  • Modem automated manufacturing processes employ automated guided vehicles(AGVs) for material handling, which serve several machining centers(MCs) in a factory. Optimal scheduling of AGVs can significantly help to increase the efficiency of the manufacturing process by minimizing the idle time of MCs waiting for the raw materials. In this paper, we will analyse the requirements for an optimal schedule and then provide a mathematical framework for an efficient schedule of material delivery by an AGV. With this model, the optimal number of MCs to be utilized will also be determined. Finally, the material delivery schedule employing multiple journeys to the MCs by the AGV will be carried out. Through rigorous analysis and simulation experiments, we shall show that such a delivery strategy will optimize the overall performance.

  • A fuzzy dispatching algorithm with adaptable control scheme is proposed for more flexible and adaptable operation of AGV system. The basic idea of the algorithm is prioritization of all move requests based on the fuzzy urgency. The fuzzy urgency is measured by the fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making method, utilizing the relevant information such as incoming and outgoing buffer status, elapsed time of move request, and AGV traveling distance. At every dispatching decision point, the algorithm prioritizes all move requests based on the fuzzy urgency. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with several dispatching algorithms in terms of system throughput in a hypothetical job shop environment. Simulation experiments are carried out varying the level of criticality ratio of AGVs , the numbers of AGVs, and the buffer capacities. The rule presented in this study appears to be more effective for dispatching AGVs than the other rules.

  • Facilities are getting more automated and informative in modern manufacturing systems, especially in semiconductor and LCD plants. These systems keep a great deal of such information on its current and near-future status as the arrival time and job completion time of their parts. This paper presents an efficient policy for AGV and part routing using information on the future status of the system where AGVs are playing a central role for material handling. Efficient control of AGVs is very important because AGV systems often become the bottleneck and limit the total production capacity of a very expensive plant. The cell controller records the future events chronologically in Next Event Schedule, and uses this list to determine to which place the AGVs and parts to be sent.

  • It is essential to construct an efficient material flow system for the successful introduction of automated manufacturing systems. Automated Guided Vehicle System (AGVS) plays a significant role more and more in modern manufacturing environments, because of the flexibility and the precision they offer. However, as the size and the complexity of systems increase, the problems of dispatching, routing and scheduling of AGVs become complicated due to their independent and asynchronous demands. In this paper, we review relevant papers, and provide a new and more efficient method for dispatching AGV, named MEVTT (Minimum Empty Vehicle Travel Time) and demonstrate its performance and efficiency using simulation.

  • This paper addresses the processing route of parts and economic design in flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) employing AGVs for Transport. Parts are processed through several workstations according to operation sequences. The machine of each workstation can do multiple operation functions. The operation stage of a part can be processed in several workstations, which are non-identical in functional performance. The objective of this paper is to determine the processing route of parts, number of machines at each workstation, number of vehicles. The model is assumed that the operation stage of parts can be processed at the only one among several available workstations. Parts are transported by automated guided vehicle system(AGVS). The decision criteria is to minimize the sum of processing cost, travel cost, operating cost. A model formulation is represented. A solution algorithm is suggested by using mathematical programming and simulation technique, and a numerical example is shown.

AGV 유도경로 설계에 관한 연구 (Guide-Path Design for Automated Guided Vehicles)

  • AGVS(Automated Guided Vehicle Systems) in material handling have been used widely since late 1970s. Implementation of an AGVS generally requires substantial study to optimize the design and performance of guide-paths. Traditional mathematical approaches have been used with limited success to analyze AGVS. These approaches, however, do not provide a practical tool for guide-path designers. This paper presents a new approach based on rules in designing and assessing AGV guide-paths to improve the design of a closed-loop layout. A framework for the integrated approach is proposed, problem solving procedures are explained, and a case study is reported to demonstrate the framework. Deletion of seldom used guide-paths, and addition of bypasses to solve the congestion problem, are conducted interactively and iteratively through simulation experiments. To visualize the results, a graphic control program is developed and integrated with the AutoMod/AutoGram simulation package.

  • In recent years, AGVs(Automated Guided Vehicles) have received growing attention as a subsystem of the integrated container operating system which enables unmanned control. improvement of job reliability, accuracy and productivity. Therefore, a number of works have been done to enhance the performance AGVs. In this paper. job deployment and a dynamic routing control system composed of supervisor, traffic controller. motion controller and routing table are discussed. A simple job deployment scheme and an efficient dynamic routing algorithm incorporating with the deadlock prediction and avoidance algorithm are investigated.

  • 자동화 컨테이너 터미널의 생산성을 향상시키기 위해서는 장치장과 선석 사이를 오가며 컨테이너를 운반하는 무인 유도 차량(Automated Guided Vehicle; AGV)을 효율적으로 운영하여야 한다. 터미널에서 사용되는 AGV는 고정된 경로를 따르지 않고 자유롭게 주행할 수 있다. 이러한 특성을 가진 AGV들을 효율적으로 운영하기 위해서는 복잡하고 정교한 AGV교통 통제 시스템이 요구된다. AGV 주행 경로를 유연하게 설정하면 AGV가 주행하는 거리는 짧아지지만, AGV간의 충돌과 교착을 야기하는 경로간의 겹침과 교차 횟수는 늘어나게 된다. 따라서 모든 AGV의 경로를 사전에 세밀하게 분석하여 완벽하게 교착을 회피하는 방안은 계산 비용 측면에서 실시간에 적용하기가 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 빈번히 발생하는 두 AGV간의 충돌과 교착은 사전에 예측하여 회피하고, 셋 이상의 AGV간의 교착은 발생 후에 이를 감지하여 해결하는 방안을 제안한다. 본 제안 방안은 계산 비용이 적어 실시간 적용이 용이하다. 시뮬레이션을 통해 본 제안 방안의 효율성과 효용성을 검증하였다.

  • AGVS (Automated Guided Vehicle System)는 작업 공간 내 특정 물건 또는 상품들을 자동으로 이동 시켜주는 물류 자동화의 핵심 기술이다. 기존의 AGV는 독립적인 실내위치인식 기술과 함께 각 AGV별로 주행경로 인식을 위해 레이저, 마그네틱, 관성 센서 등을 이용하기 때문에 고비용이며 유지 및 확장이 어렵다는 단점을 가지고 있다. 이러한 단점을 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 라인스캐카메라 기반의 마이크로 컨트롤러에서도 구현 가능한 경량화 된 패턴인식 기술을 이용하여 AGV의 주행제어뿐 아니라 위치인식을 동시에 할 수 있는 기술을 제안한다. 제안된 패턴인식기술은 각 AGV가 라인으로 표시된 경로를 인식하여 자율주행을 가능하게 할 뿐 아니라 경로 상에 바코드 형태의 간단한 이미지 형태로 설치된 패턴인식을 통해 AGV자신의 위치를 파악하는 기술을 동시에 제공하기 때문에 AGVS 구현 비용을 획기적으로 줄일 수 있을 뿐 아니라 경로 재설정 및 확장에 유리하다. 제안된 기술의 효용성 검증을 위해 마이크로 컨트롤러에서 동작 가능한 패턴인식기술을 구현하였고, AGV 프로토타입을 이용한 실험으로 그 결과 및 효용성을 검증하였다.

Multi-load AGV를 사용하는 Tandem AGV System 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on Design of a Tandem AGV System with Multi-Load AGVs)

  • Tandem AGV system is obtained by partitioning all workstations into multiple zones assigning a single vehicle to each zone. In this paper, we propose an analytical model to design a tandem AGV system with multi-load AGVs. Using simulation, the performance of the proposed model is shown by comparing a conventional multi-load AGV system.
