Most wavelength assignment algorithms assume that every node has infinite ADMs and I/O blocking is excluded. Furthermore wavelengths continue to occur intermittently in the network using existing algorithms. This can result in increased link blocking under dynamic traffic circumstances. In audition, it can create time-complexity problems such as O(W $N^3$) in the worst case scenario. In this paper, we propose a new wavelength assignment algorithm which has time-complexity of O(W $N^2$) and considers both I/O and link blocking. The basic idea is to maximize the number of links where wavelengths will be assigned continuously after present assignment. As a result, the number of intermittent wavelengths is minimized, and blocking probabilities are decreased.

A new numerical weather prediction and dispersion model, the Operational Multi-scale Environment model with Grid Adaptivity(OMEGA) including an embedded Atmospheric Dispersion Model(ADM), is introduced as a next generation atmospheric simulation system for real-time hazard predictions, such as severe weather or the transport of hazardous release. OMEGA is based on an unstructured grid that can facilitate a continuously varying horizontal grid resolution ranging from 100 km down to 1 km and a vertical resolution from 20 -30 meters in the boundary layer to 1 km in the free atmosphere. OMEGA is also naturally scale spanning and time. In particular, the unstructured grid cells in the horizontal dimension can increase the local resolution to better capture the topography or important physical features of the atmospheric circulation and cloud dynamics. This means the OMEGA can readily adapt its grid to a stationary surface, terrain features, or dynamic features in an evolving weather pattern. While adaptive numerical techniques have yet to be extensively applied in atmospheric models, the OMEGA model is the first to exploit the adaptive nature of an unstructured gridding technique for atmospheric simulation and real-time hazard prediction. The purpose of this paper is to provide a detailed description of the OMEGA model, the OMEGA system, and a detailed comparison of OMEGA forecast results with observed data.

The gravitational radiation capture between unequal mass black holes without spins is investigated with numerical relativistic simulations, and compared with the Post-Newtonian approximations. The parabolic approximation which assumes that the gravitational radiation from a weakly hyperbolic orbit is the same as that from the parabolic orbit is adopted. Using the radiated energies from the parabolic orbit simulations, we have obtained the impact parameters (b) of the gravitational radiation captures for weakly hyperbolic orbits with respect to the initial energy. The most energetic encounters occur around the boundary between the direct merging and the fly-by orbits, and we find that several percent of the total ADM initial energy can be emitted at the peak. The equal mass BHs emit more energies than unequal mass BHs at the same initial orbital angular momentum in the case of the fly-by orbits. The impact parameters obtained with numerical relativity deviate from those in Post-Newtonian when the encounter is very strong ($b{\leq}100M$), and the deviations are more conspicuous at the high mass ratio.
Decorative property of chromium deposition from oxalic acid bath containing chromium oxide and ammonium sulfate, has been examined over a wide range of bath compositions and plating conditions. The followings were determined as optimum bath composition, $CrO_3\;200{\sim}250g/{\ell},\;H_2C_2O_4{\cdot}2H_2O\;500{\sim}700g/{\ell},\;(NH_4){_2}SO_4\;40{\sim}120g/{\ell}$, and operation conditions; pH $2.0{\sim}2.5$, current density of $15{\sim}250Adm^2 $ at the bath temperatures of $30{\sim}80^{\circ}C$. Bright chromium deposits were obtained over a wide range of ammonium sulfate concentration, bath temperature, and current density. The current efficiency decreased with increasing current density and bath pH, and increased with Increasing bath temperature. The highest current efficiency was obtained in the bath containing $80g/{\ell}$ of ammonium sulfate. Bright chromium deposits were not obtained at conditions of all the highest current efficiencies.
Phenalamides $A_1{\sim}A_3$ were reisolated as cytotoxic substances from culture broth of Myxococcus stipitatus JW111. The producing strain was isolated from the marine sediment collected off the shore of Geomun Island, Korea. The active principles were extracted from cell mass with acetone and successively purified by silica gel column chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, and finally recycling prep. HPLC. These compounds demonstrated significant cytotoxicity against certain human cancer cells, having $IC_50$ values ranging from 0.23 to 0.50 ${\mu}g/ml$. Moreover, they also inhibited the growth of adriamycin-resistant HCT/ADM human cancer cell line as well as its parent sensitive cell line.

Low-rank matrix decomposition has shown its capability in many applications such as image in-painting, de-noising, background reconstruction and defect detection etc. In this paper, we consider the texture background of rail track images and the sparse foreground of the defects to construct a low-rank matrix decomposition model with block sparsity for defect inspection of rail tracks, which jointly minimizes the nuclear norm and the 2-1 norm. Similar to ADM, an alternative method is proposed in this study to solve the optimization problem. After image decomposition, the defect areas in the resulting low-rank image will form dark stripes that horizontally cross the entire image, indicating the preciselocations of the defects. Finally, a two-stage defect extraction method is proposed to locate the defect areas. The experimental results of the two datasets show that our algorithm achieved better performance compared with other methods.
A new series of highly water soluble platinum(II) complexes {Pt(II)[1,3-bis(phenylthio) propane](trans- -1,2-diaminocyclohexane) (PC-1) and Pt(II)[1,3-bis-(phenythio)propane] cis-1,2-diaminocyclohexane(PC-2)} were synthesized, and characterized by their elemental analysis and by various spectroscopic techniques[infrared(IR), 13C-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)]. In vitro antitumor activity of new Pt(II) complexes was tested against P-388 and L-1210 mouse lymphocytic leukemia cell lines, PC-14 / P, PC-14/ADM and PC-14 / CDDP human pulmonary adenocarcinima, DU-145 human prostate carcinoma, HT-1376 human bladder carcinoma, ZR-75-1 human breast carcinoma, MKN-45/P and MKN-45/CDDP human gastric adenocarcinoma cell lines using colorimetric MTT[3-(4,5-dimethyl thiazol-2-yl)-2.5-diphenyltetrazoliumbromide] assay for cell survival and proliferation. PC-1 showed active against L-1210, P-388 leukemia, human lung, stomach, prostate, bladder and breast cancer cell lines, and the antitumor activity of these compounds were comparable or superior to those of PC-2 and displatin. The nephrotoxicities of PC-1 and PC-2 were found quite less than that of cisplatin using MTT and [3H] thymidine uptake in rabbit proximal tubule cells and human kidney cortical cells. Based on these results, this novel platinum (II) complex compound (PC-1) represents a valuable lead in the development of a new anticancer chemotherapeutic agent capable of improving antitumor activity and low nephrotoxicity.

Add-drop filtering effect of a asymmetric fiber-optic coupler ADF(add/drop filter) is analyzed using a new split-step time-domain model. This model is very useful in simulating the devices containing a directional coupler an Bragg gratings, First, a symmetric fiber-optic coupler ADM is analyzed using this model to confirm the accuracy of the new method. Then, an asymmetric fiber-optic coupler ADF is analyzed, and some design parameters for optimal filtering effect is derived.
