Abnormal illness behavior in patients with somatoform disorders were known formed by their traditional disease concepts and somatization-prone socio-cultural factors. The authors evaluated the characteristics of abnormal illness behavior in patients with somatoform disorders(who had somatization) by using abnormal illness behavior questionnaire. Methods : 29 somatoform disorders(SD) and 57 disease controls were compared by clinical characteristics, severity of pain, state anxiety(by Spielberger's State & Trait Anxiety Inventory), depression(by Beck's Depression Inventory) and level of psychosocial stess(by DSM-III-R). The illness behavior was measured by illness Behavior Questionnaire(IBQ). Results SD group had longer period of somatic symptoms with less severity in pain. The degree of anxiety and depression were higher in SB compared with controls. However, the degree of psychosocial stress was almost same between both groups. In IBQ, SD showed higher scores in general hypochondriasis, disease conviction, and affective disturbance subscales compared to control group. Conclusion: High disease conviction and hypochondriacal nature revealed by IBQ seemed to be a role in making somatization by way of somatic focusing and hypervigilance. And those tended to lead patients visit hospital frequently and report various somatic complaints. Evaluating abnormal illness behavior in somatoform disorders would be not only helpful in understanding the natures of somatoform disorders but also useful differentiating SD with other psychiatric conditions.

This research analyzed the effect of lessons with the GIS application as an alternative scheme of teaching and learning of geography in elementary school. Two classes in the third grade at Y elementary school in Andong were selected to conduct lessons on 'The Landscape of My Hometown' from March 6 through June 30, 2006. In the experimental class, the lessons were conducted with the GIS application; while, in a comparative class, the lessons were carried with usual teaching and learning method. To find out the effect of lessons with the GIS application, differences of spatial cognition of students were figured out between groups, and before and after lessons. The difference between the spatial concept development stages and materials on the textbook discouraged students to pursue their learning as well as made them hard to achieve the goals of lessons. The GIS application had been suggested as an alternative teaching and learning method to overcome the difference; however, it has been hard to find any empirical research to verify the effect of the lessons with GIS application in elementary school. The ability of spatial cognition of the third graders at an elementary school was very low as the result of that curricula in the first and second grades dealt with sketch maps as teaching and learning media. The map learning of third grader on the transitional stage would play the critical role to develop the spatial cognition ability in the future. The field study contributing to developing spatial cognition ability would not be conducted at school. It was required to have the alternative learning schemes such as lessons with GIS application. The lessons with GIS application verified effect of GIS application as the alternative method. The GIS application helped students to recognize landmarks, directions and distance effectively as well as reduced the spatial cognition difference among individuals and/or groups.
This study was conducted in order to obtain the informatin of the histochemical changes in each of 6 segments of the epididymal ducts in 32 Korean native male goats. The male goats were examined, dividing into 7 groups, at 4 잔 intervlas from 8 to 32 wks of age. The reuslts obtained were as follows: 1. PAS reaction showed positive on the basal and upper part beyond the nucleus of the peithelium of effernt ductules throughout all the classes of age. It was also positive on the free border and basal and upper part beyond the nucleus of the caput, on the free border andbasal parts of the corpus, and on the basal part of the cauda of the epididymal epithelium. 2. Acid phosphatase reaction was negative on the every part of epididymal epithelium at the age of 8 weeks, however, with the aging it became strangly positive on the areas between the free border and the nucleus, and moderately positive on the basal part of epithelium of the caput and corpus. In the free border adn basal part of the cauda, it was slightly positive. alkaline phosphatase reactin was negative on the every part of epididymal epithelium until 12 weeks of age. From 16 weeks, free border of epididymal epithelium becaqme slightly positive, and from 20 weeks, the reaction became stronger on the basal part but weekend on the free border with the aging. 3. In the sudan black B staining, many blue black granules between the free border and the nucleus, some granules on the basal part, and a few granules on the cytoplasm around the nucleus of the epididymal epithelium were observed from 8 weeks of age as early, and the granules were increased in number with the aging. 4. In Azan staining, reddish violet granules below the nucleus and blue granules on the upper part beyond the nucleus in some cells of epithelia of efferent ductules were noted at 12th and 16th week, and after 24th week, the granules were decreased with the aging. Golgi apparatus were clearly observable on the upper part beyond the nucleus of all parts of epididymal epithelium from 8th week, and also number of intracytoplasmic vacuoles(smaller ones on the upper part and larger ones on the basal part beyond the nucleus) and fine granules were increased with the aging. 5. In the toluidin blue staining, reddish purple granules on the basal part of the epithelium in all the parts of epididymal ducts, particularly brilliant in the cauda, were observed from 8th week as early. 6. In the Cowdry staining, numerous mitochondria, according to aging, were observed between the free border of epithelium and the upper part beyond the nucleus particularly in the catus and corpus of the epididymal ducts.
This study was conducted to evaluate the feeding value of ascidian tunic shell the effects of its dietary supplementation on laying performance, egg-yolk pigmentation, egg-shell strength and egg taurine content. A total of 168 brown layers at the age of 29wks in commercial cage were fed for 4 wks with 7 different diets containing ascidian tunic shel1(AST) at varying levels of 0$\sim$5% Dm or 0% AST with 100ppm carophyll red. No differences were found in egg production and weight among the treatments indicating that ascidian tunic shell did not adversely affect the laying performances. Adding the ascidian tunic shell to the diets increased egg-yolk pigmentation compared to the control and resulted in simillar or better effect on egg-yolk pigmentation compared to 100ppm carophyll red. The data suggest that ascidian tunic shell may be used as feed ingredients in layer diet enrichment of egg-yolk pigmentation in the place of carophyll red(chemical pigment). Specific gravity and breaking strength of egg shell were significantly increased by the adding ascidian tunic shell to the diet, suggesting that ascidian tunic shell may be used as feed ingredients for increasing egg shell strength. Also taurine content of egg was significantly increased with increasing supplementation of ascidian tunic shell to the diet(p<0.05). Therefore, ascidian tunic shell may be used as feed ingredients in laying hen diet to improve egg quality such as egg-yolk pigmentation, egg-shell strength and egg taurine enrichment.

Parathion is widely used in agriculture, but it is highly toxic and now clear that parathion behaves like a cholinergic drug by inhibiting the enzyme cholinesterase. In order to know the effect of toxicity and cholinesterase activity in rats injected repeatedly with parathion, cholinesterase activity in plasma, whole brain and spinal cord, and the subacute toxicity after repetitive intraperitoneal injection of parathion 20 times every 3 days were investigated. The results obtained were summerized as follows ; $LD_{50}$ value of parathion given intraperitoneally to rats was 10.5mg/kg(95% confidence limits, 6.6-16.8mg/kg). In subacute toxicity test of parathion injected intraperitoneally, mortality of parathion-pretreated rats(B : 57%, C : 83%) were increased in comparison with the control(50%). Cholinesterase activities in plasma of parathion-pretreated rats(B : 0.47 U/ml, C : 0.36 U/ml, AA : 0.31 U/ml, B : 0.26 U/ml, CC : 0.17 U/ml) were significantly decreased in comparison with the control(0.58 U/ml). Cholinesterase activities in spinal cord of parathion-pretreated rats(B : 1.87 U/g, C : 1.29 U/g, AA : 1.27 U/g, BB : 0.71 U/g, CC : 0.25 U/g) were decreased in comparison with the control(2.48 U/g). Cholinesterase activities in whole brain of parathion-pretreated rats(B : 2.52 U/g, C : 1.32 U/g, AA : 2.48 U/g, BB : 1.08 U/g, CC : 0.51 U/g) were significantly inhibited in comparison with the control(4.67 U/g). However, there were no differences in the urea nitrogen and creatinine concentrations between parathion-pretreated rats and control.
This study was performed to investigate the effect of conidial density, wetness period and temperature on conidial germination, appressoria formation and disease incidence. While there was not significantly correlated between conidial density and temperature, and conidial germination and appressoria formation, there was a significant correlation between those factors and disease incidence. The longer wetness period was, the higher the ratio of conidial germination, appressoria formation and the disease incidence was. The optimum conidial density, temperature and wetness period was $1{\times}10^6$ conidia $mL^{-1}$, $30^{\circ}C$ and 5 days, respectively. In case the wetness period was more than 5 days, the typical symptom was not found on pepper fruits because of the overgrowth of mycelia. Using this fruit assay method, which the pepper anthracnose pathogens were inoculated by spraying spore suspension on non-wounded or wounded pepper fruits, control effect of three fungicides were evaluated against pepper anthracnose by the protective and/or the curative application. Propineb showed high protective control activity, while it showed curative control activity on unwounded fruits, but did not showed curative control activity on wounded fruits. Tebuconazole, one of curative fungicide, showed higher control activity in non-wound inoculation than wound inoculation. Trifloxystrobin, one of strobilurin group, showed high both protective and control activity against anthracnose. In conclusion, we supposed that the newly developed in vitro pepper fruit assay can be used to evaluate antifungal activity of control agents against pepper anthracnose.
Purpose: To evaluate the effects of total or subtotal meniscectomy on anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Materials and Methods: We reviewed the 455 cases of arthroscopic ACLR (anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction) from February, 2003 to February, 2007 and followed-up more than 1 year. The 93 cases were enrolled. The 45 cases who underwent only ACLR were included and the 48 cases who underwent ACLR with total or subtotal meniscectomy were included in this study except grade 3 or 4 chondral lesion, partial meniscetomy or meniscal repair. We divided the patient into 4 groups which were isolated ACLR group (group I, 45cases), ACLR with lateral meniscectomy group (group II, 10cases), ACLR with medial meniscectomy group (group III, 28cases) and ACLR with both medial and lateral meniscectomy group (group IV, 10cases). The clinical evaluation was done by range of motion (ROM), IKDC subjective score, Lysholm score, anterior drawer test, Lachman test, Pivot shift test and KT-1000 arthrometer. Results: At final follow up, group IV was inferior than group I in IKDC subjective score and Lysholm score, and inferior than group II in IKDC subjective score. In KT-1000 arhtometric test, group I had better results than group III and group IV. Also in anterior drawer test and Lachman test, group 1 had better result than group III and group IV. In pivot shift test, there was no significant difference among four groups. Conclusion: Medial or both medial and lateral meniscectomy had greater laxity in anterior drawer test, Lachman test and KT-1000 arthrometric test and both medial and lateral meniscectomy had a lower subjective score than both meniscus intact group.

This experiment was carried out to establish the mechanized methods in stumping and root-clearing, which were the most important works in the reclamation of sloping uplands. The determination of optimum teeth interval of rake blades and its operation methods to reduce the quantity of transported topsoil during the works, are the aims of this investigation. A newly designed rake blade, whose net teeth intervals could be regulated by three stages as 15cm, 25cm, and 35cm, was manufactured to attach to the bulldozer of 13ton. The experiments were carried out at Kilsang-Myon, Kwangwha-Gun, from Aug. 9 to Aug. 23, 1975. For each interval, 36 test plots of 50${\times}$10mn in size, which were regulated under three levels of land slopes of 10, 20, and 30% and two different tree stand density of high or medium values, were randomly chosen and arranged by two-replicated split-split plot design. Each stump classified by its diameter was stumped and cleared by the rake dozer to be related between diameter and stumping time. The results obtained in this experiment can be summarized as follows: 1. Stumping times for the diameters ranging from 6 to 18cm of stumps are almost the same and they are not varied by the difference of teeth intervals of rake dozer. 2. By back-ward stumping method, the number of stumps which can be stumped per hour ranges almost from 100 to 170, showing significant difference with respect to the teeth intervals. The working area is sharply varied with not only the stand density of stumps but the teeth intervals. 3. Optimum stumping distance for each teeth interval of rake dozer to minimize the quantity of transported topsoil are varied with such the rates as it is 15m or 20m for 15cm of teeth interval, but 25m for 25cm or 35cm, respectively. The clearing distance could be chosen almost double as long as the operating distance. 4. The working areas per hour of the simultaneous stumping and clearing methods are no significant difference among the various treatments of working conditions, but they are affected by the operating techniques. However, the influencing factors of the working conditions as classified before and the working directions are ranged from 10 to 15 per cent of total working area, respectively. 5. The residual rates of stumps which are not stumped by the rake dozer in each test plot are generally reduced as the teeth interval gets narrower, but there are no significant difference among them. The mean residual rates average to be about 4% for the simultaneous stumping and clearing method. The back-ward stumping method are recommended to be supervised and directed by more than one man, to show the operator where the stumps are located. 6. The results according to the stumping and clearing methods are summarized as Table IV-2. And the selection of working methods is recommended to follow as shown in Fig. IV-9 with respect to the stand density of the field. 7. Generally speaking, the narrower the teeth interval, the better become the working results, but the more the quantity of transported topsoil is increased. Therefore, it is recommended that the teeth interval should be reduced from the present distance of more than 30cm to 25cm or 15cm, by developing suitable working methods through more field works and experiments.

This paper aimed to develop a solvent extraction and purification process to recover high-purified ${\beta}$-carotene from recombinant Escherichia coli. Cells harvested from the culture broth were treated through numerous steps: dehydration, solvent extraction, crystal formation and separation. To optimize the extracting condition, experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of cell disruption, temperature, organic solvents, solvent-biomass ratio on the yield of ${\beta}$-carotene extracted from cells. The result indicated that no significant differences of extraction yield were observed from cells with or without step of cell disruption. Among different extracting solvents, the highest extraction yield of ${\beta}$-carotene, 30.3 mg-${\beta}$-carotene/g-dry cells, was obtained with isobutyl acetate at solvent-biomass ratio 25 mL/g-dry cells at $50^{\circ}C$. Notably, in case of acetone, the extraction yield was quite low when using acetone itself, but increased almost up to the highest value when combining this solvent and olive oil. The purity of ${\beta}$-carotene crystals obtained from crystallization and separation was 89%. The purity degree was further improved up to 98.5% by treating crude crystals with additional ethanol washing.
To investigate anti-phytopathogenic fungal activity of Coptis chinensis, the methanol extract and its organic solvent fractions were prepared. Using the extract and the fractions, in-vitro spore-germination inhibition and mycelial-growth inhibition activities were evaluated against Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Phytohpthora capsici, Pyricularia grisea, Rhizoctonia solani, Botryosphaeri dothidea, Glomerella cingulata, respectively. Treatment of the methanol extract (500 mg/mL) into the spore of phytopathogenic fungi completely inhibited germinations for 5 days, except B. dothidea, and showed strong antifungal activities against P. grisea and B. cinerea, and antioomycetes activity against P. capsici. The minimal growth inhibition concentrations of the methanol extract against P. grisea, B. cinerea and P. capsici were 300, 300, and 500 mg/mL, respectively. For practical application of C. chinensis in red-pepper field, the hot-water extract (1,000 mg/mL) was prepared in commercial facility, after evaluation of heat stability and solvent-extraction yields of antifungal substances. The 3-times leaf-spray of the extract from June to August, 2008 did not show any deleterious effect to red-pepper. In fact, the leaf-spray promoted plant growth including leaf, root and fruit. The average weight and rind of each fruit were increased to 119% and 117% comparison to those of without treatments. Our results suggest that C. chinensis is a useful source for control of red-pepper diseases and plant growth.
