Noise and Room Acoustic Conditions in a Tertiary Referral Hospital, Seoul National University Hospital

  • Background and Objectives: Noise levels and room acoustic parameters at a tertiary referral hospital, Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) in Korea, are investigated. Materials and Methods: Through a questionnaire, acoustically problematic rooms are identified. Noise levels in emergency rooms (ERs) and intensive care units (ICUs) are measured over about three days. Acoustically critical and problematic rooms in the otolaryngology department are measured including examination rooms, operating rooms, nurse stations, receptions, and patient rooms. Results: The A-weighted equivalent noise level, LAeq, ranges from 54 to 56 dBA, which is at least 10 dB lower than the noise levels of 65 to 73 dBA measured in American ERs. In an ICU, the noise level for the first night was 66 dBA, which came down to 56 dBA for the next day. The noise levels during three different ear surgeries vary from 57 to 62 dBA, depending on the use of surgical drills and suctions. The noise levels in a patient room is found to be 47 dBA, while the nurse stations and the receptions have high noise levels up to 64 dBA. The reverberation times in an operation room, examination room, and single patient room are found to be below 0.6 s. Conclusions: At SNUH, the nurse stations and receptions were found to be quite noisy. The ERs were quieter than in the previous studies. The measured reverberation times seemed low enough but some other nurse stations and examination rooms were not satisfactory according to the questionnaire.

Raynoise를 이용한 철도소음의 예측에 관한 연구 - 예측식과 Raynoise모델링의 비교 - (A Study on Prediction of Railway Noise Using Raynoise Modeling - A comparison of predicting expressions and Raynoise simulations -)

  • With the rapid industrial development, railways have become a main traffic means of transportation. However, rail traffic noise and vibration have become a major problem in urban areas which is a very serious issue for the living environment. Especially, railway noise induced by rail operations has influenced on the residents living near railway tracks. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the Raynoise modeling in railway applications. Generally, my acoustics have been used to investigate the effectiveness of noise barriers in railway applications and barriers are modeled using the commercial software Raynoise. A-weighted sound pressure level have been measured at six locations, 4m from the track and are compared with experimental values. Based on the analysis of the results, Comparison between numerical and experimental values are within 1dB (A). Also, when a train is m through the Raynoise modeling, the general influential sphere of railway noise can be determined. Therefore, this study will be using basic data in establishing effective railway noise prevention plans far the future. Also, we could know that is applicable of Raynoise modeling at railway noise.

자기동조 피이드백 제어기를 이용한 적응 능동소음제어에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Adaptive Active Noise Control Using the Self-tuning feedback controller)

  • Active noise control uses the intentional superposition of acoustic waves to create a destructive interference pattern such that a reduction of the unwanted sound occurs. In active noise control system the choice of a control structure and design of the controller are the main issues of concern. In real acoustic fields there are a vast number of noise sources with time-varying nature and the characteristics of transducers and the geometric set-up of control system are subject to change. Accordingly the control system should be designed to adapt such circumstances so that required level of performance is maintained. In this paper, the adaptive control algorithm for self-tuning adaptive controller is presented for the application in active noise control system. Self-tuning is a direct integration of identification and controller design algorithm in such a manner that the two processes proceed sequentially. The least mean square algorithm was used for the identification schemes and adaptive weighted minimum variance control algorithm was applied for self-tuning controller. Computer simulation results for self-tuning feedback controller are presented. And simulation results was shown to be useful for the situation in which the periodic noise sources act on the acoustic field.

회귀분석법에 의한 선박 소음 예측에 관한 연구 (Application of Multiple Regression Method to Prediction of Noise Level in Ship Cabins)

  • 본 연구에서는 선박의 초기 설계시에 비교적 간단한 자료로 각 선실에서의 소음수준을 예측하기 위한 방법으로 다중 회귀 분석법에 근거한 통계적 접근을 시도하였다. 선실에서의 소음수준에 영향을 미치는 여러 변수중에서, 선종, 재화중량, 주기관과 선실의 위치, 거주구 형상, 선실의 종류 및 프로펠러 스큐등이 최종 회귀식에 포함되었다. 회귀식의 추출시 사용하지 않은 6척 210개 선실에 대하여 검증을 실시한 결과, 77%의 선실이 3 dB 이내의 오차범위에 있음을 확인하였다.

실측자료를 통한 구간단속카메라의 소음저감효과 분석 (Effect of Noise Reduction by Installation of a Point to Point Speed Camera)

  • This study was reviewed the noise reduction effects with installation of 'point to point speed camera' for controlling the speed of the car. The multiple regression analysis was performed to know how the relationship between the noise level and these parameters, such as measured traffic volume and rate of heavy vehicle and weighted average speed was changed with and without the 'point to point speed camera'. In the analysis results shows that the less traffic volume, the more noise reduction effect has been increased and the more traffic volume, the more noise reduction effect has been reduced. And noise reduction effects by the 'point to point speed camera' was different from each measured point. The cause of the difference was determined that inadequate 'point to point speed camera' position to see the effect of noise reduction. It is determined to require a more study to improve the noise reduction effects of the 'point to point speed camera' such as the camera position adjustment.

선박의 담당업무에 따른 소음노출레벨 측정에 관한 연구 (Noise Exposure Level Measurements for Different Job Categories on Ships)

  • 통상적으로 직업소음에 의한 청력손실을 최소화하기 위해서는 작업자가 8시간 동안 85 dBA 이상 소음에 노출되지 않도록 권고하고 있다. 이번 연구에서는 실습선박에서 7종류의 담당업무별 작업자들의 소음노출레벨을 측정하였다. 항해 중, 24시간 동안 작업자의 위치하는 A특성등가소음레벨(LAeq,i)과 소음장소의 지속기간(h) 및 소음기여도(Lex,24h,i)를 고려한 소음노출레벨(Lex,24h)을 측정하였다. 그 결과, 갑판사관 그룹 Lex,24h=56.1 dB, 갑판부원 그룹은 Lex,24h=58.9 dB, 실습항해사들은 Lex,24h=62.0 dB, 취사부원들은 Lex,24h=64.3 dB, 실습기관사그룹은 Lex,24h=91.1 dB, 기관사관 그룹은 Lex,24h=91.1 dB, 그리고 기관부원 그룹은 Lex,24h=95.1 dB를 나타내고 있다. 따라서 기관 업무를 담당하는 기관사들, 기관부원들 그리고 기관실습생들은 반드시 청력보호구를 착용해야함을 알 수 있었다. 소음이 심한 기관실에서 청력보호구를 착용한다면 기관사관그룹은 Lex,24h=23.1 dB, 기관부원그룹은 Lex,24h=24.4 dB 그리고 기관실습생들은 Lex,24h=21.5 dB의 소음노출레벨을 줄일 수 있을 것으로 추정된다. 또한 실습생들의 거주구역인 제2 강의실 겸 식당구역에 바닥시공을 64 mm, A-60-class 뜬바닥 구조로 개선했다면 실습항해사들의 소음노출도는 Lex,24h=4.3 dB, 실습기관사들은 Lex,24h=1.8 dB 정도 추가적인 감소가 있었을 것이다.

승용차 내부소음의 음질평가 실험연구 (Experimental Study on Subjective Evaluation of Car Interior Sound Quality)

  • This study is directed toward determining the number and characteristics of psychologically meaningful perceptual dimensions required for assessing the sound Ouaiity with respect to vehicle interior and/or exterior noises. and toward identifying the acoustical or psychoacoustical bases underlying the perception. By nonmetric MDS and clustring analysis of sound quality data sets on our own, of critical importance are two perceptual dimensions for which subjective verdicts can be interpreted as loudness and sharpness. The perceptual dimensions based upon similarity judgments could be accounted for 48% and 24% of the variance. each of which might be a match for the acoustic parameter "A-weighted maximum pressure level"(r= .85) and for the psychoacoustic parameter "sharpness" (r= .65), respectively. On the other hand, the perceptual dimensions based upon preference ratings could explain 66% and 10% of the variance. where the acoustic parameter "A-weighted maximum pressure leve"(r= .92) might be taken to be a best predictor, but sharpness appeared to be less suitable for the description of Preference behavior. Linked to the results, the problems of quantitative modelling of subjective sound quality evaluation and also of implementing corresponding cognitive combination rule for technical and industrial applications, say having "winner-sound qualify" according to preference criteria will be shortly in discussion.

공압장치를 이용한 공력 소음 저감 연구 (The research on reducing aeroacoustic noise using by Pneumatic Auxiliary Unit)

  • We conduct the research for reducing aeroacoustic noise occurred when a vehicle operates in high speed situation without modifying the structural configuration such as deforming A-pillar's side curvature. We introduce PAU (Pneumatic Auxiliary Unit) which is a sort of air duct using intake air through radiator grill. According to our research, we can reduce overall noise levels around the surface of HSM (Hyundai Simplified Model). When a vehicleruns 100km/s, area-weighted acoustic power level (AWAPL) indicates 33dB without PAU. However with PAU, coverall AWAPL is decreased to 29dB which means we can improvesilentness approximately 12% compared to ordinary case. Moreover we conduct similar implementation to steering situation especially about yawing. In varioussituations, -10, 0, 10 degree of yawing, we observe 10% reduction in the upstream region of HSM but little increase in downstream region. It seems that inlet air overlap turbulent kinetic energy to surrounding flow. Even though downstream region's noise is louder than upstream region, overall AWAPL is still lower than conventional condition. We also apply this scheme to the real vehicle situation, then we get reasonable output which can support our research outputs.

PC방(게임방)에서 헤드셋을 착용한 중•고등학생의 소음 노출수준 (Noise Exposure Levels for the Middle and the High School Students using Headsets in the PC Rooms)

  • This study was conducted to measure the exposure levels to noise for the middle and the high school students who worn headsets in the PC rooms. The noise levels from the headsets were measured with noise dosimeters, and the statistical relationships between the utilization pattern, user's views on the PC rooms and it's environment were analyzed for the selected PC rooms in the Ahnshan area. The results were as follows; 1. No significant difference was found in the number of uses and average time spent per day by education level and by sex of the users(p>0.05). 2. No statistical significant difference was found between the contents selected by education level of the users (p>0.05). The male participants overwhelmingly enjoyed the PC games (98.3 %) while females selected for listening music (75.0 %) with significant difference(P<0.05), followed by browsing internet and PC communications (70.0 %), PC game (66.7 %) and chatting (33.3 %). 3. The actual noise measurements of the headsets worn by the users of different sexes and educational backgrounds produced no differences(p>0.05), while a significant difference was found between genders (p<0.05). 4. For sound pressure level measurements, the weighted average(Lavg) of 84.5 dB(A) on the left headsets exceeded that of 79.8 dB(A) on the right headsets significantly(p<0.01) and the maximum value of 96.9 dB(A) on the left headsets exceeded the maximum value of 93.5 dB(A) on the right headsets(p<0.01). 5. The actual noise measurements of the headsets worn by the users of different sexes and educational backgrounds produced no differences(p>0.05), however, the contents selected by the users with different educational backgrounds were noted with significant difference(p<0.05) while no difference was found by gender(p>0.05).

웨이브렛 변환을 이용한 음성의 적응 잡음 제거 (Adaptive Noise Reduction of Speech using Wavelet Transform)

  • 본 논문은 잡음 환경의 음성 인식을 위하여 음성에 부가된 잡음을 제거하는 방법으로 프레임 단위로 웨이브렛 변환을 하여 웨이브렛 계수의 표준편차를 이용하여 시간 적응 임계값을 정하는 새로운 방법을 제안한다. 음성의 특성을 고려하기 위하여 고주파 성분을 많이 가지는 무성음의 경우는 첫 번째 스케일의 detail 신호에서, 저주파 성분을 많이 가지는 유성음의 경우는 세 번째 스케일의 approximation 신호의 표준편차를 이용하여 시간 적응 임계값을 설정하였다. 또한 제안한 방법으로 잡음을 제거한 후에도 묵음구간에 잔여 잡음이 존재하게 되므로 묵음구간을 검출하여 묵음구간의 잔여 잡음을 제거하였다. 실험을 통해 제안한 방법이 일반적인 웨이브렛 변환과 웨이브렛 패킷 변환을 이용한 방법보다 SNR과 MSE측면에서 향상됨을 확인 할 수 있었다.
