  • The new 5G radio technology (NR) can provide ultra-reliable low latency communications. The supporting 5G network infrastructure will move away from the previous point-to-point network architecture to a service-based architecture. 5G can provide three new things, i.e., wider channels, lower latency and more bandwidth. These will allow 5G to support three main types of connected services, including enhanced mobile broadband, mission-critical communications, and the massive Internet of Things (IoT). In 2015, the 5th generation (5G) mobile communication was officially approved by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as IMT-2020. Since then, 3GPP, the international organization responsible for 5G standards, is actively developing specifications for 5G technologies. 3GPP Release 15 provides the first full set of 5G standards, and the evolution and expansion of 5G are now being standardized in Release 16 and 17, respectively. This paper provides an overview of 3GPP 5G technologies and key services.

  • The 5G is the 5th generation mobile network that provides enhanced mobile broadband, ultra-reliable & low latency communications, and massive machine-type communications. New services can be provided through multi-access edge computing, network function virtualization, and network slicing, which are key technologies in 5G mobile communication. However, these new technologies provide new attack paths and threats. In this paper, we analyzed the overall threats of 5G mobile communication through a literature review. First, defines 5G mobile communication, analyzes its features and technology architecture, and summarizes possible security issues. Addition, it presents security threats from the perspective of user devices, radio access network, multi-access edge computing, and core networks that constitute 5G mobile communication. After that, security requirements for threat factors were derived through literature analysis. The purpose of this study is to conduct a fundamental analysis to examine and assess the overall threat factors associated with 5G mobile communication. Through this, it will be possible to protect the information and assets of individuals and organizations that use 5G mobile communication technology, respond to various threat situations, and increase the overall level of 5G security.

  • It becomes important to analyze the effects of electromagnetic wave on human body, as various wireless equipments are widely used in daily life. SAR (specific absorption rate) is a parameter of the effects of electromagnetic wave on human body. However, it considers only human tissues, and it is difficult to evaluate the effects of electromagnetic wave when metal artifacts are inserted such as dental implants. This paper introduces a method to simulate SAR, and gets its simulated results. Simulated SAR of human head model with dental implants in 30 GHz 5th generation mobile communications (5G) frequency band is $2.50{\times}10^{-3}W/kg$ in maximum and $8.58{\times}10^{-7}W/kg$ in average. These values are absolutely below 1.6 W/kg Korean domestic SAR limit.

  • To efficiently use frequency resources, the next 6th generation mobile communication technology must solve the problem of out-of-band emission (OoBE) of cyclic prefix (CP) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), which is not solved in 5th generation technology. This study describes a new zero insertion technique to replace an existing filtering scheme to solve this internal problem in OFDM signals. In the development of the proposed scheme, a precoder with a two-dimensional structure is first designed by generating a two-dimensional mapper and using the specialty of each matrix. A spectral shaping technique based on zero insertion instead of a long filter is proposed, so it can be applied not only to long OFDM symbols, but also very short ones. The proposed method shows that the transmitted signal is completely blocked at the bandwidth boundaries of signals according to the current standards, and it is confirmed that the proposed scheme is ideal with respect to bit error rate (BER) performance because its BER is the same as that of CP-OFDM. In addition, the proposed scheme can transformed into a real time structure through vectorizing process with minimal complexity.

  • This paper proposed an Inter-Carrier-Interference (ICI) Canceling Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) receiver for 5G mobile system to support 500 km/h linear motor high speed terrestrial transportation service. A receiver in such high-speed train sees the transmission channel which is composed of multiple Doppler-shifted propagation paths. Then, a loss of sub-carrier orthogonality due to Doppler-spread channels causes ICI. The ICI Canceler is realized by the following three steps. First, using the Demodulation Reference Symbol (DMRS) pilot signals, it analyzes three parameters such as attenuation, relative delay, and Doppler-shift of each multi-path component. Secondly, based on the sets of three parameters, Channel Transfer Function (CTF) of sender sub-carrier number 𝒏 to receiver sub-carrier number 𝒍 is generated. In case of 𝒏≠𝒍, the CTF corresponds to ICI factor. Thirdly, since ICI factor is obtained, by applying ICI reverse operation by Multi-Tap Equalizer, ICI canceling can be realized. ICI canceling performance has been simulated assuming severe channel condition such as 500 km/h, 2 path reverse Doppler Shift for QPSK, 16QAM, 64QAM and 256QAM modulations. In particular, for modulation schemes below 16QAM, we confirmed that the difference between BER in a 2 path reverse Doppler shift environment and stationary environment at a moving speed of 500 km/h was very small when the number of taps in the multi-tap equalizer was set to 31 taps or more. We also confirmed that the BER performance in high-speed mobile communications for multi-level modulation schemes above 64QAM is dramatically improved by the use of a multi-tap equalizer.

  • In order to satisfy 5th generation mobile system's requirements, recently many works have been done in various layers. Especially in physical layer, new waveforms like Filter bank Multi-Carrier(FBMC), Universal Filtered Multi-Carrier(UFMC), Generalized Frequency Division Multiplexing(GFDM) have been proposed and their performance have been evaluated. But most previous researches have provided limited information by comparing couple new waveforms each other with different assumptions and simulation parameters. In this paper, we investigate the key technique of each 5G new waveform, and compare them in various aspects and the same simulation environment, and finally provide what waveform is appropriate in different application scenarios.

  • In this paper, we have designed MIMO system using F-OFDM modulation. And then, we have evaluated and analyzed synchronization performance of the system. In this paper we have considered Schmidl's method, Minn's method, and Park's method. As simulation results, Schmidl's method has wide plateau of timing metric and Park's method has impulse-shape timing metric. Also, we can confirm that timing metric characteristic of synchronization estimator can be degraded by adjusting filter length of F-OFDM system. Especially, we can confirm that timing metric of synchronization estimator is shifted according to filter length of MIMO system using F-OFDM modulation and this timing metric movement can be compensated by using designed filter length.
