AISI304L stainless steel에 저온 플라즈마 침탄처리 후 질화처리 시 Ar의 영향 (Effect of Ar addition on the surface properties of AISI304L stainless steel during low temperature plasma nitriding after low temperature plasma carburizing)

  • 스테인리스강을 침탄 또는 질화처리 하면 내식성이 크게 떨어진다. 하지만 처리 온도를 충분히 낮게 하면 내식성의 저하 없이 표면 경도를 증가시킬 수 있다. 침탄처리 후 질화 처리를 연속적으로 수행하면, 두꺼운 경화층을 가지고, 침탄처리한 표면보다 높은 경도를 가질 수 있다. 이 논문에서는 침탄처리 후 질화 처리시, Ar을 주입하여 질화층 형성에 주는 영향을 조사 하였다. Ar의 양이 20%보다 낮은 경우 석출물이 거의 형성되지 않았으며, Ar의 양이 증가할수록 표면경도도 증가하였다.

Improved Adhesion of DLC Films by using a Nitriding Layer on AISI H13 Substrate

  • Diamond-like carbon (DLC) is difficult to achieve sufficient adhesion because of weak bonding between DLC film and the substrate. The purpose of this study is to improve the adhesion between substrate and DLC film. DLC film was deposited on AISI H13 using linear ion source. To improve adhesion, the substrate was treated by dual post plasma nitriding. In order to define the mechanism of the improvement in adhesive strength, the gradient layer between substrate and DLC film was analyzed by Glow Discharge Spectrometer (GDS) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The microstructure of the DLC film was analyzed using a micro Raman spectrometer. Mechanical properties were measured by nano-indentation, micro vickers hardness tester and tribology tester. The characteristic of adhesion was observed by scratch test. The adhesion of the DLC film was enhanced by active screen plasma nitriding layer.

Statistical characterisation of end milling of AISI 52100 annealed bearing steel

  • The present paper is a contribution in characterising end milling process of AISI 52100 ball bearing steel through statistical analyses of variance (ANOVA). The latter has been performed to identify the effect of the cutting parameters on the machined surface roughness and the cutting tool life. Wear measurements have been carried on multilayer coated carbide inserts and the respective surface roughness has been recorded. Taguchi's technique has been adapted to conduct the design experiments in terms of orthogonal arrays according to the cutting parameters (cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut), the type of coating (TiN, TiCN, TiAlN) and lubricating condition. Regression analyses have conducted to the development of simplified empirical models that can be effectively used to predict surface roughness and tool wear in the present milling process.

오스테나이트계 316강의 장시간 재료 열화에 따른 미세조직의 변화와 기계적 특성의 변화 (Variation in Microstrutures and Mechanical Properties During Long-term Material Degradation of Austenitic 316L Steel)

  • In this study, we investigate the variation in microstruture and mechanical property of austenitic 316L stainless steel during long-term material degradation. To simulate the material degradation, the AISI 316 steel was exposed to accelerate under a temperature of 600℃ for up to 10000 hours at each predetermined heat treatment time. As the long-term material degradation time increase, the grain shape was changed from polygonal grains with annealing twins to circular grains. Most twins distributed uniformly interior of grains are recovered and disappered with long-term material degradation. Also, the δ ferrite along grain boundaries decomposed and transformed into the σ phase resulting in decrease of elongation of austenitic 316L stainless steel.

  • In the case of surface cracked plate specimen, we can not measure the fracture toughness of ductile materials by the ASTM E 813 standard method. In this report, using the Acoustic Emission method, we found out crack initiation point and investigated fracture toughness which was calculated by FEM. The method used in this paper shows that fracture toughnes by using AE technique is reliable.

Reciprocating Wear Test of AISI 52100 Bearing Steel in h-BN-based Aqueous Lubricants

  • In this study, reciprocating wear tests are performed on AISI 52100 bearing steel to investigate its tribological behavior in a hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) water solution. The h-BN-based aqueous lubricant is prepared using an atoxic procedure called ultrasonic sonication in pure water. Ball-on-flat reciprocating sliding experiments are conducted, where the ball is slewed on a fixed flat at 50-㎛ displacement. The lubricating behavior of h-BN is compared with that of deionized (DI) water. Results show that the friction coefficient is higher in h-BN testing than that in DI tests, but the results are equalized as the friction coefficient reaches a stable level. Scanning electron microscopic images reveal significant material loss in the center and mild abrasion on the edge of the wear scar in h-BN tests. However, these effects are minor in DI water situations. The results of energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy show that considerable oxidation occurs in the central zone of the wear scar in h-BN cases with strong adhesion and material removal. These findings reveal the importance of determining ideal circumstances that can tolerate material friction and wear.

부식액의 조건 및 주사 속도가 AISI 304 스테인리스강의 전기화학적 부식에 미치는 영향 (Effect of the Corrosive Solution Conditions and Scan Rate to the Electrochemical Corrosion on the AISI 304 Stainless Steel)

  • The effect of concentration of each solution( HCI, $H_2SO_4$ and $HNO_3$), scan rate and polished surface condition on the corrosion of AISI 304 Stainless Steel were investigated, utilizing the Method ASTM G5 - 87. It can be concluded that: 1) For the same concentration(i.e. 1N) of each solution the corrosion rate is the highest in HCI and lowest in $HNO_3$. Also, the difference of values of $i_{cirt}$ generated for each solution is significant. 2) As the concentration of the solution $H_2SO_4$ is increased (O.5N, 1N, 2N) the values of $E_{cor}$ $i_{crit}$ and $i_{p}$ are increased. 3) In case of existence of SCN ion of O.OlN, the values of iCTIt and ip generated are approximately 100 times and 1.4 times higher respectively, than in the case of non - existence of $SCN^{-}$. However the existence of $SCN^{-}$ doesn't affect the value of $E_{cor}$ and $E_{p}$. 4) The values of $i_{crit}$ and $i_{p}$ are increased due to the increase of scan rate. But the values of $E_{cor}$ and $E_{p}$ do not depend on the scan rate. 5) The $i_{p}$ value depends greatly on oxygen in the solution, but the changes in values of $E_{cor}$ $i_{crit}$ and $E_{b}$ due to the oxygen are insignificant. 6) If a component is polished using #400, #600 and #800 wet polish paper, the effect of surface condition on variations of values of $i_{crit}$ and $i_{p}$ is slightly significant.
