The effect of size of SiC particles and additive Mg content on the mechanical properties and wear characteristics were investigated for the SiCp/AC8A composites fabricated by pressureless infiltration process. Results showed that the hardness and the bending strength increased with decreasing the size of SiC particle. By increasing the Mg content the hardness of SiCp/AC8A composites increased due to the hard reaction products, however the bending strength decreased by formation of coarse precipitates and high porosity level. The SiCp/AC8A composites exhibited about 6 times higher wear resistance compared with AC8A alloy at high sliding velocity and as increasing the particle size, wear resistance was improved. The major wear mechanical of SiCp/AC8A composites exhibited the abrasive wear at low to high sliding velocity whereas AC8A alloy showed adhesive and melt wear at high sliding velocity.
Two congener species of Grapholita molesta and G. dimorpha have similar host ranges and adult occurrence patterns. In addition, the two species commonly use cis-8-dodecenyl acetate (Z8-12:Ac) and trans-8-dodecenyl acetate (E8-12:Ac) as their major sex pheromone components. The commercial lures made of the two components, therefore, suffer a mixed attraction of these two species. This study was conducted to assess any effect of their known minor sex pheromone components to reduce the mixed attraction. When cis-8-tetradecenyl acetate (Z8-14:Ac) was added to the commercial sex pheromone consisting of Z8-12:Ac/E8-12:Ac = 85/15, the attraction to G. dimorpha was not affected, but its attraction to G. molesta was significantly reduced. However, the addition of either dodecanyl acetate (12:Ac) or tetradedecanyl acetate (14:Ac) did not influence on the attraction of both species to the commercial lure. The addition of E8-14:Ac to 3-component sex pheromone, Z8-12:Ac/E8-12:Ac/Z8-14:Ac = 85/15/10, the attraction to G. dimorpha was rather significantly suppressed. From these results, the 3-component sex pheromone, Z8-12:Ac/E8-12:Ac/Z8-14:Ac = 85/15/10 was suggested as an improved composition of sex pheromone lure for G. dimorpha.
The fabrication Process of $Al_2O_{3p}$/AC8A composites by pressureless infiltration technique and the effects of additive Mg content and volume fraction of particulate reinforcement on mechanical and wear properties were investigated. It was found that the bending strength decreased with increasing volume fraction of $Al_2O_{3p}$ particles. Whereas hardness increased with volume fraction of $Al_2O_{3p}$ particles. The decrement of strength in case of high volume fraction of $Al_2O_{3p}$ particles was attributed to high porosity level. In terms of additive Mg content, $Al_2O_{3p}$/AC8A composites containing around 5~7wt% of additive Mg indicated the highest strength, and hardness values increased with additive Mg contents. Wear resistance of AC8A alloy were improved by reinforcement of $Al_2O_{3p}$ particles especially at high sliding velocity. Wear property of $Al_2O_{3p}$/AC8A composites and AC8A alloy exhibited different aspects. $Al_2O_{3p}$/AC8A composites indicated more wear loss than AC8A alloy at slow velocity region. However a transition point of wear loss was found at middle velocity region which shows the minimum wear loss and wear loss at high velocity region exhibited almost same value as at slow velocity region, whereas wear loss of AC8A alloy almost linearly increased with sliding velocity. It was found that $Al_2O_{3p}$/AC8A composites containing $Al_2O_{3p}$ volume fraction of 20% exhibited abrasive wear surface regardless of sliding velocity and $Al_2O_{3p}$/AC8A composites containing $Al_2O_{3p}$ volume fraction of 40% showed slightly adhesive wear surface at low sliding velocity, and it progressed to severe wear as increasing the sliding velocity.
Autophagy-related protein 8 (Atg8) is an essential component of autophagy formation and encystment of cystforming parasites, and some protozoa, such as, Acanthamoeba, Entamoeba, and Dictyostelium, have been reported to possess a type of Atg8. In this study, an isoform of Atg8 was identified and characterized in Acanthamoeba castellanii (AcAtg8b). AcAtg8b protein was found to encode 132 amino acids and to be longer than AcAtg8 protein, which encoded 117 amino acids. Real-time PCR analysis showed high expression levels of AcAtg8b and AcAtg8 during encystation. Fluorescence microscopy demonstrated that AcAtg8b is involved in the formation of the autophagosomal membrane. Chemically synthesized siRNA against AcAtg8b reduced the encystation efficiency of Acanthamoeba, confirming that AcAtg8b, like AcAtg8, is an essential component of cyst formation in Acanthamoeba. Our findings suggest that Acanthamoeba has doubled the number of Atg8 gene copies to ensure the successful encystation for survival when 1 copy is lost. These 2 types of Atg8 identified in Acanthamoeba provide important information regarding autophagy formation, encystation mechanism, and survival of primitive, cyst-forming protozoan parasites.
This paper reviews AC loss characteristics of high $T_c$ superconductors. The mechanisms of AC loss generation are explained briefly, and AC losses are classified by the magnetic field components which generate them. A couple of analytical formulae of AC losses, which are useful for simple and rough AC loss estimations, are presented. AC loss characteristics of single BSCCO multifilamentary conductors and single YBCO coated conductors are reviewed based on previous experimental and numerical studies. AC loss characteristics of those two types of practical high $T_c$ superconductors are compared with each other.
Metal catalysts such as Fe, Co, Mn, and Pd supported on the activated carbon (AC) were prepared to improve functional groups for the chemical adsorption and catalytic ozonation. Following ascending orders of the phenol decomposition rate, dissolved ozone decomposition ratio and TOC (total organic carbon) removal from experimental results of advanced oxidation process (AOP) were observed: Fe-AC < AC < Co-AC < Mn-AC < Pd-AC. BET analysis results showed that the physical properties of the metal impregnated activated carbon had no effect on the catalytic ozonation, and the catalytic effect was dependent on the kind of impregnated metal. The ratio of the formed concentration of OH radical to that of ozone (RCT) was measured by using the decomposition outcome of p-chlorobenzoic acid, a probe compound that reacts rapidly with OH radical but slowly with ozone. The measured values of RCT were $5.48{\times}10^{-9}$ and $1.47{\times}10^{-8}$ for the ozone alone and activated carbon processes, respectively, and $2.13{\times}10^{-9}$, $1.51{\times}10^{-8}$, $4.77{\times}10^{-8}$, and $5.58{\times}10^{-8}$ for Fe-AC, Co-AC, Mn-AC, and Pd-AC processes, respectively.
Acidovorax citrulli causes bacterial fruit blotch in Cucurbitaceae, including watermelon. Although A. citrulli is a seed-borne pathogen, it can cause diverse symptoms in other plant organs like leaves, stems and fruits. To determine the infection routes of A. citrulli, we examined the virulence of six isolates (Ac0, Ac1, Ac2, Ac4, Ac8, and Ac11) on watermelon using several inoculation methods. Among six isolates, DNA polymorphism reveals that three isolates Ac0, Ac1, and Ac4 belong to Clonal Complex (CC) group II and the others do CC group I. Ac0, Ac4, and Ac8 isolates efficiently infected seeds during germination in soil, and Ac0 and Ac4 also infected the roots of watermelon seedlings wounded prior to inoculation. Infection through leaves was successful only by three isolates belonging to CC group II, and two of these also infected the mature watermelon fruits. Ac2 did not cause the disease in all assays. Interestingly, three putative type III effectors (Aave_2166, Aave_2708, and Aave_3062) with intact forms were only found in CC group II. Overall, our results indicate that A. citrulli can infect watermelons through diverse routes, and the CC grouping of A. citrulli was only correlated with virulence in leaf infection assays.

The SiCp/AC8A composites were fabricated by the pressureless metal infiltration process successfully. The effect of additional Mg, which were mixed with SiC particles to promote interfacial wetting between the reinforcement and matrix alloy, and particle size on the mechanical properties was investigated. By increasing the additional Mg content the hardness of SiCp/AC8A composites was increased due to the hard reaction products, but the bending strength was decreased by the excess reaction of Mg and high porosity level when the additional Mg content is over 7%. The Hardness and bending strength was increased by decreasing the size of SiC particle.

This paper presents a novel robust adaptive AC8B exciter system against synchronous generators for ships. A PID (proportional integral derivative) control framework, which is a part of the AC8B exciter system, is simply composed of nominal and auxiliary control configurations. For selecting these proper parameter values, the former is conventionally chosen based on the experience and knowledge of experts, and the latter is optimally estimated via a neural networks optimization procedure. Additionally, we propose an online parameter learning-based auxiliary control to practically cope with deterioration of control performance owing to uncertainty in electric generator systems. Such a control mechanism ensures the robustness and adaptability of an AC8B exciter to enhance control performance in real-time implementation. We carried out simulation experiments to test the reliability of the proposed robust adaptive AC8B exciter system and prove its superiority through a comparative study in which a conventional PID control-based AC8B exciter system is similarly applied to our simulation experiments under the same simulation scenarios.

The content based on image retrieval makes use of features of information within image such as color, texture and share for Retrieval data. we present a novel approach for improving retrieval accuracy based on DCT Filter-Bank. First, we perform DCT on a given image, and generate a Filter-Bank using the DCT coefficients for each color channel. In this step, DC and the limited number of AC coefficients are used. Next, a feature vector is obtained from the histogram of the quantized DC coefficients. Then, AC coefficients in the Filter-Bank are separated into three main groups indicating horizontal, vertical, and diagonal edge directions, respectively, according to their spatial-frequency properties. Each directional group creates its histogram after employing Otsu binarization technique. Finally, we project each histogram on the horizontal and vertical axes, and generate a feature vector for each group. The computed DC and AC feature vectors bins are concatenated, and it is used in the similarity checking procedure. We experimented using 1,000 databases, and as a result, this approach outperformed the old retrieval method which used color information.
