  • Magnetic properties of electrical steel are, in general. measured by using Epstein frame or single sheet tester (SST). These methods, however, require very strict regulation of a specimen in its size and shape. thus, can not be easily applied to various types of specimen. On the other hand, a ring-test method, which measures only the isotropic properties, can be easily applied to most cases because it requires a toroidal-type specimen of arbitrary size. This method, especially, is considered as an unique available method for a bulk-type specimen. In this paper, a ring-test method is developed, and applied to the measurement of magnetic properties of a bulk-type electrical steel with a toroidal-type specimen. In the measurement, the magnetic properties and iron losses are measured and compared with each other at the both sinusoidal magnetic flux density and sinusoidal magnetic field intensity conditions under 0.2Hz and 60Hz alternating magnetic fields excitation. Through experimental measurements, a sinusoidal magnetic flux density condition is proven appropriate for the measurement of magnetic properties, including iron loss characteristics, of electrical steels.

  • Humans are environmentally exposed to various electromagnetic fields, but the evaluation of the harmfulness of electromagnetic field and the development of a system therefor are still incomplete. We aimed to develop a system for evaluating biohazard against electromagnetic fields, and to determine biohazard through the system. An extremely-low frequency magnetic field generator was designed and manufactured, and the output reliability of the device was verified. Using this device, the effect on the formation of cellular stress-granules and the cell cycle progression of cells exposed to high magnetic fields of 6 mT and 60 Hz was confirmed. As a result, exposure to high magnetic fields of 6 hr, 12 hr and 36 hr did not affect the formation of cell stress-induced granules and the cell division cycle. These results are an important basis for the determination of biohazard to the extremely-low frequency high magnetic field.

  • Magnetic properties of sintered Fe-79Ni-4Mo cores made of centrifugal atomized powders were investigated. $H_{c}$ and $\mu_{a}$ of the cores sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours measured at 60 Hz at a magnetic field of 10 Oe showed the best properties. Particularly the properties of $H_{c}$ and $\mu_{a}$ measured at low field (< 0.2 Oe) were found to increase with increasing the particle size of the core samples. It resulted from the domain wall motion depending on the grain size of sintered bodies. The best D, C magnetic properties of $H_{c}$ and $\mu_{max}$ were 0.085 Oe and 40000, respectively. A, C properties of the same cores showed the $\mu_{a}$ of 11000. The magnetic properties of sintered cores always exhibited an enhanced AC/DC performance by using the powders mixed with two different particle sizes. Those properties of cores are expected to apply for current transformer.

  • In this paper, measurement and analysis of ELF electric and magnetic fields due to a transmission line have been carried out and the power frequency field strength measuring system is designed. In order to evaluate electric and magnetic fields associated with 60 Hz electric power transmission and distribution lines, the actual survey near a transmission tower has been made and analyzed. It may be inferred from these results that the maximum electric and magnetic fields strength in the vicinity of a line tower do not exceed 3.5[kV/m] and 20[${\mu}T$]. The results of the field measurements agree with limits and guidelines recommended by various authorized international institutes.

  • In recent society, the quality of human life has improved due to the use of electric appliances and the high powered electrical equipments. However, lots of electric appliances and equipments generate the electromagnetic field hazard. Many studies have been made about the wrong behavior of machines due to electromagnetic fields, the interferences in communication equipments, the possibility of the electromagnetic field hazard in human body, etc. There exist international standards about the RF equipments (ex. mobile phone, antenna, etc.). But, many researchers involved in power frequency electric and magnetic field only propose the prudential avoidance. In this paper, induced currents in a human body model due to magnetic fields in high speed railway are calculated by two dimensional impedance method. Power frequency(60Hz) magnetic fields are calculated and induced currents are simulated by Faraday's law. Induced currents are simulated with induced voltage, human body model impedances due to Ohm's law, magnetic fields derived from Biot-Savart's law and Transmission Line Method in high speed railway.

  • Objectives : The aim of this paper is to develop acupuncture needle heating system by utilizing the new method which uses high frequency(HF) time-varying magnetic field. Also, it is possible to make an assessment for reliability and clinical significance of the system. Methods : We designed the system with solenoid coils for generation of HF time-varying magnetic field that oscillates at 150 kHz. Acupuncture needles are quickly magnetized and heated by 150 kHz. We assessed clinical significance of system, such as body temperature, pressure pulse waveform. Results : Temperature of acupuncture needle increased up to 60 degree. In the result for clinical significance of system, in case of manual acupuncture stimulation(MAS), body temperature change was $0.373^{\circ}C{\pm}0.224$(p<0.05), rate of pulse energy change increased about 7.6%. In case of warm acupuncture stimulation(WAS), body temperature change was $0.645^{\circ}C{\pm}0.281$(p<0.05), rate of pulse energy change remarkably increased about 35.9%. Conclusions : We confirm that the system is able to be applied clinically to various warm acupuncture needle therapy in the area of oriental medicine.

  • This work presents results of the study which concerns the influence of the rotating magnetic field (RMF) on the growth rate, cell metabolic activity and ability to form biofilms by E. coli and S. aureus. Liquid cultures of the bacteria were exposed to the RMF (RMF frequency f = 1-50 Hz, RMF magnetic induction B = 22-34 mT, time of exposure t = 60 min, temperature of incubation $37^{\circ}C$). The present study indicate the exposition to the RMF, as compared to the unexposed controls causing an increase in the growth dynamics, cell metabolic activities and percentage of biofilm-forming bacteria, in both S. aureus and E. coli cultures. It was also found that the stimulating effects of the RMF exposition enhanced with its increasing frequencies and magnetic inductions.

  • The effects of power frequency electric and magnetic fields have been a source of concern for many years. Electromagnetic fields can pose a theat to both signal system of electrified railways and human body around railways. It is believed that, though the electromagnetic fields do no serious harm to human health, they do induce biological effects. This paper estimates the electromagnetic fields near Kyeongbu high speed railways with numerical data. The charge simulation method and surface charge method are used to calculate the electric field of 2 dimensional power distribution lines and rails and magnetic field is calculated on the base of Biot-Sarart's law.

  • The quality of MT (magnetotellurics) data highly depends on the level of artificial noise form industrial sources. We have conducted the feasibility study of MT noise modelling using digital spatial data and spatial modelling through the comparison between the predicted and the measured MT noises. A simple noise model predicting the intensity of electromagnetic field radiated from the latent noise sources, that is, the electric facilities in the building, road and high-voltage powerline, is developed in consideration of the propagation property of electromagnetic waves. From the analysis of correlation between the predicted and the measured noise power, the correlation coefficients of electric field are higher than those of magnetic field in whole frequency band. The magnetic field component has the high correlation in the narrow band near 60 Hz only. The spatial noise modelling proposed in this study would provide some useful informations for the MT surveys in the noisy environment like urban area.
