A Case Study of Six Sigma Project for Improving Productivity of the Brace Complement Center Pillar (Brace Complement Center Pillar의 생산성 향상을 위한 6시그마 프로젝트사례)

  • This paper considers a six sigma project for improving productivity of the brace complement center pillar. The project follows a disciplined process of fife phases: define, measure, analyze, improve, and control. A process map is used to identify process input and output variables. Eleven key process input variables are selected by using X&Y matrix and FMEA, and finally eight vital few input variables are selected from analyze phase. The optimum process conditions of the vital few input variables are jointly obtained by maximizing productivity of the brace complement center pillar using DOE and alternative selection method.

  • This study was to explore lived experience of middle-aged women with aging. The ultimate purpose of this inquiry was to discover the essence of middle-aged women's experience of aging and to promote understanding. Method: This inquiry was performed by using Van Manen's hermeneutical phenomenological approach to make more plausible interpretation of experience. First-handed experiences were explored through multi-stage in-depth interview with 6 women aged between 40 and 64. Second- handed experiences were explored with text such as essay, novel, and photographs. Result: As the process of reflecting and analysing the data of experience were performed, essential themes were emerged: striking onset of event, discomfort and tired body and mind, everything in ones mind, age of harvest gaining much more than loss. Conclusion: This inquiry would be a cornerstone for humanistic nursing care for the mid-aged women.

  • Global financial crisis at 2008 bring about the great change to the company itself and its environment. In these days, the company needs change to the ambidextrous organization, which have more efficiency processes also have more attractive products and services. Ambidextrous organization purse exploiting and exploration innovation program. For the existing process's incremental and rapid improvement, the exploiting innovation programs are used such as 6 Sigma program and so on. For the new business model's searching and developments, the exploration innovation programs are used such as blue ocean program and brainstorming and so on. In this paper is presented the new procedures, for the new business model development, combining exploration and exploiting innovation programs. To obtain the creative business ideas, various exploration methodologies are adopted based on 6 Sigma's methodology, The new procedures are applied to the venture company and examined its validity.

  • The automation and Cell-Line of manufacturing process are going to be new trend in the industry spot. But workers bodily burden by manual labour is still doing repeatedly at many processes. It is appearing to workers bodily burden (Shoulder, waist, hand, wrist, leg) with repeating works at assembly line which is from the static working space. The analysis with 6 Sigma Tool at specific standard assembly line improve the point at issue for unsuitable items and analyzed objects. Physical pain of worker is solved by the improvement action for the factor of 7 items with the result of analysis. It was known to be improved by solving of workers burden related to the change of 6 Sigma level from 2.16 to 4.1 at assembly line.

  • Six sigma has been the most influential management innovation program in a number of leading companies and its application has extended beyond manufacturing processes. Most companies have taken company-wide six sigma initiatives to also improve transactional and R&D processes. However, due to the limitation of existing methodologies, numerous difficulties arise during the six sigma application to non-manufacturing processes. In this study, a modified six sigma framework is proposed to facilitate six sigma implementation to transactional processes. The newly developed framework is applied to a six sigma project of the new product launching process of a marketing area.

  • The quality improvement methodology Six Sigma gained enormous international popularity in the past few years, mainly due to its successful implementation at General Electric.   • The construction industry is hard to apply to the statistical methodology of 6-sigma. For example, it is hard to verification of fraction defective through quantity production. So, in this research the proposed approach for effective process of technology development through establish of innovative methodology reflecting constructional characteristics. Few studies have progressed in construction industry, but there are so many examples using 6-sigma for applying to customer needs at the product development or process improvement in manufacturing business. So this research proposed the design methodology using QFD of 6-sigma and TRIZ.

  • Recently there has been huge efforts to improve performance in construction process by applying emerging techniques such as the Lean principle, Just-in-time concept and so on. However, little achievement as we expected has come out in reality due to the lack of strategy to set a definite goal of the execution and differences of personal viewpoints on construction productivity. Accordingly, it is the most important to promote the circumstances for the construction process improvement by quantifying the goals of respective unit activity groups. This research explores feasible solutions for the improvement of construction projects performance by combining the six-sigma principle for the generic administrative innovation based on the idea of construction process performance. For this purpose, mutual comparisons of various current approaches are performed in an attempt to establish the advantages in applying six-sigma idea and to provide its fundamental strategy. Furthermore, through a case study with the simulation of applying six-sigma to a unit activity group in construction process, this paper verifies that the overall performance improves as the degree of sigma level gets advanced.

  • Six sigma is a management innovation strategy which improves all managerial processes in an integrated manner, Six sigma can be applied to every aspect of managerial functions such as marketing, engineering, purchasing, accounting, and so on. Six sigma is trying to solve quality problems from the customer's viewpoint in the scientific manner, thus maximizing profits through the elimination of quality costs. This paper is presented to verify empirically the successful factors of implementing six sigma through the survey of black­belts of Korean firms. The blue­chip companies in Korea and across the world have already adopted Six Sigma, and it is becoming an integral part of the corporate culture of these companies. In conclusion, the most important factors to the success of six sigma are found to be the leadership of top management, and the compensation/ incentive system. The analysis also shows that the important factors are different in terms of both the process type and implementing stage.

A Comparative Analysis between Manufacturing and Transactional/Service Processes of Six Sigma Quality Improvement (제조부문과 사무간접/서비스부문의 6시그마 프로세스 개선활동 비교분석)

  • There are big differences in six sigma projects between manufacturing processes and transactional/service processes. This paper analyzed the differences between the two areas by examining 18 six sigma case studies in Korean companies. To characterize six sigma case studies, step-by-step questions and check criteria were developed based on 12 step DMAIC methodology. On the basis of those characterized data, the differences between two areas were analyzed. Significant differences were found in the number of CTQs, validation of measurement systems, methods to determine improvement objectives, the methods to elicit improvement plans and types of control systems. The most significant difference was that statistical tools were widely used in manufacturing processes, but qualitative tools were used in transactional/service processes during improvement phase.
