  • An indoor environmental monitoring system using IEEE 802.15.4 based wireless sensor network is proposed to monitor the amount of pollutant entering to the room from outside and also the amount of pollutant that is generated in indoor by the building materials itself or human activities. Small-size, low-power wireless sensor node and low power electrochemical sensor board is designed to measure the condition of indoor environment in buildings such as home, offices, commercial premises and schools. In this paper, two query models, the broadcasting query protocol and flooding query protocol, were designed and programmed as a query-based routing protocol in wireless sensor network for an environment monitoring system. The flooding query routing protocol in environment monitoring is very effective as a power saving routing protocol and reliable data transmission between sensor nodes.

  • A numerical study was carried out to investigate the 'unstart' process of thermally-choked combustion in model scramjet engines. The combustion mechanism of supersonic combustor will be compared with the experimental results obtained from the T3 free-piston shock tunnel at ANU (Australian National University) and the high enthalpy supersonic wind tunnel at UT (University of Tokyo). For the numerical simulation of supersonic combustion. multi-species Navier-Stokes equations were considered. and detailed chemistry reaction mechanism of $H_2$-Air were adopted. The governing equations were solved by Roe's FDS method and LU-SGS method with MUSCL scheme. In this study. it is found that the thermal choking process could result from excessive heat release due to combustion. In detail, sufficient heat release could be generated at local region of very high temperature increased by reflection of shock waves or vortex sheets. Accordingly the flow of downstream of the combustor fell to subsonic field propagated upstream along the combustor. Sometimes the subsonic flow field propagated into isolator could generate precombustion shock waves in the isolator.

  • Turbulent flow characteristics and heat transfer in a three-dimensional room with a desk-type heat generating obstacle have been investigated numerically by the k-$\varepsilon$ two equation turbulence model. The room mole has one supply opening on the ceiling and two exhaust openings on the side walls. Th results of the flow structure and heat transfer have been represented for air for the inlet velocities in the range 0.1-10.0m/s. As the results of the three dimensional simulations, the relationships between mean Nusselt number and Reynolds number are clarified.

  • A prediction performance of Fire Dynamics Simulator(FDS) developed by NIST for the diffusion flame structure was validated with experimental results of a laminar slot jet diffusion flame. Two mixture fraction combustion models and two finite chemistry combustion models were used in the FDS simulation for the validation of the jet diffusion flame structure. In order to enhance the prediction performance of flame structure, DNS and radiation model was applied to the simulation. The reaction rates of the finite chemistry combustion models were appropriately adjusted to the diffusion flame. The mixture fraction combustion model predicted the diffusion flame structure reasonably. A 1-step finite chemistry combustion model cannot predict the flame structure well, but the simulation results of a 2-step model were in good agreement with those of experiment except $CO_2$ concentration. It was identified that the 2-step model can be used in the investigation of flame suppression limit with further adjustment of reaction rates

  • In this study we investigated changes in the Tsushima Warm Current (TWC) under the global warming scenario RCP 4.5 by analysing the results from the World Climate Research Program's (WCRP) Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5). Among the four models that had been employed to analyse the Tsushima Warm Current during the 20th Century, in the CSIRO-Mk3.6.0 and HadGEM2-CC models the transports of the Tsushima Warm Current were 2.8 Sv and 2.1 Sv, respectively, and comparable to observed transport, which is between 2.4 and 2.77 Sv. In the other two models the transports were much greater or smaller than the observed estimates. Using the two models that properly reproduced the transport of the Tsushima Warm Current we investigated the response of the current under the global warming scenario. In both models the volume transports and the temperature were greater in the future climate scenario. Warm advection into the East Sea was intensified to raise the temperature and consequently the heat loss to the air.

  • Acetanilide is a High Production Volume Chemical, which is produced about 2,300 tons/year in Korea as of 1998 survey. Most is used as an intermediate for synthesis of pharmaceuticals and dyes and the chemical is one of seven chemicals of which human and environmental risks are being assessed by National Institute of Environmental Research under the frame of OECD SIDS program. The chemical is water soluble (4 g/1 at 20$\^{C}$) and readily biodegradable (68.7%). Partition coefficiency (Log Pow) is 1.16 at 23$\^{C}$ so that the chemical has a low potential for bioaccumulation. The acute toxicities of algae, daphnia and fish are not high. The 72 hr-EbC50 of algae is 13.5 mg/1,48 hr-EC50 of daphnia is over 100 mg/1 and 96 hr-LC50 of Oryzias latipes is over 100mg/1. Regarding the exposure, levels in air, water, soil or sediment have not been monitored or estimated so that risk evaluation of acetanilide was not possible. In this study, distribution of the chemical among environmental media was estimated using EQC model based on the chemical-physical properties. In Level I and IIof which the chemical are hypothesized in equilibrium and no transfer through the media, more than 98% of acetanilide are estimated to be distributed in water. However, in Level Ⅲ of which non-equilibrium and intermedia transfer could be occurred, the chemical is estimated to distributed to soil as 51.8% and water as 47.8% as of total amount.

  • To achieve efficient supersonic combustion within a manageable length, a successful fuel injection scheme must provide rapid mixing between fuel and airstream. In former days, various injection concepts have been investigated. Cavity flow is the open type, that is, length-to-depth ratio L/D=4.8, aft ramp angle is $22.5^{\circ}$. An experimental study on a transverse cross jet injection into a Mach 1.92 supersonic main stream which flows over a cavity was carried out to investigate the effect of the momentum flux ratio(J), the jet interaction characteristics, and the pressure distribution in the combustor and using the primary diagnostics : schlieren visualization and wall static pressure measurements. Fuel penetration height and jet interaction characteristics depend strongly on the momentum flux ratio.

  • This paper presents a numerical investigation of the deflagration to detonation transition (DDT) of flame acceleration by a shock wave filled with an ethylene-air mixture in bent tube. A model consisting of the reactive compressible Navier-Stokes equations and the ghost fluid method (GFM) for complex boundary treatment is used. A various intensities of incident shock wave simulations show the generation of hot spots by shock-flame interaction and the accelerated flame propagation due to geometrical effect. Also the first detonation occurs nearly constant chemical heat release rate, 20 MJ/($g{\cdot}s$). Through our simulation's results, we concentrate the complex confinement effects in generating strong shock wave, shock-flame interaction, hot spot and DDT in pipe.

  • We have investigated biosorption kinetics and equilibrium of $Pb^2+$ and $Cr^2+$ using waste sludge, and separation efficiency of waste sludge by dissolved air flotation was evaluated in the various A/S ratio. The biosorption capacity and contact time were shown as a simulation of biosorption equilibrium and kinetics models. Biosorption equilibrium of the $Pb^2+$ and $Cr^2+$ onto the waste sludge could be fitted by the Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson, and Koble-Corrigan equation. The kinetics could be fitted by a pseudo-second-order rate equation more than a pseudo-first-order rate equation. The separation efficiency of waste sludge using DAF was kept above 90%.

  • The self diffusion, hole volume, and flow thermodynamic parameters of polyamide fibers were calculated from rheological parameters and crystallite size in order to study of flow segments in amorphous region. The stress relaxation of polyamide filament fibers were carried out in air and various solvents at various temperatures using the tensile tester with the solvent chamber. The rheological parameters were obtained by applying the experimental stress relaxation curves to the theoretical equation of the Ree-Eyring and Maxwell non-Newtonian model. It was observed that the rheological parameters of these polyamide filament fibers are directly related to the relaxation spectra, self diffusion, viscosities, and activation energies of flow segments.
