Influence of sintering temperature of MgO pellet on the electro-optical characteristics of alternating current plasma display panel (AC-PDP)

  • We have investigated the electro-optical characteristics of AC-PDP with different MgO protective layers, which have been deposited by electron beam evaporation from various sintered pellets with different temperatures. We have measured the secondary electron emission coefficient ($\gamma$) by using the Gamma Focused Ion Beam ($\gamma$-FIB) system, the static margin, and the address delay time. Also, we have investigated photoluminescence (PL) characteristics for understanding the energy levels of MgO pellets and protective layers.

  • We are investigating the effect of particle on electrowetting, and this paper reports the experimental results obtained until now. The experiment was performed for different particle sizes, electrolyte concentration, and AC frequencies. The problem is quite complicated by various factors, such as the existence of surfactant in suspension and sedimentation of particles. We could not draw a concrete conclusion on the effect of particles, and it needs further investigations. We also report interesting phenomena observed during the experiment. It includes the droplet generation at the edge of a droplet, pseudo-bistability of electrowetting, flow generation inside a droplet, and the chain formation of particles inside a droplet.

  • This paper suggests and demonstrates a novel flow measurement technique, tunable AC mode hotwire anemometry that allows simple integration, robust measurement, and extremely high accuracy. The principle and simple theoretical analysis of the technique are shown. To find the optimal frequency at which the phase lag becomes most sensitive to flow speed change, the phase lag was measured scanning the heating frequency from 1 to 100 Hz, while the flow speed of ethanol was increased stepwise from 0 to 10 mm/s. To optimize the sensitivity of technique, the periodic thermal characteristic of the hotwire should be understood and is currently under study.

The sensitivity of phase lag depended on the heating frequency and the flow speed. It was possible to measure the flow speed of 0.7 mm/s with the resolution of 0.1 mm/s at 4 Hz.

  • The electro-optical characteristics of several functional layers over the MgO protective layer were studied during the continuous discharge of an AC-PDP. In order to observe the degradation of each functional layer on the MgO protection layer, we measured the surface morphology, cathodoluminescence (CL) spectrum, the secondary electron emission coefficient (${\gamma}$) and the discharge characteristics after 500 hours of discharge during the operation of the AC-PDP.

  • We have studied the ac conductivity of insulating $La_{0.7}Sr_{0.3}FeO_3$ in the frequency range 20 Hz-l MHz and in the temperature range 80-300 K. We have analyzed experimental results in the frame works of the quantum-mechanical tunneling mechanism (QMT) and the hopping of barrier mechanism (HOB). We observed that small polaron QMT model is the most suitable mechanism for the low temperature ac conductivity of $La_{0.7}Sr_{0.3}FeO_3$.

  • A MgO layer is used as electrode protective film in the alternating current plasma display panel (AC PDP). The properties of MgO layer are thought to be one of the most important factors that affects the panel reliability through the firing voltage variation. In this study, we investigated the relations between the surface characteristics and e-beam evaporation process parameters such as deposition rate, temperature of substrate and distance between the MgO pellet and substrate. To produce the MgO layer of (200) crystal orientation, we suggest the high temperature of the substrate, the long distance between the pellet and substrate and the high deposition rate.

  • A contact-less power supply system (CPS) allows electrical energy to supply to mobile consumers without any electrical or mechanical contact. CPS works in the same principle as a transformer, with the track litz cable forming the primary circuit and the pickup as the secondary. The track power supply generates the high frequency alternating current in the track cable. The captured AC magnetic field generated by the track conductors produces electrical energy in the pickup coil and the pickup rectifier converts the high frequency AC power to DC while regulating the power to the load. This paper presents the theoretical analysis, simulation and experiment리 results of the series-parallel resonant converter working as contact-less power supply system.

Analysis of Hybrid Converter with Wide Voltage Range Operation

  • A soft switching converter with wide voltage range operation is investigated in this paper. A series resonant converter is implemented to achieve a high circuit efficiency with soft switching characteristics on power switches and rectifier diodes. To improve the weakness of the narrow voltage range in LLC converters, an alternating current (ac) power switch is used on the primary side to select a half-bridge or full-bridge resonant circuit to implement 4:1 voltage range operation. On the secondary-side, another ac power switch is adopted to select a full-wave rectifier or voltage-doubler rectifier to achiever an additional 2:1 output voltage range. Therefore, the proposed resonant converter has the capacity for 8:1 (320V~40V) wide output voltage operation. A single-stage hybrid resonant converter is employed in the study circuit instead of a two-stage dc converter to achiever wide voltage range operation. As a result, the study converter has better converter efficiency. The theoretical analysis and circuit characteristics are verified by experiments with a prototype circuit.
