Let $A_1, A_2, \ldots, A_n$ be a sequence of events on a given probability space and let $m_n$ be the number of those A's which occur. Put $S_{0,n} = 1$ and $$ S_{k,n} = \Sigma P(A_i_1 \cap A_i_2 \cap \cdots \cap A_i_k), (a \leq k)$$ where the summation is over all subscripts satisfying $1 \let i_1 < i_2 < \cdots < i_k \leq n$.

A 10-b 500 MS/s A/D converter (ADC) with a hybrid calibration and error correction logic is described. The ADC employs a single-channel cascaded folding-interpolating architecture whose folding rate (FR) is 25 and interpolation rate (IR) is 8. To overcome the disadvantage of an offset error, we propose a hybrid self-calibration circuit at the open-loop amplifier. Further, a novel prevision digital error correction logic (DCL) for the folding ADC is also proposed. The ADC prototype using a 130 nm 1P6M CMOS has a DNL of ${\pm}0.8$ LSB and an INL of ${\pm}1.0$ LSB. The measured SNDR is 52.34-dB and SFDR is 62.04-dBc when the input frequency is 78.15 MHz at 500 MS/s conversion rate. The SNDR of the ADC is 7-dB higher than the same circuit without the proposed calibration. The effective chip area is $1.55mm^2$, and the power dissipates 300 mW including peripheral circuits, at a 1.2/1.5 V power supply.
FoxO3a is a member of the forkhead box class O (FoxO) transcription factor family and an important regulator of apoptosis. This work aimed to elucidate the involvement of FoxO3a in transforming growth factor-${\beta}1$(TGF-${\beta}1$)-induced apoptosis in FaO rat hepatoma cells. TGF-${\beta}1$ caused a time-dependent activation of FoxO3a and a subsequent increase in FoxO response-element-containing luciferase reporter activity, which was Akt-sensitive. The FaO cells stably transfected with a wild type FoxO3a were more susceptible to the formation of apoptotic bodies, populations of sub-G1 apoptotic cells, and collapse of the mitochondrial-membrane potential triggered by TGF-${\beta}1$. In contrast, transfection with small-interfering RNA (siRNA) oligonucleotide specific for FoxO3a significantly inhibited caspase activation in FaO cells treated with TGF-${\beta}1$. It thus appears that FoxO3a plays a crucial mediatory role in the TGF-${\beta}1$ signaling pathway leading to apoptosis.
G192.8-1.1 has been known as one of the faintest supernova remnants (SNRs) in the Galax until the radio continuum of G192.8-1.1 is proved to be thermal by Gao et al. (2011). Yet, the nature of G192.8-1.1 has not been fully investigated. Here, we report the possible discovery of faint non-thermal radio continuum components with a spectral index ${\alpha}{\sim}0.56(S_{\nu}{\propto}{\nu}^{-{\alpha}})$ around G192.8-1.1, while of the radio continuum emission is thermal. Also, our Arecibo $H_I$ data reveal an $H_I$ shell, expanding with an expansion velocity of $20-60km\;s^{-1}$, that has an excellent morphological correlation with the radio continuum emission. The estimated physical parameters of the $H_I$ shell and the possible association of non-thermal radio continuum emission with it suggest G192.8-1.1 to be an~0.3 Myr-old SNR. However, the presence of thermal radio continuum implies the presence of early-type stars in the same region. One possibility is that a massive star is ionizing the interior of an old SNR. If it is the case, the electron distribution assumed by the centrally-peaked surface brightness of thermal emission implies that G192.8-1.1 is a "thermal-composite" SNR, rather than a typical shell-type SNR, where the central hot gas that used to be bright in X-rays has cooled down. Therefore, we propose that G192.8-1.1 is an old evolved thermal-composite SNR showing recurring emission in the radio continuum due to a nearby massive star. The infrared image supports that the $H_I$ shell of G192.8-1.1 is currently encountering a nearby star forming region that possibly contains an early type star(s).
A k-dimensional vector bundle is a bundle ${\xi}=(E,P,B,F^k)$ with fibre $F^k$ satisfying the local triviality, where F is the field of real numbers R or complex numbers C ([1], [2] and [3]). Let $Vect_k(X)$ be the set consisting of all isomorphism classes of k-dimensional vector bundles over the topological space X. Then $Vect_F(X)=\{Vect_k(X)\}_{k=0,1,{\cdots}}$ is a semigroup with Whitney sum (${\S}1$). For a pair (X, A) of topological spaces, a difference isomorphism over (X, A) is a vector bundle morphism ([2], [3]) ${\alpha}:{\xi}_0{\rightarrow}{\xi}_1$ such that the restriction ${\alpha}:{\xi}_0{\mid}A{\longrightarrow}{\xi}_1{\mid}A$ is an isomorphism. Let $S_k(X,A)$ be the set of all difference isomorphism classes over (X, A) of k-dimensional vector bundles over X with fibre $F^k$. Then $S_F(X,A)=\{S_k(X,A)\}_{k=0,1,{\cdots}}$, is a semigroup with Whitney Sum (${\S}2$). In this paper, we shall prove a relation between $Vect_F(X)$ and $S_F(X,A)$ under some conditions (Theorem 2, which is the main theorem of this paper). We shall use the following theorem in the paper. THEOREM 1. Let ${\xi}=(E,P,B)$ be a locally trivial bundle with fibre F, where (B, A) is a relative CW-complex. Then all cross sections S of ${\xi}{\mid}A$ prolong to a cross section $S^*$ of ${\xi}$ under either of the following hypothesis: (H1) The space F is (m-1)-connected for each $m{\leq}dim$ B. (H2) There is a relative CW-complex (Y, X) such that $B=Y{\times}I$ and $A=(X{\times}I)$${\cap}(Y{\times}O)$, where I=[0, 1]. (For proof see p.21 [2]).
Many published studies have concerned associations between the CYP1A2 -163 C>A polymorphism and risk of lung cancer, but the results have been inconsistent. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis to obtain a more precise estimate. We searched the PubMed database up to March 1, 2013 for relevant cohort and case-control studies. Supplementary search was conducted manually by searching the references of the included studies and relevant meta-analyses. A meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.2 software for calculation of pooled odds ratios (ORs) and relevant 95% confidence intervals (CIs) after data extraction. Finally, seven case-control studies and one nested case-control study involving 1,675 lung cancer patients and 2,393 controls were included. The meta-analysis showed that there was no association of CYP1A2 -163 C>A polymorphism with risk of lung cancer overall [(OR=0.89, 95%CI= 0.74-1.07) for C vs. A; (OR=0.73, 95%CI= 0.50-1.07) for AA vs. CC ; (OR=0.82, 95%CI= 0.62-1.09) for AC vs. CC; (OR=0.79, 95%CI= 0.58-1.07) for (AC+AA) vs. CC; and (OR=0.87, 95%CI= 0.67-1.13) for AA vs. (CC+AC)]. Subgroup analysis indicated that there was an associationbetween CYP1A2 -163C>A polymorphism and lung cancer risk for population-based controls, a trend risk for SCCL (squamous cell carcinoma of lung) and Caucasians. These results suggested that -163 C>A polymorphism is likely to be associated with risk of lung cancer compared with population-based controls.
Chungkookjang (CKJ) is a fermented soybean product and one of favorite traditional foods in Korea. In this study, the alcoholic extract from Korean fermented soybean (CKJ) and its one of major flavonoids, genistein were evaluated for their protective effect against B(a)P induced cytotoxicity and DNA damage in HepG2 cells. CKJ extract and genistein decreased B(a)P-induced cell cytotoxicity. CKJ extract inhibited DNA single strand breaks evaluated by single cell gel electrophoresis. From RT-PCR study, it was revealed that CKJ extract decrease DNA damage induced in HepG2 cells expressing CYP1A1 and 1A2 by B(a)P. The metabolizing activities of CYP1A1 and CYP1A2, as measured by the 7-alkoxy resorufin O-deethylation (AROD) assay, showed that CKJ extract and genistein inhibited CYP1A1 and CYP1A2 activities. Genistein may contribute to these biological effects of CKJ extract at least in part. All these results indicate that CKJ extract and genistein may be useful for protection against B(a)P-induced cytotoxicity and DNA damage. Therefore, the alcoholic extract of Korean fermented soybean (CKJ) is suggested to be promising functional food which can prevent the cellular genotoxicity of dietary and lifestyle related carcinogens.

Background: Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genes have been implicated in cervical cancer in several populations. Objectives: To study the predispositions of HLA alleles/haplotypes with cervical cancer. Materials and Methods: Clinically diagnosed and PAP smear confirmed cervical cancer patients (n 48) and age matched controls (n 47) were genotyped for HLA-A,-B,-DRB1* and DQB1* alleles by PCR-SSP methods. Results: The frequencies of alleles DRB1*04 (OR=2.57), DRB1*15 (OR=2.04), DQB1*0301 (OR=4.91), DQB1*0601 (OR=2.21), B*15 (OR=13.03) and B*07 (OR=6.23) were higher in cervical cancer patients than in the controls. The frequencies of alleles DRB1*10 (OR=0.22) and B*35 (OR=0.19) were decreased. Strong disease associations were observed for haplotypes DRB1*15-DQB1*0601 (OR=6.56; p< $3.5{\times}10^{-4}$), DRB1*14-DQB1*0501 (OR=6.51; p<0.039) and A*11-B*07 (OR=3.95; p<0.005). The reduced frequencies of haplotypes DRB1*10-DQB1*0501 (OR=0.45), A*03-B*35 (OR=0.25) and A*11-B*35 (OR= 0.06) among patients suggested a protective association. HLA-C* typing of 8 patients who possessed a unique three locus haplotype 'A*11-B*07-DRB1*04' (8/48; 16.66%; OR=6.51; p<0.039) revealed the presence of a four locus haplotype 'A*11-B*07-C*01-DRB1*04' in patients (4/8; 50%). Amino acid variation analysis of susceptible allele DQB1*0601 suggested 'tyrosine' at positions ${\beta}9$ and ${\beta}37$ and tyrosine-non-tyrosine genotype combination increased the risk of cervical cancer. Conclusions: Strong susceptible associations were documented for HLA alleles B*15, B*07, DRB1*04, DRB1*15, DQB1*0301, DQB1*0601 and haplotypes DRB1*15-DQB1*0601 and DRB1*14-DQB1*0501. Further, protective associations were evidenced for alleles B*35 and DRB1*10 and haplotypes A*11-B*35 and DRB1*10-DQB1*0501 with cervical cancer in South India.
(1) The flow data of f (stress) and ${\dot{s}$ (strain rate) for Fe and Ti alloys were plotted in the form of f vs. -ln ${\dot{s}$ by using the literature values. (2) The plot showed two distinct patterns A and B; Pattern A is a straight line with a negative slope, and Pattern B is a curve of concave upward. (3) According to Kim and Ree's generalized theory of plastic deformation, pattern A & B belong to Case 1 and 2, respectively; in Case 1, only one kind of flow units acts in the deformation, and in Case 2, two kinds flow units act, and stress is expressed by $f={X_1f_1}+{X_2f_2}$where $f_1\;and\;f_2$ are the stresses acting on the flow units of kind 1 and 2, respectively, and $X_1,\;X_2$ are the fractions of the surface area occupied by the two kinds of flow units; $f_j=(1/{\alpha}_j) sinh^{-1}\;{\beta}_j{{\dot{s}}\;(j=1\;or\;2)$, where $1/{\alpha}_j\;and\;{\beta}_j$ are proportional to the shear modulus and relaxation time, respectively. (4) We found that grain-boundary flow units only act in the deformation of Fe and Ti alloys whereas dislocation flow units do not show any appreciable contribution. (5) The deformations of Fe and Ti alloys belong generally to pattern A (Case 1) and B (Case 2), respectively. (6) By applying the equations, f=$(1/{\alpha}_{g1}) sinh^-1({\beta}_{g1}{\dot{s}}$) and $f=(X_{g1}/{\alpha}_{g1})sinh^{-1}({\beta}_{g1}{\dot{s}})+ (X_{g2}/{\alpha}_{g2})\;shih^{-1}({\beta}_{g2}{\dot{s}})$ to the flow data of Fe and Ti alloys, the parametric values of $x_{gj}/{\alpha}_{gj}\;and\;{\beta}_{gs}(j=1\;or\;2)$ were determined, here the subscript g signifies a grain-boundary flow unit. (7) From the values of ($({\beta}_gj)^{-1}$) at different temperatures, the activation enthalpy ${\Delta}H_{gj}^{\neq}$ of deformation due to flow unit gj was determined, ($({\beta}_gj)^{-1}$) being proportional to , the jumping frequency (the rate constant) of flow unit gj. The ${\Delta}H_{gj}\;^{\neq}$ agreed very well with ${\Delta}H_{gj}\;^{\neq}$ (self-diff) of the element j whose diffusion in the sample is a critical step for the deformation as proposed by Kim-Ree's theory (Refer to Tables 3 and 4). (8) The fact, ${\Delta}H_{gj}\;^{\neq}={\Delta}H_{j}\;^{\neq}$ (self-diff), justifies the Kim-Ree theory and their method for determining activation enthalpies for deformation. (9) A linear relation between ${\beta}^{-1}$ and carbon content [C] in hot-rolled steel was observed, i.e., In ${\beta}^{-1}$ = -50.2 [C] - 40.3. This equation explains very well the experimental facts observed with regard to the deformation of hot-rolled steel..
