Species Diversity of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi Community Depending on Environmental Conditions of Forest Soils (산림(山林)의 토양환경(土壤環境) 조건(條件)에 따른 수지상(樹枝狀) 균근(菌根)(AM)균(菌) 집단(集團)의 종(種) 다양성(多樣性))

  • Arbuscular mycorrhizal(AM) fungi have significant role for ecosystem structure and function. They are the major component of forest soil ecosystems and critically important for water and nutrient cycling in the system. To understand the ecology of AM fungi the fungal spores were collected, identified and counted in forest soils under various climatic and edaphic conditions. In relation to soil depth 90% of AM fungi spores and mycorrhizas distributed within 15cm soil depth. Number of spores per $100m{\ell}$ forest soil volume was 5 to 36 spores from 1 to 3 fungal species. AM fungal species diversity was higher in warmer climates, and more moist and fertile soils. The most frequently found species were Gigaspora decipiens irrespective of soil moisture and Gi. gigantea irrespective of soil fertility. In the Jeju island the soils of Cryptomeria japonica plantations and Miscanthus sinensis var. purpurascens meadow had more AM spores than the other soils. We suggest AM fungi be considered as keystones species when restoring a disturbed forest ecosystem.

Immunobiological Studies on Route of Administration of Amygdalin (아미그달린의 투여경로에 따른 면역생물학적 연구)

  • Experiments were performed on male Sprague-Dawley rats to investigate the immunobiological effects on route of administration of amygdalin(AM). Rats were administered orally at 12.5, 25, or 50mg/kg/day of AM or injected wtih 25,50, or 100mg/kg/day of AM intravenously for 2 weeks. Rats were immunized and challenged with sheep red blood cells(SRBC). The results of this study were summarized as follows;(1) In oral administration of AM, body weight gains were significantly increased by 50mg/kg AM as compared with controls, the relative weights of liver and thymus also were significantly increased by 12.5 and 25mg/kg AM. However, 2-mercaptoethanol-resistant hemagglutination titier (2-MER HA), Plaque forming cells (PFC) and rosette forming cells (RFC) were non-dose dependently decreased. Phagocytic activity and delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) reaction also were significantly decreased by 50mg/kg AM. (2) In intravenous injection of AM, body weight gains, hemagglutination titer (HA), 2MER-HA, DTH reaction, PFC, RFC and circulating leukocytes were not influenced by AM. However, the relative weights of liver, spleen and thymus were significantly enhanced 100mg/kg AM. These results indicated that oral administration of AM non-dose dependently suppresses humoral and cell-mediated immunity in SD rats, and that intravenous injection of AM is unaffected humoral and cell-mediated immunity, however, the high dose of it significantly enhances phagocytic activity.

Effect of Alloying Elements on Creep Behavior of Mg-Al Alloys (Mg-Al 합금의 크리프 거동에 미치는 합금원소의 영향)

  • In this study, three magnesium alloys were investigated; those are 1.5wt.% CaO added AM80, 1.0wt.% CaO added AM60, and conventional MRI153 alloys. Test specimens of three alloys were prepared by re-melting and casting into steel mold with ingots and machining. The mechanical properties and the creep behavior at 150 degrees Celsius of these specimens were determined and their microstructures were characterized using OM and SEM. For the application to die-casting, fluidity test were carried out with spiral mold. Compared with 1.0wt.% CaO added AM60 alloy, 1.5wt.% CaO added AM80 alloy exhibited good creep properties in all test conditions. Moreover, CaO added alloys showed better creep properties than MRI153 alloy at lower load condition. It is proposed that 1.5wt.% CaO added AM80 alloy is useful to apply to power-train parts such as transmission case in vehicles.

  • Methylotrophy is able to use reduced one-carbon compound, such as methanol and methylamine, as a sole carbon source. Methylobacterium extorquens AM1 is the most extensively studied methylotroph utilizing serine-isocitrate lyase cycle. Because the Poly 3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) synthesis pathway in M. extorquens AM1 is likely to interlink with EMCP (ethylmalonyl-CoA pathway), glyoxylate, and TCA cycles, regulation of PHB production is needed to produce EMCP-derived acid or TCA acids. To adjust carbon flux to PHB production, PhaR, which seems to have function of regulator of PHB synthesis and acetyl-CoA flux, was knocked out in M. extorquens AM1 by using markerless gene deletion methods. As a result, PHB granules were remarkably reduced in the knockout strain ${\Delta}phaR$ compared to parental strain. Although lag phase was extended for 12h, ${\Delta}phaR$ showed similar cell growth and methanol consumption rate compared to wild type.

Evaluation of an Amniotic Membrane-Collagen Dermal Substitute in the Management of Full-Thickness Skin Defects in a Pig

  • Background To minimize the inflammatory reaction and improve healing, a new modified dermal substitute composed of an atelocollagen, chondroitin-6-sulfate, and amniotic membrane (AM) was applied to full-thickness skin defects in a pig. Atelocollagen was extracted from bovine skin, and two modified dermal substitutes were generated according to the cross-linking type. Methods The AM-collagen dermal substitutes were characterized and compared with currently used dermal substitutes in a pig skin defect model. There were five experimental groups: dehydrothermal (DHT) cross-linking atelocollagen with the AM on the top (AM-DHT), DHT and chemical cross-linking atelocollagen with the AM on the top (AM-DHT/chemical), Terudermis, Integra, and AlloDerm. After $3{\times}3cm$ full-thickness skin defects on the back of a pig were created, each dermal substitutes dermal substitutes was randomly grafted on the defects. Two weeks after grafting, autologous partial-thickness skin was over-grafted on the neodermis. The take rate of the dermal substitutes, skin, and histological sections were all assessed at 1, 2, and 4 weeks postoperatively. Results More rapid healing and a higher take rate were evident in the AM-DHT and Terudermis groups. Histological examination revealed fewer inflammatory cells and more fibroblast hyperplasia in these two groups. Four weeks after surgery, the amount of newly formed collagen was significantly more appropriate in the AM-DHT group. Conclusions These observations provide supporting evidence that a newly developed amniotic-collagen dermal substitute may inhibit inflammatory reactions and promote wound healing.

Implementation of the Vehicle Antenna for the AM/FM/TDMB/GPS Receiver (AM/FM/TDMB/GPS 수신용 전장 안테나 제작)

  • In this paper, a vehicle antenna for AM, FM, TDMB, GPS systems was designed and implemented. AM antenna loaded into small space of shark shape was designed by ferrite turn style antenna. For the FM and TDMB antenna, folded monopole antenna which helical is folded was applied. GPS antenna for achieving characteristics both bandwidth and gain improvement was designed microstrip patch that has air substrate and fractal structure. Receiving signal strengths by the measurement were presented for the AM, FM and TDMB antenna. AM signal strength was -65.7dBm, this strength is almost as same conventional pole antenna as -63.4dBm. It can be replaced conventional pole or glass antenna by the studied antenna. Signal strengths for FM and TDMB were -55.66 and -43.50dBm at center frequency, they are 5~10dB higher than conventional antenna. Measurements of bandwidth and gain for the GPS antenna showed 135 MHz under VSWR 2 : 1 and 4.31dBi, gains over GPS band were 3~5dB higher than ceramic patch antenna.

Di-(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid 추출제에 의한 Am(III), Eu(III) 및 Np(Ⅵ)의 상호분리연구

  • $^{152}$EU, $^{241}$Am 및 $^{241}$Np를 선정하여 추출제 di-(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (DEHPA)로 이들 세가지 핵종의 상호 분리공정에 대해 연구하였다. 추출공정에서 질산농도는 0.IM이고 추출 제DEHPA/n-dodecane 농도가 IM 일때, $^{152}$Eu 및 $^{241}$Am, $^{241}$Np 핵종 모두 99.9% 이상 추출되었다. $^{241}$Am 핵종의 역추출을 위한 제 1 역추출공정에서 역추출제인 0.05M di-ethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA)와 1.5M 젖산 (lactic acid) 혼합용액의 pH가 3.6 일때 $^{152}$Eu과 $^{241}$Am의 상호분리비와 역추출율이 가장 좋았다. $^{152}$Eu의 역추출을 위한 제 2 역추출단계에서 역추출제인 질산용액의 최적농도는 6M이며, 이때 $^{152}$Eu은 99%가 역추출되었다.$^{241}$Np 핵종의 역추출을 위한 제 3 역추출공정에서 역추출제는 0.5M 옥살산이며, 이때 $^{241}$Np은 92%가 역추출되었다.

Effect of Cyclodextrins on the Solubility and Stability of Aspalatone in Aqueous Solutions (수용액중 시클로덱스트린류가 아스팔라톤의 용해성과 안정성에 미치는 영향)

  • The effect of cyclodextrins on the solubility and stability of aspalatone (acetylsalicylic acid maltol ester, AM, CAS 147249-33-0), which has been recently found to have an antithrombotic effect, was investigated. The addition of ${\beta}-cyclodextrin\;({\beta}-CD),\;dimethyl-{\beta}-cyclodextrin\;(DMCD)\;or\;2-hydroxypropyl-{\beta}-cyclodextrin\;(HPCD)$ to the aqueous solution increased the solubility of AM concentration-dependently. From the phase solubility diagram, stability constants for $AM-{\beta}-CD$, -DMCD or -HPCD complexes were calculated to be 43.1, 78.3 and $53.0\;M^{-1}$. The addition of ${\beta}-CD$, DMCD or HPCD to AM solution retarded the degradation rate of AM in the acidic region. However, ${\beta}-CD$ and HPCD rather acted as an accelerator of degradation in the neutral and alkaline regions. DMCD had a stabilizing effect at all pHs studied.

  • This study was produced to examine the effects of moxibution that had been played a role of traditional oriental medical treatment on disease. We used LPS and INF-gamma in RAW 264.7 cell line to produce Nitric Oxide(NO). And results was that Moxi tar decreased NO in activated RAW 264.7 cell by LPS and INF-gamma significantly, which was decreasing Nitric Oxide Synthase. So we proposed that Moxi tar had anti-inflammation and anti-cytotoxity in RAW 264.7 cell by decreasing Nitric Oxide Synthase.

First Record of Three Uronychia Species (Ciliophora: Spirotrichea: Euplotida) from Korea

  • Three morphospecies of the genus Uronychia, i.e. U. setigera Calkins, 1902, U. binucleata Young, 1922, and U. multicirrus Song, 1997, were collected from the coastal waters of Gumjin-ri on the East Sea and the public waterfront of Incheon on the Yellow Sea in Korea, respectively. These species are described based on live observation, protargol impregnation, silver nitrate impregnation, and their morphometrics. Diagnostic keys for these species are also provided. In addition, their small subunit ribosomal DNA sequences were compared with previously known sequences of Uronychia species. Diagnostics of three Uronychia species are as follows: U. setigera: $50-80\;{\mu}m$ long in vivo, oval-shaped, 2 macronuclear nodules (Ma), 1 spur on the left margin, 11 adoral membranelles (AM) 1, 4 AM2, 1 buccal cirrus (BC), 4 frontal cirri (FC), 3 left marginal cirri (LMC), 2 ventral cirri (VC), 5 transverse cirri (TC), 3 caudal cirri (CC), 6 dorsal kineties (DK), and approximately 23 cilia in the leftmost kinety. U. binucleata: $70-110\;{\mu}m$ long in vivo, oval to slightly rectangular shaped, 2 Ma, 1 micronucleus (Mi), 2 spurs on the posterior region, 11 AM1, 4 AM2, 1 BC, 4 FC, 3 LMC, 2 VC, 5 TC, 3 CC, 6 DK, and approximately 37 cilia in the leftmost kinety. U. multicirrus: $140-200\;{\mu}m$ long in vivo, oval to slightly rectangular shaped, ca. 7 Ma, 1 Mi, 11 AM1, 4 AM2, 1 BC, 4 FC, 3 LMC, approximately 8 VC, 5 TC, 3 CC, and 6 DK. This study presents the first record of this genus in Korea.
