In this paper, the problem of minimum-time trajectory planning of a robot manipulator with an arbitrary path is dealt. As for a straight path, the trajectory planning can be done without difficulty since the path is easily parameterized by its length. However, this is not the case for a non-straight path. In this paper, by noting that the others' joint angles and velocities are determined if one joint's angle and velocity are known, we reduce the problem of trajectory planning on a non-straight path to one in the 2-dimensional space of one joint's angle and velocity. Then, by applying the dynamic programming, we achieve the minimum-time trajectory planning. A simulation is done for verifying this.

A new local path planning algorithm for free-ranging robots is proposed. Considering that a laser range finder has the excellent resolution with respect to angular and distance measurements, a simple local path planning algorithm is achieved by a directional weighting method for obtaining a heading direction of nobile robot. The directional weighting method decides the heading direction of the mobile robot by estimating the attractive resultant force which is obtained by directional weighting function times range data, and testing whether the collision-free path and the copen parthway conditions are satisfied. Also, the effectiveness of the established local path planning algorithm is estimated by computer simulation in complex environment.

Global path planning for autonomous driving of unmanned ground vehicle is essential. When setting global path planning, its accuracy and effectiveness is increased if useful information such as terrain type of driving route has been reflected on global path planning. As a method to reflect the terrain type, there is a method to perform global path planning by applying the weight to each terrain type. At this time, how to assign appropriate weights corresponding to the terrain type is more important than anything. In this paper, we proposed a method to determine the weight for terrain type that may affect the results of global path planning. Moreover, we presented effective operation method and design results(GUI) to check the possibility of the use of the proposed method.
The most important thing for navigation of a mobile robot is to find the most suitable path and avoid the obstacles in the static and dynamic environment. This paper presents a method to search the optimal path in start space extended to time domain with considering a velocity and a direction of moving obstacles. A modified version of $A^*$ algorithm has been applied for path planning in this work and proposed a method of path search to avoid a collision with moving obstacle in space-tim domain with a velocity and an orientation of obstacles. The velocity and the direction for moving obstacle are assumed as linear form. The simulation result shows that a mobile robot navigates safely among moving obstacles of constant linear velocity. This work can be applied for not only a moving robot but also a legged humanoid robot and all fields where the path planning is required.

In this thesis, we construct the microrobot succor system and navigate the real-time path planning and visual tracking of each robot. The system consists robots, vision system and a host computer. Because the robots are free-ranging mobile robot, it is needed to make and gallow the path. The path is planned and controlled by a host computer, ie. Supervisory control system. In path planning, we suggest a cost function which consists of three terms. One is the smoothness of the path, another is the total distance or time, and the last one is to avoid obstacles. To minimize the cost function, we choose the parametric cubic spline and update the coefficients in real time. We perform the simulation for the path planing and obstacle avoidance and real experiment for visual tracking

This paper proposes a hermite spline based D* algorithm for effective path planning of mobile robot to improve the detecting speed. In conventional path planning research, a robot is supposed to pass through predetermined centers of grid partitions of area. However it doesn't guarantee the optimal path during its navigation. In addition, a robot is hard to avoid obstacles effectively. The proposed algorithm in this paper makes use of stochastic characteristics of nonholonomic mobile robot and estimation of shortest path to curvature movement of the robot. The performance evaluation of the improved spline D* algorithm performed through simulation shows its effectiveness. Moreover, the experiment verifies that a robot can find the shortest path by building the curve paths while it is moving on the path in spline.
Unmanned ground vehicles(UGVs) are expected to play a key role in the future army. These UGVs would be used for weapons platforms. logistics carriers, reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition in the rough terrain. Most of path planning methodologies for UGVs offer an optimal or sub-optimal shortest-path in a 20 space. However, those methodologies do not consider increment and reduction effects of relative distance when a UGV climbs up or goes down in the slope of rough terrain. In this paper, we propose a novel path planning methodology using the modified distance transform algorithm. Our proposed path planning methodology employs two kinds of map. One is binary obstacle map. The other is the DEM. With these two maps, the modified distance transform algorithm in which distance between cells is increased or decreased by weighting function of slope is suggested. The proposed methodology is verified by various simulations on the randomly generated DEM and obstacle map.
Unlike a typical small-sized robot navigating in a free space, an autonomous vehicle has to travel in a designated road which has lanes to follow and traffic rules to obey. High-Definition (HD) maps, which include road markings, traffic signs, and traffic lights with high location accuracy, can help an autonomous vehicle avoid the need to detect such challenging road surroundings. With space constraints and a pre-built HD map, a new type of path planning algorithm can be conceived as a substitute for conventional grid-based path planning algorithms, which require substantial planning time to cover large-scale free space. In this paper, we propose an obstacle-avoiding, cost-based planning algorithm in a continuous space that aims to pursue a globally-planned path with the help of HD map information. Experimentally, the proposed algorithm is shown to outperform other state-of-the-art path planning algorithms in terms of computation complexity in a typical urban road setting, thereby achieving real-time performance and safe avoidance of obstacles.

A new algorithm for planning a collision-free path is developed based on linear prametric curve. In this paper robot is assumed to a point, and two linear parametric curve is used to construct a path connecting start and goal point, in which single intermediate connection point between start and goal point is considered. The intermediate connection point is set in polar coordinate(${\theta}{\delta}$) , and the interference between path and obstacle is mapped into CPS(connection point space), which is defined a CWS GM(circular work space geometry mapping). GM of all obstacles in workspace creates overlapping images of obstacle in CPS(Connection Point Space). The GM for all obstacles produces overlapping images of obstacle in CPS. The empty area of CPS that is not occupied by obstacle images represents collision-free paths in Euclidian Space. A GM based on connection point in elliptic coordinate(${\theta}{\delta}$) is also developed in that the total length of path is depend only on the variable .delta.. Hence in EWS GM(elliptic work space geometry mapping), increasing .delta. and finding the value of .delta. for collision-free path, the shortest path can be searched without carring out whole GM. The GM of obstacles expersses all possible collision-free path as empty spaces in CPS. If there is no empty space available in CPS, it indicates that path planning is not possible with given number of connection points, i.e. path planning is failed, and it is necessary to increase the number of connection point. A general case collision-free path planning is possible by appling GM to configuration space obstacles. Simulation of GM of obstacles in Euclidian space is carried out to measure performance of algorithm and the resulting obstacle images are reported.
We propose a new method for shortest path planning of mobile robots. The topological information of the graph is obtained by thinning method to generate the collision-free path of robot. And the travelling path is determined through hierarchical planning stages. The first stage generates an initial path by use of Dijkstra's algorithm. The second stage then generates the final path by use of dynamic programming (DP). The DP adjusts the intial path to reduce the total travelling distance of robot. Simulation results are presented to verify the performance of the proposed method.
