PTAW법에 의한 Al 합금 표면의 후막경화층 형성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Formation of Thick Hardened Layer on Al Alloy Surface by PYAW Process)

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the wear resistance and hardness of Al alloy by making a formation of the thick surface hardening layers. The thick surface hardening layers were formed by PTAW(Plasma Transferred Arc Welding), with the addition of metal powders (Cu), ceramics powders (NbC, TiC), and mixture powders (Cu+NbC) in Al alloy (A1050, A5083). Mechanical properties of overlaid layers (wear resistance, hardness) were investigated in relation to the microstructure. The results obtained are summarized as follows: The depth of penetration was increased with increasing powder feeding rate. It is considered that these increase were due to the thermal pinch effect by the addition of powders, especially, for the Cu powders, were due to the heat of reaction with the matrix. The hardness and wear resistance of overlaid layers were improved with increasing powder feeding rate. For the Cu powders, it is considered that these increase were due to the increase of the formation of ${\theta}(CuAl_2)$ phase with increasing feeding rate of Cu powers.

양극산화 처리된 5083-H321 알루미늄 합금의 해수 내 캐비테이션-침식 방지를 위한 최적 방식전위 규명 (Investigation on optimum cavitation-erosion protection potential of anodized 5083-H321 Al alloy in sea water)

  • 알루미늄 합금은 내구성과 내식성이 우수할 뿐만 아니라 다양한 표면개질을 통해 그 표면 특성을 더욱 향상시킬 수 있다. 특히 Al-Mg계 5083-H321 Al 합금의 경우 가공성 및 용접성이 우수하여 선체 재료로 널리 이용되는데, 이는 선체중량의 경량화가 가능하여 연료비 절감과 빠른 선속 등 다양한 이점을 지니기 때문이다. 그러나 선속의 고속화에 따라 선체에 가해지는 유체충격이 증가하고 정압 저하에 기인하여 캐비테이션-침식 손상이 증가할 뿐만 아니라 해수환경 특성 상염소이온의 존재로 부식이 가속화되는 등 침식 및 부식의 시너지효과로 손상은 크게 증가한다. 이에 대한 방지대책으로 다양한 표면개질 기법이 제안되고 있으나 강한 충격압이 동반된 캐비테이션 침식-부식 복합 손상 환경에서는 표면처리만으로는 불가능할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 양극산화된 5083-H321을 대상으로 캐비테이션 환경 하에서 일정 전위를 인가하여 침식-부식 손상이 최소화되는 최적전위를 규명하고자 한다. 이를 위해 먼저 분극 실험을 통해 재료의 전기화학적 거동을 바탕으로 임의의 전위를 선정하고 해당 전위를 인가한 상태에서 캐비테이션 실험을 실시하였다. 이때 분극실험과 캐비테이션-전기화학 복합실험 모두 $25^{\circ}C$의 해수에서 실시하였으며, 전기화학적 분극실험은 유효면적이 $3.24cm^2$인 시편에 2 mV/s의 분극속도로 0 ~ -3 V 까지 인가하였고, Ag/AgCl 기준전극과 백금대극을 사용하였다. 캐비테이션-전기화학 복합 실험은 정전위를 인가한 상태에서 $30{\mu}m$의 진폭으로 20분간 실시하였으며, 혼팁과 시험편 사이의 거리는 1 mm로 일정하게 유지하였다. 실험 후 표면 손상의 정량적 분석을 위해 인가된 전위별 전류밀도를 비교하고, 무게감소량을 측정하였으며, 손상특성 분석을 위해 3D현미경과 주사전자현미경(SEM)을 통해 표면을 분석하였다.

  • 분극전위변화에 따른 고역 내식성 알미늄합금(5083)의 SCC 거동을 연구 검토한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 5083 알미늄합금의 K 하(IC)은 134.81~148.38kg/mm 상(3/2)이며, 전위변화에 따라 K 하(Ii)은 75.92~145.78kg/mm 하(3/2)이다. 2. K 하(I)-V의 거동은 양분극시 Region I 과 II가 나타나고, K 하(Ii)/K 하(IC)의 비가 작을수록 crack성장속도도 빠르게 나타난다. 3. 분극전위 -987mV SCE에서 crack성장속도가 가장 지연되므로 122mV SCE을 음분극하면 SCC 방지효과를 얻을 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. 4. 입계의 $\beta$상의 석출은 분극전위가 클수록 크게 나타난다.

알루미늄 캔 스크랩의 용탕처리 시 알루미늄 합금 회수에 미치는 플럭스의 영향 (Effect of Flux on Recovery of Aluminum During Molten Metal Treatment of Aluminum Can Scrap)

  • 본 연구에서는 유도로를 사용하여 알루미늄 캔 스크랩의 재활용 효율을 플럭스 종류와 혼합 비율의 영향에 대해 조사하였다. 알루미늄 캔 제조 공정에서 발생한 알루미늄 캔 스크랩의 표면 코팅층 약 500 ℃에서 30 분간 열처리를 통해 제거가 가능하였다. 용해 공정 온도는 알루미늄 합금 용해 온도보다 높은 온도로 설정하였고, 플럭스 종류와 혼합 비율에 따른 용탕처리를 진행하였다. 그 결과, 750 ℃에서 3 wt.%의 플럭스(Salt flux와 MgCl2 혼합비율 70:30)의 조건에서 알루미늄을 최적으로 회수 할 수 있었다. 회수된 Al합금은 인장강도 249 MPa과 연신율 14 %로써 Al5083 소재와 거의 동일한 기계적 특성을 나타냄을 알 수 있었다.

  • Vibrational micro-forming of pyramidal shape patterns was conducted for an Al superplastic alloy, Al 5083 and a Zr-based bulk metallic glass, $Zr_{62}Cu_{17}Ni_{13}Al_8$. A vibrational micro-forming system was specially designed for generating vibrational load by combining a PZT actuator with a signal generator. Single crystal Si micro dies with wet-etched pyramidal patterns were used as master dies for vibrational micro-forming. The micro-formed pattern height was increasing with increasing the frequency of the vibrational load. In particular, the vibrationally-microformed pattern height was similar or even higher than the statically-microformed pattern height when the load frequency exceeded about 125 kHz. It was also observed that the crystal grains affect the surface quality of the microformed pattern and the distribution of the pattern height in the die cavity array.

해양환경용 알루미늄 합금의 플라즈마 전해 산화 시 표면 특성에 관한 불화칼륨(KF)의 영향 (Influences of Potassium Fluoride (KF) Addition on the Surface Characteristics in Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation of Marine Grade Al Alloy)

  • In this study, we investigated the influences of potassium fluoride(KF) addition on the surface characteristics of plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO) coating produced on Al alloy. The PEO of marine grade Al alloy(5083 grade) was conducted in KOH 1g/L solution adding different concentrations of KF(0, 1 and 2 g/L) under a galvanostatic regime. With KF addition, unusual behavior was observed on the voltage-time characteristic curves, which can be characterized by the following process: (i) initial rapid increase in voltage (ii) a short plateau after 1st breakdown (iii) gradual increase in voltage (iv) intermittent fluctuation of voltage after 2nd breakdown. The SEM observation revealed irregular surface morphology with KF addition, as compared with one formed without KF addition, which had a reticulate structure. The XRD analysis detected the formation of aluminium hydroxide fluoride hydrate($H_{4.76}Al_2F_{3.24}O_{3.76}$) on surface grown by PEO process with KF. Particularly, at very early stage of the process (~ 120 s), thin film was formed having nanoporous structure, and F element was confirmed on surface by EDS analysis. The thickness and surface roughness of the coating increased with increasing KF concentration. As a result, KF addition was found to be less beneficial influences on PEO of marine grade Al alloy, and therefore needs further research to improve its capability.

Al 5083O합금의 마찰교반용접부의 조직과 특성평가 (Mechanical Characteristics and Macro-and Micro-structures on Friction Stir Welded Joints with 5083O Al Alloys)

  • This paper shows the behaviors of macro- and micro-structures and mechanical properties for specimen's welding region welded by FSW. according to welding conditions with 5mm thickness aluminum 5083O alloy plate. It apparently results in defect-free weld zone in case traverse speed was changed to 32 mm/min under conditions of anti-clockwise direction and tool rotation speed such as 800 and 1250 rpm with tool's pin diameter of 5 ${\Phi}mm$ and shoulder diameter of 20 ${\Phi}mm$, pin length of 4.5 mm and tilting angle of $2^{\circ}$. The ultimate stress of ${\sigma}_T=331$ MPa and the yield point of 147 MPa are obtained at the condition of the travel speed of 32 mm/min with the tool rotation speed of 1250 rpm. There is neither voids nor cracks on bended surface of $180^{\circ}$ after bending test. The improvement of toughness after impact test was found. The lower rotating and traverse speed became, the higher were yield point, maximum stress and elongation(%) with the stresses and the elongation(%) versus the traverse speed diagram. Vickers hardness for cross section of welding zone were also presented. The typical macro-structures such as dynamically recrystallized zone, thermo-mechanically affected zone and heat affected zone and the micro-structures of the transverse cross-section were also showed. However, the author found out that the region of 6mm far away from shoulder circumference was affected by friction heat comprehensively, that is, hardness softened and that part of micro-structures were re-solid-solution or recrystallized, the author also knew that there is no mechanically deformation on heat affected zone but there are the flow of plastic deformation of $45^{\circ}$ direction on thermo-mechanically affected zone and the segregation of Al-Mg on nugget. The solid solution wt(%) of parent material as compared against of friction stir welded zone was comprehensively changed.

Al5083-O GMA 용접부의 입열량과 보호가스 혼합비율에 따른 강도 평가 (The Strength Evaluation of Al5083-O GMA Welding Zone According to the Heat Input and Mixing Shield Gas Ratio)

  • This study was to evaluate mechanical properties and toughness of the Al5083-O aluminum alloy welding zone according to the mixing shield gas ratio and heat input change. The GMA(Gas Metal Arc) welding of the base metal was carried out with four different mixing shield gas ratios(Ar100%+He0%, Ar67%+He33%, Ar50%+He50%, and Ar33%+He67%) and three different heat inputs(low, medium, and high). To investigate the Charpy absorbed energy of the weld zone, the specimens were divided base metal, weld metal, fusion line, and HAZ notched specimen according to the worked notch position. The different gas ratio and heat input had little effect upon the tensile strength. But Ar33%+He67% mixture had the greatest mechanical properties considering that the more He gas ratio concentrations, the higher yield strength and elongation. The maximum load and displacement of the weld metal notche specimen was so much low more than that of the base metal, but fusion line and HAZ notched specimens showed almost same regardless of the mixing shield gas ratio and heat input. The Charpy absorbed energy was lowest in weld metal notched specimen, and increased in the fusion line, and HAZ notche specimen in order. Ar33%+He67% mixture had the greatest toughness considering that the more He gas ratio, the higher absorption energy.

해수 환경하에서 알루미늄합금(5083F)의 외부전원법에 의한 최적 방식전위 결정에 관한 연구 (Investigation on Optimum Protection Potential Decision of Al Alloy(5083F) in Sea Water by Impressed Current Cathodic Protection)

  • Recently, there has been a new appreciation of aluminum alloys as materials that are capable of reducing the environment load. This is because aluminum alloys are lightweight, easy to recycle, permit miniaturization, and have environmental friendly properties. In this study, we investigated the mechanical and electrochemical properties of 5083F aluminum alloys using slow strain rate test(SSRT) and potentiostatic tests under various potential conditions. In the potentiostatic tests, the current density in the potential range from -0.7 to -1.4V after 1,200 s was low. After considering the results of the potentiostatic tests, maximum tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, time-to-fracture, observation of fractured specimen and fractography analysis, the optimum protection potential range was between -1.3 and -0.7V(Ag/AgCl).

GTAW에 의한 Al 합금 용접부의 조직 및 결합에 대한 연구 (Structures and Defects in Welds of High Strengths Al Alloys by Using GTAW)

  • Recently Al alloys are being used gradually for structural materials of transports. In welding of Al alloys used for transports, good weldabilities as well as adequate mechanical properties of the welds should be ensured as structural materials. In this study, the welds formation, macro and microstructural characteristics, generation of defects and hardness distribution in welds of Al alloys of 5083, 6N01 and 7N01 by DCSP- and AC-GTA welding process, were investigated. The deeper penetration was obtained in all welds of the alloys by DCSP-GTAW with He gas, compared with those by using AC-GTAW. The 6N01 alloy showed high susceptibilities to solidification cracking in weld metal and liquation cracking in HAZ of the welding beads of both DCSP- and AC-GTAW process. The cracking ratio of 6N01 alloy was increased with increasing of welding current. The porosity ratios in weld metal of all alloys used were extremely low including all welding conditions of DCSP-GTAW. However, in AC-GTAW process, the porosity ratios of the welds using Ar gas showed much higher values than those using He gas.
