An Experimental Study on the Axial Stiffness of the Concrete Filled Circular Steel Tube Columns (콘크리트충전 원형강관 기둥의 축강성에 관한 실험연구)

  • AISC-LRFD, ACI 318 and Korean design specifications for concrete filled circular steel tube columns do not consider the increasing of axial stiffness such as the elastic modulus and the yield strength due to the confinement effect. AISC-LRFD and ACI 318, however, shows different basic philosophy and equations for computing the elastic modulus and the strength of CFT columns. Through this experimental study, 9 circular CFT column specimens were made by varying thickness steel tube and concrete strength, the axial stiffness were compared. The comparison between the design specifications and the test results shows different values on the elastic modulus and yield strength of the CFT columns. Even though, yield strength of the CFT columns are very similar between AISC-LRFD and Korean design specifications.

Deflection Prediction of Concrete Beams Reinforced with Fiber Reinforced Polymer(FRP) Bars (FRP 보강근을 사용한 콘크리트 보의 처짐예측)

  • Concrete beams reinforced with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) bars exhibit large deflection and crack width as compared to concrete beams reinforced steel due to modulus of elasticity of FRP bars. Current design code for prediction and crack width developed in concrete structures reinforced with steel bars may not be used for concrete beams reinforced with FRP bars. Thus a number of researcher have attempted to propose modifications to the ACI 318 empirical equation for estimating the effective moment of inertia of reinforced concrete beams. Others used numerical method to calculate the deflection. The purpose of this paper is to evaluation of methods of ACI 440.1 R-01, ISIS Canada design manual, and others for predicting deflection for glass fiber reinforced polymer reinforced concrete beams.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of slab-beam-column subassemblage in the Ordinary Moment Frame(OMF). For this purpose, 3-story building was designed according to UBC and ACI building code(ACI 318-99) and the subassemblages of in the first story were constructed. The subassemblages were classified into interior and exterior. Each interior and exterior subassemblage is modeled by the 2/3 scale experimental specimens. All the specimens have the transverse beam and the columns on the slab have the lap splice as the typical exterior and interior slab-beam-column subassemblage. The interior subassemblage was tested under the constant axial force, while the exterior subassemblage was tested under the fluctuating axial force. Based on the results of the experiments, the performance of each subassemblage is evaluated and the failure mode is investigated.

An Experimental Study on the Shear Strength of Reinforced High Strength Concrete Beams without Stirrups (스터럽이 없는 고강도 철근콘크리트보의 전단강도 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • 일반적으로 스터럽이 없는 철근콘크리트 보의 전단강도는 콘크리트 압축강도, 주철근비, 전단스팬비 및 보 유효깊이에 좌우된다는 것이 많은 연구를 통하여 밝혀지고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 고강도 콘크리트를 사용한 철근콘크리트 보의 거동 및 전단강도 특성을 분석하기 위하여 주철근비, 전단스팬비 및 보 유효깊이를 변수로 두고 총 22개의 단철근 보 실험체를 제작하여 실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과는 ACI규준식, Zsutty식 및 Bazant & Kim식의 예측값들과 함께 비교, 분석되었는데, ACI 규준식은 주철근비 및 전단스팬비의 효과를 과소평가할 뿐만 아니라 유효깊이가 915mm인 큰 보의 경우 안전측이 아니어서 이에 대한 고려가 필요할 것으로 판단된다. Zsutty식은 주철근비의 효과를 적절하게 평가하는 것으로 나타났으며, Bazant & Kim 식은 유효깊이 증가에 따른 전단강도 감소 경향을 잘 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 다른 연구자들의 실험치와 비교, 분석해본 결과 주철근비 및 전단스팬비의 효과는 콘크리트 압축강도 수준에 따라 큰 변화가 없는 것으로 판단된다.

Shear Strength of R/C Shear Walls with Openings (개구부를 갖는 전단벽의 전단강도)

  • Results of 61 framed reinforced concrete shear walls with openings were reviewed to evaluate the current design provisions for nominal shear strength. Provisions for ACI 318-02 and AIJ Code pertaining to shear design of shear walls evaluated the applicability of shear walls with openings subjected to lateral and vertical loads. Evaluation of test results indicates that the nominal unit shear strength($\Psi$=1.0) calculated using the provisions of ACI and AIJ does not represent the observed shear strength well. Based on the limited database considered in this study, A reasonable lower bound to the shear strength of high-strength concrete shear walls is found to be $1.09\sqrt{f_{cu}}$ kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

  • This paper presents the rapid and accurate algorithm for fault discrimination in transmission lines. When faults occur in transmission lines, fault discrimination is very important. If high impedance faults occur in transmission lines, it cannot be detected by overcurrent relays. The method using current and voltage cannot discriminate high impedance fault. Because of this reason this paper uses voltage and zero sequence current, and the proposed algorithm uses fuzzy logic method. This algorithm uses voltage and zero sequence current per period in case of faults. Single line ground fault and three-phase fault can be detective using voltage. Two-line ground fault and line to line fault and high impedance can be detected using zero sequence current. To prove the performance of the algorithm, it test algorithm with signal obtained from ATPDraw simulation.

  • This is an experimental investigation the shear behavior of reinforced concrete with stirrup of which stress ranges 0.0㎏/㎠ to 7.0㎏/㎠. Five rectangular beams which concrete strengths are 287㎏/㎠ and 380㎏/㎠, a/d=3, and main steel ratio equal to 1.96% was tested. Those were designed to fail in shear. The shear cracking load and failure load were measured and compared with ACI's equation and Zutty's proposed equation. The results are following : ACI equation and Zutty's equation are consertive. As the concrete compressive strength increased, reserved shear strength of beams with minimum web reinforcement decreases. According to increase of web reinforcement , the rate of increases of shear strength is decreased. The failure modes of specimen with minimum web reinforcement are shear compression failure which is reached after diagonal shear cracking.

  • The influence of the interfacial properties on the bond capacity of reinforcing bars to concrete is studied in this paper. In this study, the deterioration of the interfacial bond capacity when top-cast bars or epoxy-coated bars are used is examined. The effect of such variables on bond capacity in reinforced concrete is studied by experiment which use beam-end specimens. The main objective of this study is that comparing the test results and the requirements in ACI 318-89 code. the verification of the factor in ACI code is also presented in this paper. The results of the test show that "top bar effect" is considerably affected by the slump of fresh concrete, so the influence of slump shoud be taken into account for top bar effect factor in code. Test results also shows that the bond-slip curve of the epoxy-caoted bars is similiar to that of the uncoated and bond strength is reduced about 15% and that coating thickness seems to influence the bond strength deterioration.rioration.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the seismic performance of gravity-designed post tensioned (PT) flat plate frames with and without slab bottom reinforcement passing through the column. For the PT flat plate frames, the slab bottom reinforcement is often omitted since the requirement for the slab bottom reinforcement for PT flat plates is not clearly specified in ACI 318-08. This study evaluates the seismic performance of the model frames was evaluated by conducting nonlinear time history analysis. The seismic performance of PT flat plate frames is significantly improved by placing slab bottom reinforcement passing through the column.

  • In this study, the test results on creep properties of high strength concrete are shown compared with various prediction equations about creep. So in order to investigate the creep properties of high strength concrete, the application possibility of prediction equations about creep is studied compared with the equations in ACI-209 and CEB/FIP-90 for concrete produced using Portland cement.
