Electron beam weldability of 9%Ni steels has been investigated to apply EBW to the construction of LNG storage tank. While mechanical properties of welded joints were satisfied by ASTM specification, impact energy of weld metal was as low as 27 - 55J at $-196^{\circ}C$. As the result of Ni wires inserted at the joint to be welded, Ni content of weld metal was increased to about 10%, resulting on the improvement of impact toughness to 110 ~ 120J at $-196^{\circ}C$. This improvement of impact toughness in weld metal was due to the formation of tempered martensite and retained austenite. Above results indicate that, if Ni content of weld metal was increased about 10% by Ni wires addition, electron beam welded 9%Ni steels weld metal had sufficient impact energy necessary for a LNG storage tank.

This research was conducted to examine the effects of night interruption (NI) at different times on vegetative growth and flowering in Salvia splendens 'Salsa'. Plants were grown in a growth chamber under 9-h photoperiod (short-day, SD) or 9-h photoperiod plus NI with light intensity at $3-5{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ photosynthetic photon flux. The NI was applied at 18:00-22:00 HR (NI18), 22:00-02:00 HR (NI22), or 02:00-06:00 HR (NI02). The net photosynthetic rate under NI18, NI22, and NI02 increased by 0.33, 0.16, and $0.13{\mu}mol{\cdot}CO_2{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$, respectively, during the NI period. Dry weight, plant height, and the number of nodes under NI were not significantly different from those of the plants under SD. However, flowering was earlier by approximately 9.8 days, and the number of flowers increased to 138.7 in NI02 compared to 36.4 flowers under SD at 17 weeks after the treatment. Our results indicate that NI02 was the most effective treatment in promoting flowering. Although vegetative growth of salvia was not increased in response to the increased net photosynthesis, flowering was promoted. Under NI18, NI22, and NI02 treatments, 77.8, 88.9, and 100.0% of salvia plants flowered within 8 weeks, whereas 44.4% of the plants flowered within the same time under SD conditions.
Although the mileage of electric vehicles can be increased based on the excellent energy density of the LiNi0.9Co0.05Mn0.05O2, it is known that the reason for limiting its use is the low lifespan and poor surface stability due to the structural deformation of the LiNi0.9Co0.05Mn0.05O2. To improve the structural stability of LiNi0.9Co0.05Mn0.05O2, electrochemical performance is improved by La coating on the surface. La-modified LiNi0.9Co0.05Mn0.05O2 shows an initial capacity of 210.6 mAh/g, a capacity retention rate of 89.9 % after 50 cycles, and a retention rate of 52.5% at 6.0 C. These are superior performances than the pristine sample, because the structural stability of the LiNi0.9Co0.05Mn0.05O2 cathode is improved by the La coating.

1H NMR spectra of pyridine, α-, β-, and γ-picoline coordinated to the paramagnetic heteropolyanion [Ni3(PW9O34)2]12- (P2Ni3) are reported. NMR lines are assigned to [Ni3(ptl)n(PW9O34)2]12- (n=1, 2 or 3; ptl=pyridine-type ligand) on the basis of their [P2Ni3]/[ptl] dependence. The formation constants for γ-picoline complexes at 25 ℃ are K1=80, K2=610, and K3=190 L mol-1. The monopicoline complex has greater affinity for γ-picoline than P2Ni3. A degradation product, [Ni2(WO2)(PW9O34)2]12-, was also identified at low pH by measuring the NMR spectrum of pyridine coordinated to it. The isotropic NMR shifts come mainly from the contact interaction due to σ-electron delocalization.

Characteristics of ohmic Ni/Si/Ni contacts to n-type 4H-SiC are investigated systematically. The ohmic contacts were formed by annealing Ni/Si/Ni sputtered sequentially The annealings were performed at 950℃ using RTP in vacuum ambient and N₂ ambient, respectively. The specific contact resistivity(p/sub c/), sheet resistance(R/sub s/), contact resistance (R/sub c/) transfer length(L/sub T/) were calculated from resistance(R/sub T/) versus contact spacing(d) measurements obtained from TLM(transmission line method) structure. While the resulting measurement values of sample annealed at vacuum ambient were p/sub c/ = 3.8×10/sup -5/Ω㎠, R/sub c/ = 4.9 Ω and R/sub T/ = 9.8 Ω, those of sample annealed at N₂ ambient were p/sub c/ = 2.29×10/sup -4/Ω㎠, R/sub c/ = 12.9 Ω and R/sub T/ = 25.8 Ω. The physical properties of contacts were examined using XRD 3nd AES. The results showed that nickel silicide was formed on SiC and Ni was migrated into SiC. This result indicates that Ni/Si/Ni ohmic contact would be useful in high performance electronic devices.
Nickel silicides ($Ni_5$Si$_2$, Ni$_2$Si and NiSi) have been synthesized by mechanical alloying (MA) of Ni-27.9at.9at%Si, Ni-33.3at% and Ni-50.0at% powder mixtures, respectively. From in situ thermal analysis, eash citical milling period for the formation of the three phases was observed to be 40.2, 34.9 and 57.5 min, at which there was a rapid increase in temperature. This indicates that rapid, self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) reactions were observed to produce the three phases during room-temperature high-energy ball milling of elemental powders. Each Ni silicide, Ni and Si, however, coexisted for an extended milling time even after the critical milling period. The powders mechanically alloyed after the critical period showed the rapid increase in microhardness. The Hv values were found to be higher than 1000kgf/mm$^2$. The formation of nickel silicides by mechanical alloying and the relevant reaction rates appeared to be influenced by the critical milling period and the heat of formation of the products involved ($Ni_5$Si$_2$$\rightarrow$-43.1kJ/mol.at., Ni$_2$Si$\rightarrow$-47.6kJ/mol.at., NiSi$\rightarrow$-42.4kJ/mol.at).
Rates and equilibriurn of complex formation between $Ni^{2+}$ and D-penicillamine have been investigated in aqueous solutions. Kinetic study on the complex formation were performed in the pH range of 8∼9 by the use of pressure-jump technique. D-Penicillamine coordinates to the nickel(II) ion utilizing sulfur and nitrogen as donor atoms in the high pH condition (pH 9.2). However, in the pH range of 8.25∼9.07, the stepwise stability constant becomes drastically reduced and the undissociated mercapto group does not participate in bonding. The rate-determining step of the complexation reaction is found to be the release of a water molecule from the inner-coordination sphere of $Ni^{2+}$ ion.
The interdiffusion characteristics of Cu-plug/Capping Layer/NiSi contacts were investigated. Capping layers were deposited on Ni/Si to form thermally-stable NiSi and then were utilized as diffusion barriers between Cu/NiSi contacts. Four different capping layers such as Ti, Ta, TiN, and TaN with varying thickness from 20 to 100 nm were employed. When Cu/NiSi contacts without barrier layers were furnace-annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ for 40 min., Cu diffused to the NiSi layer and formed $Cu_3Si$, and thus the NiSi layer was dissociated. But for Cu/Capping Layers/NiSi, the Cu diffusion was completely suppressed for all cases. But Ni was found to diffuse into the Cu layer to form the Cu-Ni(30at.%) solid solution, regardless of material and thickness of capping layers. The source of Ni was attributed to the unreacted Ni after the silicidation heat-treatment, and the excess Ni generated by the transformation of $Ni_2Si$ to NiSi during long furnace-annealing.
