A laboratory experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of pH, organic matters and anion on the adsorption and degradation of surfactant by different soils; Anmi series (limestone region), Gangseo series (alluvial soil). For this study, Alkyl Benzene Sulfonate (ABS ; Sodium Dodecylbenzenesulfonate) was used as a surfactant. The results were as follows: 1. Adsorption of ABS by soils was correlated positively with the equilibrium concentration of ABS in a soil suspension. (Anmi seris : r=0.9855, Gangseo series : r=0.9931). 2. Adsorption rate of ABS by soils was about 70% of the treated concentration ($600{\mu}g$ ABS/g soil) in a range of pH 4 to pH 5, and about 20% for pH 8. 3. Addition of electrolytes increased ABS adsorption by soils in a soil suspension; the higher concentration, the higher adsorption. But the influence among electrolytes was not significant. 4. Adsorption of ABS by soils was not affected by soil organic matter content in this experiment. 5. Degradation rate of ABS in a soil suspension was about 85% at $30^{\circ}C$, and about 10 to 15% at $10^{\circ}C$. Addition of sewage accelerated the degradation rate regardless of temperature and reached about 85% in a week.
In this study, the color reproduction algorithm considering both of luminace and chromaticity of the background light is presented and tested to BT-H 1450 monitor(Panasonic). In the case of neglecting the background effect, the Macbeth ColorChecker's 24 colors are reproduced with the average color difference ${\Delta}E_{ab}^{*}$ more than 9.0. By using this method, the average color difference ${\Delta}E_{ab}^{*}$ is decreased less than 1.0. From this study, we can find that both of luminance and chromaticity of background light are very important factors in the color reproduction on a CRT display.
In this study, the PPS/ABS blend system was investigated in order to collectively identify the relationship among blend morphology, chemical compatibilization and thermal property. ABS resin was chemically modified by the incorporation of maleic anhydride through reactive extrusion for enhanced compatibilization, and PPS, ABS and the modified ABS were blend by a sing twin screw extruder. The effect of chemical modification of ABS on the morphological, mechanical, and thermal properities of the resulting blend was examined. A strong interaction was observed between PPS and MABS by optical microsopy as well as scanning electron microscopy, exhibiting a well-dispersed morphological feature. The PPS/MABS blend showing a single glass transition temperature was observed in dynamic mechanical analysis, demonstrating a pseudo-homogeneous phase morphology induced by chemical compatibilization. PPS/MABS blend also exhibited an enhanced thermal stability and heat distortion temperature compared with modified PPS/ABS blend.
Attempts were made to define the elements of debates, impact of decisions of the Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-sharing(ABS) of the Conference of the Parties(COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity(CBD) In Korea. Providing policy suggestions to cope with ABS, a cross-cutting issue of the meetings of the COP, was also undertaken. Meetings concerning ABS deal with several key matters such as an international regime, which is a legally binding implementation tool of the Bonn Guidelines, an international certificate of genetic resources' origin/source/legal provenance, and disclosure of origin of genetic resources, compliance measures with prior informed consent of the Contracting Parties providing such resources and with mutually agreed terms on which access was granted. Developing countries, rich in biodiversity and genetic resources, use the CBD as a major tool to maximize their national profits. They demand for national sovereign rights for the genetic resources and indigenous communities providing associated traditional knowledge. At the meetings of the COP, in addition, they requested that developed countries should transfer technologies and provide a financial mechanism for resource conservation to them. On the contrary, the developed countries argue that facilitating access to genetic resources is essential for scientific research and development, and that both Intellectual Property Rights and biotechnology using genetic resources should be protected to maximize their national benefits. Decisions of the COP concerning the Bonn Guidelines and compliance measures with ABS will affect on various socioeconomic fields of Korea, a country which is short of genetic resources. Especially, the importation of genetic resources and land development which might damage genetic resources will be limited seriously. Consequently, overall expenses will increase for the securing genetic resources from the foreign countries and developing biotechnology for conservation and sustainable uses of genetic resources. To minimize the adverse impacts, we endeavor to establish our clear standpoint and to lead the international trends, which are favorable for us. In order to achieve these objectives, government needs i) to proceed researches to lead the international ABS debates actively and to prepare the expected decisions of the future meetings of the COP, ii) to establish a national implementation plan to cope with the ABS and its related decisions, iii) to examine and improve the efficiencies of the national implementation plan with a proper monitoring system, and iv) cope with the other international meetings including the meetings of Trade Related Intellectual Properly Rights and International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture actively.
In this study, hydrogen embrittlement in Inconel 718 fabricated by selective laser melting (SLM) was investigated. To focus on the effect of the SLM-induced solidification substructure, hydrogen embrittlement behavior of SLM as-built (SLM-AB) sample and that of conventionally produced (Con-S) sample were systematically compared. The detailed microstructural characterization showed that the SLM-AB sample exhibited a solidification substructure including a high density of dislocations and Laves phase, while the Con-S sample showed completely recrystallized grains without any substructure. Although the intrinsic strength in the SLM-AB sample was higher than the Con-S sample, the resistance to hydrogen embrittlement was higher in the SLM-AB sample. Nevertheless, a statistical analysis of the hydrogen-assisted cracks (HACs) revealed that the predominant HAC type of SLM-AB and Con-S samples was similar, i.e., intergranular HAC. The difference in the resistance to hydrogen embrittlement between the SLM-AB and Con-S samples were discussed in terms of the relation between the microstructural feature and its effect on hydrogen accumulation.
The thermal degradation of ABS in the presence of iron-based metal catalysts has been studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The reaction of iron-based metal catalysts (ferric nitrate nonahydrate, ammonium ferric sulfate dodecahydrate, iron sulfate hydrate, ammonium ferric oxalate, iron(II) acetate, iron(II) acetylacetonate and ferric chloride) with ABS has been found to occur during the thermal degradation of ABS. In a nitrogen atmosphere, char formation was observed, and at $600^{\circ}C$ approximately 3~23 wt% of the reaction product was non-volatile char. The resulting enhancement of char formation in a nitrogen atmosphere has been primarily due to the catalytic crosslinking effect of iron-based metal catalysts. On the other hand, char formation of ABS in air at high temperature by iron-based metal catalyst was unsuccessful due to the oxidative degradation of the char.
In this study, the PPS/ABS blend system was investigated in order to identify the relationship between the incorporation of compatabilizing moieties and the mechanical properties. ABS resin was chemically modified by the incorporation of maleic anhydride using reactive extrusion method to yield MABS resin, and PPS/MABS blend was prepared by a twin screw extruder. Single glass transition behavior was observed in the various compositions of PPS/MABS blend by dynamic mechanical analysis study. Upon the examination of the mechanical properties, the PPS/MABS blend exhibited an enhanced tensile, flexural and impact strength, which might be due to the better chemical compatibilization to result in the reduced interfacial tension between each components.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of argument-based modeling strategy using scientific writing on student's modeling ability. For this study, 66 students (three classes) from the 7th grade were selected and of these, 43 students (two classes) were assigned to two experimental groups while the other 23 students (one class) were assigned to comparative group. In the experimental groups, one group (22 students) was Argument-based multimodal Representation and Modeling (AbRM), and the other group (21 students) was Argument-based Modeling (AbM). Modeling ability consisted of identifying the problem, structuring of scientific concepts, adequacy of claim and evidence and index of multimodal representation. As for the modeling ability, AbRM group scored significantly higher than the other groups, AbM group was significantly higher than comparative group. The four sub-elements of modeling ability in the AbRM group was significantly higher than the other groups statistically and AbM group scored significantly higher than comparative group. From these results, the argument-based modeling strategy using scientific writing was effective on students' modeling ability. Students organized or expressed the model and evaluated or modified it through the process of argument-based modeling using scientific writing and the exchange of opinions with others by scientific language as argument and writing.
The effect of N-Nitrosodimethylamine(NDMA) on the glycoconjugates of rat lingual salivary gland was examined by prelectin histochemical methods. Sprague-Dawley rats weighing about 250-300g were divided into control and experimental groups. Each rat of experimental groups was administrated NDMA(17mg/kg) orally and sacrificed in 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 hours after NDMA administration. The regional differences and change of glycoco-njugates were elucidated by prelectin histochemical methods, such as periodic acid Schiff's(PAS) reaction, alcian blue (AB) pH 2.5, AB pH 0.4, AB pH 2.5-PAS, aldehyde fuchsin(AF) pH 1.7-AB pH 2.5 and high iron diamine(HID)-AB pH 2.5 staining. The major morphological changes in the von Ebner’s gland of NDMA administrated groups were withering and des-truction of serous acini, diminution and disappearance of cytoplasmic granules and vacuolation in cytoplasm of serous cells, and mucinous changes of duct epithelial cells. These changes were noted in NDMA administrated groups for 12 to 72 hours. In the lingual mucous gland of NDMA administrated groups, the major morphological changes were enlargement, fusion and destruction of mucous acini, loss of cytoplasmic granules and vacuolated generation in cytop-lasm of mucous cells, and mucinous change of duct epithelial cells. These changes were severe in NDMA administra-ted groups for 12 to 72 hours. In NDMA administrated groups of lingual von Ebner's gland for 12 and 72 hours, the neutral glycoconjugates be-come diminished remarkably compared to the control group. The decreased amount of neutral glycoconjugates tended to be gradually recovered from 96 hours group. The acidic glycoconjugates which were not detected in control group were found in a few serous cells of these gland of NDMA administrated groups for 6 to 48 hours and 120 ho-urs. The remarkable decrease of neutral and acidic glycoconjugates was observed in the lingual mucous glands 3, 24 and 48 hours after NDMA administration, and the striking decrease of acidic glycoconjugates was found in 72 hours groups. Among acidic glycoconjugates, sulfated glycoconjugates tended to decrease in NDMA administrated groups for 72 hours, while sialic glycoconjugates were increased in NDMA administrated groups for 3, 12 and 48 hours.
