Unsteady flow simulations of complete helicopter configurations were conducted, and the flow fields and the aerodynamic interferences between the main rotor, fuselage, and tail rotor were investigated. For these simulations, a three-dimensional flow solver based on unstructured meshes was used, coupled with an overset mesh technique to handle relative motion among those components. To validate the flow solver, calculations were made for a UH-60A complete helicopter configuration at high-speed and low-speed forward flight conditions, and the unsteady airloads on the main rotor blade were compared to available flight test data and other calculated results. The results showed that the fuselage changed the rotor inflow distribution in the main rotor blade airloads. Such unsteady vibratory airloads were produced on the fuselage, which were nearly in-phase with the blade passage over the fuselage. The flow solver was then applied to the simulation of a generic complete helicopter configuration at various flight conditions, and the results were compared with those of the CAMRAD-II comprehensive analysis code. It was found that the main rotor blades strongly interact with a pair of disk-vortices at the outer edge of the rotor disk plane, which leads to high pulse airloads on the blade, and these airloads behave differently depending on the specific flight condition.
Adsorption of melamine was examined using columns packed with granular activated carbon (GAC). Raw GAC was sieved with 20, 40, 60 and 80 mesh to determine the influence of adsorbent particle size on reaction and diffusion. The mass ratio of the adsorption capacity of GAC for melamine ranged from 9.19 to 11.06%, and adsorption rates increased with decreasing particle size within this range. Rate constants between 3.295 ~ 4.799 $min^{-1}$ were obtained using a pseudofirst-order equation that was used to determine adsorption kinetics. A surface diffusion model was adapted to take into account the unsteady-state equation of a spherical adsorbent by converting the surface concentration from a constant to a variable governed by a dispersion equation. The calculated values were fit with the experimental results by using the diffusion coefficients as regression parameters. The modified equation exhibited a more precise agreement with respect to the sum of the absolute error (SAE).
In the field of welding the mechanical behavior of a welded structure under consideration may be predicted via heat transfer and welding residual stress analysis. Usually such numerical analyses are limited to small regular mesh models or test specimens. Nevertheless, there is very few strength assessment of the whole structure that includes the effect of welded residual stress. The present work is based on the specialized finite element codes for the calculation of nonlinear heat transfer details and residual stress including the external load on the welded RHS (Rectangular Hollow Section) T-joint connections of the whole structure. First the thermal history of the combined fillet and butt-welded T-joint equal width cold-formed RHS are calculated using nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA) considering the quarter model of the joint. Then using this thermal history the residual stress around the joints has been evaluated. To validity the FEA result, the calculated residual stresses were compared with the available experimental results. The residual stress obtained from the quarter model is mapped to the full model and then to the whole structure model using FEM codes. The results from the FEM codes were exported to the commercial package for visualization and further analysis applying loads and boundary conditions on the whole structure. The residual stress redistribution along with the external applied load is examined computationally.
Heavy metal ions in water were removed using algal biomass as adsorbents. Absorbents were dried for 3 days, ground them by 40~60 mesh and then were swelled in a buffer solution for 1hr. After being packed in the column, commercially available standard solution of Cd(II) and Pb(II) ions were diluted to get the suitable concentration and then it was eluted with the rate of 1mι/min. Heavy metals on the adsorbents were recovered with nitric acid. More amounts of Cd(II) or Pb(II) ions in green algae, Ulva pertusa, than in brown algae, Sargassum horneri, were adsorbed. Pb(II) ion was adsorbed more than Cd(II) ion in both algae. The pH effect of adsorbed amounts of Cd(II), Pb(II) ions on the biomass was shown the following order ; pH 10.5 > 8.5 > 7.0 > 5.5 > 3.5. Recovery ratio of metal ions front algae is shown higher in acidic or neutral conditions than it in alkalic ones. Pb(II) ion is recovered relatively more than Cd(II) ion in our system.
Fabrication and oxidants formation of 1 and 2 component metal oxide electrode, which is known to be so effective to destruct non-biodegradable organics in wastewater, were studied. Five electrode materials (Ru, Pt, Sn, Sb and Gd) were used for the 1 and 2 component electrode. The metal oxide electrode was prepared by coating the electrode material on the surface of the titanium mesh and then thermal oxidation at $500^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The removed RhB per 2 min and unit W for one component electrode decreased in the following sequences: Ru/Ti>Sb/Ti>Pt/Ti>Gd/Ti>Sn/Ti. The concentration of oxidants generated in 1 and 2 component electrodes was in the order of: $ClO_2$> free Cl>$H_2O_2>O_3$. OH radical was not generated from in entire one and two component electrodes. RhB degradation rate and generated oxidants of the Ru-Sn=9:1 electrode was higher than that of the two component electrode. The exact relationship between the removal of RhB and the generated oxidants concentration was not obvious. However, it was assumed that electrode with high RhB decolorization had high oxidant concentration.

This study has been focused on application of ELID mirror-surface grinding technology for manufacturing single crystal optic sapphire. Single crystal sapphire is a superior material with optic properties of high performance as light transmission, thermal conductivity, hardness and so on. Mirror-surface machining technology is necessary to use sapphire as optic parts. The ELID grinding system has been set up for machining of the sapphire material. According to the ELID experimental results, it shows that the surface of sapphire can be eliminated by metal bonded wheel with micron abrasives and the surface roughness of 60nmRa can be gotten using grinding wheel of 2,000 mesh in 4.5um, depth of cut. In this study, the chemical experiments after ELID grinding also has been conducted to check chemical reaction between workpiece and grinding wheel on ELID grinding process. It shows that the chemical reaction has not happened as the results of the chemical experiments.
Numerical simulation was performed for the rotor blade with fixed tab in hover using an unstructured mesh Navier-Stokes flow solver. The inflow and outflow boundary conditions using 1D momentum and 3D sink theory were applied to reduce computational time. Calculations were performed at several operating conditions of varying collective pitch angle and fixed tab length. The aerodynamic effect of fixed tab length was investigated for hovering efficiency, pitching moment and flapping moment of the rotor blade. The results show that it affects linearly increasing on the pitching moment of the rotor blade but does not affect on the flapping moment. The required power is less than 45kw for ground rotating test in hover. Numerical simulations also show that the vortex generate not only from the tip of the rotor blade but also from the fixed tab on the rotor blade.

Recently, hospital acquired infections have an increase interest as a public problems, which are caused of indoor pollutants in hospital. Microorganisms, ethylene oxide, formaldehyde, and anesthetic gases are main hazardous pollutants in hospital. The possible pathways of the infection are a respiratory channel as well as a blood channel. The blood channel is concerned since these pollutants might be dissolved into the Ringer's solution. The objective of this research was to evaluate the removal efficiencies of adsorption trap for formaldehyde and microorganisms as indoor pollutants which permeated into the Ringer's solution. Dissolved formaldehyde in the solution was increased with the injection dose time. The amount of dissolved formaldehyde was 67.5 $\pm$ 9.5% in Ringer's solution when injection dose time was controlled about 7hrs. An adsorption trap was designed for preventing formaldehyde and microorganisms to be permeated into Ringer's solution. The adsorption trap was packed with 0.4g of active carbon (60/80 mesh) in a sterilized plastic tube (7.79 cm length, 0.46 cm i.d.) and both ends were packed with glass wool. Devised infusion set equipped with the adsorption trap showed 99.9% of removal efficiency for formaldehyde. Microorganism numbers detected on sterilized water for injection and 5% dextrose infusion used in the hospital were 2,695 $\times 10^3$ cells/l and 4,190 $\times 10^3$ cells/l, respectively. Removal efficiency by the adsorption trap was 92.3 $\pm$ 8.5% as for microorgnisms.
Among the radioactive wastes generated from the nuclear power plant, a radioactive nuclide such as $^{129}I$ is classified as a difficult-to-measure (DTM) nuclide, owing to its low specific activity. Therefore, the establishment of an analytical procedure, including a chemical separation for $^{129}I$ as a representative DTM, becomes essential. In this report, the adsorption and recovery rate were measured by adding $^{125}I$ as a radio-isotopic tracer ($t_{1/2}$ = 60.14 d) to the simulation sample, in order to measure the activity concentration of $^{129}I$ in a pressurized-water reactor primary coolant. The optimum condition for the maximum recovery yield of iodine on the anion exchange resins (AG1 x2, 50-100 mesh, $Cl^-$ form) was found to be at pH 7. In this report, the effect of the boron content in a pressurized-water reactor primary coolant on the separation process of $^{129}I$ was examined, as was the effect of $^3H$ on the measurement of the activity of iodine. As a result, no influence of the boron content and of the simultaneous $^3H$ presence was found with activity concentrations of $^3H$ lower than 50 Bq/mL, and with a boron concentration of less than 2,000 ${\mu}g/mL$.

To investigate the optimum conditions of seaweed Mooks prepared with sea mustard (Indaria pinnatifida) and sea tangel(Laminaria japonica), pH, viscosity , yield and jelly strength were studied on the sol and /or gel (Mook ) made from homogenized seaweeds. Solubilization conditions of homogenized seaweeds were heating at $65^{\circ}C$ for one hour after mixing homogenized seaweed with 1 % $K_2$HPO$_4$ by 1 ; 1 (v/v) . Gelation conditions were 24 hrs by natural permeation of Ca++ into the sol in three times (v/v) of 1 % CaCl$_2$ solution to solubilized seaweed passed through 60 mesh of sieve. There are generally no relationship between viscosity of solubilized seaweed and jelly strength of Mook produced by gelation of the sol in CaCl$_2$ solution . Jelly strength of sea mustard Mook was more than 500g/$\textrm{cm}^2$ , yield was 87.5% of the solubilized and filtrated seaweed . Jelly strength and specific gravity of sea tangle Mook were higher those of sea mustard Mook, while its yield was lower than that of sea mustard Mook.
