Studies on Total Logistics Management in Physical Distribution Process

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to examine total logistics concept performed by 3rd party logistics, managing with 4th party logistics to achieve more efficient and systematic dealing with sub-functions of physical distribution process. Research design and methodology - The research method to be adopted is first to review 3th party logistics providers that has attracted to various functions of 4PL, and then total logistics concept to be investigated which is related to 3 PL and 4 PL. Results - For the total logistics concept implemented by 3PL, management technique should be widen, then 3 PL's service activities and area should extend. Especially for the collaboration effects between the company and external organizations, it can be collaborated with some commitments in terms of their own independent activities, carrying on inherent functions by both 3PL and 4PL, pursuing total logistics concept. Conclusions - More areas of logistics service has been required by clients in the field, and service activities available is strongly related to roles of 3th party logistics providers as main player in logistics market. However, total logistics management is could be implemented by 3PL combining with various functions of logistics service offered by 4th logistics provider.

  • According to result of this paper, shipping companies tend to choose a third party logistics company that is able to provide consulting services that is the core of the administration of distribution. Shipping companies expect that the consulting services would be able to increase the efficiency through utilizing not logistics functions of shipping, unloading, storage, and information but performance indices of logistics activities. Because shipping companies generally regard that third party logistics not only has no expertise but also is small, in order to activate third-party logistics industry, the consulting services should be improved.

  • 서비스 산업은 상당한 수준의 전문기술 및 관련 지식 집약과 아울러 산업간 융합을 요하는 특성의 산업으로 창의적인 인적자원의 숙련된 경험과 상당한 시간동안 축적된 전문 지식의 활용을 필수적으로 요구하는 특성상, 우리나라 창조경제의 구현에 필수적이라고 할 수 있다. 서비스 산업의 이러한 산업적 특성 및 경제적 이점은 FTA를 필두로 하는 현재의 국제무역 통상질서에서도 큰 영향을 끼친다. 서비스 무역은 서비스 수출국 서비스 산업의 발전을 주도하는 원동력으로 작용하는 한편, 서비스 수입국 측면에서도 자국 내 미약한 서비스산업에 대한 보완과 발전의 발판을 마련할 수 있는 긍정적 계기를 마련해줄 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는, FTA 국제무역질서 하에서의 FTA와 서비스 무역 간의 관계를 명확히 조명하고, FTA를 활용한 서비스 무역의 활성화 방안을 물류산업 중심으로 분석하여 이를 정책적 시사점으로 제언하였다. 이에 더하여 3자 물류의 기능, 나아가 컨설팅과 ICT 기능이 결합된 형태의 4자 물류기능을, 4차 산업혁명 주도 경제 활성화 주도를 위한 촉매 개념으로 적극 활용하여야 한다. 국내 물류기업의 내부적인 물류 서비스 전반에 대한 경쟁력 제고 노력이 선행되는 상황에서 범정부 차원의 국내 물류기업의 해외진출 등을 위한 전문인력 양성지원, 관련 법 제도 정비, 서비스 산업의 DB화, 각종제도 지원 강화 등 정부부처간 통합 지원책이 실행된다면, 물류산업 경쟁력 강화를 통한 FTA 활용 국내외 서비스 무역 활성화에 매우 긍정적인 영향을 견인해 낼 수 있으리라 판단되어진다.

중국 물류네트워크의 생산성과 한국의 글로벌통상전략 (Productivity on the Chinese Logistics Network and Korean Economic Strategy)

  • The paradigm of the global logistics network has been rapidly changing from traditional concept of productivity in cost terms, toward the new characteristics of innovative productivity in terms of economies of scale, economies of scope, and economies of network. As the ship or airplane becomes larger and speedier, the less logistics hub required. The more diverse logistics parties integrate each other horizontally or vertically, the higher synergy effects they get. The more systematic concurrent engineering available for global supply chain management such as Korean manufacturers in China, the higher productivity they get. The paper analyzes these three paradigms of logistics into the application for the Korean manufacturers in China and concludes that the Korean government, the companies in China should be more focused on the governance of the logistics and the intermediary such as the 4th party logistics(4PL) is definitely developed its role and functions based on three paradigms above mentioned.

The Economic Collaborative Tasks in China: New Role for the 4th Logistics Party

  • The ever-expanding Chinese economy has affected the Korean economy in many respects. So many companies, including most of major groups, has increased their economic collaborative businesses in China. Due to the sandwich situation of the economic competitiveness, many Korean companies has been seeking for the lower production costs in China, while other high-tech companies also for the prospective markets in China. Nonetheless all the Korean FDIs in China have been seriously connected with its global supply chain management. In order to promote this kind of collaboration across the border, the 4PL kind of tasks are needed. The study suggests these tasks in terms of 3 categories of Pre-Feasibility/ Business Planning, Cultural Localization, and Networking Economies/ Relationship Management. Most of all, the collaboration across the border may promote the final vision of the FTA in the Far-east Asian countries.
