Objectives This study aimed to report significant improvement of fibromyalgia patient who was diagnosed with 'Taeeumin esophagus-cold lung-dry symptomatology' based on Sasang Constitutional Medicine. Methods The patient was treated with herbal medicine. To evaluate the results of this treatment, the patient assessed pain of Fibromyalgia by using the Numeral Rating Scale (NRS) and American College of Rheumatology Preliminary Diagnostic Criteria (ACR, 2010). Results After 64 days of treatment, the NRS of pain reduced from 6 to 2. There was no difference before and after treatment with Widespread Pain Index 7, but Symptom Severity scale score decreased from 8 to 4. Headache, dizziness, and chilling symptoms were also improved. Conclusions The patient showed a significant improvement of Fibromyalgia and accessory symptoms without any side effects, who was treated with herbal medicine.

1. Objectives Theoretically Healthy Condition of four constitution is based on intact state of four fundamental factors - digestion, urination, perspiration, defecation. Each one of these four factors is specifically related to its respective constitution. We made SHI(Sasangin Health Index) 10 items from four factors, and examined clinical efficacy of the four factors as index of health status in four constitution. 2. Methods and Procedures We offered QSCCII, SHI and SF-36 questionnaires to adults who had a periodic medical examination. 233 adults were classified to one of four constitution. We compared means of 8 scale scores of SF-36, and computed the correlation coefficient between 8 scale scores of SF-36 and 10 item scores of SHI in four constitution. 3. Results In Soyangin, stool volume and frequency are weakly correlated with health status(P<0.05). In Soeumin, appetite is weakly correlated with health status(P<0.05). In Taeumin, there is no correlation between perspiration and health status. 4. Conclusions 2 factors - digestion, defecation - had clinical efficacy as index of health status.

Objective : The aim of this study is to investigate current status of Sasang constitutional medicine researches and to provide source in setting a development strategy and making a policy on the Sasang constitutional medicine. Method : This study analyzed trends in research as represented in the 142 articles of Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine in the field of Sasang constitution medicine from 2007 to 2010. Result : The main themes of studies were Sasang constitution clinical study (68, 47%) and developing instruments for measuring diagnosis (48, 33%), especially pulse diagnosis (25, 17%). Genetic researches and trends studies on Sasang constitutional medicine were respectively 17 (12%) and 8 (5%). As a result, Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine established Sasang clinical information bank, and discovered clinical character of Sasang constitution to develope various diagnosis tools include constitution survey form and pulse diagnosis instrument. Genetic researches also discover constitution related genes such as FTO and MC4R, and explore association between heredity and Sasang constitution. Conclusion : The above mentioned achievements of Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine were limited to diagnosis process, unquestionably studies for reproducibility and authenticity of constitution diagnosis were important mission of Sasang constitutional medicine. However, to develop the advance of Sasang constitutional medicine, not only constitution diagnosis but also constitutional treatment studies should be conducted.

Objectives This study aimed to provide a basis for treatment of taeeum person by analysing published case reports and case series in Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine.Methods We reviewed case reports and case series of taeeum person in the Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine from 2006 to 2015.Results Of the forty papers, reporting 182 cases of taeeum person. Thirty-five papers reported 6 types of Sasang Constitutional Medicine pattern. A total of 10 types of interventions were described, of which herbal medicine (100%) was most frequently used. A total of 30 types of outcome measeure were used in papers, for which symptom change (79.2%) was most frequently used. A total of 8 types of diagnosis criteria were used in 38 papers.Conclusions A sufficient number of clinical studies are warranted to provide a clinical evidence for treatment of taeeum person.

1. Objectives This is a case of refractory ascites due to hepatocellular carcinoma treated with Sasang Constitutional Medication. Refractory ascites, which did not respond to diuretics, was improved with Jeoryeongchajeonja-tang. 2. Methods We recorded the patient's abdominal circumference, body weight and urine output daily. We also investigated the TTKG(transtubular potassium gradient) values 3 times during the treatment course. 3. Results the TTKG value of the patient was siginificantly decreased. TTKG values before administration of Jeotyeongchajeonja-tang were 8.41, 10.82, respectively and 4.25 after administration of Jeotyeongchajeonja-tang. 4. Conclusions We guess that Jeoryeongchajeonja-tang functions as an aldosterone antagonist or increases spironolactone activity through interaction between Jeotyeongchajeonja-tang and spironolactone. But the mechanism of Jeotyeongchajeonja-tang is not clear, so we need more clinical study of refractory ascites improved with Jeotyeongchajeonja-tang and biological study of interaction between Jeotyeongchajeonja-tang and spironolactone.

1. Objects: This case study reports a liver injury in treatment of constipation with Yeoldahanso-tang plus Rheum rhabarbarum. 2. Methods: The patient's subjective symptoms and the laboratory data including aspartate transaminase(AST), alanine transaminase(ALT), alkaline phosphatase(ALP), and gamma($\gamma$)-glutamyl transpeptidase(GGT) were observed before and after liver injury. We used the Roussel Uclaf Causality Assessment Method(RUCAM) scale in order to find out whether if Yeoldahanso-tang plus Rheum rhabarbarum was related with the liver injury. 3. Results: The patient's AST and ALT were elevated more than twice after a 3week administration period of herbal medicine. After discontinuation of the herbal medicine and administration of hepatic protective medication, AST and ALT decreased. The patient's general condition improved during hospitalization. The RUCAM score was estimated at 8. 4. Conclusions: This case is presented to bring more attention to the toxicity of herbal medicine.

Introduction The aim of this study was to report significant improvement of Dyshidrosis(Pompholyx) patient who was diagnosed with 'Soyangin chest-bind symptomatic pattern' based on Sasang Constitutonal medicine. Methods The patient was treated with herbal medicine, acupuncture, as well as western medicine. To evaluate the results of this treatment, the patient assessed discomfort of dyshidrosis by using Numeral Rating Scale(NRS), percentage(%) and we assessed severity of dyshidrosis by using Dyshidrotic Eczema Area and Severity Index(DASI). Results At the time of admission, the degree of discomfort in the dyshidrosis symptoms was NRS 8 and the severity of dyshidrosis was DASI 16(moderate). After the treatment, her symptoms was improved(NRS 0, DASI 0). Sleep, digestion and defecation condition were also improved. Discussion The patient who had frequent recurrence showed a significant improvement of dyshidrosis and accessory symptoms without any side effects, who was treated with Hyeongbangdojeok-san, acupuncture and western medicine.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the usefulness of some iris parameters in predicting the 8 constitution Methods: From November 2012 to February 2018, we retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 171 patients who were visited to the Korean Oriental Clinic. We conducted a stepwise binary logistic regression analysis to find the association between Iris parameters and 8 constitutional Medicine. Results: Automic Nerve Wreath Ration (ANWR) was larger and toxic radii was longer in Earth and Wood constitutions than Metal and water constitution. ANWR was larger and pupil are ratio(PAR) was smaller in Wood constitutions than Earth constitutions. And others did not show significant results. Conclusions: This study suggests that the relationship between some of the iris parameters and 8 constitution was significant, but more accurate follow-up study is needed.

1. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to find out the growth pattern according to Sasang Constitution. 2. Methods: One hundred forty seven students in the first grade of high school were classified into three groups(So-yangin, So-eumin, Tae-eumin) by QSCC II. We obtained the growth distance curve and growth rate, annual increment based on the Health Record according to Sasang Constitution. Health Record ranged from the first grade of the elementary school to the first grade of high school. And we calculated the Body mass index(BMI) and Mid-parential height(MPH). 3. Results: In case of Male, So-eumin and Tae-eumin showed linear growth patterns, but So-yangin showed rapid growth from 13 to 14. In case of Female, all of the groups showed similar growth pattern. But Tae-eumin showed a more growth from 8 to 9 than So-yangin groups. 4. Conclusions: Growth Pattern seemed to be different according to Sasang Constitution.

Hiccups is one of the omnipresent phenomenon occurring in everyone. Most episodes are time-limited, but, sometimes, they become intractable and protracted for a long time. In most cases, they are idiopathic. But, sometimes there are cases which have diverse kinds of underlying disorders. In this study, the author reports a case of idiopathic and persistent hiccups. He recently encountered a 64 year old male patient with intractable and persistent hiccups for over two weeks. By using the method of 8 Constitutional Acupuncture therapy and herbal medication( Hyangsapyeungwutang) regarding him as RENOTONIA. After 7days of treatment, the symptoms disappeared.
