  • This research studies and analyzes the current trends and the frequency allocation bands for digital cordless phone(DCP) in other county. From these results, we propose 1.7GHz & 2.4GHz as a effective candidate frequency band for domestic DCP. A proposed 1.7GHz is expected to introduce DECT system of Europe. Therefore it is necessary to make an analysis of interference between 1.7GHz band and an adjacent IMT-2000 band. In this paper, we proposed the allocation of channel for 1.7GHz on the basis of the analysis of frequency interference between 1.7GHz band and an adjacent IMT-2000 band.

Effects of Preheating and Ascorbate on Heat Resistance of Escherichia coli O157:H7 (Escherichia coli O157:H7 균주의 열저항성에 미치는 예비열처리 및 Ascorbate의 효과)

  • A study was undertaken to determine the thermal inactivation of Escherichia coli O157:H7 as influenced by the effects of temperature, time, suspension medium and ascorbate. Tryptic soy broth was more heat resistant than pfosphate buffer (pH 7.1), with D values of 1.52~1.68 min at 6$0^{\circ}C$ and 1.51~1.63 min at 7$0^{\circ}C$ compared with 1.52~1.65 min at 6$0^{\circ}C$ and 1.26~1.61 min at 7$0^{\circ}C$ for phosphate buffer as suspension medium. E. coli O157:H7 was completely inhibited within 30 min when small inoculum (106 CFU/$m\ell$) was heated at 7$0^{\circ}C$. When E. coli O157:H7 was preheated at 48$^{\circ}C$ for 60 min in phosphate buffer before heating, D values were 1.28~1.60 min at 6$0^{\circ}C$, and 1.13~1.56 min at 7$0^{\circ}C$, showing that preheating increases the heat resistance of the strain. Phosphate buffer containing ascorbate (0.001 M) was enhanced the thermal inactivation of the strain when inoculated as large inoculum (109 CFU/$m\ell$), while ascorbic acid was no effect at low cell concentrations (109 CFU/$m\ell$).

  • To use multimedia data in restricted resources of mobile environment, any management method of MPEG-7 documents is needed. At this time, some XML clustering methods can be used. But, to improve the performance efficiency better, a new clustering method which uses the characteristics of MPEG-7 documents is needed. A new clustering improved query processing speed at multimedia search and it possible document storage about various application suitably. In this paper, we suggest a new clustering method of MPEG-7 documents for effective management in multimedia data of large capacity, which uses some semantic relationships among elements of MPEG-7 documents. And also we compared it to the existed clustering methods.

  • OASL1 is a member of the 2'-5'-oligoadenylate synthetase (OAS) family and promotes viral clearance by activating RNase L. OASL1 interacts with the 5'-untranslated region (UTR) of interferon regulatory factor 7 (Irf7) and inhibits its translation. To identify the secondary structure required for OASL1 binding, we examined the 5'-UTR of the Irf7 transcript using "selective 2'-hydroxyl acylation analyzed by primer extension" (SHAPE). SHAPE takes advantage of the selective acylation of residues in single-stranded regions by 1-methyl-7-nitroisatoic anhydride (1M7). We found five major acylation sites located in, or next to, predicted single-stranded regions of the Irf7 5'-UTR. These results demonstrate the involvement of the stem structure of the Irf7 5'-UTR in the regulation of Irf7 translation, mediated by OASL1.

Biological Control of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum Using Indigenous Chitinolytic Actinomycetes in Jordan

  • The white cottony stem rot pathogen Sclerotinia scierotiorum was subjected to 70 different isolates of actinomycetes indigenous to Jordan as biological control agents. Forty of them demonstrated chitinase activity on crab shell chitin agay (CCA) media and they were segregated into three groups: 14 highly active, 12 moderately active, and 14 with low activity, with average clearing zones of (4.7-8.3), (3.7-4.3), and (2.3-3.3) mm surrounding colonies on CCA, respectively. Further, these isolates were able to inhibit radial mycelium growth of the pathogen and were categorized into three antagonistic groups: 13 strong, 13 moderate, and 14 weak antagonists, with antibiosis inhibition Bones of (32.0-45.7), (22.7-31.3), and (3.7-22.3) mm, respectively. High levels of chitinase activity of the isolates Ma3 (8.3 mm), Jul (7.7 mm), and Sa8 (7.7 mm) with their antagonistic activity against mycelium growth of 45.7, 44.3, and 40.7 mm were observed, respectively. These isolates exhibited fungicidal activity against sclevotia of S. sclerotiorum. On the other hand, isolates Na5, Aj3, and Aj2 that produced no chitinase showed fungistatic effect only.

The Relationship between the Expression of Melanoma Differentiation-Associated Gene-7/Interleukin-24 (MDA-7/IL-24) and Clinicopathological Features in Colorectal Adenocarcinomas

  • The melanoma differentiation-associated gene-7 (MDA-7) protein, also known as interleukin-24 (IL-24), is a novel candidate of tumor suppressor that can induce apoptosis experimentally in a variety of human malignant cells. However, there have been few studies about its role in colorectal cancer. We performed immunohistochemical detection of MDA-7/IL-24 in 399 tissue samples from primary colorectal adenocarcinoma patients using a tissue microarray. Western blotting was then done to confirm the immunohistochemical observations. MDA-7/IL-24 immunoreactivity was observed in 116 (29.1%) of the 399 colorectal adenocarcinoma cases. Analysis of the MDA-7/IL-24 expression by Western blotting confirmed the immunohistochemical results. The tumors with a negative MDA-7/IL-24 expression more frequently showed poor differentiation (P=0004), lymph node metastasis (P=0.001), deep invasion (P=0.008) and high stage (P=0.001). A subset of colorectal adenocarcinoma revealed a decreased expression of MDA-7/IL-24, and this was associated with progressive pathologic features. These findings suggest that loss of MDA-7/IL-24 expression may play a role in tumor growth and progression of colorectal adenocarcinomas.

  • 퀴놀론 모핵의 합성은 기존에 알려진 합성 방법인 Could-Jacobs방법과 Bayer방법에 의해서 Intermediate로 사용된 7-chloro-1-ethyl-6-fluoro-1, 4-dihydro-4-oxoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid와 1-cyclopropyl-7-chloro-6-Fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxoquinolne-3-carboxylic acid를 합성하였다. Heteroaromatic tin compound는 furan, thiophene, 3-bromopyridine, 2-fluoropyridine에 n-BuLi을 사용하여 metallation 한후 electrophile로 tributyltin chloride를 사용하여 2-tributylstannofuran, 2-tributylst-annothiophene, 3-tributylstannopyridine, 2- fluoro-2-tributylstannop-yridine을 합성할 수 있었다. 이상의 Intermediate와 tin compounds를 p-alladium 촉매하에서 반응시켜 1-ethyl-7-(2-furanyl)-6-fluoro-1,4-dihy-dro-4-oxo-3-quinoline-carboxylic acid (compound 3), 1-ethyl-7-(2-th-iophenyl)-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinol in carboxylic acid(compound 5), 1-ethyl-7-(3-pyridinyl)-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinoline carboxylic acid (compound 7), 1-ethyl-7-(2-fluoro-3-pyrid-nyl)-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinoline carboxylic acid (compound 9), 1-cyclopropyl-7-(2-furanyl) -6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinoline carboxylic acid (compound 4), 1-cyclopropyl-7-(2-thiophenyl)-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinoline carboxylic acid (compound 6) ,1-cyclopropyl-7-(3-pyridinyl)-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinoline carboxylic acid (compound 8), 1-cyclopropyl-7-(2-fluoro-3-pyridinyl)-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinoline carboxylic acid (compound 10)를 합성하였다.

  • A new series of 2-desamino, 2-desamino-2-methyl, and 2-amino analogues of aminopterin intermediates (7a), (7b), and (7c) were synthesized from 2-amino-3-cyano-6-chloromethylpyrazine. These derivatives were synthesized via two step sequence. Thus, cyclization of 2-amino-3-cyano-6-[(S-p-carbenzyloxyphenyl)thiomethyl]-pyrazine(14) with formamidine HCl, acetamidine HCl or guanidine HCl provided condensed compounds (15a), (15b) which upon base hydrolysis yielded the desired products (7a), (7b) and (7c).

  • Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are essential growth factors for bone formation, skeletal development and bone regeneration. The BMP-2/7 heterodimer is known to have remarkable effects on osteogenic induction that are even stronger than the BMP-2 or BMP-7 homodimers. We designed a recombinant human BMP-2/7 (rhBMP-2/7) heterodimer protein with four glycine residues between BMP-2 and BMP-7 protein to facilitate free bond rotation of domains. The Baculovirus Expression Vector System (BEVS) is routinely used to produce recombinant proteins in the milligram scale. In this study, the BEVS was used to express the rhBMP-2/7 protein whrer the recombinant baculovirus was recovered in the host Sf9 cells. To confirm the biological activity of rhBMP-2/7 protein secreted from the BEVS as an osteogenic differentiation and induction factor, we measured the BMP-induced ALP activity. rhBMP-2/7 could be used as an alternative to BMPs to overcome limitations like short half-life and requirement for high concentrations. Furthermore, rhBMP-2/7 may be an efficient tool for various application studies such as bone regeneration and skeletal development.

  • Flavin mononucleotide (1,4-butanediamine) Pt(II) complex (7FMN) was synthesized and screened anticancer activity [J. Pharm. Soc. Korea 43(6),762-770 (1999)]. 7FMN have good water solubility and moderate anticancer activiy In this paper cell-cycle specificity and nephrotoxicity were studied. Interaction of DNA with cisplatin and synthesized 7FMN was analyzed by flow cytometry and showed G2 arrest in L1210 cell line. It means that cell-cycle on L1210 was inhibit in S phase by cisplatin and 7FMN. In order to biochemically analyze nephrotoxicity of cisplatin and 7FMN, after injecting each agent intraperitoneally, blood was exsanguinated after 6 hours, 1 day, 3 days and 7 days, respectively. Then, serum was separated from the blood. The serum level of BUN, creatinine and uric acid in cisplatin and 7FMN administated mice (25~35 g, ICR strain, a dose each 8,12 and 16 times of the $IC_{50}$/ value, cisplatin; 7 times) were determined by autochemistry analyzer. In cisplatinadministered mice group, BUN level was elevated than normal control group at 3rd day and repaired at 7th day. In 7FMN administrated group was not elevated. Creatinine and uric acid level were no difference with the normal control group. Therefore synthesized 7FMN is less toxic than cisplatin in nephrotoxiciaty.
