  • Current statistics reveal remarkable prolongation of the average longevity in this country for the past decade. Welfare of the aged is no longer sole concern of the person or/and family. but has aroused social concern on the community and national level. This study was designed to assess social, economic and emotional needs of the aged. and to identify problems they are confronting. Data were gathered through questioning 273 subjects living in Seoul from July 25, to August 31. 19 80. Frequencies and percentile scores were analysed to describe the fact. and the significance of int or-variable differences was tested by Chi-square method. Results are : 1. Majority of the subjects (male : 65.38%). (female : 62.13%)“talk about past experiences”to re-collect their past days, the difference between male and female respondents was not significant. 2. Except few who earn their pocket money (4.21%). majority were doing household errands (34.52% ) and looking after their garnd children (29.26 %). Main sources of their pocket money revealed to be their children (84.02%) and their own savings (24.64% ). Except few (15%)engaged with social activities directly or indirectly. leisure hours are spent in chatting with aged neighbors (44.81%). Highest in the rank order on the joyous moments for the aged revealed to be when the members of family living apart paying a visit (male : 37.5%, female : 63.72%)difference of male and female was significant ( P<0.05). Among female respondents. significant difference between age group was revealed (p<0.05). 3. Majority prefered sin91e houses (84.30% ). as residential environment. the suburban (36.26% ) area was the filet in the rank order : difference between age group and the educational status were not significant. Majority of respondents revealed to have their own room in the house. The first preference was given to live with their children (68.86%). Memory of the past (37.36% )revealed to be the highest in the rank order among the reasons why they dislike moving the house. 4. Majority favored current welfare benefts provided for the old age. however. the ideal way to live at their old age they responded was to live on their own savings (50.54%). 5. Majority revealed to be daunted occasionally (62.27%) by not being less active (34.16%) socially and by poor physical health(29.75%). Male and female differ in the causes of loneliness significantly (P <0.001) : retirement (37.89%) in ale and helpessness (43.05%) in female revealed the highest in the rank order. Majority talk over their feelings with aged neighbors to overcome the loneliness. 6 Majority were in favor of planting and looking after pet animal in the house. however. male and female differ in the kind significantly (p <0.001), 7. Majority think about death and dying occasionally or more (84.11% ). Many of the respondents believes in the life after life (53.49%) : female revealed to be significantly higher (p <0.01). and subjects with christian belief were significantly higher than non-christians (P<0.001). Attitude towards death and dying differs significantly between male and female (P <0. 001) and between christians ans and nonchristians (p <0.001). Highest preference was given to simple funeral (69.85%). Precious heritage that they would pass on to their descendants was onoscience and ethical value(57. 51%) : christian response as the first value was christian belief (52.38%).

  • Interactive electronic technical manual(IETM) for construction projects means an electronic tool that regulations and specifications related to construction method or maintenance process ale described by electronic book type. It has a meaning of integrated information system that includes virtual reality(VR), 3D animation and image contents for representing real construction information so that user can easily understand the construction situation and maintenance process. The basic information and technical manuals of construction facilities are being written as paper documents in our construction industry. As the result, the information management in the maintenance phase of construction projects is inefficient, and maintenance cost is being increased. This study attempts to improve the lack of understanding about construction IETM through the analysis of necessity and unique function of construction IETM comparing with the IETMS in other industry, Finally, this study shows a scenario of construction IErM for mitigating natural disaster of construction facilities to verify applicability of IETM.

  • This study was carried out to determine the antioxidative, antimutagenic, and anticancer effects of Rhodiola sachalinensis root using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical donating method, Ames test and cytotoxicity, respectively. Rhodiola sachalinenis root were extracted with ethanol and then further fractionated to n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate (EtOAc), butanol and water, stepwise. Among five fractions, the Etohc fractions showed the highest electron donating activities (14.3 $\mu$g/mL). The inhibition rate of ethanol extract (200$\mu$g/plate) of Rhodiola sachalinensis root in the S. typhimurium TA100 strain showed 89.1% inhibition against the mutagenesis induced by MNNG. In addition, the suppression of EtOAc fractions with same concentration of Rhodiola sachalinensis root in the S. typhimurium TA98 and TAI00 strains showed 89.7% and 91.5% inhibition against 4NQO, respectively. The suppressions under the same condition against B($\alpha$)P and Trp-P-1 in the TA98 and TA100 strains were 94.2% and 95.7%, and 92.3% and 93.8%, respectively. The cytotoxic effects of Rhodiola sachalinensis root against the cell lines with human lung carcinoma (A549), human hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2), human gastric carcinoma (AGS) and human breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7) were inhibited with the increase of the extract concentration. The treatment of 1.0 mg/mL Rhodiola sachalinensis root of EtOAc fraction showed strong cytotoxicities of 90.5%, 81.5%, 92.2% and 82.6% against A549, HepG2, AGS and MCF-7, respectively.

  • This study was conducted from August 2017 to May 2018. Beer was prepared by different ratio of rice and malt and different types of beer, and quality analysis were conducted. The ratio of rice and malt was divided into 0:100 (S0), 20:80 (S1), 40:60 (S2), 60:40 (S3) and 80:20 respectively. We compared the characteristics of the mashing methods(infusion and decoction method) and investigated the characteristics of different types of beer (lager, ale, wheat beer) using yeast (bottom and top yeast). Even with different ratios of rice and malt, normal infusion time was observed and the iodine test was confirmed to be normal. Also, the mashing proceeded normally and the sugar content of the primary wort was between $21.0{\sim}21^{\circ}brix$. In mashing method, the mash concentration, color and flavor of wort were the highest in the three mash method(decoction method). During the fermentation period of beer, the sugar content, pH and yeast number did not differ significantly depending on the ratio of rice and malt, and the type of yeast. Higher alcohol and esters also had no correlation with the ratio of rice to malt, and wheat beer was somewhat higher. The higher the ratio of rice, the more the color intensity(EBC) decreased, the bitter unit(BU) and the preference decreased. When the rice ratio was higher than the malt rate, the degree of preference decreased significantly. Based on the results of this study, it is expected that the rice ratio will be less than the malt ratio and the flavor of the wort will be improved by using the deccoction method. If the malt is supplemented with the use of the special malt and the various hops according to the beer type, it may be helpful to manufacture rice beer.
