  • Since the eco-era is getting closer, the importance of noise reducing in the passenger cars of high-speed train is very important. The active noise control is best choice to reduce low frequency noise because the passive one is too heavy for high speed trains where weight is so critical. Also ANC is able to reduce the ambient noise when the environmental-factor changes. To reduce a three-dimensional closed-space sound field like a car of a high-speed rail is hard to do using single channel ANC control system. We used multi-channel FXLMS algorithm which calculation speed is fast and the secondary path estimation is possible in order to take into account the physical delay in electro acoustic hardware control loudspeaker and power amplifier. Firstly, we have measured interior noise of KTX and estimated noise path in KTX test-bed. However there was some problem related to algorithm divergence and increasing the filter order. We have made a simulation of interior environment of KTX car by using three frequency bands of 120Hz, 280Hz, 360Hz as the most important for KTX ANC system. During this research the interior noise reduction of KTX car was made by using the multi-channel FXLMS algorithm. Reduction performance was evaluated and compared each other for open space section and tunnel section. in-situ experiment for the KTX noise reduction by proposed ANC was performed based on data obtained in simulation and they were compared for open space section and tunnel section as well.

  • The atomization phenomena and spray characteristics of drum type rotary atomizer using centrifugal force from high rotational speed of gas turbine engine shaft were studied through rotary atomizer modeling analysis and experimental method. A test rig for rotary atomization that has range of $5,000{\sim}40,000\;rpm$ was used to make similarity for high speed rotating shaft. Spray visualization methodology and Phase Doppler Anemometry were also used to investigate the atomization mechanism and spray characteristics. We found that the rotating fuel spray has unique breakup process and we have to make breakup point earlier through increasing rotating speed to improve atomization performance.

  • In this study, ring-shaped acoustic resonators were proposed to be installed in a silencer to increase the acoustic performance of silencer in the low-frequency range. Evaluation of noise reduction performance of acoustic resonator arrays was carried out by measuring the random-incidence absorption coefficient. It was found that the absorption coefficient of resonator array was measured up to 1 at 125 Hz of 1/3-octave band center frequency. Insertion losses of silencers with ring-shaped acoustic resonator arrays were measured based on ISO 7235. The results were shown that the ring-shaped resonator could increase the insertion loss up to 13 dB without flow, whereas 7 dB when flow speed reached 15 m/s. As increasing the flow speed above 15 m/s, the effect of acoustic resonator decreased due to the effect of nonlinear air damping of the resonator. It was also found that the increment of pressure drop by the presence of resonator arrays was about 9 % at flow speed of 25 m/s.

  • The energy demand of the world is increasing rapidly, mainly using fossil energy, which causes environmental damage. The wind is free and clean energy to solve the environmental problems. Thailand is one of the developing nations, and the majority of its energy is obtained from petroleum, natural gas and coal. The objective of this study is to test the characteristics of wind energy at Khon Kaen in Thailand. The wind measurement tools, the 3-cup anemometers to measure wind speed, and wind vanes to measure wind direction, were mounted on a wind tower mast to record wind data at the heights of 60, 90 and 120 meters above ground level (AGL) for 5 years between January 2012 and December 2016. The results show that the annual mean wind speeds were 3.79, 4.32 and 4.66 m/s, respectively. The highest mean wind speeds occurred in June, August and December, in order, and the lowest occurred in September. The majority of prevailing wind directions were from the North-East and South-West directions. The average annual wind shear coefficient was 0.297. Furthermore, five wind turbines with rated power from 0.85 to 4.5 MW were selected to estimate the wind energy output and it was found that the maximum AEP and CF were achieved from the low cut-in speed and high hub-height wind turbines. This important information will help to develop wind energy applications, such as the plan to produce electricity and the calculation of the wind load that affects tall and large structures.

  • The three-dimensional unsteady incompressible Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and k-${\varepsilon}$ double equations turbulent model were used to investigate the effect on the measurements of anemometers due to a passing high-speed train. Sliding mesh technology in Fluent was utilized to treat the moving boundary problem. The high-speed train considered in this paper was with bogies and inter-carriage gaps. Combined with the results of the wind tunnel test in a published paper, the accuracy of the present numerical method was validated to be used for further study. In addition, the difference of slipstream between three-car and eight-car grouping models was analyzed, and a series of numerical simulations were carried out to study the influences of the anemometer heights, the train speeds, the crosswind speeds and the directions of the induced slipstream on the measurements of the anemometers. The results show that the influence factors of the train-induced slipstream are the passing head car and tail car. Using the three-car grouping model to analyze the train-induced flow is reasonable. The maxima of horizontal slipstream velocity tend to reduce as the height of the anemometer increases. With the train speed increasing, the relationship between $V_{train}$ and $V_{induced\;slipstream}$ can be expressed with linear increment. In the absence of natural wind conditions, from the head car arriving to the tail car leaving, the induced wind direction changes about $330^{\circ}$, while under the crosswind condition the wind direction fluctuates around $-90^{\circ}$. With the crosswind speed increasing, the peaks of $V_X,{\mid}V_{XY}-V_{wind}{\mid}$ of the head car and that of $V_X$ of the tail car tend to enlarge. Thus, when anemometers are installed along high-speed railways, it is important to study the effect on the measurements of anemometers due to the train-induced slipstream.

  • Due to a roots type medium vacuum pump is operated in condition of $1{\sim}10^{-3}$ torr vacuum, it could be applied for production and process of industrial parts, such as precise processing, vaporization, enrichment, separation, casting, metaling, welding, transportation. Therefore, the demand of this pump is increasing nowadays in our industrial markets of semiconductor, electric, electronic, automobile, material, environmental and transporting industries. However, the pumps are almost imported, because the domestic pumps are inferior in fields of vacuum range as under $10^{-1}$torr, relevant techniques(design, fabrication, casting, test, etc.) to the imported ones. In this study, essential parts of the development pump are designed with using of CFD and 3D decodes, FEM for analysing strength and deformation, generated heat, vibration and noise control, and are casted with using of mechanochemistry techniques for decreasing of weights, increasing of heat resistances and abrasion durability of materials for pump caing and impellers especially. Besides, in order to achieve ultimate vacuum around $10^{-3}$torr, this pump is composed of 6 stages, among which 1st stage is operated separately from remained stages. Additionally, a test rig for prototype pumps(300$m^3/h$ and 2,500$m^3/h$) is designed and procured as to apply for multi-staged rootz type vacuum pump, with modification of the test method recommended by KS B 6314 "Positive-displacement oil-sealed rotary vacuum pumps".

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the centering ratio and reduction of canal curvature according to the preparation sizes of #30, #40 and #50 using three rotary NiTi instruments which have different shaft tapers. Seventy-two simulated root canals in clear resin blocks (Endo Training Bloc; Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) were divided as following 3 groups according to the file system; the 24 canal blocks prepared with each of ProTaper Universal system (Group P), LightSpeed eXtra system (Group L), and K3 (Group K). The pre- and post-instrumented root canals were scanned and superimposed to evaluate and calculate the centering ratio and reduction of canal curvature. Mean scores of each group were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOV A and Duncan's multiple range test for post-hoc comparison. The results were as followings: 1. Group L showed better centering ratio, followed by K and P. And all experimental groups generally showed increasing tendency of centering ratio as the apical size was increasing from #30 to #50, except at 1 mm level of group P where showed reducing tendency of centering ratio. The smaller the ratio, the better the instrument remained centered in the canal. 2. Group P showed more decrease of canal curvature at all apical shaping size (p < 0.05). Under the conditions of this study, the shaft design could affect the quality of canal shaping and the smooth taperless flexible (LightSpeed) shaft design was capable of preparing canals with good morphological characteristics in curved canals.

  • A diesel engine is equipped with a turbocharger for providing more power at a low engine speed region by supplying charge air to combustion chambers. The turbocharger makes it possible to satisfy stringent emission regulations and customers' demand of enjoying the fun to drive by increasing engine performance. However, the turbocharger has the disadvantage of making BPF(Blade Passing Frequency), hissing, surge, whistle, and blow noises. Among them, reducing the blow noise, a narrow-band noise(a general range : 1800~2000Hz), is possible by using a resonator that controls the narrow frequency band governing the resonance in the intake system. In this study, the optimum location of the resonator is found by employing Boost as a CAE(Computer Aided Engineering) tool and is confirmed by experiments of an engine dynamo test and a real vehicle test.

  • In this paper, experimental data on flow pattern transition of inclination angles from 0-90 are presented. A test section is constructed 2 mm long and I.D 1inch using transparent material. The test section is supported by aluminum frame that can be placed with any arbitrary inclined angles. The air-water two-phase flow is observed at room temperature and atmospheric condition using both high speed camera and void impedance meter. The signal is sampled with sampling rate 1kHz and is analyzed under fully-developed condition. Based on experimental data, flow pattern maps are made for various inclination angles. As increasing the inclination angels from 0 to 90, the flow pattern transitions on the plane jg-jf are changed, such as stratified flow to plug flow or slug flow or plug flow to bubbly flow. The transition lines between pattern regimes are moved or sometimes disappeared due to its inclined angle.

  • This study includes the efface of shielding gas types on $CO_2$ laser weldability of low carbon automotive galvanized steel. The types of shielding gas evaluated are He, $CO_2$, Ar, $N_2$, 50%Ar+50%$N_2$. The weld penetration, strength, formability(Erichsen test) of Laser weld are found to be strongly dependent upon the types of shielding gas used. Further, the maximum travel speed and flow rate to form a keyhole weld is also dependent upon types of shielding gas. The ability of shielding gas in removing plasma plume and thus increasing weld penetration is believed to be closely related with ionization/dissociation potential, which determine the period of plasma formation and disappearance. Further, thermal conductivity and reactivity of gas with molten pool also give strong effect on penetration and porosity formation which in turn affect on the formability and strength.
