The purpose of this paper is to estimate the impact of credit rationing on the amount of trade credit used by farmers in Vietnam. This study employs a survey data collected through direct interviews with heads of 1,065 rice households randomly selected out of provinces and city in the Mekong River Delta (MRD). In each province or city, the village with the largest area of land devoted to rice production from the district with the largest area of land devoted to rice production was picked up for survey. In each village, 200 rice farmers were randomly chosen for interview. Based on a probit model and a semi-parametric propensity score matching (PSM) estimator while controlling socio-demographic traits of rice farmers, the estimated results show that non-credit rationed farmers use less trade credit to finance production compared to their credit rationed counterparts. Moreover, the amount of trade credit used by farmers decreases as the degree of credit rationing drops. This paper provides evidence of the substitutive relationship between bank credit and trade credit. It also implicitly suggests that banks can drive trade creditors out of the market if they manage to solve the problem of information asymmetry and transaction cost.

House ownership is considered as one of the important pre-conditions for marriage in China. Given that gender imbalance is a prominent issue in the country, competition for marriage partners might motivate males to look for a house and probably bigger and more expensive house. This is believed to have caused house price hikes in recent years. This study aims to investigate the impact of gender imbalance on house prices using data from 30 provinces in China for the 2000-2017 period. The results based on the generalized method of moments (GMM) estimations show that house price is strongly influenced by gender imbalance. However, there is no evidence to support differential effects across eastern and mid-western regions. One potential reason is that pre-marriage house ownership has become a common culture for the whole community and therefore it does not vary significantly across regions. There are several important policy implications. Firstly, the issues should be addressed by the policymakers at national level and not regional level. Secondly, the government should intervene to bring back gender ratio to its normal level. Finally, the government should limit the number of houses people can buy and increase the supply of houses in the market.

The paper identifies the enablers (drivers) and inhibitors (barriers) influencing e-customs implementation in Vietnam (known as a developing country with a lower technological environment) along with determining the impact of e-customs on firm performance. The survey was conducted with the representatives (managers) of firms in five cities and provinces dominating Vietnam's international trade. The data was analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings show two significant drivers (enablers) - relative advantages and national culture, while compatibility and ease of use are the barriers. Previous studies showed that cultural dimensions related to 'uncertainty acceptance' and 'individualism' encourage innovation; however, this paper demonstrates that 'uncertainty avoidance' and 'collectivism' promote e-customs deployment in Vietnam. Previously, Vietnamese culture was known for scoring high on cultural dimensions related to 'power distance' and 'short-term orientation'. However, today, as an emerging country, Vietnamese has switched to 'low distance' and 'long-term orientation', especially in terms of e-customs innovation. Additionally, the paper also emphasized that e-customs implementation had a positive influence on firm performance in Vietnam. Based on the results of the paper, policy-makers can devise essential solutions to enhance e-customs implementation as well as managers of firms can set-up strategies to adapt to the modernized environment.
Leptotrombidium scutellare is one of the 6 main vectors of scrub typhus in China. It has been found in more than 15 provinces of China. Especially in Yunnan, it was found to be mainly distributed in some mountainous areas with high altitude, low temperature and low precipitation. Rodents and some other small mammals were the most common hosts of L. scutellare. To date, more than 40 host species of L. scutellare have been recorded with very low host specificity, and the main hosts varied in different geographical regions. L. scutellare had a strong resistance against the cold environment, and the temperature and humidity were 2 important factors affecting its growth and development. Among different individuals of their rodent hosts, L. scutellare mites often showed an aggregated distribution pattern, which reflected the interspecific cooperation of the mites. The chromosome karyotype of L. scutellare was 2n=16 and all the 8 pairs of chromosomes were short rod-shaped with metacentric or sub-metacentric types. The isozyme spectrum supported that L. scutellare, L. deliense and L. rubellum were in the same species group. Based on the natural infection, experimental transmission and epidemiological evidence, L. scutellare has been eventually confirmed as the second major vector of scrub typhus in China, which is second only to L. deliense.
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province has implemented a self-governing environmental impact assessment system (Jeju-EIAS) in recognition of its autonomy. In this study, the institutional features of Jeju-EIAS were examined by analyzing the development projects whose consultation under Jeju-EIAS were completed from 1994 to 2019. The consultation procedure of Jeju-EIAS, such as the actual operation of Review Committee for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), the consent of the provincial council, and the regular follow-up activities for the implementation of EIA consultations, has been implemented differently from those of other metropolitan cities and provinces. Under Jeju-EIAS, types of development projects subject to consultation on EIA also take into account local conditions, and include the construction of aquarium basin and building. In addition, provisions concerning the scale of development projects is strengthened above the Korean Environmental Impact Assessment Act (EIA Act).
Purpose: Research on attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) plays an important role in helping provinces attract more FDI projects. However, with local competition, FDI enterprises also have to consider their investment. This study evaluates the provincial competitiveness to attract FDI in Thai Nguyen province, a province of Vietnam. In which provincial distribution of competitiveness is measured through nine indicators. Research design, data, and methodology: The study collects data (FDI and the provincial competitiveness index) from 2006 to 2020. The study uses Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) to text the impact of distribution of competitivenes on foreign direct investment. With time-series, the ARDL is suitable for data analysis. Results: The regression results indicate that the competition index of market entry and informal costs negatively impact attracting FDI into the province; The human resource training quality index has a positive effect on FDI. The results show that FDI enterprises pay much attention to business establishment procedures, hidden costs, and quality of human resources in the province. Conclusions: At the same time, in terms of practice, the results of this study, the authors also offer solutions to help improve the ability to attract FDI into Thai Nguyen province. The significant provincial competitiveness indicators should be taken into account for improvement first.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relations among professionalism, organizational commitment and job satisfaction, and to the investigate the influencing factors of organizational commitment and job satisfaction among clinical nurses. Methods: The participants were 386 nurses sampled from Seoul and Gyeonggi provinces. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data, and the data were analyzed by applying t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression with SAS 8.12. Results: A positive correlation existed among professionalism, organizational commitment and job satisfaction. Major factors that influenced organizational commitment were job satisfaction, religion, educational status, and a sense of calling (one of the subcategories of professionalism), which explained 54.1%. Major factors that affected job satisfaction were organizational commitment, educational status, and the subcategories of professionalism including a sense of calling, a service to the public, self-regulation and professional autonomy, which explained 60.8%. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, the professionalism is one of the critical factors linked to organizational commitment and job satisfaction among clinical nurses. In order to promote organizational commitment and job satisfaction among nurses, an appropriate practical support system, which is applicable to diverse conditions, should be developed and applied in nursing.
To investigate the genotypic diversity of the porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome viruses (PRRSV) in Korea, we examined 92 clinical samples from three provinces by RT-PCR and a nested PCR, and the complete open-reading frame 7 (ORF 7) sequences of 15 samples selected from 72 PCR-positive specimens were analyzed. When we compared nucleotide (amino acid) sequences of 80 isolates from Korea and overseas countries, the sequences of 7 samples belonged to North American (NA)-genotype, and those of 8 samples, to European (EU)-genotype. The nucleotide (amino acid) identities between two genotypes were 63.7% (59.8%) to 65.1% (63.1%). When compared with NA prototype VR-2332, the 7 strains of NA-genotype shared 89.8% (93.6%) to 91.2% (96.0%) identity of nucleotide (amino acid) sequence. The 8 strains of EU-type shared 93.6% (92.3%) to 94.3% (93.8%) identity of nucleotide (amino acid) sequence as compared to EU prototype Lelystad. In phylogenetic tree analysis by neighbor-joining method, all of the 8 EU-type strains were clustered into group 4 distinct from ED-prototype Lelystad (group 1). In NA-genotype, 24 domestic isolates reported previously and the 7 strains of NA-type determined in this study were clustered into group 1, while US prototype VR 2332 was classified into different group (group 2). These results suggest that emergence of EU-genotype and the dual-infection of NA- and EU-genotypes may be prevalent in the pig farms in Korea. The high degree of genetic diversity of field PRRSVs should be taken into consideration for control and preventive measures.

Weed species investigated on the roadways of Kyungnam and Kyungpook provinces in September, 1989 were 75 species in 31 families and 89 species in 31 families, respectively. Five weed community types were observed on the roadway of Kyungnam province, namely, Kummerowis striata, Humulus japonicum-Artermisia princeps, Digitaria sanguiralis-Eleusine indica, Artermisia princeps-Degitarin sanguinalis and Digilaria sanguinalis-Setaria viridis. In contrast, Kyungpook province had six community types which were Eleusine indica, Humulus japonicum-Commelina communis, Ihgitaria sanguinalis-Eeusine indica, Digitaria sanguinalis-Artermisia princeps, Dzgitaria sanguinalis-Setaria viridis and Setaria viridis community types. Ten major weed species on the roadway of Kyungnam province were Dtgitaria sanguinalis(23.3%). Setaria viradis(8.3%). Edeusine indica(7.3%). Kummerowis striata(6.0%). Humulus japonicum(5.2%), Phaseolus nipponensis(3.5%), Echinochloa crusgalli (2.9%) and Imperata cyliudrica(2.0%). On the roadway of Kyungpook province, ten major weeds were Digitaria sanguinalis (25.4%). Setaria viridis (10.5%). Eleusine indica(9.0%). Humulus japonicum(8.6%). Eragrostis fernsginea(6.5%), Artermisia princeps(3.8%), commelia communis(2.2%), Irexis dentata(1.8%), Equisetum arvense(1.8%) and Kummerowis striata (1.7%).
Nationwide weed survey of paddy rice field conducted in 1981 and 1971 was compared and determined major dominant weed community types distributed by province. Based on the similarity coefficients between 1971 and 1981 the floristic composition based on the degree of dominance was greatly dissimilar while kind of weed flora were not much differed. Degree of dominance were concentrated to perennial weeds in 1981 while these were at animal weeds in 1971. The moat important 10 weed species and their dominance in 1981 were Monochoria vaginalis Presl.(22.2%), Sagittaria pygmaea Miquel(17.5%), S. trifolia L.(9.0%), Poramogeton distinctus Benn.(9.0%), Cyperus serotinus Rottb.(8.5%), Rotala indica Koehne(6.0%), Aneilema japonica Kunth(4.4%), Lindernia procumbens Philcox(3.9%), Eleocharis kuroguwai Ohwi(3.4%) and Ludwigia proarrara Roxb(3.0%), respectively while these for 1971 were R. indica(34.5%), Eleocharia acicularis Roem, et Schult (11.9%), M. vaginalis(11.1%), Cyperua difformis L.(8.7%), Echinochloa crus-galli Beauv.(6.9%), L. procumbens(3.3%), P. distinctus(3.1%), A. Japonica (2.4%), E. kuroguwai(1.8%) and P. hydropiper(1.8%), respectively. Weed occurrence was also closely related with soil type, cropping pattern and cultural practices. Particularly, the occurrence of P. distincrus was negatively correlated with the degree of land utilization. Weed community types dafined by two-dimensional ordination analysis were 11 for Jeonnam province, 9 for Gyeoaggi, Gangweon, Chungbuk and Gyeongnam provinces, 8 for Jeonbuk and Gyeongbuk provinces, 7 for Chungnam province and 4 for Jeju province, respectively.
