A Study on The Drying and Hot Water System Using Condensation Waste Heat (응축폐열을 이용한 건조 및 온수장치에 관한 연구)

  • In the normal Refrigeration process, the condensation heat of refrigerant s not been used because of its low-temperature waste heat. To recover the condensation waste heat of R-12 refrigerator, a drying and hot water system was designed and experimented. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. As the temperature a temosphere was increased, the temperature of discharge gas of compressor was increased. And the temperature was $80-84^{\circ}C$ for air condensing type and was $68-71^{\circ}C$ for water condensing type during summer. 2. The condensation waste heat could be obtained up to $50-55^{\circ}C$ of drying heat-source and Hot water in summer. In this case, recovered rate was about $73\%$. And the more temperature of drying Heat-source and Hot water were increased, the more a recovered rate were decreased. 3. When comparing drying characteristics of Agro-products in dryer of waste heat utilization and Hot air, there was no quality difference in products. But drying time of the former was 3 Hours longer than the latter. 4. The condensation waste heat of compressor could be applied into the drying of marine products, the predrying of agro-products and making hot water. And showed high possibility of the waste heat using in low-temperature storage.

A Study on Water Balance in Stationary Load Proton Exchange Membrane(PEM) Fuel Cell Power Generator (고정 부하를 갖는 PEM 연료전지 발전기에 있어서의 수분 평형에 관한 연구)

  • 일반적으로 PEM 연료전지에서는 수분 균형이 시스템의 효율에 결정적으로 영향을 미치기 때문에, 이에 대한 균형(balance)을 잡는 것이 매우 중요하다. 특히, 촉매 층에서 물이 넘치는 익수현상(flooding)이나 건조현상(drying)이 발생하게 되면 연료전지의 효율이 급격하게 저하하므로, 항상 수분의 균형이 잡히도록 시스템을 제어하는 것이 일반적이다. 이 때,수분의 익수현상이나 건조현상은 PEM 연료전지의 용량과 주위의 환경, 즉 온도와 습도에 많은 영향을 받게 된다. 금번 논문에서는 가정용 규모인 3kW급에서 10kW급까지의 PEM 연료전지를 설치하였을 때, 주위의 환경(온도와 습도)이 수분 이동에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 지를 시간에 따라서 시뮬레이션(simulation)한 결과를 보여주고 있다. 결과에서 유입공기의 온도가 $50^{\circ}C$ 이하일 경우, 고정부하가 5kW급 이하이면 대부분이 건조현상이 발생하였으나, 고정부하가 6kW급 이상이 되면 익수현상이 운전시간이 20분 이내에서 발생하였다. 또한 고정부하를 최고 10kW급까지 올린 경우, 유입공기의 온도가 $50^{\circ}C$까지는 익수현상이 발생하였으나 $60^{\circ}C$ 이상인 경우에는 거의 건조현상이 발생함을 알 수 있었다.

  • In this study, a $CO_2$ air-conditioning system was investigated with different types of electrically driven compressors, parallel flow type gas cooler, four-pass type evaporator, internal heat exchanger integrated with accumulator, and electric expansion valve. The experimental study was conducted under various operating conditions (ie., different rotational compressor speeds, air inlet temperatures and air velocity coming into heat exchangers). The experimental results showed the cooling capacity was 3.5kW at $35^{\circ}C$ ambient temperature when the vehicle was idle (ie., the worst condition for cooling off the gas cooler). In terms of performance effect of the compressor, the e-RP model had a slightly better cooling capacity and coefficient of performance than the e-GR model under the same test conditions. An experimental equation for optimum cooling-performance control was also suggested based on the results. A high-pressure control algorithm for the super critical cycle was determined to achieve both maximum cooling performance and efficient energy consumption. The results from the experimental equation coincided with those of previous experimental studies.

External Condensation Heat Transfer Coefficients of R22 Alternative Refrigerants and R134a According to the Saturated Vapor Temperature Change on a Smooth Tube (수평관에서 R22 대체냉매 및 R134a의 포화증기 온도변화에 따른 외부 응축 열전달계수에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, external condensation heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) were measured on a horizontal smooth tube at the saturated vapor temperature of $30^{\circ}C,\;39{\circ}C,\;and\;50^{\circ}C$ for R22, R410A, R407C, and R134a with the wall subcooling of $3\~8^{\circ}C$. The HTCs of all refrigerants are the highest at $30^{\circ}C,\;39{\circ}C,\;and\;50^{\circ}C$ in order. This trend is due to its excellent thermodynamic properties of the liquid phase. The measured data of HTCs were compared with the calculated ones by Nusselt's equation for a smooth tube. Measured HTCs of R22, R134a, R410A are $4.2\~7.5\%$ higher than prediction respectively while those of R407C are $15.6\~28.9\%$ lower than the prediction.

Study on Pressure Drop and Condensation Heat Transfer Characteristics of R-404A in Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger (R-404A를 사용한 용접형 판형 열교환기의 압력강하 및 응축 열전달특성에 관한 연구)

  • Experimental study has been carried out on the characteristics of pressure drop and heat transfer of brazed plate heat exchangers using R-404A. Data are presented for the following range of variables: the mass flux ($20~80kg/m^2s$), chevron angle($20^{circ}C,\;35^{circ}C,\;45^{circ}C$) and inlet pressure of he refrigerant (1.4 and 1.6 MPa). for both subcooled and tow-phase flow, as chevron angle increases, pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient decrease. Condensation hat transfer coefficient and pressure drop was compared with the previously proposed correlations. Among them, Traviss correlation agreed with experimental results within -35~82% for heat transfer coefficient and -73~93% for pressure drop.

  • Laminar flow and heat transfer in a channel with blockages are obtained numerically in a Reynolds-number range of $100{\leq}Re{\leq}400$. A boundary-fitted curvilinear coordinate system is generated for irregular boundary of the physical region, and solutions of Navier-Stokes equation and energy equation are obtained by finite analytic method in the transformed computational domain. The flow separates in downstream of the blockage and the length of separated-flow region increases with Reynolds number. The heat flux is high on the top of the blockages and increase in the heat transfer occurs where the fluid reattaches the wall. Comparison between computed streamlines and experimental flow-visualization is also presented and discussed.

  • This paper focuses on the investigation of the heat transfer phenomena that occur inside the cylindrical tube. The inclination of the tube is adopted as a principal parameter varying from vertical to horizontal. The phase change material employed in this experiment is 99 percent pure n-docosane paraffin($C_{22}$ $H_{46}$). It is found that the amount of solidified mass during a prescribed solidifying period is not sensitive to the inclination of the tube but to the local layer thickness. It is studied that the latent energy is the largest contributor to the total extracted energy. The sensible energy($E_{s1}$, $E_{s2}$, $E_{s3}$) may not be negligible at the large wall-subcooling and initial-liquid-superheating, also at the first step of solidifying.

  • R-410a and R-407c witch have the best potential among the substances being considered as R-22 alternatives were tested as "drop in" refrigerants against a set R-22 baseline tests for comparison. The performance evaluations were carried out in a psychrometric calorimeter test facility using the residential split-type air conditioner under the ARI rating conditions. Other than the use of different lubricant and a hand-operated expansion valve, one of the commercial systems was selected for the experiment. Performance characteristics were measured; compressor power, capacity, VCR, mass flow rate and COP. The tests showed that R-407c can be directly applied to the existing refrigeration system because of its similar vapor pressure and other thermopysical properties with those of R-22. However, it required change to the volume flow rate of compressor in order to achieve the similar performance with R-22 because of its relatively small VCR and capacity. Meanwhile, R-410a has too high a vapor pressure to be applied to the existing system and this feature results in relatively low COP of the system compared to that of R-22. But this could be improved by changing compressor design considering R-410a's relatively high VCR and capacity compared to those of R-22.

Performance Evaluation of R22 Alternative Refrigerants According to Temperature Variations of Evaporator and Condenser (증발기와 응축기 온도변화에 따른 R22 대체냉매의 성능평가)

  • In this study, performance of 2 pure hydrocarbons and 3 mixtures was measured in an attempt to substitute R22 under 3 different temperature conditions. The mixtures were composed of R1270(propylene), R290(propane) and R152a. They were tested in a refrigerating bench tester with a hermetic rotary compressor The test bench provided about 3.5 kW capacity and water and water/glycol mixture were employed as the secondary heat transfer fluids. All tests were conducted under the same external conditions resulting in the average saturation temperatures of $7^{\circ}C/45^{\circ}C$ and $-7^{\circ}C/41^{\circ}C$ and $-21^{\circ}C/28^{\circ}C$ in the evaporator and condenser, respectively. Test results show that the coefficient of performance (COP) of these refrigerants is up to 11.54% higher than that of R22 in all temperature conditions. Compressor discharge temperatures were reduced by $14{\sim}31^{\circ}C$ with these fluids. There was no problem with mineral oil since the mixtures were mainly composed of hydrocarbons. The amount of charge was reduced up to 58% as compared to R22. Overall, these fluids provide good performance with reasonable energy savings without any environmental problem and thus can be used as long term alternatives for residential air-conditioning and heat pumping application.

  • Free cooling system is used to reduce energy consumption of cooling system. Free cooling system is consisted of cooling group and dry-cooler in which heat exchange of chilled water and out air is conducted. Although this system has an excellent energy saving effect in place having cooling load regularly, data or material of design for free cooling system is lacked. In this study, characteristics analysis of free cooling system is conducted through software HYSYS with changing some facts. The main result is following as : Dry-cooler capacity is influenced by out air temperature, required chilled water temperature and LMTD(Logarithmic Mean Temperature Difference) of heat exchanger. As out air temperature is more low, dry-cooler capacity become increased. in addition, as required chilled water temperature is more high and LMTD is more low, the out air temperature range is widened for using dry-cooler. If out air temperature is below $0^{\circ}C$, antifreeze need to be used because freeze and burst can be occurred. In case of South Korea, antifreeze of 34% of ethylene glycol concentration is proper. When compressor load of R22, R134a and R407C is compared, considering environmental regulation and energy consumption, R134a is best working fluid.
