Effect of Salt on Mitotic Cycle in Root Meristem Cells of Rice (벼 세포적기에 미치는 염분 농도의 영향)

  • The mitotic cycle duration(MCD) and component phase periods of rice(Oryza sativa L.) root meristem cells on the different salt concentrations were investigated by using of tritiated thymidine. The time interval between the maxima of sequential mitotic appearances of marked cells was used as criteria in measuring the MCD of rice. The MCD of rice cultivars 'Seomjinbyeo and Chilseongbyeo' at 0.0%, 0.3%, and 0.6% of salt concentrations appeared the same period as 12hr. The durations of component phase of rice cultivar 'Seomjinbyeo' were the almost same periods at 0.1%, 0.3%, and 0.6% of salt, but in 'Chilseongbyeo' cultivar the G1 and G2 periods were shorter while the S period was longer at 0.3% and 0.6% of salt. Deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA) and protein synthesis were increased while ribonucleic acid(RNA) synthesis was decreased with increasing salt concentrations at Chilseombyeo roots. In Seomjinbyeo roots, DNA and RNA synthesis were decreased while protein synthesis was increased with increasing salt concentrations. These results suggest that DNA, RNA, and protein synthesis may not affect the MCD in rice, but the increase of protein synthesis may be related to the salt tolerance of rice.

CHIP promotes the degradation of mutant SOD1 by reducing its interaction with VCP and S6/S6' subunits of 26S proteasome

  • Previously we showed that CHIP, a co-chaperone of Hsp70 and E3 ubiquitin ligase, can promote the degradation of mutant SOD1 linked to familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (fALS) via a mechanism not involving SOD1 ubiquitylation. Here we present evidence that CHIP functions in the interaction of mutant SOD1 with 26S proteasomes. Bag-1, a coupling factor between molecular chaperones and the proteasomes, formed a complex with SOD1 in an hsp70-dependent manner but had no direct effect on the degradation of mutant SOD1. Instead, Bag-1 stimulated interaction between CHIP and the proteasome-associated protein VCP (p97), which do not associate normally. Over-expressed CHIP interfered with the association between mutant SOD1 and VCP. Conversely, the binding of CHIP to mutant SOD1 was inhibited by VCP, implying that the chaperone complex and proteolytic machinery are competing for the common substrates. Finally we observed that mutant SOD1 strongly associated with the 19S complex of proteasomes and CHIP over-expression specifically reduced the interaction between S6/S6' ATPase subunits and mutant SOD1. These results suggest that CHIP, together with ubiquitin-binding proteins such as Bag-1 and VCP, promotes the degradation of mutant SOD1 by facilitating its translocation from ATPase subunits of 19S complex to the 20S core particle.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide the effective pain management care for post operative patients through understanding patient's knowledge and attitude about pain-management. The data was collected by distributing structured questionnaires to 200 inpatients in 2 secondary hospitals located in Ulsan, beginning June 28, 2010 to August 11, 2010, and analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient. The level of Knowledge about pain management postperations was $6.44{\pm}2.03$. The level of attitude about pain management postperations was $6.92{\pm}1.78$. The significant differences were founded within the inpatient's knowledge about pain management according to the inpatient's demographic data:Age(F=5.55, p=.01), Marital status(t=-2.17, p=.03). The significant differences were founded within the inpatient's attitude about pain management according to the inpatient's demographic data:Job(F=3.45, p=.03). Developing educational material and guidebooks is needed to form more positive about pain-control after operations. This study researched only inpatient's knowledge and attitude about pain-management, but researching nurses, doctors, inpatients and family member's knowledge and attitude should be included in following studies.

  • A precursor of bulgecinine, (4S,5R)-1-acetyl-2-formyl-5-benzyloxymethyl-4-pyrrolidinol (15) has been synthesized from diacetone-D-glucose. Barton deoxygenation, conversion to an L-sugar and displacement with $N_3^-$ at C-5, and one-pot reductive cyclization at C-2 produced (6R)-6-Ο-benzyloxymethyl-(3R)-3-methoxy-2-oxa-5-azabicyclo-[2,2,1]heptane(13), a key intermediate for bulgecinine. N-Acetylation and acid hydrolysis of 13 furnished a precursor of bulgecinine, (2S,4S,5R)-pyrrolidinol derivative 15 and its (2R,4S,5R)-diastereomer.

Effect of ZnS:Mn, Dy Yellow Phosphor on White LEDs Characteristics (백색 LED의 특성에 대한 ZnS:Mn, Dy 황색 형광체의 영향)

  • ZnS:Mn, Dy yellow phosphors for White Light Emitting Diode were synthesized by a solid state reaction method using ZnS, $MnSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O$, S and $DyCl_3{\cdot}6H_2O$ powders as starting materials. The mixed powder was sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 4 h in an air atmosphere. The photoluminescence of the ZnS:Mn, Dy phosphors showed spectra extending from 480 to 700 nm, peaking at 580 nm. The photoluminescence of 580 nm in the ZnS:Mn, Dy phosphors was associated with $^4T_1{\rightarrow}^6A_1$ transition of $Mn^{2+}$ ions. The highest photoluminescence intensity of the ZnS:Mn, Dy phosphors under 450 nm excitation was observed at 4 mol% Dy doping. The enhanced photoluminescence intensity of the ZnS:Mn, Dy phosphors was explained by energy transfer from $Dy^{3+}$ to $Mn^{2+}$. The CIE coordinate of the 4 mol% Dy doped ZnS:Mn, Dy was X = 0.5221, Y = 0.4763. The optimum mixing conditions for White Light Emitting Diode was obtained at the ratio of epoxy : yellow phosphor = 1:2 form CIE coordinate.

  • Segment routing (SR) is a source-based routing architecture in which a node steers packets adhering to service and topological requirements. Using programmable segments, SR enables end-to-end service connectivity to satisfy the network constraints of various services. SR can be implemented with both MPLS and IPv6 dataplanes. This survey presents the overview of SR for IPv6 dataplane (SRv6), network programming technologies based on SRv6, and the SR deployment status.

Effect of a (S)-(+)-decursin Derivative, (S)-(+)-3-(3,4-dihydroxy-phenyl)-acrylic Acid 2,2-dimethyl-8-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H,8H-pyrano[3,2-g]-chromen-3-yl-ester on Apoptosis of Eosinophils and Neutrophils in Normal and Asthmatic Subjects

  • (S)-(+)-3(3,4-dihydroxy-phenyl)-acrylic acid 2,2-dimethyl-8-oxo3,4-dihydro-2H,8H-pyrano[3,2-g]Chromen-3-yl-ester (Compound 6, C6) is synthesized from (S)-(+)-decursin and attenuates the pathophysiologic progression of asthma in a ovalbumin-induced asthmatic mouse model. In the present study, we examined the effect of C6 on spontaneous apoptosis of eosinophils and neutrophils of normal and asthmatic subjects. C6 increased the apoptosis of asthmatic eosinophils in a dose-dependent manner, but it inhibited neutrophil apoptosis. C6 has no effect on apoptosis of normal eosinophils and neutrophils. LY294002, an inhibitor of PI3K, rottlerin, an inhibitor of $PKC{\delta}$, Ro-31-8425, an inhibitor of classical PKC inhibitor, PD98059, an inhibitor of MEK, and BAY 11-7085, an inhibitor of NF-${\kappa}B$, blocked the inhibitory effect on apoptosis of asthmatic neutrophils due to C6. These results indicate that C6 may be valuable as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of asthma.

Growth of Mother Plants and Occurrence of Daughter Plants of 'Maehyang' Strawberry as Affected by Different EC Levels of Nutrient Solution during Nursery Period (양액 EC 농도에 따른 육묘기 '매향' 딸기 모주의 생육 및 자묘 발생)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the optimum electrical conductivity (EC) levels of nutrient solution for growth of mother plants and increasing occurrence of daughter plants of strawberry ($Fragaria{\times}ananassa$ Duch. cv. Maehyang) using hydroponics. The mother plants of strawberry were transplanted in cultivation pot ($61{\times}27{\times}18cm$) filled with coir medium on March 22, 2017. Nutrient solution was supplied by the drip tape at $0.6dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ of EC levels for rooting during 11 days. After rooting, the mother plants of strawberry was treated at the EC levels of 0.6, 1.2 or $1.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, respectively. Growth characteristics, such as mother plants and daughter plants of strawberry were measured at 100 days after transplanting. The plant height of mother plant was significantly higher at $0.6dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ treatment, and the crown diameter of mother plant was significantly greater at $1.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ treatment. The fresh and dry weights of shoot were higher at both 0.6 and, $1.2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ treatments. The number of runners was not significantly different in all treatments. The fresh and dry weights of runner were heavier at $0.6dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ than other treatments. The number of daughter plants was the highest, 16.7 at the $1.2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ treatment. However, the fresh and dry weights of third daughter plant were the heaviest at $0.6dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ treatment. Although the daughter plants were a large of production at $1.2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ treatment, the low EC levels of strawberry were positive in terms of seedling quality during nursery. These results indicated that growth of mother plant and occurrence of daughter plants were greater at the EC $0.6dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ nutrient solution for hydroponic cultivation of 'Maehyang' strawberry during nursery period.

EFFECT OF CARBON DIOXIDE LASER ON INHIBITION OF DEMINERALIZATION AND REHARDENING OF PRIMARY TEETH (이산화탄소 레이저의 유치 탈회억제 및 재경화 효과)

  • The purpose of study was to investigate the effect of carbon dioxide laser on demineralization inhibition and rehardening of primary tooth enamel according to its power and irradiation time. 2mm diameter circle on the primary enamel surface was irradiated by defocused $10.6{\mu}m$ superpulse carbon dioxide laser at 6 Watt 2 seconds or at 3 Watt 8 seconds, before or after demineralization by Coca-Cola for 24 hours. Enamel surface change was measured by the Diagnodent. The results were analyzed with the former study results of 3 Watt 4 seconds and 6 Watt and 4 seconds. Diagnodent scores increased significantly after demineralization of irradiated enamel at 6W 2s or 3W 8s (P<0.05). Among the four groups, only 6W 4s group showed obvious demineralization inhibition effect. Diagnodent scores reduced significantly after 6W 2s or 3W 8s irradiation of demineralized enamel(P<0.05). Among the four groups, 6W 4s showed nearly complete rehardening effect, and the other groups showed partial effect. Tooth discoloration only occurred at 6W 4s. It seemed that caries inhibition and tooth discoloration depend on laser power more than total irradiation energy.
