Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) allow mobile nodes to communicate among themselves via wireless multiple hops without the help of the wired infrastructure. Therefore, in the MANET, a route setup mechanism that makes nodes not within each other's transmission range communicate is required and, for this, the Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) was proposed as one of the reactive routing protocols well suited for the characteristics of the MANET. AODV uses the hop count as the routing metric and, as a result, a node selects the farthest neighbor node as its next hop on a route, which results in a problem of deteriorating the overall network throughput because of selecting a relatively low data rate route. In this paper, we propose an efficient reactive routing protocol based on the multi-rate aware MAC. Through the simulations, we analyze the performance of our proposed mechanism and, from the simulation results, we show that our proposed mechanism outperforms the existing mechanism.

Establishing a fixed path for the message delivery through a wireless network is impossible due to the mobility. Among the number of routing protocols that have been proposed for wireless ad-hoc networks, the AODV(Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector) algorithm is suitable in the case of highly dynamic topology changes, along with ZigBee Routing(ZBR), with the exception of route maintenance. Accordingly, this paper introduces a routing scheme focusing on the energy efficiency and route discovery time for wireless alarm systems using IEEE 802.15.4-based ZigBee. Essentially, the proposed routing algorithm utilizes a cluster structure and applies ZBR within a cluster and DSR (Dynamic Source Routing) between clusters. The proposed algorithm does not require a routing table for the cluster heads, as the inter-cluster routing is performed using DSR. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated and compared with ZBR using an NS2 simulator. The results confirm that the proposed Cluster-based AODV (CAODV) algorithm is more efficient than ZBR in terms of the route discovery time and energy consumption.

In MANET(Mobile Ad-Hoc Network), providing security to routing has been a significant issue recently. Existing studies, however, focused on either of secure routing or packet itself where malicious operations occur. In this paper, we propose SRPPnT(A Secure Routing Protocol in MANET based on Malicious Pattern of Node and Trust Level) that consider both malicious behavior on packet and secure routing. SRPPnT is identify the node where malicious activities occur for a specific time to compose trust levels for each node, and then to set up a routing path according to the trust level obtained. Therefore, SRPPnT is able to make efficient countermeasures against malicious operations. SRPPnT is based on AODV(Ad-Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector Routing). The proposed SRPPnT, from results of the NS-2 network simulation. shows a more prompt and accurate finding of malicious nodes than previous protocols did, under the condition of decreased load of networks and route more securely.

The route request (RREQ) packet is selectively re-broadcasted in the routing protocols that improve the broadcast storm problem of the ad-hoc on-demand routing protocol (AODV). However, in a low node density scenario, the connectivity of these selective rebroadcast schemes becomes less than that of the AODV. In order to clarify the requirements of these selective re-broadcast routing protocols, it is necessary to investigate the relationship between the node density and the connectivity. In this paper, we drive a probability to preserve the connectivity of the GAODV at an intermediate rebroadcast node. In addition, we present an intuitive method to approximate the end-to-end connectivity of the GAODV. We draw the required node density to guarantee the connectivity of 0.9 and 0.99 through computer simulations, and verify the validity of the derived theoritical connectivity by comparing with the simulation results.

Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is an infrastructure-less network that can configure itself without any centralized management. The topology of MANET changes dynamically which makes it open for new nodes to join it easily. The openness area of MANET makes it very vulnerable to different types of attacks. One of the most dangerous attacks is the Resource Consumption Attack (RCA). In this type of attack, the attacker consumes the normal node energy by flooding it with bogus packets. Routing in MANET is susceptible to RCA and this is a crucial issue that deserves to be studied and solved. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to study the impact of RCA on two routing protocols namely, Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) and Dynamic Source Routing (DSR); as a try to find the most resistant routing protocol to such attack. The contribution of this paper is a new RCA model (RCAM) which applies RCA on the two chosen routing protocols using the NS-2 simulator.

A number of routing algorithms have been studied for wireless mobile ad-hoc network. Among them, the AODV routing algorithm with on-demand method periodically transmits hello message and monitors link state during data transmission in order to maintain routing paths. When a path is disconnected, a node that senses it transmits a RERR packet to the transmitting node or transmits a RREQ locally so that the path could be repaired. With that, the control packet such as a RREQ is broadcast, which causes the consumption of bandwidth and incurs data latency. This paper proposes a LRRLBP algorithm that locally repairs a path by predicting link state before disconnecting the path based on the AODV routing protocol for solving such problems. Intensive simulations with the results using NS-2 simulator are shown for verifying the proposed protocol.
Most ad-hoc routing protocols such as AODV(Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector) and DSR(Dynamic Source Routing) do not try to search for new routes if the network topology does not change. Hence, with low node mobility, traffic may be concentrated on several nodes, which results in long end-to-end delay due to congestion at the nodes. Furthermore, since some specific nodes are continuously used for long duration, their battery power may be rapidly exhausted. Expiration of nodes causes connections traversing the nodes to be disrupted and makes many routing requests be generated at the same time. Therefore, we propose a load balancing approach called Simple Load-balancing Approach (SLA), which resolves the traffic concentration problem by allowing each node to drop RREQ (Route Request Packet) or to give up packet forwarding depending on its own traffic load. Meanwhile, mobile nodes nay deliberately give up forwarding packets to save their own energy. To make nodes volunteer in packet forwarding. we also suggest a payment scheme called Protocol-Independent Fairness Algorithm (PIEA) for packet forwarding. To evaluate the performance of SLA, we compare two cases where AODV employs SLA or not. Simulation results show that SLA can distribute traffic load well and improve performance of entire ad-hoc networks.

TMMR(Tactical Multiband Multirole Radio) is one of the important equipments for TICN which is our next military tactical communication system and it supplies to the distribution of traffic of C2(Command & Control) and SA(Situation Awareness) for unit of Brigade and below. In this paper, we define the tactical needs of military communication, and evaluate MANET(Mobile Ad-hoc Network) protocol for the future digital battle-field through performance comparison with a network simulator.
Without the aid of stationary infrastructure, maintaining routing information for all nodes is inefficient in the Mobile Ad hoc Networks(MANET). It is more efficient when every time routing information is necessary that the source node broadcasts a query message to neighbour nodes. The source node using Ad hoc On-Demand distance Vector(AODV), which is one of the routing protocols of MANET, uses the Expanding Ring Search(ERS) algorithm which finds a destination node efficiently. In order to reduce the congestion of the network, ERS algorithm does not broadcast Route REQuest(RREQ) messages in the whole network. When the timer expires, if source node does not receive Route REPly(RREP) messages from the destination node, it gradually increases TTL value and broadcasts RREQ messages. Existing AODV cost a great deal to find a destination node because it uses a fixed NODE_TRAVERSAL_TIME value. Without the message which is added in existing AODV protocols, this paper measures delay time among the neighbours' nodes by making use of HELLO messages. We propose Adaptive ERS(AERS) algorithm that makes NET_TRAVERSAL_TIME optimum which apply to the measured delay time to NODE_TRAVERSAL_TIME. AERS suppresses the unnecessary messages, making NET_TRAVERSAL_TIME optimum in this paper. So we will be able to improve a network performance. We prove the effectiveness of the proposed method through simulation.
