  • The $\gamma$-ray irradiation and aging effects on electrical characteristics of $^{60}Co$ $\gamma$-ray irradiated ethylene-propylene-diene-terpolymer(EPDM) contained with 1 to 3phr phenolic and quinolinic antioxidants as antirads were investigated. The marked effects of type and amounts of the antioxidant on the volume resistivity and AC breakdown strength of the $\gamma$-ray irradiated EPDM are different. A phenolic antioxidant(IR 1010) contribute to improving the electrical insulation properties on the EPDM better than quinolinic antioxidant(Kumanox RD) during irradiation. In aging the irradiated EPDM specimens contained antioxidants at room temperature in air, it was shown a improvement of insulation properties due to radical scavenging and crosslinking of EPDM aged until 360 days.

  • Treeing inhibitors of barbituric acid derivatives effects on the electrical properties of crosslinked low density polyethylene under radiation environments were investigated. The electrical parameters for tree inception voltage, AC breakdown strength, volume resistivity, capacitance and dissipation factor at 1MHz and thermoluminescence, gel content measurements were discussed as a function of irradiated dosages. From the results, barbituric acid among the treeing inhibitors was shown the best treeing and radiation resistance.

  • Electrical properties of acrylic acid and n-butyl acrylate grafted polyethylene were investicated. Charge accumulation characterist-ics of acrylic acid grafted PE are changed by graft ratio, but it remains not changed in n-butyl acrylate grafted PE. It was also observed that anti-treeing and AC breakdown strength of grafted PE were increased due to the graft ratio. The change of electrical properties of grafted PE were attributed to the polar group introduced by the graft reaction.

  • Dielectric strength of insulators made of epoxy composites rapidly decreases due to ageing to interfaces between the matrix resin and filler particles. The adhesion variation of interfaces caused by moisture absorption also alters electrical properties that are the basic characteristics of insulators, particularly, in out door use. In this paper, electrical properties of epoxy/$SiO_2$ composites were investigated at boiling absorption condition to observe that influence of moisture. The breakdown time of samples were measured under AC 6[kV] applied voltage, and the variation of lifetime was varified by using Weibull distribution function.

  • In the nation, 154kV XLPE cable with an insulation thickness of 23mm have been used for transmission lines. The thickness is designed by old parameters which were determined by Kreuger, Oudin et al. in 1960s. By the way, the manufacturing technology has been developed. Especially in extruding and curing process we are using a triple common extruding head and applying gas-curing process. It allows the quality of XLPE cable improved. The paper evaluates the AC minimum insulation breakdown strength of XLPE power cable using model table. We can verify the uplifted insulation quality. And we expects the cable insulation thickness to be reduced applying the new parameter to the cable insulation design.

  • In this paper, interpenetrating polymer network method was introduced in order to improve withstand voltage properties of epoxy resin. The single network structure specimen(E series), simultaneous interpenetrating polymer network specimen(EM series) and pseudo interpenetrating polymer network(EMP series) specimen were manufactured. In order to investigate influence upon electrical properties, dc, ac, and impulse voltage dielectric strength were measured. As a result, it was confirmed that electrical properties of epoxy composites can be superior as IPN introduced to it bring about firm and high density of inner structure.

  • In this paper, the effect of adhesion properties of semiconductive-insulating interface layer of silicone rubber on electrical properties was investigated. The modifications produced on the silicone surface by oxygen plasma were accessed using ATR-FTIR, contact angle and Surface Roughness Tester. Adhesion was obtained from T-peel tests of semiconductive layer haying different treatment durations. In addition, ac breakdown test was carried out for elucidating the change of electrical property with duration of plasma treatment. From the results, the treatment in the oxygen plasma produced a noticeable increase in surface energy, which can be mainly ascribed to the creation of O-H and C=O. It is observed that adhesion performance was determined by surface energy and roughness level of silicone surface. It is found that at dielectric strength was increased with improving the adhesion between the semiconductive and insulating interface.

  • The effects of aromatic curing agent of MDA contents and post curing conditions on dielectric deterioration characteristics of DGEBA/MDA/SN system were investigated. The dielectric properties were measured by using needle-plane electrode geometry under the commercial AC high electric field application. As the curing agent content increased, the dielectric breakdown strength increased and then decreased slightly. All the trees initiated from the tip of needle electrode and the shape of the tree in this system was a dendrite type.

  • Inverter driven induction motors with high speed switching and advanced PWM techniques are widely used for variable speed applications. Recently, the insulation failures of stator winding have attracted much concern due to high dv/dt of IGBT PWM inverter output. In this paper, the detailed insulation test results of 26 low-voltage induction motors are presented. Six different types of insulation techniques are applied to 26 motors. The insulation characteristics are analyzed with partial discharge, inception voltage, AC current, and dissipation factor tests. Also, breakdown tests by high voltage pulses are performed. From the above test data the effects due to different wires and insulation techniques on the insulation characteristics of low-voltage induction motors are compared and analyzed. The insulation technique to enhance the insulation strength is suggested from the test results.
