  • A nuclear Power Plant is composed of a number of mechanical components. Maintaining the integrity of these components is one of the most critical issues in nuclear industry. In order to evaluate the integrity of these mechanical components, a lot of data are required including inspection data, geometrical data, material properties, etc. Therefore, an effective database system is essential to manage the integrity of nuclear power plant. For this purpose, an internet based virtual reality environment and web database system was proposed. The developed virtual reality environment provides realistic geometrical configurations of mechanical components using VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language). The virtual reality environment was linked with the web database, which can manage the required data for the integrity evaluation. The proposed system is able to share the information regarding the integrity evaluation through internet, and thus, will be suitable for an integrated system for the maintenance of mechanical components.

  • There are numerous approaches to improve the performances of database systems. The most efficient ones are considered to be implementing an effective database indexing technique. This must guarantee the balance between the memory, storage resources and processor of the database server according to the type, structure, the physical organization and the cardinality of data, the type of queries and the number of competing transactions. The challenge is to find an appropriate index type that would suite these requirements. In this paper, we provide an overview of the most used database indexing techniques such as B-tree index and Bitmap index, present an analysis of these techniques and discuss their limitations.

  • In shipbuilding area, data sharing is one of the crucial issues. Recently, for collaborative design, ship structural CAD systems adopt the database as its primary storage. Database is useful to deal with the large amount of design information among the heterogeneous design department and design stage. To make the database-based CAD system object-oriented database(OODB) and object-relational database(ORDB) can be used. It is important to select proper database because the CAD system performance mainly depends on access performance of database. In this research, using prototype CAD system from other research, access performance of OODB and ORDB form CAD system was evaluated. STEP application protocol was used as the database schema and experiment was made in query by property and query by region. The results give some idea of how to choose the database for CAD systems.

  • The Database Industry Promotion Act was proposed at the National Assembly plenary session on July 26, 2012 and since then it has been in the process of enactment in consultation with all the governmental departments concerned. The recent trend of economic globalization and smart device innovation suggests a new opportunity and challenges for all industries. The database industry is also facing a new phase in an era of smart innovation. Korea is in a moment of opportunity to take an innovative approach to promoting the database industry. Korea should set up a national policy to promote the database industry for citizens, government, and research institutions, as well as enterprises. Above all, the Database Industry Promotion Act could play a great role in promoting the social infrastructure to enhance the capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises. This article discusses the background of the development of the Database Industry Promotion Act and its legislative processes in order to clarify its legal characteristics, including the meaning of the act. In addition, this article explains individual items related to the overall structure of the Database Industry Promotion Act. Finally, this article reviews the economic effects of the database industry for now and the future.

  • Because of the development of advanced construction technology, the inner environments of building become more and more complicated, which may result in many problems. The administer may forget where they put up the certain picture, and search for it all over the building, or they underestimate the number of the visitors, and find the situation is out of control, while the pedestrian may get lost, and after making their efforts, they found they turned back to the origin point again. So it is very necessary to establish an indoor spatial database. On one hand, it is able to assist administrator to manage the property and human flow inside the building, on the other hand it could help the pedestrian find the way easily especially when they are not familiar with the building or there is an emergency. This paper focused on how to create the indoor spatial database including both static database and moving objects database. The static database is built on the basis of 3D building models, and the moving objects database gets information from many kinds of cameras and sensors installed in the building. And at the same time the paper discussed the practical use of indoor spatial database mainly in three aspects including consistency management, building restructure, and pedestrian navigation.

  • Due to the widespread use of mobile devices, smartphone penetration and usage rate continue to increase and there is also an increasing amount of data that need to be stored and managed in applications. Therefore, recent applications use mobile databases to store and manage user data. Realm database, developed in 2014, is attracting more attention from developers because of advantages of continuous updating, high speed, low memory usage, simplicity and readability of the code. It also supports an encryption to provide confidentiality and integrity of personal information stored in the database. However, since the encryption can be used as an anti-forensic technique, it is necessary to analyze the encryption and decryption processes provided by Realm Database. In this paper, we analyze the structure of Realm Database and its encryption and decryption process in detail, and analyze an application that supports an encryption to propose the use cases of the Realm Database.

  • Building a knowledge base effectively has been an important research area in the expert systems field. A variety of approaches have been studied including rules, semantic networks, and frames to represent the knowledge base for expert systems. As the size and complexity of the knowledge base get larger and more complicated, the integration of knowledge based with database technology cecomes more important to process the large amount of data. However, relational database management systems show many limitations in handing the complicated human knowledge due to its simple two dimensional table structure. In this paper, we propose Object-Oriented Knowledge Store (OOKS), a knowledge base model on the basis of a frame sturcture using an object-oriented database. In the proposed model, managing rules for inferencing and facts about objects in one uniform structure, knowledge and data can be tightly coupled and the performance of reasoning can be improved. For building a knowledge base, a knowledge script file representing rules and facts is used and the script file is transferred into a frame structure in database systems. Specifically, designing a frame structure in the database model as it is, it can facilitate management and utilization of knowledge in expert systems. To test the appropriateness of the proposed knowledge base model, a prototype system has been developed using a commercial ODBMS called ObjectStore and C++ programming language.

  • As a part of the era of human centric applications people started to care about their well being utilizing any possible mean. This paper proposes a framework for real time on-body sensor health-care system, addresses the current issues in such systems, and utilizes an enhanced online divisive agglomerative clustering algorithm (EODAC); an algorithm that builds a top-down tree-like structure of clusters that evolves with streaming data to rationally cluster on-body sensor data and give accurate diagnoses remotely, guaranteeing high performance, and scalability. Furthermore it does not depend on the number of data points.

  • Recently with developments of an internet and web techniques, the amount of data that are stored in database is increasing rapidly. So the range of adaption in database has been expanded and a research of Data Mining techniques finding useful skills from the huge database has been progressed. Many original algorithms have been developed by cutting down the item set and the size of database isn't required in the entire course of creating frequent item sets. Although those skills could save time in some course, it requires too much time for adapting those techniques in other courses. In this paper, an algorithm is proposed. In an Transaction Database that the length of it's transactions are short or the number of items are relatively small, this algorithm scans a database once by using a Hashing Technique and at the same time, stores all parts of the set, can be appeared at each transaction, in an Hash-table. So without an influence of n minimum percentage of support, it can discover a set of frequent items in more shorter time than the time what is used by an original algorithm.

  • The Entity-Relationship (E-R) model is widely used not only to increase understanding between user and designer, but also to model the relationship of real world data appropriately when designing database system in many application areas. It should be then transformed into an Object-Oriented database model which gives good merits to represent and manipulate data efficiently. Therefore, a method of transforming an E-R model into an Object-Oriented database model should be studied, but without losing any semantics of concept for the E-R model. This paper not only deals with transformation rules taking as input the elements of E-R model and delivering the elements of an Object-Oriented database model, but also improves the concept of generalization and aggregation inheritance. The paper also presents a method of transformation of relationship depending on these rules. The proposed method that obtains Object-Oriented database schema from an E-R model with preserving the properties of the E-R model is shown with examples. The method presented is able to be used to the logical database design.
