AASHTO86 접착식 콘크리트 덧씌우기 설계법의 타당성 연구 (Feasibility Study of AASHTO86 Design Method for Bonded Concrete Overlay)

  • PURPOSES : This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of AASHTO86 design method for Bonded Concrete Overlay. METHODS : The Feasibility of AASHTO86 design method for Bonded Concrete Overlay is investigated based on the following study : i) Sensitivity analysis of designed service life of Bonded Concrete Overlay by major design input for AASHTO86 guide. ii) Comparison of actual Bonded Concrete Overlay life and predicted Bonded Concrete Overlay life by AASHTO86. iii) Finding the stress component influence the potential distress of Bonded Concrete Overlay based on 3-d FEM analysis. iv) Exploring the limitation of AASHTO86 in the aspect of design input. RESULTS : Sensitivity analysis showed that the condition of existing pavement significantly on the Bonded Concrete Overlay life. Also the overlay thickness affect the Bonded Concrete Overlay life. The comparison of actual Bonded Concrete Overlay life and predicted Bonded Concrete Overlay life showed relatively good agreement when the early distress sections are excluded in comparison. Bonding stress occurred at the interface may be larger than the bond strength used in the specification of Bonded Concrete Overlay construction. CONCLUSIONS : Bonded Concrete Overlay life predicted by the AASHTO86 may not be reliable. Number of points to improve the reliability in the design of Bonded Concrete Overlay are suggested in this study.

응력의존성 및 탄성계수 감쇠특성을 고려한 노상토의 정규화 해석모델 (Normalized Subgrade Analytical Model Considering Stress-Dependency and Modulus Degradation)

  • 포장재료의 역학적 특성을 대표하는 회복탄성계수는 '86 AASHTO 설계법에서 노상의 기본입력 물성치로 적용한 이후 포장 설계, 해석뿐 아니라 포장 평가, 유지관리 등에도 보편적 개념으로 정착되어 가고 있다. 국내 노상토의 회복탄성계수는 함수비와 건조단위중량으로 대표되는 재료적 요인과 축차응력 및 구속응력에 대단히 큰 영향을 받고 있고, 하중주파수의 영향은 있으나 그 정도가 크지 않고, 하중반복횟수의 영향은 무시 가능한 것으로 알려져 있다(건설교통부 2003). 따라서 국내 포장재료에 따른 회복탄성계수의 적절한 평가는 국내 포장구조체의 역학거동 및 공용성 평가를 위해 매우 중요한 사항이다. 이와 같은 배경으로 본 연구에서는 국내 노상토 재료의 역학적 특성 변화를 포장 단면설계에 합리적으로 반영하기 위한 노상토 해석모델을 제안하였고, 제안된 모델을 적용한 유한요소해석 결과와 시험도로 실측치와의 비교 검증을 통해 제안된 모델의 신뢰성을 검증하였다.

LRFD 기법을 활용한 연성포장 설계방안에 관한 연구 (Application of Load and Resistance Factor Design Format to Designing Flexible Pavements)

  • 도로포장 설계의 목적은 다른 토목구조물의 설계와 마찬가지로 정해진 신뢰성 수준에서 가장 경제적인 설계를 얻는데 있다 할 것이다. 미국과 유럽의 선진국가들의 설계법들은 전혀 상이한 신뢰성 수준을 갖는 설계결과들을 생산하는 설계법을 지양해가면서 세월을 두고 변천하여 균등한 신뢰성 수준을 보장할 수 있는 LRFD양식을 채용하는 방향으로 발전되었다. 현재, LRFD 양식은 콘크리트 구조, 목구조, 강구조 및 교량설계기준에 적용되어 있다 본 논문에서 저자는 역학-경험적 포장설계법에 적용될 신뢰성 모듈의 한 대안으로 신뢰성이론을 사용하여 LRFD 양식을 개발하고자 하는 과정을 예시하였다. AASHTO 86설계법에 따라 동일한 신뢰성 수준을 갖도록 설계된 10개의 포장단면이 피로균열과 같은 역학적 포장손상 측면에서 볼 때 균등한 구조적 신뢰성을 보여주지 못하며 LRFD 양식을 사용함으로서 그러한 균등한 신뢰성을 확보할 수 있다는 사실이 본 논문을 통해 예시되고 있다.

순환골재를 포함한 입상재료의 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Characteristics of Granular Materials Containing Recycled Aggregates)

  • PURPOSES : In Korea, most designs of pavement had been mainly performed by considering CBR of granular materials before KPRP(Korea Pavement Research Program) and 86 AASHTO design method were introduced. Since then, the trend of the pavement designs gradually have moved to using mechanical characteristics throughout the resilient modulus based on the test results up to recently. In this study, we should like to research the mechanical characteristics of paving materials containing Recycled aggregates through the cyclic loading triaxial compression tests. METHODS : The kinds of materials were tested; coarse grained subbase materials, refining aggregates base materials and recycled aggregates. RESULTS : The present study aims to figure out the resilient modulus of paving materials containing Recycled aggregates through the cyclic loading triaxial compression tests. CONCLUSIONS : The test results revealed that the engineering properties of the recycled aggregates were more excellent than the those of others.

재생골재를 함유한 콘크리트의 열팽창계수 측정 (Measurement for Coefficient of Thermal Expansion of Concretes Made with Recycled Concrete Aggregates)

  • PURPOSES : This study was performed to determine a systematic approach for measuring the coefficient of thermal expansion (COTE) of concrete specimens. This approach includes the initial calibration of measurement equipment. Test variables include coarse aggregate types such as natural aggregate, job-site produced recycled concrete aggregate, and recycled aggregate processed from an intermediate waste treatment company. METHODS : First, two cylindrical SUS-304 specimens with a known COTE value of $17.3{\times}10^{-6}m/m/^{\circ}C$. were used as reference specimens for the calibration of each measurement system. The well-known AASHTO TP-60 COTE apparatus for concrete measurement was utilized in this study. Four different measurement apparatuses were used with each LVDT installed and a calibration value was determined using each measurement apparatus. RESULTS : In the initial experimental stage, calibration values for each measurement apparatus were assumed to be almost identical. However, using the SUS-304 samples as a reference, the calibration values for the four different measurement apparatuses were found to range from 3.49 to $8.86{\times}10^{-6}m/m/^{\circ}C$. Using different adjusted values for each measurement apparatuses, COTE values for the three different concrete specimens were obtained. The COTE value of concrete made with natural coarse aggregate was $9.91{\times}10^{-6}m/m/^{\circ}C$, that of job-site produced recycled coarse aggregate was $10.45{\times}10^{-6}m/m/^{\circ}C$, and that of recycled aggregate processed from the intermediate waste treatment company was $10.82{\times}10^{-6}m/m/^{\circ}C$. CONCLUSIONS : We observed that the COTE value of concrete made from recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) was higher than that of concrete made from natural coarse aggregate. This difference is due to the fact that the total volumetric mortar proportion in the RCA mix is higher than that in the concrete mix made with natural coarse aggregate.

  • Current methods for evaluating unsignalized intersections, and estimating level-of-service (LOS) is determined from efficiency-based criteria such as little or no delay to very long delays. At present, similar procedures to evaluate intersections using safety-based criteria do not exist. The improvement of sight distances at intersections is the most effective way of improving intersection safety. However, a set of procedures is necessary to account for the limitations in current methodology. Such an approach would build upon such methods, but also account for: deficiencies in the current deterministic solution for the determination of intersection sight distances; opportunity for an accident and severity of an accident; and cost-effectiveness of attaining various levels of sight distances. In this research, a model that estimates the degree of safety at two-way stop-controlled intersections is described. Only crossing maneuvers are considered in this study because accidents caused by the crossing maneuvers are the dominate type among intersection accidents. Monte Carlo methods are used to estimate the hazard at an intersection as a function of roadway features and traffic conditions. Driver`s minimum gap acceptance in the crossing vehicles and headway distribution on the major road are used in the crossing vehicles and headway distribution on the major road are used in the model to simulate the real intersectional maneuvers. Other random variables addressed in the model are: traffic speeds; preception-reaction times of both drivers in the crossing vehicles and drivers in oncoming vehicles on the major road; and vehicles on the major roads. The developed model produces the total number of conflicts per year per vehicle and total potential kinetic energy per year per vehicle dissipated during conflicts as measurements of safety at intersections. Based on the results from the developed simulation model, desirable sight distances for various speeds were determined as 350 feet, 450 feet and 550 feet for 40 mph, 50 mph and 60 mph prevailing speed on the major road, respectively. These values are seven to eight percent less than those values recommended by AASHTO. A safety based level-of-service (LOS) is also developed using the results of the simulation model. When the total number of conflicts per vehicle is less than 0.05 at an intersection, the LOS of the intersection is `A' and when the total number of conflicts per vehicle is larger than 0.25 at an intersection, the LOS is `F'. Similarly, when the total hazard per vehicle is less than 350, 000 1b-ft2/sec2, the LOS is `F'. Once evaluation of the current safety at the intersection is complete, a sensitivity analysis can be done by changing one or more input parameters. This will estimate the benefit in terms of time and budget of hazard reduction based upon improving geometric and traffic characteristics at the intersection. This method will also enable traffic engineers in local governments to generate a priority list of intersection improvement projects.
