  • This study investigated the crystal growth, crystalline structure and the basic optical properties of $SnSe/BaF_2$ epilayers. The SnSe epilayer was grown on $BaF_2$(111) insulating substrates using a hot wall epitaxy(HWE) technique. It was found from the analysis of X-ray diffraction patterns that $SnSe/BaF_2$ epilayer was growing to single crystal with orthorhombic structure oriented [111] along the growth direction. Using Rutherford back scattering(RBS), the atomic ratios of the SnSe was found to be stoichiometric, almost 50 : 50. The best values for the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the DCXRD was 163 arcsec for SnSe epilarer. The epilayer-thickness dependence of the FWHM of the DCXRD shows that the quality of the $SnSe/BaF_2$ is as expected. The dielectric function ${\varepsilon}$(E) of a semiconductor is closely related to its electronic energy band structure and such relation can be drawn from features around the critical points in the optical spectra. The real and imaginary parts(${\varepsilon}_1$ and ${\varepsilon}_2$) of the dielectric function ${\varepsilon}$ of SnSe were measured. These data are analyzed using a theoretical model known as the model dielectric function(MDF). The optical constants related to dielectric function such as the complex refractive index(n*-n+ik), absorption coefficient (${\alpha}$) and normal- incidence reflectivity (R) are also presented for $SnSe/BaF_2$.

  • There has been a dramatic increase in public awareness regarding dementia during recent years. However, dementia remains a family affair and patients do not receive adequate care in Korea. This study aims to assist patients and their caregivers by establishing Home and Community based Long-Term Care in a city. The data collected for analysis include five main categories: dementia prevalence, limitations of daily activities of patients, burden of caregivers, the services that patient's family want to utilize, the resources that handle dementia in the community. Major findings can be summarized as follows: 1)The prevalence rate of dementia for elderly people is 13.1 per 100 persons. Alzheimer's disease amount to 38.9% of dementia patients and vascular dementia account for 36.7% of them 2)Eight out of ten patients have mild dementia. Almost all patients have normal ADL. IADL, however, shows different picture. In every items of IADL, about 60% of patients reveals some limitations. 3)The proportion of patients who had medical diagnosis is as low as 20%. Families of patients think dementia as normal aging process and medical doctors in the community do not give special concern to dementia patients. 4)Caregivers does not have proper social support. They suffer from long care time, experience large obstacles in respect of health, daily living, and social activity. 5)Health center and Community welfare center have launched some programs-consultation, home-visiting nursing, day care center, voluntary force mobilization and so on-for dementia patients. But they do not perform expected roles and functions because of lack of skilled personnels and inadequate coordination of relevant organizations for dementia care. 6)Families of dementia patients prefer home helper and home-visiting nurse to hospitalization. For the future, however, demand for institution-based long-term services will increase. We develope community dementia care model based on above findings as follows: 1)Health center execute community cardiovascular control program for the prevention of vascular dementia. 2)Refer to epidemiologic characteristics of patients and preference of family, the most urgent task for dementia care in this city is to expand and organize Home and Community based Long-Term Care. 3)For the continuous and comprehensive care, care plan for a patient must be prepared. Case management team should be builded to prepare this plan and coordinate relevant resources. 4)Special long-term care unit for dementia will be needed in a near future. This unit should have multiple functions, such as day-care center, short stay facility, training center for relevant personnels, besides long-term nursing home considering effective care of dementia and efficient operation of the facility. 5)Voluntary workers deserve their due efforts. Incentive mechanisms must be developed to activate voluntary activities.

  • The purpose of this study was to describe the application of 3D finite element analysis to determine resultant stresses on the bone anchored fixed prosthesis, implants and supporting bone of the mandible according to fixture numbers and load conditions. 4 or 6 fixtures and the bone anchored fixed prosthesis were placed in 3D finite element mandibular arch model which represents an actual mandibular skull. A $45^{\circ}$ diagonal load of 10㎏ was labiolingually applied in the center of the prosthesis(P1). A $45^{\circ}$ diagonal load of 20㎏ was buccolingually applied at the location of the 10mm or 20mm cantilever posterior to the most distal implant(P2 or P3). The vertical distribution loads were applied to the superior surfaces of both the right and the left 20mm cantilevers(P4). In order that the boundary conditions of the structure were located to the mandibular ramus and angle, the distal bone plane was to totally fixed to prevent rigid body motion of the entire model. 3D finite element analysis was perfomed for stress distribution and deflection on implants and supporting bone using commercial software(ABAQUS program. for Sun-SPARC Workstation. The results were as follows : 1. In all conditions of load, the hightest tensile stresses were observed at the metal lates of prostheses. 2. The higher tensile stresses were observed at the diagonal loads rather than the vertical loads 3. 6-implants cases were more stable than 4-implants cases for decreasing bending and torque under diagonal load on the anterior of prosthesis. 4. From a biomechanical perspective, high stress developed at the metal plate of cantilever-to-the most distal implant junctions as a consequence of loads applied to the cantilever extension. 5. Under diagonal load on cantilever extension, the 6-implants cases had a tendency to reduce displacement and to increase the reaction force of supporting point due to increasing the bendign stiffness of the prosthesis than 4-implants cases. 6. Under diagonal load on cantilever extension, the case of 10mm long cantilever was more stable than that of 20mm long cnatilever in respect of stress distribution and displacement. 7. When the ends of 10mm or 20mm long cantilever were loaded, the higher tensile stress was observed at the second most distal implant rather than the first most distal implant. 8. The 6-implants cases were more favorable about prevention of screw loosening under repeated loadings because 6-implants cases had smaller deformation and 4-implants cases had larger deformation.

  • Purpose: To evaluate the effects of implant location and length on stress distribution and displacement in osseointegrated-implants that were associated with mandibular distal extension removable partial dentures (DERPD). Materials and Methods: A sagittally cut model with the #33, #34 teeth and a removable partial denture of the left mandible was used. Seven models were designed with NX 9.0. Models A, B, C had implants with lengths of 11, 6, 4 mm, respectively, under the denture base of the #37 artificial tooth. Models D, E, F had implants with lengths of 11, 6, 4 mm, respectively, under the denture base of the #36 artificial tooth. Model G did not have any implants. Axial force (250 N) was loaded on #36 central fossa. The finite element analysis was performed with MSC Nastran. Von Mises stress maps were plotted to visualize the results. Results: The models of #37 implant placement showed much lower stress concentration on the surrounding bone of the implant compared with #36. The #36 implant position tended to reduce displacement more than #37. Conclusion: When an IARPD is designed, the distal positioning of implant placement has more advantages in the edentulous bone of DERPD on the prognosis of short implants and the stress distribution of edentulous alveolar bone. Using implants with longer lengths are important for stress distribution. However, Additional studies are necessary of the effects of length on implant survival.

  • Through the 106th session of the International Maritime Organization(IMO)'s Maritime Safety Committee(MSC), a mandatory safety training requirement for all personnel transferred or accommodated for offshore industrial activities was established and adopted under the name of SOLAS Chapter XV, IP(Industrial Personnel) Code. This regulation mandates pre-boarding safety training to enable individuals to anticipate and mitigate hazardous risks in navigation and operational environments. Consequently, the IP Code includes provisions regarding the training content for industrial personnel and regulations for the refusal of master who has a full responsibility for individuals who have not completed the required training(non-qualified industrial personnel). Referred to as the IP Code, this agreement is set to enter into force in July 2024, necessitating the establishment and operation of safety education for industrial personnel boarding ships before that date. Accordingly, this paper reviews the legal requirements related to training within IP code and analyzes the details of models including training objectives, target audience, duration, and course structure of safety trainings such as STCW, OPITO, GWO training, and other delegated training related to current ships. Additionally, it aims to propose a curriculum model for IP training courses which consists of a total of 16 hours over 2 days, offered by the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology, including teaching objectives, duration, and course structure.

  • The impregnation of solid foods into the surrounding hypotonic or hypertonic solution was explored as a method to infuse NaCl in pork loin cube without altering its matrix. Mass transfer kinetics using a diffusive model as the mathematical model for moisture gain/loss and salt gain and the resulting textural properties were studied for the surrounding solutions of NaCl 2.5, 5.0, 10.0 and 15% (w/w). It was possible to access the effects of brine concentration on the direction of the resulting water flow, quantify water and salt transfer, and confirm tenderization effect by salt infusion. For brine concentrations up to 10% it was verified that meat samples gained water, while for processes with 15% concentration, pork loin cubes lost water. The effective diffusion coefficients of salt ranged from 2.43×10-9 to 3.53×10-9 m2/s, while for the values of water ranged from 1.22×10-9 to 1.88×10-9 m2/s. The diffusive model was able to represent well salt gain rates using a single parameter, i.e. an effective diffusion coefficient of salt through the meat. However, it was not possible to find a characteristic effective diffusion coefficient for water transfer. Within the range of experimental conditions studied, salt-impregnated samples by 5% (w/w) brine were shown with minimum hardness, chewiness and shear force.

  • Total reduction factor that is used when calculating allowable tensile strength of geogrids is made by multiplying the installation damage reduction factor ($RF_{ID}$), chemical degradation reduction factor ($RF_D$), and creep reduction factor ($RF_{CR}$) etc. In case of a model estimating allowable tensile strength considering reduction factor over the short-term tensile strength of geogrids, it has a limit of not considering interaction force between reduction factors. Junction strength comes to be reduced by installation damages or chemical degradation in the same way as tensile strength. Single junction test method cannot properly test damaged samples and shows large deviations as it does not consider scale effect. Besides, regarding calculating shear strength, no reasonable study on reduction factors was conducted yet. Therefore, in this study, reduction factors that may affect the long-term performance of geogrids were revaluated considering various conditions and accurate long-term allowable tensile strength was calculated considering interrelation between reduction factors. Creep results after installation damage and chemical resistance test showed lower value than calculated value according to GRI GG-4. After the installation damage test and the chemical resistance test, the reduction factor of junction strength was less than that of tensile strength. Shear strength before and after installation damage showed no change or increase.

  • Direct Absorption Receiver and Thermal Storage System is a complex problem. This paper describes only characteristic of fluid flow on the receiver. The fluid thicknesses of Molten Salts (Melting Point : $397^{\circ}C$) flowing on the receiver of modified protopype ($10m{\times}10m$) were calculated theorectically, changing the receiver slope from 60 degree to 85 degree (5 steps). The receiver temperatures were $430^{\circ}C$ at the top part and $950^{\circ}C$ at the low part. The flow thickness of the Molten Salts at the top part of the receiver are around 1.9mm in the case of maximum insolution ($50{\times}10^6$juoule/sec; 58.898kg/sec of flow rate) and 2.0mm at the low part. In the case of 3/10 of maximum insolation (flow rate = 17.669kg/sec) the flow thickness at the top part are around 0.9mm and 0.4mm at the low part, and in the case of 1/10 of maximum insolation (flow rate = 5.889 kg/see) the flow thickness at the top part are around 0.6mm and 0.3mm at the low part. From experimental measurements of a normal fresh water thickness flowing on the model plate ($12.7cm{\times}111.76cm$), around 0.8mm at the top part of the plate and around 0.7mm at the low part were obtained in the case of maximum insolation (flow rate = 0.12496 kg/see). In the case of 3/10 (flow rate = 0.03748 kg/see) and 1/10 (flow rate = 0.012496 kg/see) of maximum insolation, around 0.5mm and 0.4mm at the top part, and around 0.3mm and 0.2mm at the low part were obtained respectively. The reason why the thickness of the Molten Salts increase at the low part of the receiver only in case of maximum insolation is that decreasing rate of the viscosity of the Molten Salts is larger than decreasing rate of the density of the Molten Salts during temperature increase from the top to the low receiver plate and decrease of the fluid velocity in accordance with continuity principle. In all cases without the above maximum insolation, the thickness of the Molten Salts and the fresh water decreased at the low part of the plate because of gravity force effects rather than friction effects and of continuity principle. All simillar flow patterns were obtained through all cases of the insolation making an exception of only maximum insolation.

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the biomechanical aspects of peri-implant bone upon root contact of orthodontic microimplant. Methods: Axisymmetric finite element modeling scheme was used to analyze the compressive strength of the orthodontic microimplant (Absoanchor SH1312-7, Dentos Inc., Daegu, Korea) placed into inter-radicular bone covered by 1 mm thick cortical bone, with its apical tip contacting adjacent root surface. A stepwise analysis technique was adopted to simulate the response of peri-implant bone. Areas of the bone that were subject to higher stresses than the maximum compressive strength (in case of cancellous bone) or threshold stress of 54.8MPa, which was assumed to impair the physiological remodeling of cortical bone, were removed from the FE mesh in a stepwise manner. For comparison, a control model was analyzed which simulated normal orthodontic force of 5 N at the head of the microimplant. Results: Stresses in cancellous bone were high enough to cause mechanical failure across its entire thickness. Stresses in cortical bone were more likely to cause resorptive bone remodeling than mechanical failure. The overloaded zone, initially located at the lower part of cortical plate, proliferated upward in a positive feedback mode, unaffected by stress redistribution, until the whole thickness was engaged. Conclusions: Stresses induced around a microimplant by root contact may lead to a irreversible loss of microimplant stability.
