The common petroleum can make precipitation such as a wax in a polar region due to severely cold weather condition, which can cause problems to fuel supply system. The petroleum product used in the polar region has thus been manufactured and sold suitable for the cold environment. However it is difficult to supply such petroleum products on time since these were mainly supplied abroad. In this article, the original fuel properties were first analyzed in order to find alternative fuel products for polar region. Jet fuel which is excellent cold characteristics was chosen and the fuel properties was tested by adding a constant concentration of lubricant additives to the jet fuel. As a result, the lubricant additive R621 showed the best lubricity, and adding 1000 mg/L of R621 content to the jet fuel was sufficient to enhance the lubricity. We envision that the jet fuel added 1000 mg/L of R621A can be suitable for alternative special antarctic blend diesel (SAB) in an severe polar environment.
Recently, various health care methods for infants have been suggested in the impending era of low birth rate society. We propose, in this context, an early diagnosis method for common infant respiratory diseases. Particularly, the method is regarding infant cold and infant pneumonia. Firstly, sounds of infant crying, only expressing means of infants, among the infant cold group and the infant pneumonia group are compared and examined to find the differences from those among the healthy infant group. For this, the link between infected organs and articulatory organs is investigated. Also, resulting wave forms and frequency bandwidths among each group are compared and analyzed, by using the spectrum for a component voice, to diagnose the infant cold and pneumonia. Finally, the effectiveness of this method is verified through the experiments.
Chinese crude drug 'Kang Whal' has been used mainly as a headache in common cold, rheumatic arthralgia and aching of the back and shoulder. To clarify the botanical origin of Kang Whal from Korea, the anatomical characteristics of Ostericum koreanum Maxim. and Notopterygium incisium Ting ex H.T.Chang were studied. As a result, it was clarified that Kang Whal from Korea was the underground part of Ostericum koreanum.
The root of Angelica koreana $M_{AXIMOWICZ}$ (Umbelliferae) known as "Kang-whal" in Korea used for the treatment of common cold, headache and gout etc. The comparative anatomy of Angelica Koreana $M_{AXIMOWICZ}$ and A. purpuraefolia $C_{HUNG}$ was presented. A great part of the report was dealed with the differences in the comparative histology of root, stem, main vein in leaf and fruits.

We examined the nutritive value of common grass species in the semi-arid rangelands of Borana in southern Ethiopia using local experience based herbage preference (LEBHP) perception and laboratory techniques. Local pastoralists in the study area were asked to identify common grass species and rank them according to the species' preferences and palatability to cattle. The pastoralists listed a total of 15 common grass species which were then sampled during the main rain and cold dry seasons and analyzed for crude protein (CP), Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF), Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF) and ash content to verify pastoralists' claim regarding the quality of individual species. The relative feed value (RFV) and dry matter digestibility (DMD) were also calculated using NDF and ADF contents. Spearman's rank correlation was used to examine possible relationships between laboratory results and pastoralists' experience on grass quality. Cenchrus ciliaris, Chrysopogon aucheri, Digitaria milanjiana, Eragrostis papposa and Panicum maximum were the top five species based on LEBHP perception. There were indications of inconsistency in terms of LEBHP perception among the different pastoral communities. The chemical composition of all grass species showed significant (p<0.05) variation between sites, seasons and species. The results showed that the CP values for the Borana rangelands were in the range of 8.7% in the main rain season to 5.1% for the cold dry season. The fiber constituents were relatively low in the main rain season compared to the cold dry season. Overall, Digitaria milanjiana had the highest CP (16.5%) content, while the least was recorded with Heteropogon contortus (10.8) and Aristida adoensis (9.8%) during the main rain season. It seems that the spatial variability of landscapes within the wider geographical regions, soil properties and texture, and land-use patterns probably contributed to site differences in species quality. Generally, the RFV of individual grass species was significantly (p<0.05) varied between and within sites. The ranking of species by pastoralists according to their preferences by cattle was highly correlated with the chemical composition of laboratory results of individual grass species with 'r' values for CP (0.94), ash (0.95), NDF (-0.98), ADF (-0.93) and ADL (-0.93). We suggest the complimentary use of LEBHP and laboratory techniques in evaluating the nutritive quality of rangeland forage species for sustainable animal production.
Human rhinoviruses (HRVs) is a nonenveloped, single stranded RNA virus belonging to the family Picornavirudae. Transmission by direct contact such as hand-to-hand, hand-to-nose, and hand-to-eye has been readily demonstrated in experimental settings. HRV are the most frequent causes of common cold infection, however, they are also known to replicate in the lower respiratory tract and associated with more severe respiratory illnesses such as asthma. New technique such as reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction and molecular typing in HRV has been developed and our understanding of the importance of these respiratory viruses. HRVs consisted of 101 serotypes that are classified into groups A and B according to sequence variations. And there is a newly identified set of HRVs, called Group C, and it is currently under investigation. In recent study using PCR techniques, HRVs accounted for approximate 50-80% of common colds and 85 % of childhood asthma exacerbations and in more than half of adult exacerbations. However, the mechanisms of HRV- induced asthma exacerbations are poorly understood. This review discusses the association between HRVs and childhood asthma.

This study was conducted to investigate the thermoregulatory behavior of young males in terms of self-identified thermal tolerance. We recruited 436 male students from Seoul ($24.0{\pm}4.6yr$ in age, $175.3{\pm}5.5cm$ in height, $70.1{\pm}10.6kg$ in body mass, and $23.0{\pm}2.7$ in BMI) in accordance with four types of self-identified thermal tolerance: 1) tolerable of both cold and heat, BCH (N=15); 2) heat tolerable only, HTO (N=118); 3) cold tolerable only, CTO (N=162); and 4) neither cold nor heat tolerable, NCH (N=141). The questionnaire consisted of 55 questions regarding preference to cold or heat environment, seasonal thermoregulatory behaviors including clothing habits, seasonal sleeping environments, health care/physical fitness, and anthropometric items. The results showed that: 1) BCH preferred less auxiliary heating devices, gloves/hats, or thermal underwear in winter and had very few experiences with cold/heat injuries or catching a cold, whereas NCH showed the opposite behavior and experiences as BCH; 2) thermoregulatory behaviors were not symmetrical between summer and winter. Most male students preferred cold beverage/foods to using cooling devices to lower body temperature in summer, whereas auxiliary heating devices were preferred to warm beverage/foods to maintain body temperature in winter; 3) thermoregulatory behaviors of NCH had more items in common with HTO than CTO, while the behaviors of BCH were more closely related to CTO than the behaviors of BCH were more closely related to CTO than HTO. Overall, we confirmed that thermoregulatory behaviors were apparently classified by self-identified thermal tolerance, and such behaviors could be adjusted by improving cold or heat tolerance.

Introduction: Vertigo is one of the common symptoms that we can see often clinically. It is hallucination to motion of oneself or surroundings. Vertigo include not only simple whirling sensation but also leaning or falling down sensation. Particularly in vestibular neuritis, the principal symptoms is dizziness and accompanied by nystagmus, gait imbalance, nausea, vomiting. Cause of vestibular neuritis is inflammatory disease such as common cold. Objective: The aim of this study was to estimate the efficacy of oriental-treatment on vestibular neuritis patient Subjects: We diagnosed one patient who had severe vertigo and gait imbalance as "dizziness retention of phlegm"(담훈) and treat orientally. Conclusion: After oriental-treatment for 15 days, walk balance was improved and no more vertigo was appeared. We could assume that in the vertigo and gait inbalance due to vestibular neuritis, the acupuncture and herbal medicine can be used.
