섬유-금속 적층판의 인장 및 압입 하중에서의 손상감지 (Damage Detection of Fiber-Metal Laminates Under Axial and Indentation Load)

  • Optical fiber vibrations sensors (OFVSs) and extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometer (EFPI) were used in damage monitoring of fiber-metal laminates(FML). The optical fiber vibration sensor and EFPI were applied in order to detect and evaluate the strain, damage and failure of FML. Damages in composites, such as matrix cracks, delamination and fiber breakage may occur as a result of excessive load, fatigue and low-velocity impacts. Tensile and indentation test was performed with the measurement of optical signal and acoustic emission (AE). The signals of the optical fiber vibration sensor due to damages were quantitatively evaluated by wavelet transform. It was found that damage information of comparable in quality to acoustic emission data could be obtained from the optical fiber vibration sensor signals.

  • 음향방출 신호를 이용하여 목재 섬유판(fiberboards)의 위치표정의 유용성 유무를 실험적으로 검증하였다 위치표정의 정확도를 향상하기 위해 신호처리 방법중의 하나인 웨이블릿 변환 디노이징 기법을 활용하여 저주파수인 대칭모드(굽힘파)를 활용하고, 고주파수인 비대칭모드(팽창파)를 제거하여 신호를 재구성함으로써 섬유관의 위치표정시 문턱값 통과방법을 사용할 때 발생하는 도달시간차를 최소화 할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 디노이징 기법을 활용한 섬유판의 위치 표정과 굽힘강도에 대한 사상총수를 기초로 하여 목재 구조물 및 문화재의 건전성을 평가 할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

패턴인식기법을 이용한 공구마멸상태의 분류 (The Classification of Tool Wear States Using Pattern Recognition Technique)

  • Pattern recognition technique using fuzzy c-means algorithm and multilayer perceptron was applied to classify tool wear states in turning. The tool wear states were categorized into the three regions 'Initial', 'Normal', 'Severe' wear. The root mean square(RMS) value of acoustic emission(AE) and current signal was used for the classification of tool wear states. The simulation results showed that a fuzzy c-means algorithm was better than the conventional pattern recognition techniques for classifying ambiguous informations. And normalized RMS signal can provide good results for classifying tool wear. In addition, a fuzzy c-means algorithm(success rate for tool wear classification : 87%) is more efficient than the multilayer perceptron(success rate for tool wear classification : 70%).

Fabrication and AE Characteristics of TiNi/ A16061 Shape Memory Alloy Composite

  • TiNi/ Al6061 shape memory alloy (SMA) composite was fabricated by hot press method to investigate the microstructure and mechanical properties. Interface bonding between TiNi reinforcement and A1 matrix was observed by using SEM and EDS. Pre-strain was imposed to generate compressive residual stress inside composite. A tensile test for specimen, which under-went pre-strain, was performed at high temperature to evaluate the variation of strength and the effect of pre-strain. It was shown that interfacial reactions occurred at the bonding between matrix and fiber, creating two inter-metallic layers. And yield stress increased with the amount of pre-strain. Acoustic Emission technique was also used to nondestructively clarify the microscopic damage behavior at high temperature and the effect of pre-strain of TiNi/ Al6061 SMA composite.

  • High speed milling(HSM) is one of the emerging cutting process having tremendous potential not only in increased metal removal rates but also in improved surface finish, burr free edge, dimensional accuracy and a virtually stress free component after machining. The High efficiency and accuracy in machining of die/mold materials can be obtained in high speed machining, so it is necessary to analytic the mechanism of high speed cutting process : cutting force, acoustic emission signal.

  • Joining Yittria Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) to NiCr metal was fabricated using YSZ/NiCr Functionally Graded Materials (FGM) Interlayer by hot pressing process. Microscopic observations demonstrate that the composition and microstructure of YSZ/NiCr FGM distribute gradually in stepwise way, eliminating the macroscopic ceramic/metal interface such as that in traditional ceramic/metal joint. The thermal characteristics of this YSZ/FGM/NiCr joint were studied by thermal shock testing and therml barrier testing. Thermal shock test was conducted by gas burner rig. Acoustic Emission (AE) monitoring was performed to analyze the microfracture behavior during the thermal shock test. It could be confirmed that FGM was the excellent performance of thermal shock/barrier resistance at above $1000^{\circ}C$.

  • One of the cylindrical reactor vessels in petrochemical plants was examined by acoustic emission method. The vessel was quiet in view of A.E. activity throughout the pressure range $12-44kg.f/cm^{2}.G$. Above the pressure of $44kg.f/cm^2$, some events were appeared lower than 30 counts. In order to verify the events, other Nondestructive testing methods were performed and a surface crack, 10mm in length and 0.8mm in depth, was found on the outside surface of circumferential weld.

  • In the case of surface cracked plate specimen, we can not measure the fracture toughness of ductile materials by the ASTM E 813 standard method. In this report, using the Acoustic Emission method, we found out crack initiation point and investigated fracture toughness which was calculated by FEM. The method used in this paper shows that fracture toughnes by using AE technique is reliable.

AE기법을 이용한 원통형 복합재의 핀 체결부 파괴거동 (Failure Behavior of Pin-jointed Cylindrical Composites Using Acoustic Emission Technique)

  • 본 연구에서는 핀 하중 시험을 통해 탄소섬유/에폭시 복합재의 핀 체결부에 대한 베어링 강도를 조사하고 음향방출법을 적용하여 파괴거동을 조사하였다. 복합재는 필라멘트 와인딩 공법을 적용하여 제작되었으며 적층패턴을 달리한 세 종류의 시편을 적용하였다. Type 1은 스티치가 있는 일방향 섬유시트가 적용된 적층패턴을 가지고 있고, Type 2는 스티치가 제거된 일방향 섬유시트가 적용된 적층패턴을 가지고 있으며, Type 3는 프리프레그가 적용된 적층패턴을 가지고 있다. 연구결과에 따르면 Type 1은 Type 2에 비해 베어링 강도가 3.3% 낮게 나타났으며 Type 3가 가장 높은 베어링 강도를 나타내었다. Type 1과 Type 2는 net-tension 모드 파손이, Type 3는 베어링 모드 파손이 나타났으며 Type 3의 음향방출 에너지는 Type 1과 Type 2의 경우에 비해 높게 나타났다. 이로 미루어 보면 Type 3가 구조적으로 가장 안전함을 알 수 있었다.
