 19 New York State's code of rules and regulation (NYCRR). The law of New York City's private security could inspire Korean private security law in many ways. First, administration of professional law and variety of licensure could be an inspiration to the Korean security services. Second, there are intimate partnership between police and private security in the U.S. New York police's private security partnership has been started since 1986 by Area Police/Private Security Liaison (APPL program) and there are about 1,300 of security companies participating. This program provides not only the simple partnership but also giving essential information for promoting public safety.

  • Lactobacillus plantarum KLAB21 isolated from kimchi has been shown to produce antimutagenic subtance(s) into the culture medium using Salmonella typhimurium TA100 and S. typhimurium TA98 (Rhee and Park, Korean J. Appl. Microbiol.. Biotechnol., 1999, in press). In this study, the effects of culture conditions were investigated to maximize the production of antimutagenic substance(s) against 4-nitro-O-phenylenediamine(NPD) by the strain KLAB21. Glucose(255) as a carbon source and yeast extract or bactopeptone(1%) as a nitrogen source showed the highest production of the antimutagenic substance(s). Optimal initial pH of the culture medium, culture temperature and shaking speed for the antimutagenic substance(s) production were pH 7.0, 37$^{\circ}C$ and 150rpm, respectively. Under the optimal conditions, the antimutagenic activity of L. plantarum KLAB21 culture supernatant against NPD on Salmonella typhimurium TA100 and S. typhimurium TA98 were 73.95% and 59.74%, respectively.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the reliability index of a design by applying the reduction factor of the recently developed fiber reinforced high strength concrete design guideline(draft). By collecting material and member test data performed for the development of the design guideline(draft), statistical characteristics of material strength and member strength analysis equations are obtained. A simul ation that appl ies the material statistical characteristics and the member anal ysis equation of the design guidel ine(draft) is performed, and the statistical characteristics of the section strength are calculated by combining the statistical characteristics of the analysis equation. Reliability analysis was performed by applying the load combination of the domestic highway bridge design code and concrete structural code, and it was confirmed that the design that applies the reduction factor for materials and members suggested in the design guideline(draft) satisfies the target reliability index.

Complete genome sequence of Fusarium hypovirus DK2l strain and genomic diversity of dsRNA mycoviruses isolated from Fusarium graminearum

  • We tested for the presence of double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) mycovirus in 827 Fusarium graminearum isolated from diseased barley and maize. dsRNA mycoviruses with various sizes were isolated. Of them, it was previously reported that dsRNA from DK2l isolate had pronounced morphological changes, including reduction in mycelial growth, increased to red pigmentation, reduced virulence and sporulation. (Chu et al., Appl. Environ. Microbiol. 2002). For better understanding of this hypovirulence associated with DK2l dsRNA virus, we determined the complete nucleotide sequence of dsRNA genome and named Fusarium hypovirus DK2l strain (Fhv-DK2l ). Genomic RNA of Fhv-DK2l was determined to be 6625 nucleotides in length excluding the poly (A) tail and contained three putative open reading frame. RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) and helicase domain were expected in ORF A, 54 to 4709 nucleotide position. ORE B, 4752 to 5216 nucleotide position, and ORF C, 5475 to 6578 nucleotide position, were predicted to encode 16.7kDa and 41.3kDa protein respectively each. We could not detect any conserved domains from these two proteins. Phylogenetic analysis showed Fhv-DK2l was related to Cryphonectria hypovirus 3. Ten additional isolates were found that were infected with dsRNA mycoviruses. These mycoviruses contain 2 to 4 different segments of dsRNAs with the size range of approximately 1.7 to 10-kbp in length. The presence of dsRNAs isolates did not affect colony morphology and were transmissible through conidia and ascospore with incidence of 30-100%. These results indicate that there is genomic diversity of dsRNA mycoviruses that infect F. graminearum isolates and that impact of virus infection on host's morphology and virulence is determined by the interaction between dsRNAs and the fungal host, not by the mere presence of the dsRNAs

Formulation of a New Bacillus thuringiensis Strain NT0423. (새로운 Bacillus thuringiensis NT0423 균주의 제제화)

  • New microbial-control agents were prepared with B. thuringiensis strain NT0423 having unique properties which are different with other B. thuringiensis strains belonging to serotype 7[Kor. J. Appl. Entomol. 32: 426-432.]. Three B. thuringiensis formulations designated as BioBact 10%, 20% and 40%, were made with various combinations of adjuvants. These formulations showed good physical properties in wettability, suspensibility, particle size and adherence. In addition the result of SDS-PAGE analysis indicated that $\delta$-endotoxins remain stably in all formulations. Among the tested formulations, two wettable powder formulations, BioBact 20% and 40%, comprising 20% and 40% of B. thuringiensis technical powder showed the effective control against diamondback moth larvae (Plutella xylostella) in laboratory and field tests. Especially, when compared with commercial B. thuringiensis formulations (A and B commercial formulations) in field evaluation, BioBact 20% and 40% formulations showed equal activity up to 80% lethality and a good persistence effect which remain on leaves at least 7 days.

MEAT SPECIATION USING A HIERARCHICAL APPROACH AND LOGISTIC REGRESSION

  • Food adulteration is a serious consumer fraud and a matter of concern to food processors and regulatory agencies. A range of analytical methods have been investigated to facilitate the detection of adulterated or mis-labelled foods & food ingredients but most of these require sophisticated equipment, highly-qualified staff and are time-consuming. Regulatory authorities and the food industry require a screening technique which will facilitate fast and relatively inexpensive monitoring of food products with a high level of accuracy. Near infrared spectroscopy has been investigated for its potential in a number of authenticity issues including meat speciation (McElhinney, Downey & Fearn (1999) JNIRS, 7(3), 145-154; Downey, McElhinney & Fearn (2000). Appl. Spectrosc. 54(6), 894-899). This report describes further analysis of these spectral sets using a hierarchical approach and binary decisions solved using logistic regression. The sample set comprised 230 homogenized meat samples i. e. chicken (55), turkey (54), pork (55), beef (32) and lamb (34) purchased locally as whole cuts of meat over a 10-12 week period. NIR reflectance spectra were recorded over the wavelength range 400-2498nm at 2nm intervals on a NIR Systems 6500 scanning monochromator. The problem was defined as a series of binary decisions i. e. is the meat red or white\ulcorner is the red meat beef or lamb\ulcorner, is the white meat pork or poultry\ulcorner etc. Each of these decisions was made using an individual binary logistic model based on scores derived from principal component or partial least squares (PLS1 and PLS2) analysis. The results obtained were equal to or better than previous reports using factorial discriminant analysis, K-nearest neighbours and PLS2 regression. This new approach using a combination of exploratory and logistic analyses also appears to have advantages of transparency and the use of inherent structure in the spectral data. Additionally, it allows for the use of different data transforms and multivariate regression techniques at each decision step.
