AI technology is a central focus of the 4th Industrial Revolution. However, compared to some existing non-artificial intelligence technologies, new AI adversarial attacks have become possible in learning data management, input data management, and other areas. These attacks, which exploit weaknesses in AI encryption technology, are not only emerging as social issues but are also expected to have a significant negative impact on existing IT and convergence industries. This paper examines various cases of AI adversarial attacks developed recently, categorizes them into five groups, and provides a foundational document for developing security guidelines to verify their safety. The findings of this study confirm AI adversarial attacks that can be applied to various types of cryptographic modules (such as hardware cryptographic modules, software cryptographic modules, firmware cryptographic modules, hybrid software cryptographic modules, hybrid firmware cryptographic modules, etc.) incorporating AI technology. The aim is to offer a foundational document for the development of standardized protocols, believed to play a crucial role in rejuvenating the information security industry in the future.

Today, AI(Artificial Intelligence) technology is being extensively researched in various fields, including the field of malware detection. To introduce AI systems into roles that protect important decisions and resources, it must be a reliable AI model. AI model that dependent on training dataset should be verified to be robust against new attacks. Rather than generating new malware detection, attackers find malware detection that succeed in attacking by mass-producing strains of previously detected malware detection. Most of the attacks, such as adversarial attacks, that lead to misclassification of AI models, are made by slightly modifying past attacks. Robust models that can be defended against these variants is needed, and the Robustness level of the model cannot be evaluated with accuracy and recall, which are widely used as AI evaluation indicators. In this paper, we experiment a framework to evaluate robustness level by generating an adversarial sample based on one of the adversarial attacks, C&W attack, and to improve robustness level through adversarial training. Through experiments based on malware dataset in this study, the limitations and possibilities of the proposed method in the field of malware detection were confirmed.

Today, as AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology is introduced in various fields, including security, the development of technology is accelerating. However, with the development of AI technology, attack techniques that cleverly bypass malicious behavior detection are also developing. In the classification process of AI models, an Adversarial attack has emerged that induces misclassification and a decrease in reliability through fine adjustment of input values. The attacks that will appear in the future are not new attacks created by an attacker but rather a method of avoiding the detection system by slightly modifying existing attacks, such as Adversarial attacks. Developing a robust model that can respond to these malware variants is necessary. In this paper, we propose two methods of generating Adversarial attacks as efficient Adversarial attack generation techniques for improving Robustness in AI models. The proposed technique is the XAI-based attack technique using the XAI technique and the Reference based attack through the model's decision boundary search. After that, a classification model was constructed through a malicious code dataset to compare performance with the PGD attack, one of the existing Adversarial attacks. In terms of generation speed, XAI-based attack, and reference-based attack take 0.35 seconds and 0.47 seconds, respectively, compared to the existing PGD attack, which takes 20 minutes, showing a very high speed, especially in the case of reference-based attack, 97.7%, which is higher than the existing PGD attack's generation rate of 75.5%. Therefore, the proposed technique enables more efficient Adversarial attacks and is expected to contribute to research to build a robust AI model in the future.

Adversarial attacks on artificial intelligence (AI) systems use adversarial examples to achieve the attack objective. Adversarial examples consist of slightly changed test data, causing AI systems to make false decisions on these examples. When used as a tool for attacking AI systems, this can lead to disastrous results. In this paper, we propose an ensemble of degraded convolutional neural network (CNN) modules, which is more robust to adversarial attacks than conventional CNNs. Each module is trained on degraded images. During testing, images are degraded using various degradation methods, and a final decision is made utilizing a one-hot encoding vector that is obtained by summing up all the output vectors of the modules. Experimental results show that the proposed ensemble network is more resilient to adversarial attacks than conventional networks, while the accuracies for normal images are similar.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the widespread adoption of contactless transactions, resulting in a noticeable increase in the trend towards fully unmanned stores. In such stores, all operational processes are automated, primarily using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. However, this AI technology has several security vulnerabilities, which can be critical in the environment of fully unmanned stores. This paper analyzes the security vulnerabilities that AI-based fully unmanned stores may face, focusing particularly on the object detection model YOLO, demonstrating that Hiding Attacks and Altering Attacks using adversarial patches are possible. It is confirmed that objects with adversarial patches attached may not be recognized by the detection model or may be incorrectly recognized as other objects. Furthermore, the paper analyzes how Data Augmentation techniques can mitigate security threats by providing a defensive effect against adversarial patch attacks. Based on these results, we emphasize the need for proactive research into defensive measures to address the inherent security threats in AI technology used in fully unmanned stores.

With the rapid evolution of the Internet, the application of artificial intelligence fields is more and more extensive, and the era of AI has come. At the same time, adversarial attacks in the AI field are also frequent. Therefore, the research into adversarial attack security is extremely urgent. An increasing number of researchers are working in this field. We provide a comprehensive review of the theories and methods that enable researchers to enter the field of adversarial attack. This article is according to the "Why? → What? → How?" research line for elaboration. Firstly, we explain the significance of adversarial attack. Then, we introduce the concepts, types, and hazards of adversarial attack. Finally, we review the typical attack algorithms and defense techniques in each application area. Facing the increasingly complex neural network model, this paper focuses on the fields of image, text, and malicious code and focuses on the adversarial attack classifications and methods of these three data types, so that researchers can quickly find their own type of study. At the end of this review, we also raised some discussions and open issues and compared them with other similar reviews.

Adversarial training improves the robustness of deep neural networks for adversarial examples. However, the previous adversarial training method focuses only on the adversarial loss function, ignoring that even a small perturbation of the input layer causes a significant change in the hidden layer features. Consequently, the accuracy of a defended model is reduced for various untrained situations such as clean samples or other attack techniques. Therefore, an architectural perspective is necessary to improve feature representation power to solve this problem. In this paper, we apply an attention module that generates an attention map of an input image to a general model and performs PGD adversarial training upon the augmented model. In our experiments on the CIFAR-10 dataset, the attention augmented model showed higher accuracy than the general model regardless of the network structure. In particular, the robust accuracy of our approach was consistently higher for various attacks such as PGD, FGSM, and BIM and more powerful adversaries. By visualizing the attention map, we further confirmed that the attention module extracts features of the correct class even for adversarial examples.

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has led to its proactive utilization across various fields. However, this widespread adoption of AI-based systems has raised concerns about the increasing threat of attacks on these systems. In particular, deep neural networks, commonly used in deep learning, have been found vulnerable to adversarial attacks that intentionally manipulate input data to induce model errors. In this study, we propose a method to protect image classification models from visually imperceptible One-Pixel attacks, where only a single pixel is altered in an image. The proposed defense technique utilizes an autoencoder model to remove potential threat elements from input images before forwarding them to the classification model. Experimental results, using the CIFAR-10 dataset, demonstrate that the autoencoder-based defense approach significantly improves the robustness of pretrained image classification models against One-Pixel attacks, with an average defense rate enhancement of 81.2%, all without the need for modifications to the existing models.

Through the Ukraine-Russia war, the military importance of drones is being reassessed, and North Korea has completed actual verification through a drone provocation towards South Korea at 2022. Furthermore, North Korea is actively integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technology into drones, highlighting the increasing threat posed by drones. In response, the Republic of Korea military has established Drone Operations Command(DOC) and implemented various drone defense systems. However, there is a concern that the efforts to enhance capabilities are disproportionately focused on striking systems, making it challenging to effectively counter swarm drone attacks. Particularly, Air Force bases located adjacent to urban areas face significant limitations in the use of traditional air defense weapons due to concerns about civilian casualties. Therefore, this study proposes a new passive air defense method that aims at disrupting the object detection capabilities of AI models to enhance the survivability of friendly aircraft against the threat posed by AI based swarm drones. Using laser-based adversarial examples, the study seeks to degrade the recognition accuracy of object recognition AI installed on enemy drones. Experimental results using synthetic images and precision-reduced models confirmed that the proposed method decreased the recognition accuracy of object recognition AI, which was initially approximately 95%, to around 0-15% after the application of the proposed method, thereby validating the effectiveness of the proposed method.
