We present a simulation study of an algorithm for the range and angle of arrival(AOA) estimation with an interferometric synthetic aperture radar(InSAR) altimeter using a real digital elevation model(DEM). We also illustrate a step-by-step procedure of generating raw InSAR data, as well as their range and azimuth compressed data, which is to be used for the subsequent altitude and angle estimation. The AOA is estimated using a deterministic maximum likelihood estimator(DMLE) applied to the first arrived point for each pulse in the compressed data obtained with three antennas. The range bin size and the pulse repetition interval(PRI) are much smaller than the cell size of the DEM used in this study. To make the DEM compatible to the radar parameters, we first generate a higher resolution DEM by linearly interpolating the given DEM. After a brief description of the principle of the InSAR altimeter, the algorithms for altitude and angle estimation are presented, and their performance is assessed through simulation.

Containing an Angle-of-Arrival(: AOA) estimation and interference suppression techniques, an adaptive beamformer is one of core techniques for the Signal Intelligence(: SIGINT) which collect various intelligence utilizing cutting edge devices including the radar and satellite. It generates a beam with the directivity in a corresponding direction, to efficiently receive a signal from the specific direction, using antenna array. In this paper, we present the received signal model including interference signals and noise, which can be applied to an input of the signal intelligence satellite system equipped with the AOA estimation and the interference cancellation techniques, and analysis the characteristics of various signals, which can be included in the proposed received signal model. This proposed signal model can be directly applied to the performance evaluation for a variety of beamforming techniques. Also, we verify the spectrum characteristic of the presented received signal model in the frequency domain through computer simulation examples.

In the environment where various and complicated threat signals exist, RWR (Radar Warning Receiver), which can warn pilot of the existence of threats, has long been a necessary electronic warfare (EW) system to improve survivability of aircraft. The angle of arrival (AOA) information, the most reliable sorting parameter in the RWR, is measured by means of four-quadrant amplitude comparison direction finding (DF) technique. Each of four antennas (usually spiral antenna) of DF unit covers one of four quadrant zones, with 90 degrees apart with nearby antenna. According to the location of antenna installed in helicopter, RWR is subject to signal loss and interference by helicopter body and structures including tail bumper, rotor blade, and so on, causing a difficulty of detecting hostile emitters. In this paper, the performance degradation caused by signal interference by tail rotor blades has been estimated by measuring amplitude video signals into which RWR converts RF signals in case a part of antenna is screened by real tail rotor blade in anechoic chamber. The results show that corruption of pulse amplitude (PA) is main cause of DF error. We have proposed two algorithms for resolving the interference by tail rotor blades as below: First, expand the AOA group range for pulse grouping at the first signal analysis phase. Second, merge each of pulse trains with the other, that signal parameter except PRI and AOA is similar, after the first signal analysis phase. The presented method makes it possible to use RWR by reducing interference caused by blade screening in case antenna is screened by tail rotor blades.

The phased array antenna has an advantage enabling rapid beam aim without the mechanical rotation of the antenna, because it arranges multiple elements in a linear or planer (grid or circular) and electronically controls the phase for each element. The planar array antenna is generally used a grid array and a circular array, and the circular form has the higher resolution comparing to the grid form due to the its structural characteristics. However, a concentric circular array (CCA) or a concentric ring array (CRA) with multiple circular arrays which each has different radius is used in the limited area, because the entire radius should be increased for the circular array with a number of elements. In this paper, we introduce the angle-of-arrival (AOA) estimator for an adaptive beamforming satellite system based on CRA and provide the simulation results for performance evaluation. In addition, simulation results are compared and analyzed to the case for the circular array antenna.
In this paper, we propose an outlier detection algorithm called C-SCGP to prevent the degradation of localization performance based on RSS (Received Signal Strength) and AOA (Angle of Arrival) in the presence of outliers in wireless sensor networks. Since the accuracy of target estimation can significantly deteriorate due to various cause of outliers such as malfunction of sensor, jamming, and severe noise, it is important to detect and filter out all outliers. The single cluster graph partitioning (SCGP) algorithm has been widely used to remove such outliers. The proposed continuous-SCGP (C-SCGP) algorithm overcomes the weakness of the SCGP that requires the threshold and computing probability of outliers, which are impratical in many applications. The results of numerical simulations show that the performance of C-SCGP without setting threshold and probability computation is the same performance of SCGP.

The signal intelligence (SIGINT) technology is actively used for collecting various data, in a number of fields, including a military industry. In order to collect the signal information and data and to transmit/receive the collected data efficiently, the accurate angle-of-arrival (AOA) information is required and communication disturbance from the interference or jamming signal should be minimized. In this paper, we present the structure of an adaptive beam-forming satellite system based on the planar array antenna, for collecting and transmitting/receiving the signal information and data efficiently. The presented adaptive beam-forming system consists of an antenna in the form of a planar array, an AOA estimator based on the Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm, an adaptive Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) interference canceler, a signal processing and D/B unit, and a transmission beamformer based on Minimum mean Square Error (MMSE). In addition, through the computer simulation, we evaluate and analyze the performance of the proposed system.

The 5G communication system employs the millimeter wave with the extremely high frequency. Since the high frequency signal has the strong straightness, the beamforming technology based on the multiple base stations is required for services covering wide range. The beamformer needs the angle-of-arrival(AOA) information of the signal incident to the antenna, and it is generally estimated through the high resolution AOA estimation algorithm such as Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) or Estimation of Signal Parameters via Rotational Invariacne Technique (ESPRIT). Although various antenna array shapes can be employed for the beamformer, a single shape (square, circle, or hexagonal) is typically utilized. In this paper, we introduce a transmitting/receiving beamforming system based on the combined array antenna with square and circular shapes, which is proper to various frequency signals, and evaluate its performance. For evaluating the performance of the proposed beamforming system based on the combined array antenna, we implement the computer simulation employing various scenarios.

Objective : To evaluate the efficacy of temozolomide (TMZ) chemotherapy for recurrent anaplastic oligodendroglioma (AO) and anaplastic oligoastrocytoma (AOA). Methods : A multi-center retrospective trial enrolled seventy-two patients with histologically proven AO/AOA who underwent TMZ chemotherapy for their recurrent tumors from 2006 to 2010. TMZ was administered orally (150 to 200 $mg/m^2/day$) for 5 days per 28 days until unacceptable toxicity occurred or tumor progression was observed. Results : TMZ chemotherapy cycles administered was median 5.3 (range, 1-41). The objective response rate was 24% including 8 cases (11%) of complete response and another 23 patients (32%) were remained as stable disease. Severe side effects (${\geq}$grade 3) occurred only in 9 patients (13%). Progression-free survival (PFS) of all patients was a median 8.0 months (95% confidence interval, 6.0-10.0). The time to recurrence of a year or after was a favorable prognostic factor for PFS (p<0.05). Overall survival (OS) was apparently differed by the patient's histology, as AOA patients survived a median OS of 18.0 months while AO patients did not reach median OS at median follow-up of 11.5 months (range 2.7-65 months). Good performance status of Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group 0 and 1 showed prolonged OS (p<0.01). Conclusion : For recurrent AO/AOA after surgery followed by radiation therapy, TMZ could be recommended as a salvage therapy at the estimated efficacy equal to procarbazine, lomustine, and vincristine (PCV) chemotherapy at first relapse. For patients previously treated with PCV, TMZ is a favorable therapeutic option as 2nd line salvage chemotherapy with an acceptable toxicity rate.
PURPOSES: The performance of tack coat, commonly used for layer interface bonding, is affected by application rate and curing time. In this study, bonding strength tests were performed according to the application rate and curing time of asphalt emulsion. Based on finding from this study, optimum application rates and curing times are proposed. METHODS: In order to investigate bonding characteristic of asphalt emulsion, tests were performed on both asphalt concrete pavement and portland concrete pavement. Also, asphalt emulsions were tested at the application rate of 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and $0.8{\ell}/m^2$ and at the curing time of 0, 0.5, 1, 2, and 24 hours. Pull-off test and shear bonding strength test, which commonly used for bonding strength measurement of asphalt emulsion, were adopted for this study. To assess field performance under different testing condition, asphalt emulsions were applied to in-service pavement. Throughout coefficient of determination analysis between material index properties from asphalt emulsion and mechanical response from bonding strength tests, performance correlativity was analyzed. RESULTS: Test results show that optimum application rate for asphalt overlay on asphalt concrete pavement (AOA) and asphalt overlay on concrete pavement (AOC) was $0.4{\sim}0.5{\ell}/m^2$ and $0.3{\sim}0.5{\ell}/m^2$, respectively. According to the curing time increment, tensile strength and shear strength of AOC were increased to 22~44% and 20~39%, respectively. AOA case also show strength increment in tensile strength (42%) and shear strength (9%). We tested the applicability of tack coat materials at the field sites, and our findings demonstrated that the bonding (for D and E) and rapid curing (for B, C, and D, E) performances were superior than others. Among material index properties, there was a high correlation between penetration ratio and bonding strength test result. CONCLUSIONS : Result show that interlayer bonding strength was affected by asphalt emulsion type, application rate and curing time. AOC required slightly higher application ($0.1{\ell}/m^2$) than AOA. Both AOA and AOC cases show higher strength at longer curing time. Up to 2hours of curing, rapid strength increments were observed, but strength increment ratio was decreased after 2hours of curing. From the observed correlation between penetration ratio and bonding strength, it is expected that penetration ratio can be used as one of important factors affecting bonding strength analysis.
The techniques of estimating angle of arrival(AOA) have played a key role for enhancement of wireless communications using array antennas. Among those techniques, the superresolution algorithms, such as MUSIC and ESPRIT, calculate the covariance matrix of the array output vectors which are observed at the array antennas, and then by using eigen-decomposition of the covariance matrix, they estimate AOAs of the received signals with high accuracy. However, superresolution algorithms based eigenvalue decomposition fails to estimate AOAs under multipath environments. Under multipath environments, it is difficult to estimate AOAs of the received signals due to coherency and high-correlation. To resolve coherent signals, the covariance matrix is calculated by using the conventional spatial smoothing technique, and then the techniques based on eigen-descomposition is applied. The result of the conventional spatial smoothing technique, however, is obtained at the cost of losing effective spatial aperture. Moreover, the conventional technique ignores any information in the cross-correlations of the array outputs the subarrays. As the result, the performance for AOA estimation is degraded. In this paper, we propose a new spatial smoothing technique, which consider the cross-correlation for subarrays. By computer simulation, the AOA estimation performance of the proposed method is compared with the conventional method and evaluated.
