Recently the theory of the multiple Gamma functions, which were studied by Barnes and others a century ago, has been revived in the study of determinants of Laplacians. Here we are aiming at evaluating the values of the multiple Gamma functions ${\Gamma}_n(\frac{1}{2})$ in terms of the Hurwitz or Riemann Zeta functions.

The 3-dimensional PPNG(Pure proportional navigation guidance) law was proposed about forty years ago, but the satisfactory analysis of its performance has not been presented since then. In this note, we prove under some reasonable assumptions that the missile guided according to this 3-dimensional PPNG law can always intercept a randomly maneuvering target if (1) the target acceleration varies with a certain bound, (2) the navigation constant is selected large and (3) the initial heading error is small. We introduce a Lyapunov-like method that proves to be a very powerful tool in obtaining our results.

A 72-year-old women whose symptom was severe dysphagia and x-ray film revealed esophageal stricture and dilatation. She had attempted suicide by swallowing lye liquids 50 years ago. A conclusive clinical and histological diagnosis of esophageal carcinoma after corrosive stricture was made following a esophagectomy with esophagogastrostomy, I experienced one case of esophageal carcinoma after corrosive stricture and reviewed it with references.

People in any part of the world can not enjoy a really rich living or a bright frame of mind without wearing silk. This means the silk is only silk. Mystery of silk and mysterious quality of silk come from the fact that it is a protein fiber produced by the living insect, namely, the silkworm. (omitted)

Pulmonary lymphangiomyomatosis is rare but extremely interesting condition caused by progressive widespread smooth muscle proliferation in the perilymphatic regions throughout the lungs. The patient was a 25-year-old female. She had angiofibromas in the face, and angiomyolipoma in the left kidney which was removed 5 years earlier. Three years ago she started having severe dyspnea with bilateral pneumothoraces. Treatment was initiated with bilateral closed thoracotomies followed by open thoracotomy through median sternotomy and lung biopsy, which revealed the diagnosis of pulmonary lymphangiomyomatosis. Recurrence of pneumothorax was treated by repeated chemical pleurodesis with tetracycline. She has been in good condition during medroxyprogesterone administration for 3 years.

Airway obstruction may be caused by extreme mediastinal shift and rotation after right pneumonecotmy or after left pneumonecotomy in the presence of right aortic arch.We experienced such a complication after right pneumonectomy, so called right postpneumonectomy syndrome. The patient was 28 years old female, and 4 month ago she had undergone right pneumonecotomy via video assisted thoracoscopic surgery[VATS] for endobronchial tuberculus dissemination and secondary pulmonary infection. She was treated by mediastinal repositioning which were composed of substernal fixation of pericardium and insertion of expandable prosthesis of 1000 cc capacity. She had good postoperative course and now she feels no obstructive symptoms.

This is a case report involving a novel setting of sonographic scan for thickness of superficial abdominal fat and a non-invasive approach for reduction of the fat thickness. A 38-year-old woman complained of her abdominal contour asymmetry after the laser-assisted liposuction performed two years ago. Compression-free sonographic scanning confirmed that her superficial abdominal fat was thicker in left side than that of right side. After 9 sessions of 40KHz therapeutic ultrasound, the contour asymmetry was reduced.

Canada has a rich history in the theory and development of the field of health promotion. Over 25 years ago, in 1974, the Canadian government produced the first government policy document that identified health promotion as a national strategy. The document, which came from the national Health Minister, was entitled A New Perspective on the Health of Canadians (Lalonde, 1974). It led the way for other governments to produce similar documents, and to many western countries embracing the ideas and ideals of health promotion.(omitted)

A new digital media ear started a couple of months ago when 10 major cities in USA first boradcasted the all digital HDTV on the air. Digital video compression has been studied for decades but only recently, it becomes practical and is used in our daily life. We give an overview of the progress of video compression in recent years, particularly, the ones related to international standards. Through examples, we like to introduce this fantastic subject to the readers who were not familiar with it before.

Ten years ago most papermakers were convinced that a system needs to be voluminous and heavy for controllability and stability. In order to improve grade changing dynamics, the author of this paper began developing a compact papermachine wet end. The results have proven that compactness is beneficial even more broadly.
